Problem #1 : Call of Duty 4 Installation error 1305
Solution A : have your CoD4 replaced. It’s possible that your CoD4 disk is damaged.
Solution B : If you do have a legit cd key, and your dvd drive isn’t working for you. Download the torrent from btjunkie and use your cdkey to install it. Let me know if you need help on how to do it. (by Franjo)
Problem #2 : Connection to Server timed out on all Call of Duty 4 servers or no servers listed in the lobby.
Solution A : If you are on a router, Make sure that the ports that Call of Duty 4 uses are properly forwarded
Solution B : Make sure that your firewall is not blocking Call of Duty 4’s internet access
Problem #3 : Call of Duty 4 cannot connect to the master server (”waiting for master server”)
Workaround A : filter the results to display CoD4 servers http://www.game-monitor.com/search.php?game=cod4 (suggested by Rizla)
Solution B: See solution to problem #2
Problem #4 : Installation gets stuck on iw_00.iwd
Solution : No known solution yet.
Problem #5 : Call of duty 4 punkbuster error on startup (”cant run punkbuster”)
Solution : Download the latest punkbuster from http://www.punkbuster.com/ (preferably the one for COD4). (as posted by UGH Hunter)
Problem #6 : iw3mp.exe error in Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer
Solution A : rename mssmp3.asi to mssmp3.bak.(from Elem3nt and franjo)
Solution B : From activision(do this only if Solution A doesnt fix it)
There are some issues running CoD 4 multiplayer on some onboard sound cards. If you have a RealTek(TM) onboard sound card and Windows(R) Vista you should try removing your sound card drivers and allow Windows Vista to install it’s default sound drivers. Please make note of the make and model of your sound card prior to removing it in order to aid in reinstallation at a later date.
To remove your sound card drivers do the following:
- Open the control panel link from the start menu
- Check the programs and features tool to see if your sound card drivers are listed here
- If they are not open the system tool in the control panel
- Click on the device manager task on the left
- Locate your sound card in the list, it should be in the sound, video, and game controllers section
- Right-click on the sound card name and select Uninstall.
If you have a Sigmatel® onboard sound card you will need to install all Windows® Vista updates, and the latest Sigmatel drivers from www.dell.com. Please navigate from the dell homepage to support, your make and model computer, and look for a sound card update.
If you are running the game from a secondary partition, download the latest BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer in addition to following the above instructions.
Problem #7 : Call of Duty 4 Error message “DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error”
Solution A : If you have Xfire installed, turn off Xfire (from franjo at CoD4forums.com)
Solution B : Update Xfire to the latest version, they may have already patched it.
Problem #8 : I downloaded Call of Duty 4 optimizer from an unknown dude and it didnt improve the performace of the game
Solution A : Uninstall it, scan your PC for viruses… you’ve just been keylogged.
Problem #9 : when i try to run the single player it tells me to “insert the correct DVD ROM”
Solution : instead of using the desktop shortcut, trying going through the start menu. (from franjo)

If iw3mp.exe (multiplayer) crashes try plugging in your microphone, for some odd reason that seems to fix it. Sounds stupid but it fixed it for me and many others.

The PS3 version of COD 4 has a particular problem where if you try to plan online, it sits forever on “DOWNLOADING GAME SETTINGS…” or once it unsticks from that you hear the ‘working’ sound (like small servo motor sound) for 10 seconds about rapidly, then the screen goes black and says, “You must be logged into Playstation Network.” Now, i’m no expert but how does this happen when the hardware specs for all ps3’s are so identical that on a straight unfiltered internet connection it won’t connect. It has worked before, for a day, and then suddenly in a game the host disconnected and then after no success. Anybody else having this problem?
Once I plugged something into my mic port on my computer, my multiplayer worked like a charm. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of and I hope there is going to be a patch for it soon.
installed cod4, played a couple of minutes, then it crashed with the “send & don`t send” error… i reinstalled the game, but the same problem…i have a 2gigs processor, 1gb ram, gforce 6600gt…what is troubling me is that the game worked fine at the beginning, then suddenly this crash

i have also tried from the start menu,also running mulityplayer,then switching to singleplayer to no avail,
done everything on avtivision website in there customer support forum.

