Problem : Hellgate London Transparent or Invisible Character model problems with Geforce 7950GX2 similar to the one in this link : screenshot

Solution : Using the Nvidia control panel, under 3D settings there is a setting called “Antialiasing – Transparency”. That setting has three options: Off, Multisampling, and Supersampling.

Turning this setting to Off fixed the transparency bug on all player/mob models. Turning it to Multisampling causes all models to become transparent. Turning this setting to supersampling did not cause transparency issues, but did cause graphical bugs / general anomalies with all models in the game. Conversely, turning off antialiasing completely will also fix the transparency bug, as doing that automatically sets the “Antialiasing – Transparency” setting to off.

Solution #2 : Turn of AA for Hellgate london to fix the problem.

Problem : Hellgate London experiencing bad framerate on 8800gts

Solution : Play the game in Directx 9 mode. the hellgate london demo still has a lot of things that needs to be worked on so try to enjoy the demo in directx 9 mode for now

Problem : Hellgate London demo Mouse is lagging

Solution : Increase the mouse sensitivity in the options. it may seem too fast when you are in the menu but it will feel differently in-game

Problem : Hellgate London demo Error message “This application requires at least Vertex Shader Model 1.1 and Pixel Shader Model 1.1 support. Your video hardware supports Vertex Shader Model 0.0. and Pixel Shader Model 0.0. The application will now close.”

Solution : Uninstall the driver for your videocard – and delete the folders they were in. Then reboot and reinstall the drivers.

Problem : Hellgate London crashes in Vista

Solution #1 : Disable Visual Themes

Solution #2 :Try disabling the tablet services:

“open the Vista control panel and choose “Programs.” The top item in the list should be “Programs and Features.” In the sub-categories listed, click on “Turn Windows Features on or off” (it should have a little windows ’shield’ icon next to it). A little window should pop up with a bunch of services and features listed. Some will be checked, others won’t be… leave ‘em be unless you know what you’re doing. The one you’re looking for is: “Tablet PC Optional Components.” Make sure this feature is UNCHECKED (disabled). You’ll probably have to reboot your machine as well for this setting to take root.”

Solution #3 : uninstalling from the default directory and reinstalling directy to the C: directory.

Soluti0n #4 : Turn off UAC

Problem : Hellgate London Kernel32.dll error

Solution : Install service pack 2 for windows

Problem : “After installing and double clicking the icon to run, I see the picture real quick then a black screen and then my cursor. When clicking it goes back to desktop and a “uploading error report to server box” where it asks for my username and has a large white box below it.”

Solution : go into the “hellgate london demo setup” folder that was created and run “HGL_x86.msi”

Solution #2 : Apparently XP64 wasn’t accepting the certificate from Flagship studios nor was it asking me if it was ok, so it just sits at the black screen. To fix it go to the directory the game was installed to and right click on the exe in SP_x86 folder, and click properties. once in properties go to the digital signatures tab. Click the flagship studios certificate and click details. Once in there click the View Certificate button and then click install certificate. This should fix the problem!

Problem : “HellgateDemo_sp_dx9_x86.exe – Entry Point Not Found”

Solution : no known workarounds as of now

Problem : hellgate 940105 error “When i run the demo, i get an error message saying system requirements not met. I know this isn’t true. I am running this on a core 2 duo e6300, geforce 8600 gts, 2gig ram, 300 gig hard rive. It say not enough address space below it and the error message is 940105″

Solution : go to this site and download the fix for the 940105 hellgate problem http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/940105
look for it about halfway down the page. If im not mistaken it’s the filename is called KB936710 and it is labeled as 940105 in the downloads page. get the one that is suitable for your OS.

Jay and templayeau : i apologize, but for now, i have not seen any workarounds for the hellgate london crash you mentioned. I’ll be lurking around the hellgate london forums that i can find and scour their support pages for solutions

  6. Jordo — October 20, 2007 @ 10:58 am

I get the splash screen for a second or two, then poof, black screen, no error message, nothing.

I can alt-tab away from the hellgate demo, but nothing progresses in the game, just blank/black screen

  7. J — October 20, 2007 @ 1:51 pm

Hi, I’ve got the error message Problem : Hellgate London demo Error message “This application requires at least Vertex Shader Model 1.1 and Pixel Shader Model 1.1 support. Your video hardware supports Vertex Shader Model 0.0. and Pixel Shader Model 0.0. The application will now close.”

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but the message still comes up. I’ve got an ATI x1300 pro 256mb, and I’ve tried the 7.9 and 7.10 drivers. Also, what was meant by ‘deleting the folders they were in’?

  8. keikun17 — October 20, 2007 @ 3:48 pm

@ jordo : it means that you also need to delete all the files in the ATI folder found in your C:\ drive (since you are using ATI.) to ensure a clean install. if you still experience problems, feel free to contact me again regarding that hellgate london demo shader problem than i’ll look for additional info regarding that :) cheers.

