Whenever I start up the game, it tells me that it requires 0.9MHz minimum but I have 0.0MHz (0.0 GHz) on my processor. That’s strange… I could have sworn it ACTUALLY had 4.6 GHz. I’m running Vista Home Premium with a ATI Sapphire Radeon X1950XT with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.66 GHz on each) and 3.0 gb RAM. Also, I just found out DXDiag can’t tell what my processor speed is either. Any help?

  4. XPNobody — November 1, 2007 @ 8:59 am

My game will not install. I put the game in the DVD drive and I am prompted by the Install screen, I can choose either or option and I get a windows pop up saying preparing to install and then after a few seconds it disappears and nothing happens. I have tried this several times with each of my 2 DVD drives with the same effect.

I went and deleted both the copy of the demo and beta and deleted the registry entries.

  7. Micheal Brooks — November 2, 2007 @ 2:26 am

I wonder who really out there cares I believe after all the testing that they did for so many months that such intial problems should not be there. Also if a game has this many intial problems many be it should not have been sold till the game was well tested.

  8. Chris Flavell — November 2, 2007 @ 11:46 am

Got a temprary fix for the “doesn’t match min requirements” bug, if you run the program with the compatabilty ioptions as XP sp2 it works just fine.

  10. Bretto — November 2, 2007 @ 8:37 pm

    I figured out the 0.0GHz problem…
If DXDiag can’t tell you your processor speed, then you have this problem. DXDiag can’t get the information from Windows Management Instrumentation. If you open it (msinfo32) it should have an error message of some kind. Google what it tells ya and best of luck - it’s been the hardest thing to fix, but I got it done by messing with some files. When WMI is up, DXDiag can tell your processor, and it will let you run the game better.

  11. darius — November 3, 2007 @ 3:18 am

Hey Bretto, what did you actually have to do? Do you have a link you could provide, coz i’ve been up for the last 6 hours trying to figure this thing out. I’m feeling so stupid right now, so if you could point me in the right direction i’d much appreciate it!

I have downloaded the game from EA, and when it is decrypted, extracted, and I try to install it, I get the following error message after I enter my serial no. :

“Could not open key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EACore\\Staging\\eadm\\eadm\\online_content\\hellgate_london\\ergc. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel”

I have updated my graphics drivers, and tried redownloading the game as well, in case it missed a file.

tried to run as admin ect. updated all drivers.
    anybody?
    thanx

  18. Bretto — November 3, 2007 @ 11:24 pm

Well darius, the thing is, the reason why your WMI isn’t working could be a million different reasons. That is basically what I found out from searching for about as long as you did. If you really think it will help: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.win32.programmer.wmi/msg/1da6ab3690bc75a0
    This was my solution.
However, there are other things WMI needs, like you need to make sure it’s on, running, and has its three dependent services running at the same time. It’s really up to however you can diagnose your problem. Good luck.

  19. Bawlin — November 4, 2007 @ 12:53 am

Getting a problem with loading up the game. When it comes up to the menu section where you usually choose multiplayer, or options or whatever, those options are simply not there. There looks to be like, the scroll bar from the chat window at the side, but I can’t interact with it.

    Anyone else experience this?

After pushing the “Start Single/Multiplayer Game” the Game crashes and an error occurs:

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Any one know the reason ?

  27. Alex Reed — November 4, 2007 @ 8:22 pm

Ive got the retail verison of the game. I installed it fine, and it loads up fine. If i use DX9 the game runs fine, i get through the character selection screen fine, except all the characters and some of the scenery seems to glow, and are very blurred! Now in DX10, the game loads up fine and the character selection screen is ok, and the characters look really good! When i goto start the game, it start to load and i get into the main game for about half a second, then the whole thing hangs…. Ive now put on the single player patch 0. Now i can load the game to the main menu and when i click on Single Player game. i get the loading screen come up and it just stays there! The Circula load bar spins for a little bit, but then just stops!

    System Specs:
    Intel Core2 Duo 2.40Ghz

Guys, there will be another patch for hellgate london, expect it within a few hours from now. Details about the patch here : http://www.gamingnewslink.com/2007/11/05/hellgate-london-patch-01-guy-fawkes-day/

hopefully, FSS would have some of these glitches fixed in the patch.