When I try starting the game, it just crashes with an error report screen. This happens in both MP and SP. I’ve tried updating drivers but it doesn’t help.
I tried to go trought the start menu but it still keeps telling me this insert the correct DVD ROM multiplayer works fine.
when i try to run the single player it tells me to “insert the correct DVD ROM” I tried everything to fix it, went onto the support site did everything they said to do. I am really stumped here…

To overcome the “insert the correct DVD ROM” message in single player, do what it says: Re-insert the DVD, wait for it to autostart and then run the game in single player from the dvd splash screen. A bore I know, but it is the only thing we can do until the problem is fixed… Hope that helps.
I don’t have an un-fixable problem. But how do you forward all the ports so CoD4 can communicate with the router?

tried loading from splash, program folder, start menu and it still says wrong dvd.
For those experiencing the “Connection Time out” error in Call of duty 4, add the [seta cl_connectionAttempts "60"] line to the “…profiles\string\config_mp.cfg” file. this will adjust the timeout delay to 1 minute.

just tried contacting activision regarding the dvd rom insert correct dvd error,phoned 3 times waiting 25 min to an hour to get connected,give up in the end,iam puttung my game on ebay had enough.they should have done more research before launching the game.

I am playing the single player and the lighting for certain objects flickers on and off rapidly. For example the car that the president is thrown into is a black silhouette.
i get the “please insert correct dvd-rom” only when i use my SATA drive(7170s) it works fine on the same PC with any of my two NEC drives(both IDE)

@ All the guys with “Please insert correct DVD-ROM, and restart the application”, your DVD drive is having a conflict with the protection system that the disc uses, whether it is SafeDisc 4.x or Securom 7.x, I don’t know.
The best bet would be to goto http://www.google.com, and search for the make and model of your DVD drive and Firmware. Example would be if you have a NEC 3550A then you would search for “NEC 3550A Firmware Update”, read the instructions carefully when downloading, as installing the wrong one can damage your drive.
If that fails, it means your DVD drive is too old. Time to get a new one buddy.
I finally got into a server to play this game and was in it for about 5 minutes and then I got this error: The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume COD4MW into drive E.

One method of fixing the single player error “please insert the correct disk in the correct drive” message is to go to
the device manager / hardware / find your ATA controller /
click properties / you will then find the primary and secondary channels. Hopefully your cd/dvd rom will be on the
master on the secondary , if not it could be the slave on the master, doesn’t matter. What matters is that you know
so you can switch the correct one. Now after you find the drive , it should be set at like Ultra DMA 66. Change it to
PIO. PIO is the old original, slower than Ulta DMA, but it will force the game to load single player. It wont make the game slower, because your drive is just autherizing the game and then shutting off again. When done click apply, you will then be asked to restart your computor, do so
and it will work. Insert the dvd, let the splash screen come up select single player from there. After you beat the game
switch it back to ultra 66, restart ect. Ultra uses less cpu for watching movies, ripping ect. This works for me, when nothing else, including a re-format didnt.I purchased a collecters copy at Best Buy, I have another computor similar to the one i have to change the dma on, it works fine,
so it is a mistery, I even took the dvd out of that one and installed it into the other, and it wouldnt work, it must be a security bug. later lol

Try to start singleplayer game, flashes the screen, and minimizes to the desktop. Cannot maximise. The game continues playing in the background…. Tried replacing GPU drivers (Nvidia Go 7700 512mb), to no avail…

I solved it myself. I downgradede my videocard: Radeon 800pro driver 7.8 to 7.4 and now I can enter the game!!
BUT! When if I do anything in the menu it just jump out of the game, with no warnings´or errors… So this is where I stand right now…(so i havn’t played the game yet)..

You muppet! Dont you know Dell suck ass when it comes to gaming pc’s? Go to a place and get a custom gaming pc built man, thats what i did, none of any ofe the above mentioned problems. Be a true gamer fork out for the hardware to play the games!!

WOW…I can’t believe that plugging my MIC in actually fixed this… How do you explain that as a fix, I didn’t even believe it until I was at the end of my rope and was willing to try anything…it almost makes me angry that that was overlooked by the powers that be.