“I get the splash screen for a second or two, then poof, black screen, no error message, nothing.

This is exactly my error, too.

  10. upreal — October 20, 2007 @ 7:10 pm

hello, my problem is as follows: the game thinks my CPU is as super fast as 0 MHz, for this reason it then makes all the graphics really really bad. Any help?

  11. Undeadsee — October 20, 2007 @ 7:23 pm

I am having the exact same problem as Jordo. Deleting the contents of my ATI folder had no effects. Some help please :(

  12. balios — October 20, 2007 @ 10:08 pm

When first running the demo, I got a mouse cursor and a blank screen (basically just hanged). I then went to the Nvidia site, got the latest display drivers for my 8600GT, which evidently included a fix to improve stability of Hellgate, and it ran no problem.

  13. keikun17 — October 21, 2007 @ 2:07 am

@undeadsea and jordo : an alternate solution to the problem has been found.. try to not use the newest driver as this can lead to trouble. Try to get the version 7.8.

@balios : i’ll look for solutions for that. hopefuly i will be able to help you out in that problem because i’ve never seen a person that encountered the problem similar to yours

  14. Steve — October 21, 2007 @ 3:18 am

Problem : “After installing and double clicking the icon to run, I see the picture real quick then a black screen and then my cursor. When clicking it goes back to desktop and a “uploading error report to server box” where it asks for my username and has a large white box below it.”

The 2 solutions listed for this problem did NOT work.

  15. Undeadsee — October 21, 2007 @ 5:41 am

Thankyou keikun17, Installing the 7.8 drivers made it work:)

  16. hellspawned — October 21, 2007 @ 7:34 am

    i got the following problem:
when i go to my gear (inventory) i get a error send report en and the game crashes >

    2gig ram
    ati x1300 LE PRO (512mb)
and 300 gb hdd space free

    what could be wrong??

  17. J — October 21, 2007 @ 9:53 am

Hi, I just tried the catalyst 7.6’s , and the demo worked. Haven’t tried the 7.8’s as stated by keikun, but that might work as well. Either way, the newer ATI drivers suck, evidently.

  18. Ryan — October 21, 2007 @ 9:58 am

after completing the quest where you reopen the portal that had been shut, no further quests are given. Is this the end of the demo or is there a way around this? there are no new portals to go through. I have proceeded through to the new steam tunnels, but there is no exit from there

  19. James — October 21, 2007 @ 10:09 am

When I installed the Demo and tried to run it it seemed fine untill it got to the main menuw screen, I heard I high pitched sound and then nothing, no sounds in game at all, I uninstalled and did a fresh install, still no sound, I’m using a Sound Blaster 24 bit card, anyone else have this issue and know how to correct it?

  20. keikun17 — October 21, 2007 @ 1:01 pm

@ James : the older version of the drivers for the sound blaster 24 bit card will solve that problem. the latest one is known to cause problems for hellgate london demo’s sound.
get it here : hellgate london demo sound blaster fix

@steve : those symptoms are common for a lot of problems in hellgate london demo, so that would explain why the fixes wont work for you. but Im still trying to find solutions for that problem because a lot, and i mean A LOT of people who downloaded the hellgate london demo is having this annoying problem.

    @undeadsea, J/Jordo : no prob :)

  21. Nareth — October 21, 2007 @ 9:22 pm

HG:L runs for 3 minutes and then crashes my system and a direct restart is the followup. Installed the latest BIOS, ATI drivers and X-fi drivers. It actually does the same with Mythos, which is being developed by Flagship as well. Coinsedence?
    My system is as follows:

    AMD Athlon 4600+ X2
    2GB OCZ ATI DDR2
    250GB 7200rpm HDD
    ASUS 1900XTX 512MB
    Creative X-FI Soundcard
    Windows XP SP2

Anyone here that can help me with this problem? it’s only doing it with the flagship games. Oblivion for instance, can be played without any crash at all on ultra high settings.

  22. CR — October 22, 2007 @ 7:45 am

I’m running into what seems to be a unique problem. When I try and start the demo from either exe, it will give me the splash screen, then gives me a black screen. After about 2ish seconds it flashes white then goes to black. It continues to repeat the flash for as long as I try and run the game. It still allows me to alt tab and kill the program.

I’m currently running Vista Ultimate a C2D 4300, 2 gigs of ram, and a 8800gts (320mb). I manually installed the cert and the msi exe, and have tried running both in and out of compatibly mode, with no UAC, and as admin. I have also tried updating my drivers. Any thoughts?

  23. PK — October 22, 2007 @ 10:18 am

it says i’m missing a source file, from the Data portion of the program files. Do I just need to download the whole thing again or do i have to go find this piece?