@ ALEX : hey, people who had problems with their hellgate london on an ATI video card that is using the 7.9 and 7.10 drivers during the demo were able to fix that prob when they reverted to 7.8

make sure that you uninstall and delete the old ATI installation folder or else Windows might automatically update your reverted 7.8 drivers to 7.9/10.

Problem #7 : Hellgate London crashes after the splash screen and displays the message - Unrecoverable Error message “The application failed to initialize, perhaps because of corrupted data files. Please reinstall the application and try again.

    – i use refreshforce and had all screen sizes set to 80hz when i changed it to 100 the game worked fine.

  40. Steven Marks — November 6, 2007 @ 4:19 am

Is there no other way to fix this problem? The performance gain the 7.10 catalyst offers is considerable…so reverting to 7.8 is like changing my card to a 2600…can it be fixed another way?

  41. Alex Reed — November 6, 2007 @ 4:45 am

Well i hate to say it, but ive just updated the game, and dx10 mode still wont load…. get into the main menu, i click single player game… and thats it… starts to load, but just crashs.

  42. Templerau — November 6, 2007 @ 6:19 am

Screen / game crashing at first sound like fingernails down a chalkboard and you use Soundblaster?

Well disable sound acceleration from the control panel>sound>advanced and it will work, the crash is a hardware sound acceleration issue.

  43. Bob — November 6, 2007 @ 7:04 am

Installed retail HGL 05/11/07, works fine in Single Player mode. Tried Multi Player 06/11/07 and connected to default EU server, I get all the latest downloads DX9, DX10 DLLs etc. At th eend it stops, gives me a “Windows has encountered an error” and bombs me out! Thereafter, this eror message comes up everytime I go MultiPlayer!
I’ve deinstalled, disabled AV, ran as administrator and reloaded the game fresh - same problem every time the MultiPlayer download comes to an end. 1) Is this a server issue? 2) How can I download the updated files manually? 3) Do I have to deinstall, then reinstall everytime this happens?

I have an answer to PROBLEM #7:
I ran into this on multiple install attempts.
    Regardless of what was running.
However, when I set up my NVIDIA Control to use DUAL VIEW rather than WIDE VIEW, I was able to play the game.
NVIDIA allows you to span two monitors as if they were one monitor. WIDE VIEW (my term) works with every other game I own. However, when I was using the WIDE view, Hellgate blew up. It does not seem to support 2560×1024 resolution.

SO, If you get the error : “Corrupt Data Files”
check your video config and make sure Hellgate only ’sees’ one monitor and resolution.

  54. Mr.Smith — November 9, 2007 @ 3:10 pm

So….. I installed this game running Windows XP with a 2.4 Duo Core processor with a Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb DDR3 Vid card and 2 gigs of ram. Ran perfectly, bought a new hard-drive and Windows vista 64bit (which is compatable with my motherboard processor etc) installed Directx10 and all of the 64 bit drivers for m vid card etc. I get the error of my CPU req is too low saying im running at 900mhz. i checked my computer properties and it says my specs are 2.4 ghz core2. I tried the solution on this forum stating the compatability change to XP SP2. Still i recieved the error but the game worked after that smoothly at the character screen/loading screen, but once in the game, it was so laggy i couldnt even move. I re-installed my vid drivers and then UNCHECKED the compatibility XP SP2 checkbox. now the game loads smoothly on the character screen and IN GAME. but now when i go outside into dungeuns etc the game lags so badly i can barely move, (even though it runs perfectly in town). WTF IS GOING ON?!?!???!

The game Freezes occasionally when clicking on items on the ground or in the inventory, only way I can exit is by forcing the computer to go into standby and ctrl+alt+del the application and restarting the program. Is this just me, or are other people getting this same bug?

Whenever I exit the game and start it again I am taken to ‘character create’ screen, just like if there are no existing characters yet. the saves are saved to folder ’saves/singlegame’ (folder with maps and .hg1 file for every created character) and the game is reading them because I cannot create a new character with the same name (’name is used’). Also patching is problematic - after running the patch I got message ‘Please close the Launcher before continuing. Retry? Cancel?’.
Apart from lack of saving possibility the game is running without any problems.
    Did anyone observe this bug?