Why do you tell people to by new components for there pc like “Looks like you gonna have to get a new card buddy” or “it means your DVD drive is too old. Time to get a new one buddy”. If you haven’t realized it yet let me shed a little light on the subject for you. COD4 has more bugs in it than a ant farm! Theres nothing wrong with these peoples components!!! If you going to give advice atleast make it intelligent advice.
I loaded this game and played until the car scene where the dude gets shot. The game locks up and I have to reboot. I am running an FX-60 CPU with 2gig of ram and an EVGA 8800GTX card. This should not happen. What can I do??????

Installed it 10 times already because it will not play, at first I had a firewall issue and I fixed that and now it just keeps crashing after I hit the spacebar to skip the “intro” on MP and SP this is bull I’m getting sick of it. MY NERVES CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!

The game keeps crashing even if I let the intro play all the way through. It says it wasn’t properly shut down and to run in safe mode. the characters are completely black. thats if I can get it to load a mission, usually it crashes before I can even go into anything. please help very frustrated. My computer is definitely fast enough to run this I don’t know what the probelm is.

If your singleplayer just flash but doesnt start here is one way to fix it.. Remove “mssmp3.asi” file from your miles folder and it should run fine.

No I didn’t download it. I have reinstalled it but it didn’t work. I just bought it in mediamarkt, a legal shop.

Hmm.. Then its harder to fix but still possbile. First thing you can try is this: Copy your “zone” folder from Cod 4 directory (over 2 gigs) and paste it to “C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\” or “c:\windows\”.

Just tried it. Didn’t work. On my other PC, I also get errors on all the files that are in the miles folder. These errors appears before the “Fastfile for zone ‘code_post_gfx’ is corrupt or unreadable.” It says that these files are not valid image files

I know someone who couldn’t play the game at all with the original disc in any of his drives until he did a format and fresh install of XP. He had the “please insert original DVD-Rom” error. suddenly it works fine, he had installed Daemon tools and Alcohol on his system in the past. Now he hasn’t got them installed on his PC, and isn’t planning to do so any time soon. The game works fine, the same thing happened with Crysis. Also someone posted that the characters were black, post 58. I had that problem when i updated the drivers on my graphics card, 7900GTX. When i reverted back to an earlier version of the drivers it was OK again. But now i’m having problems with Crysis under Vista 32 bit version, damn thing crashes after 3 min’s. It runs OK in XP.
Oh my :/ I need a moment to think about this.. Make sure that you have all drivers and directx etc. what need to be.. I will be back here when i have new idea about this! -d2b-

From Activision they said: If you have uninstall the game, delete the game folder, and then reinstall the game and the patches and it still doesnt work.. you probably have a bad disc. Try replacing the game at the store you bought it! Hope you can do it.

I encounter this damn devil… My computer crashes after about… 5-55 minutes of multiplayer! It keeps looping the same sound and ofcourse… The screen is messed up!
Computer should be good enough to take care of it…
And the most weird thing is… That it self the single player can be played almost like 12 hours in a row without a crash, freeze or any lag!

Well d2b.. I get no error messages or have a chance to shutdown the computer the regular way…
And when it freezes the computer… It keeps looping a single sound and the screen gets stuck to the image that was you seeing a second before freeze!
The biggest guess of mine is that this is some random freezing… Because after the freezing… I started the computer up again and played for 4 hours with no crash at all!

I exited Daemon Tools and turned off my virtual drive from ultraISO and it works fine now.
I bought Call of Duty 4 and it wont even start to install or read the disc on my cdrom drive… so were supposed to have dvd rom for this game only. any way around this?
I’m having the same random crashes as Tribunality.
Random, only in mutliplay, looping sounds and messing the comp. No error messages. I’m force to close it from the task manager. Since it’s always happening with sounds loopig endlessly, I was suspecting a sound issue.

I’ve got the same problem as a few people here, no real solution works for me yet, SINGLE PLAYER flashes the splash loading screen, then crashed, I’ve renamed/removed mssmp3.asi to no avail, MULTI-PLAYER works fine, I can join games, host them everything is great, but the reason I want to play…single player, is busted, any new ideas?