  24. imnzerg — October 22, 2007 @ 12:48 pm

I am having the same problem as CR above me

  25. keikun17 — October 22, 2007 @ 2:52 pm

@imnzerg, CR : still no dice. seems that this problem occurs for a lot of people too and it’s frustrating that no answers are popping out anywhere. I’ll try to email epic later regarding this, hopefully they will have a proper fix for this so please be patient :)

@ Nareth : do not use the latest version of the ATI drivers. use the 7.8 drivers. make sure you uninstall your current drivers and delete everything in the c:\ATI directory before proceding with the installation of the 7.8 drivers (7.6 is reported to work well with Hellgate london demo but not the latest one)

@PK : is that during the installation or does that happen when you start playing the game? and where did yuo download your copy of hellgate london demo?

  26. Drew — October 22, 2007 @ 5:08 pm

Throwing in some more information for the black screen with white flashes problem.

8800 GTS, 320MB, driver version 163.71 (latest WHQL for Vista is 163.69, but those didn’t work either) Vista 32bit Home Premium, AMD X2 4800+, Audigy 2ZS platinum Pro audio card.

I’ve managed to get it to the menu screen seemingly at random. Attempting to start the game gives me the loading screen, but after it finishes loading I am presented with a black screen again. I can hear some sounds but can see no video and am forced to ctrl+alt+del.

Thanks for your help in trying to solve these issues :)

  27. solomani — October 22, 2007 @ 7:01 pm

I get “Source file not found: C:\Documents \data\serverlist.xml. Verify that the file exist and that you can access it”.

File doesnt exist. Whole data directory is empty…

  28. AsyxA — October 22, 2007 @ 7:32 pm

lol screw this, no Service Pack on my OS and i wont install them just cause of Hellgate

just theoretically, would it work if i just update the KERNEL32.dll or would the whole OS Die? =D

  29. keikun17 — October 22, 2007 @ 10:33 pm

To those who are experiencing the black screen error, Try running the game as “administrator”. here’s how

“If you are having the same problem I was, heres how I fixed it.

I would run the game as an Administrator by right clicking on the desktop icon and clicking Run as. Hope this helps.” posted by the.foe.

@asyxa : theoretically, it wont. the updated kernel dll would probably look for stuff that comes along with the service pack

  30. Nareth — October 22, 2007 @ 10:55 pm

    @keikun17
Just reinstalled my pc. Got kinda sluggish after 6 crashes, so I’ll install the 7.8 drivers when I get home from work. Hope it works and doesn’t crash my computer again. Don’t feel like reinstalling every day :)
Thnx for the tip! I’ll let you know if it worked.

  31. Doug — October 23, 2007 @ 3:19 am

I can not even get the demo to install. Running Vista 64 bit. I click install and then it hangs. I tried running as administrator and it won’t even run to begin with.

  32. Jay — October 23, 2007 @ 4:10 am

Update on the flash of dos-style window and nothing happening:

I’ve tried all the other solutions and methods hoping it might be related, but it seems my efforts are in vain. With a week left until its release, this better be addressed in the release.

  33. Drew — October 23, 2007 @ 4:18 am

    @keikun17

Running in administrator mode doesn’t change anything. Still getting the same black screen. Have also tried running the game in XP SP2 compatibility mode with no luck.

  34. Jack — October 23, 2007 @ 1:12 pm

    @Doug

I’m having the same exact problem as Doug, anyone know how to fix?

  35. keikun17 — October 23, 2007 @ 2:17 pm

@Drew & Jay : im still clueless on as to how to fix those error. replies on the forums are not giving any solutions for this problem and most of the speculated solutions that they told us about didn’t work for some of you guys. The only common lead that we can see here is that most of the time, it occurs on high-end PCs. i DO hope that they fix this bug before they release the game. It’s kinda frustrating that the game is almost out but a lot of you guys cant even get the Hellgate demo running yet. I’ll try to keep you posted on updates regarding this matter. Im always around the Hellgate london forums so if a solution ever pops up, i’ll contact you guys.

@Jack & Doug : do you get this error message during installation : ”
Error Reading File From: c:/Users/Torpey/Desktop/Hellgate London/hellgate london demo setup/program files/flagship studios/hellgate london setup/languauge/english/Strings_install.xls.uni Verify that this file exists and you can access it”? or does your computer hang up and the only way out of it is by killing the process or soft reset?

  36. Jack — October 23, 2007 @ 2:35 pm

    @Keikun17

I’ve gotten no error message. Just a complete hang up that requires me to go through the task manager to turn off the program. I’ve tried leaving it on for up to 15 minutes before as I read someone else say it just took a long time to start but have had no luck.

  37. Nareth — October 23, 2007 @ 4:10 pm

    @keikun17
Works as a charm now! Played the HG:L demo without any crash at all and even Mythos runs like a charm now!
    Thanks a million!