Question: So…..

Answer: Core 2 duo has this feature to run at lower speed when not in load. Power saving feature. Open up your Bios on your Asus board and find this feature and disable it. Your game will be fine after that

    soething else I just noticed

When I get to the login screen I can see that my current version is 1.0.32.4020.

    why I can not update?

    When I get to C:\Program Files\Flagship Studios\Hellgate London\LauncherData\NTLFL

there are folders named 1.10.180.3416 and so on.

I think that something doesn’t go right.

When I run LaucherQuickPatcher.exe It downloads a ntlfl.cfg file and then I have to click on finish but the version of the game is still 1.0.30.4020

    please somebody to help me.

    Whats up,
I have an interesting issue. I installed the game without error. When I tried to run the game the splash screen loads and it switches to fullscreen and then just flashes every few seconds and does nothing after that. My specs are VGN-AR520E 2gb ddr2, 8400mgt, 1.8 ghz. I have tested the computer against supreme commander and c&c3 and they run without errors. I also ran 3dmark06 without errors. I am running vista x64 business. I do not have the drivers for the sigmatel audio codec installed “because they do not exist” and that is the only reason I could come up with as to why the game refuses to run. On another note. On my other pc I had a good sword, a REALLY good sword and when I went to bed and woke up to play it… It was gone.

  89. Aliomattux — December 2, 2007 @ 6:16 pm

For all, I would like to post a solution to my own problem. For some terrible reason the game defaults to setting the anti-aliasing at extreme. I manually ran the dx10 file in the games folder and then changed the setting.

  90. Rhandric — December 3, 2007 @ 12:36 am

    bujak -
I have been having the same problem. What I found, however, was that this occurs only when I have, at some point during a boot, run Process Explorer. Are you having the same experience? While that is not a good fix (not running process explorer), it is a temporary fix until this issue can be resolved properly

choose fmodex_dll_40804.zip, then extract it to sp_x86 & mp_x86. this is also for the message “Need FMOD version 40804 but only version 40725 is available”

With regards to issue #66. I have been having the same problem since installing the game, nothing seems to make it go away. Also my graphics preferences will not save, and I’m unable to skip the EA logo screen after the first viewing. Basically the game thinks it’s being run for the first time, every time. I’ve seen this issue come up in several other posts so I know I’m not the only one. Does anyone have a solution?

  115. Johann7 — January 4, 2008 @ 12:26 pm

NOTE: Hellgate: London apparently requires its own Environment Variable pointing to the install directory. If you are having problems launching the game, open the System Properties control panel, go to the Advanced tab and click Environment Variables, and make sure that under “System Variables” there is an entry called “HellgateEnv” with a Value of whatever the install directory is (default: “C:\Program Files\Flagship Studios\Hellgate London\”)

Also, my responses are in reverse-post-order for my convenience (looking backwards to avoid solved problems). Check for your handle/post number to find a response. I am not a coder nor an expert on Windows, so these are only suggestions.

@hood (#114) - as far as I can tell, HL stores it’s settings in it’s datapak files (along with everything else) in an encrypted/compressed format that is not user-readable without some tool (unknown to me). If I am worng in this, someone please correct me, but I have been unable to find any registry keys that store something besides the game path, and the cfg files simple list the executables, dll’s, and packed files within the .dat files. I would suggest making the entire HL folder NOT read-only (right-click on the HL folder, select Properties, unckeck the Read-Only box, and click OK - make sure you select “Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files” in the Confirm Attribute Changes dialogue box that pops up and hit OK). If anyone has found any user-readable config files, please post (you should make those NOT read-only as well).

@fernando (#112) - I’m assuming that you have a DX 10 compatable video card (GeForce 8000 series or Radeon HD series) and can run other games in DX 10. HL makes use of the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to detect hardware (see posts #10 and #18). Run dxdiag (Start>Run then type “dxdiag”) to verify that your system considers itself DX 10 compatible, make sure WMI is active (you’ll need to check that the services relating to WMI are active - I can’t remember where the Vista tool to do this is, check Google), and update your video card drivers (though it sounds like you should stick with the Catalyst 7.8 drivers for now if you have an ATI/AMD video card).