Fastfile zone errors:
You need to replace the current ‘zone’ file you have in the COD4 directory with a fresh one. You may try and get it directly from your own CD but that may already be corrupt. I just got my friend’s COD4 CD and took the “zone” folder from that and replaced my old one in the COD4 directory. And now no more errors from the fastfile crap. So you may have a bad disk if you get these errors. Get a new one!
Direct X errors:
Make sure your resolution is the same in-game as your monitor resolution you have for windows. You will get errors if you do not. I had this problem and this solution worked.
iw3mp.exe errors:
Most likely you have Realtek sound installed. Uninstall that and let windows install its own sound drivers. This will take care of that. For some reason I would make sure to have a MIC plugged in just in case…

I’m having an issue where mp just locks up my system completely causing a reboot. I have a foxconn mobo with realtek sound onboard and running windows xp. Is there a realtek issue w/ xp as well or just vista? I tried renaming the mssmp3.asi and that didn’t work. Will getting a sound card resolve the realtek issue?

Hi, I hope this can help some ppl with the issue I described on post 82, the same as Tribunality on post 76.
I read on Charlie Oscar Delta forum that there was some problem with tweaking program such as RivaTuner, wich I am using to control my gpu fan speed… simply disabled it and it has stop crashing in multiplay…
though, I also bought a new sound card (’cause I had other issues with other games with the other sound card I had wich was given with my mobo) and it did fix alot of lag in many games…
So I dont know if its shutting down rivatuner + the sound card or only shutting down rivatuner that works (because even with the new sound card mp crashes when riva fan controller is on) but u might wanna give a try on disabling any tweaking devices such as Rivatuner…

When I try to run COD4, a message comes up that says Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare couldn’t write a file. The hard drive is probably full.

Here is the deal my brothers. This is a temp fix but damn, no one else had had anything that worked. After you replaced the iw3sp.exe and you try to run the SP and it fails with the aforementioned error try the following, my brother found this after four hours of bull shizz, But there was a post earlier that really helped You need to replace the current ‘zone’ file you have in the COD4 directory with a fresh one inside your program file x86… zone.. english..etc Take that one common or both but not anymore than those two common files. Then inside your C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4\Modern Warfare double click the iw3sp.exe. It should load right up. HOWEVER. something happens to those files because my brother has to do it every single time he wants to play SP. We think something happens to the files once activated???? Who knows. Hope this helps. We are both running vista 64bit. He has a intel quad core with 8GB of ram so kiss it. =)
I have 32 bit vista home premium but when trying to intall COD4 it gets past key input and the freezes around installing english language. The tech lads at my works have built the Pc for me and all specs are fine. We just cannot seem to overcome the problem. I’ve spoke to people who are running COD4 on vista 32 without problems. We have updated all drivers, so not sure if direct x or similar thing stopping progress. Please help pc is christmas present for my son and dont want to disappoint him

A little more info to help you out. Kick out all your system specs..be detailed on you video card. Also, please inform if you have any other games installed and are running fine. I understand so far that you are not having any error messages but freezing. Shout back.
I have ATI Radeon 9250 which is to my understanding doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements, however when I try starting the game it says “Error during initialization:
Video card or driver doesn’t support separate alpha blend, glow will be disabled.”
Okay, I don’t care about this “glow” but the game still won’t start, is there a way I could modify some file so that the glow is disabled by default?

I get random freezes and crashes while playing COD4 MP, i can play about 10-30min when the game freezes and then i even cant get back to windows it is so freez!?
here is my stuf –>
Intel dualcore 6300, 8800gtx, memory 2G, directx 9.0c, audio SB X-FI Pro gamer, display 22″ viewsonic.
i use rivatuner for 8800gtx fan.
I have read through all of these posts and I have come to the conclussion that this game is bug ridden.
I am getting an error message as follows -

Juat installed Vista and graphics card (8600gts) and my PC freezes and reboots after 5-20 mins. Any ideas would be welcome
I’ve replaced my COD4 Disk three times and still get install error 1305 - has anyone been able to fix this problem?
For the ps3 version of cod4 the game keeps freezing in act 1 mission 4, at any time during that mission. Also the multiplayer is broken.
i have an athlon xp 3200 (2.2 ghz and a geforce 7300 gt (agp slot) 1 gigo ram. when I first load the game I can do the first training mission, no lag or anything-works great. Then it loads next mission and just before the mission starts the game ends and I am back to desktop. No error message nothing. It sometimes will do this when I first start the game (before getting to options screen) I have disabled the introplay and tweaked my graphics, putting them all low and then back to optimum reccomended setings and same thing.
What bugs me is that when it has played it has played flawlessly, making me feel that my comp can handle it fine even though I am just barely below min requirements. Any ideas?
Well, i got the issue with the zone. I Bought the game from steam and i cant go to the store as activision said. What do i do? I cant get it to work, just keeps downloading and downloading ;( why ? i wanna play my whole weekend is runied now. damn u. i want my money back.
Wow, well I have found a fix for my issues. Thought it was a graphics thing, but it wasnt. It was the protection on the cd itself. I had alcohol 120% loaded on my computer (cd emulation software). The software was disabeld, but still present on my system. I removed it from programs and now my game runs perfectly on its quality reccomended settings. Yehaw!. I hope this fix helps others.
I have a problem where I am playing cod4 on PC and after a rnaodm amount of time (could be 5 mins, could be 2 h) it will crash, the whole sound lags out and my pc is crashed (the sound repeats) then all the xp etc I gained that round is gone.
I have updated drivers/ changed them to older ones to no avail.