    HellgateDemo_sp_dx9_x86.exe – missing file

Simply, get the executable of the game on ur desktop.. right click and extract it with RAR.. it skips past the installation wizard and will allow you to play by locating the exe file

  39. Falling — October 24, 2007 @ 9:53 pm

Hi, I have the same problem as Drew and Jay. Black screen that comes just 2-3 sec’s after the splash screen popps up and then suddenly starts blinking white. =/ (spec: vista business, 2GB ram, Intel core2duo T7700@2.40GHz, Nvidia Quadro FX570M)

  40. keikun17 — October 24, 2007 @ 10:42 pm

falling, what driver version are you using?

  41. Nethrin — October 25, 2007 @ 3:45 am

Well, for those of you having the black screen problem.

I’m having that splash screen come up then goes to black screen, I did that ” Run As.. ” thing in previous posts. Here’s the error I got.

” This application requires a CPU of speed faster then this system’s CPU ”

I guess my computer is too crappy for Hellgate….

  42. Falling — October 25, 2007 @ 5:21 pm

I’m using the nvidia gfx driver version 7.15.11.5673

  43. Nethrin — October 25, 2007 @ 5:52 pm

Well I get an error saying my CPU isn’t fast enough, yet when I do that test this game thing on the offical website or whereever i found it, it says i pass all system specs. I’m falling directly in the middle between min system reqs and recommended system req. I don’t get the problem why i cant play this game. I can play more graphic heavy games then this one… like Bioshock… so on so forth… doesn’t make sense and it’s pissing me off >.>

  44. keikun17 — October 25, 2007 @ 9:26 pm

@netherin : your case is similar to this one –>
Problem : hellgate 940105 error “When i run the demo, i get an error message saying system requirements not met. I know this isn’t true. I am running this on a core 2 duo e6300, geforce 8600 gts, 2gig ram, 300 gig hard rive. It say not enough address space below it and the error message is 940105?

Solution : go to this site and download the fix for the 940105 hellgate problem http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/940105
look for it about halfway down the page. If im not mistaken it’s the filename is called KB936710 and it is labeled as 940105 in the downloads page. get the one that is suitable for your OS.

@falling : download the latest Forceware drivers at http://www.nvidia.com. currently, the latest version is Release 162

  45. Forceflow — October 27, 2007 @ 7:03 am

Hi, when I start the Demo I get the error message that my CPU has 0.0 GHz (I have a AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 3600+) and when I go into the game I cannot set graphics to the highest settings. The options are simply not there, Antialising, Shadow Detail and Model Detail only go up to Medium. I have a nVidia GeForce 7900 GT and the game looks really sucky. On a friends computer (who has a much lower spec system then I have) it looks really good. (But he can chose a higher quality in the options, too) Is there a fix for this? ’cause the way it looks on my system is really bad :(

  46. avid gamer — October 28, 2007 @ 3:15 pm

Thanks for posting the fix/cause of the transparent character issue.

  47. Falling — October 28, 2007 @ 9:13 pm

thanks keikun, i had checked hp for new gfx drivers, but they had the same date as mine, but it seems like it was new but they had forgotten to change the date or something. anyway, its working now :D only thing i noticed is that Hellgate London requires alot of ram, my 2gb of ram doesn’t seem to be enought, since its running at 100% while running just Hellgate london and vista =/

  48. Jay — October 31, 2007 @ 9:49 pm

Today’s the release..we’ll have to see if the problems were addressed in the retail. But thanks for all the help keikun and you have my thanks. GL everyone.

  54. IguanaC64 — November 5, 2007 @ 1:36 am

I see people still asking, but if you’re getting an error like “error reading from file” and it gives this huge pathname, it means you’ve probably told it to install HGL Demo in “C:\Program Files\Hellgate London” instead of the ridiculous “C:\”…I mean…who freakin installs games to the root of their hard drive? I don’t (hence the reason I am writing about this…).

When it asks you for the install path…it automatically adds “\Program Files\Hellgate London Demo” in front of it. It basically just wants to know what hard drive you want to install it on. When you add stuff to that path it makes the path too long and it can’t copy the file it’s complaining about due to a limitation of the OS.

So…just leave “C:\” as the install path (or “D:\” or whatever…don’t add anything other than the drive letter). They tried to make it too simplistic and it sorta boned people who know just a bit more than the audience that the demo thought would be installing this.

The next error I got was “Out of Disk space”…even though I had 54g free. Hrm…well…apparently it didn’t like me not deleting the old install directory that was too long. I deleted the old install directory and all was good.

Hellgate London crashes with nvidia dll errors at random times in game. Both single player and multi. No other game I own, including Crysis crashes. Pretty sad coding I believe. Sure not pushing the graphics envelope.