@Dan (#111) - It sounds like HL can’t find the kernel32.dll system file (located in the system32 directory of your Windows directory). Make sure that 1) this file exists and 2) the Environment Variable “Path” contains the entries “%SystemRoot%” and “%SystemRoot%\system32″ (see the NOTE at the top of my post - the value field for “Path” is a semi-colon separated list; if either of the entries is missing, add a semi-colon at the end of the list and add the appropriate entry).

@Devin (#110) - HL is either failing to read from a data file or failing to start the sound or video rendering engine. Make sure your video and sound drivers are up-to-date. If the problem persists, try re-installing. If the problem persists, there may be a software conflict with the game engine (anti-virus and drive emulation programs like Daemon Tools are common sources of conflicts). Quit all non-essential programs and re-launch HL. You can check what processes your machine is launching at startup by running (Start>Run) “msconfig” and clicking the Startup tab, though you probably shouldn’t change any of the settings unless you know what you’re doing.

@Soviet (#109) - Did you try re-installing? If it’s a problem with a HL dll, that might fix it. Otherwise, see my response to #111, part 2.

@Anonymous (#108) - If you have a legitimate copy of the game, disable any anti-copy-protection software (Daemon Tools, YASU, SafeDiscHider, etc.), and make sure the game disc is in the same drive you installed from. If you have a stolen copy of the game, then that’s why it’s failing to authenticate :-P

@apocdude (#107) - See my response to #112 concerning WMI.

@Belias (#103) - Make sure you have a supported video card (Radeon 9000 or better, or GeForce 6200 or better). If so, see my response to #110.

    More later.

Crizz(#116) here again made a slight mistake on problem reading..

My problem isn’t exactly the same as #7. It doesn’t give me an error message, it just crashes, and windows insists I close the application.

Screens are running Dualview, so that’s not the issue.
I have reinstatlled mutliple times to no avail..

Also runs in Single Player DX9 Mode at Maximum without any strain, as soon as I load the DX10 executable, it crashes, and sticks up a nice error box which has the title

    ‘Windows - No Disk’
    Error is as follows:
    “Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0×7583023C 0×8545C9DC 0×7583023C 0×7583023C”
3 options “Cancel” “Try Again” “Continue” each does as much as the last; Nothing.

i have latest drivers for everything and my specs:

Hellgate London worked fine on my PC except for the message “CPU Speed 0MHz detected”… After reinstalling both windows and the game due to a registry error, windows is fine, but hellgate simply shows a blank screen after the splash screen and stops… It doesn’t hang, but doesn’t proceed also… I’ve updated my drivers etc and every other game runs fine… Reinstalling hellgate doesn’t work… Please help!!!

Tried HGL multi-player server last Friday night 11th Jan 08, got “There’s a problem with your copy of Hellgate London”, windows tries to find the cause, fails, so you bomb out! Tried all w/e to connect, finally worked for no reason on Monday night - I can only assume the server was down for maintenance over that w/e. I’ve heard that the 0.6 patch for single-users cause massive problems for multi-users, but I’m upset that Flagship Studios did not appologize for th eoutage, and have not to date replied to my request for information on what happened (hence this post).

HGL - Crossed Swords & Shields with graphics card error, game still playing in background (Vista x32, Nvidia 8800GTX, DX10, 2GB fast DDR3 RAM).
Researched the web and found a HGL memory leak problem causes this - if you access your examine (in Inventory) too often, then it uses up all your GPU memory. There’s a fix in 0.7 to deal with this - still waiting for this patch to come out.
Meanwhle, I switched to Dx9 - same problem, set back to DX10, turned anti-aliasing down one setting from very high to high, uses less memory, then restricted use of examine in game - not had the error since.
    Hope it helps you guys?

To #19 and #96. I had the same problem just now.
It started as an in game bug that prevented me from reading my party members chat, after i restarted the game, it only displayed the chat scroll bar.
It seems to be a problem with the multiplayer .exe becoming corrupt. I replaced the updated .exe with the original (it is on the Hellgate DVD) and started the game. It updated again, but it sure beats a reinstall.