I am playing single player and if i try to skip into the game crashes. When i let the intro go on, i start my SP game and the computer just shuts off and crashes. My computer meets the system requirments
i cant use the “create a class feature when im online, but this is on ps3. I am well past the stage when i should be able to use it, and i cant contact infinity ward by any means, its pissing me off big time.
i have refreshed my list of servers (multiplayer) but now there are no more servers to chose. i’ve also tried to refresh it again but there are still no servers
i have the latest patch and i’ve played online untill that incident.

Hi i’ve found that by uninstalling “PowerISO” or any programs similar removes the error of singleplayer not loading due to “cannot find file insert correct dvd” or whatever the warning was. hope this helps

Hi all, does anyone has the same problem or solution for it? During installing CoD4 it got stuck at around 70% on the file “launchfacility_b_load.bik” and simply doesn’t move on any further.
My system specs Vista 64bit, Intel Quad Core, 2 X 2GB RAM, MSI Geforce 8800GT, 500GB Seagate SATA HD, 2 X Samsung DVD-RW.
Could it be that I’m installing using a DVD-RW instead of a normal DVD-ROM drive?
Changed the DVD from retailer twice so could not be disk error.
Will try later to install on my XP Laptop to see if it works.

I can see that ALOT of people are having the ERROR 1305 issue, and that replacing the disk does not help. Same here. Its getting very frustrating. Hope Activision or IW will give us a little more help. Any help would be appreciated. Argh.
Hi this is regarding to the error 1305 for call of duty 4: Modern warfare.
I believe I have resulted the conclusion of this.
You have to do a clean boot on your operating system.
That’s what I did and it worked. Please do this at your own risk, if you feel necassary please contact activision.com for more information or your computer manufacturer. But I can say I did it and it worked for me.

Type: msconfig
A window will pop up and in the “General tab” click selective startup. Uncheck all of these, then hit OK.
It will prompt you to restart your computer then after that his complete go back to the same place.
Start>run> type: msconfig.
Then hit: Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services.
Then hit okay then it will prompt you to restart again. Then after it restarts insert your game and have a go, it should work..

I was having the same issue that quite a few here were having. CoD 4 would constantly crash, either right after playing the intro videos, in the main menu, after playing for a short amount of time, and I would have stutters in the main menu aswell. Changing the resolution or sound settings would also often cause a crash or lockup.
I tried everything I could find, changing to 800×600, turning down or turning off sound accelleration, turning off DirectX video accelleration, updating all drivers, ect. ect.
I also tried renaming some files in the “miles directory”, didn’t help. The best I could get was a couple minutes of play-time before a crash.
BUT!
I FOUND A FIX! At least it fixed my problems, completely!!! : )
What did I do? Well, I deleted the entire “miles” folder in the CoD 4 directory. Yeah, you would think those would have been important in some way. But, the only difference I noticed is that I have not had a single problem of any sort since I deleted that stupid directory and all of the files in it.
I do not know if there are any adverse effects, or what they are, but I’m assuming those were some kind of sound settings. Whatever they were, they don’t seem essential or even important.
SO, if you are having constant crashes on loading, stuttering, stalls, lockups, even DirectX errors, try deleting your “miles” directory! It worked for me! : )
whenever i try to start up the CoD4 multiplayer it works fine, but if i try to play my single player it says “Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application” ive tried reinstalling it, and i only have one drive so i cant try doing it in another. Ive even tried to start it up from the programs menu and no success. Any clues?