When I install a fresh copy of my retail Hellgate london, (I’ve installed and updated the fixes and patches known) it starts up fine. I go online with it, it starts downloading all kinds of stuff(why this couldn’t be included in the patch I dont know) and then it restarts, giving me an error after the splash screen saying it’s crashed.. and wont start up any way. I’ve had this before, so I deleted the settings.xml and launcher.ini. that used to work. but it doesnt’anymore…

European Server Hosts at it again - this w/e 19/20 Jan 08, started HGL as usual, got the same error as last w/e Post #124 “There’s a problem with your copy of Hellgate London”.
I suppose if I try it tonight it will be working.

Does anyone know if they were updatng the server this w/e as well. Not being able to play over the w/e is killing my game (the 2 days I’ve got time off to game all day and I can’t get on)? If this continues, then I’ll bin HGL and spend all my time on COD4MW!

  130. ShadowJack — January 21, 2008 @ 10:00 pm

    Ok Guys,
    Ref #129 above.
Finally tracked down the link I needed (on this website) HGL Stonehenge going live today 21-Jan-2008, so that’s why the server was down the whole w/e, they were loading up Patch 0.7!! Could have given more notice, or even a message from the server this was happening - making people think their pc is at fault (and a lot of people would do a rull de/reinstall - all in vain) is not funny.

  131. SahdowJack — January 22, 2008 @ 10:09 pm

HGL still not working - so deinstalled completely, removed directories, used CC cleaner, checked registry for lost links etc. Reinstalled game from disk, it loaded fine and downloaded updates - working great now.
I got HGL very early on, so it’s been patched many times since (one must have corrupted something), so a clean install fixed it (for now).
Note, you can ignore the Register/Account screen, just watch the progress of the green bar installing the game at the bottom. Note, you’re already registered, so, you cannot enter the same account name, nor use the cd-key to register another name. Register on another server (US instead of EU) if you want a new account.

I have installed hellgate london, and everything works fine.

Today when the patch came out, it won’t install. I get an Error: Cannot find Hellgate: London.

I did copy the file from another computer because I was having problems installing (No CD-Drive, gave it to a friend, he installed and sent it to me), I’m guessing I put it in the wrong folder or something, or am missing a file.

    Help is much appreciated.

Downloaded Patch 1.0 Stonehenge Multi-Player, 45 min to download, seconds to install, with no problems. Played 3hrs solid, super fast, no server issues and most (99%) the little annoying bugs are gone - well done Flagship Studios (for a change).
They held back release to fix 2 major bugs in the patch (could have been the cause of the server access issues experienced earlier)! Now that’s the way to go - release stuff when Quality Control & Beta Testers certify it works!!!
Back to being a fun game again - thanks to the development team.

Patch 1.0 installed.. and everything starts up just fine :) no more weird startup bugs.. now and then I have some weird hangups and crashes though, but that’s after 1.5 hours of play or something. windows gives me a message that the application is unstable and should be closed, if I dont it just freezes after a minute or so.

    @132
I’m having the exact same problem (the patch “can’t find Hellgate London”) I’m almost positive all we need to do is put the proper install path in the right place in the registry, but I don’t know where that would be.

Would someone with a properly installed version of Hellgate look in their registry (run regedit), search for “Flagship Studios” and find where in the registry it records the install path?

I get some weird error about my kernell32.dll file.. It says it doesn’t find “GetProcessHandleCount”.. But I checked the file and there is a string there with that text.
What can I do about it?

Hellgate London worked perfectly for a while, and I loved it, then suddenly it crashed upon startup. I have tried system restore and a complete reinstall of the game with no luck.

Apparently ntdll.dll is the culprit, but I do not know how to fix the issue.

The problem only occurs with the dx9 version of the multiplayer. DX10M, DX9S and DX10S work perfectly. Unfortunately my card is a bit too weak to run it in DX10 without serious framerate drops. (Nvidia GeForce 8600 something)

The crash log is as follows every single time.