By the way, I personally can’t get the game to run correctly using an ATI Catalyst driver newer than version 7.7. If you have an ATI card and are having problems using a newer driver, try using version 7.7.
IF you can’t get help on here or other forums, goto activision.com and then explain your situation to them as close to exact of the error as possible, show them pictures if you have to, if they can’t help you which they should be able to, then go to your computer manufacturer and get help there, like mine is an HP computer, you should find direction.
UPDATE to post 114 for Error: -1632.
After no help from Activision or Installshield i decided to completely reload Vista.
This fixed the problem. COD4 now works fine.
next step will be to completely wipe the POS Vista from the machine and install XP Pro.
Lou~Too bad we all have to go through drastic events to just get the game to work.
It’s a fun game, but I think it needs reconsidering if they come out with CAD5.
Or atleast have people who can work through any known issues with the next game. But I do commend them for getting this game out, it is fun.

I’m having all sorts of problems with my COD4 at the moment. Funny thing is, I initially installed the game and played it straight away (in single player) and it worked fine for the 2 hours or so that I was playing it. After saving and quitting without any errors, I went back to it later to play some more, only to find that the gameplay was really slow and jerky.
I have no idea what was causing that, but after saving and quitting normally again, I restarted my PC and tried again. This time when clicking on single player shortcut, after a long delay, it would come up with a not very helpful Windows error about iw3sp.exe.
I couldn’t understand why it was doing that either, so i uninstalled and re-installed the game. Only to find that at the end of the installation process, it was having troubles reading the game DVD and now does nothing at all when trying to play the single player game.
Anyways, I will try all solutions listed here when I get home this evening and will let you know what works.

OK, well I got mine working again, by changing the DMA setting on my cd-rom drive and I also disabled the autorun feature. Not sure which one worked and don’t want to mess around with it now as I’m just glad I got it working again!

COD4, MUTIPLAYER START UP. I have a new PC vista 32 been playiing the game fine for weeks. Recently my monitor shuts down and PC remains on even hear the sounds. Is this a virus? Monitor is new. It is not a temp issue. Any fixes out there.
Have to say, this sucks. Had COD4 working fine and completed the single player. Upon attempting to start playing multiplayer, I got the serial key error- someone else using my key. So I uninstalled the game with the intention of changing the key (not knowing then that you can do it via the registry editor) and now the thing won’t play again! I think the problem is due to me SPLITTING the ISO file and burning it onto disk and then trying to get in back together rather than using the actual disk (lost doh). Figure I must’ve damaged the file then. I originally had problems with the “miles” folder, but fixed that. Had the code_(something)_gfx.ff error. Said it was corrupt or unreadable- and yet now that error message doesn’t come up! Instead the screen just goes black for a moment and then crashes back to the desktop. I have to quit the program through the task manager. And the annoying thing is, single player doesn’t work either! Any ideas? I have googled this for ages, but no-one seems to have a real idea. I think I will just download the Razor1911 version coz there is no way I’m going to buy another copy.

is making my life hell. I work at the local library, and we have 17 computers. the computers are set up with multiple accounts I.E. Admin acct, Gamer acct, and training account. i have installed the game to the administrator account and inserted the shortcut and enabled the shortcut to the gamer account. The game runs fine on the admin acct, but i get the error “”COD4: couldnt write a file, the hard drive is probably full” on the gamer acct. but…. there is plenty of space on the HD. are there any easy fixes for this that anyone knows about?
Re-Formating the drives on all 17 computers is NOT an option. any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
When i try to install call of duty 4, halfway through the installation it restarts my computer.
when i quit the game on the muliplayer options my computer freezes and nothing can be done, except restart my computer, i did not have this problem till i formatted my computer.
I figured out how to fix the problem with mine all u do is un-install the game when it says “would you like to install punkbuster” SAY YES OR ELSE IT WONT WORK!!!

Sounds funny, but if you have this mssmp3.asi issue and you are not getting fixed it with those A and B options. You think your last resort is to plug-in your mic, and bad fortune is following you, so you dont have mic. DONT FORRY, you can replace that mic with your headphones! Just plug it in as a mic and good luck to the multiplayer.

I had this problem, and at the time my processor was stuck at 100% usage constantly. After i fixed that, when re-installing the game it no longer got stuck at iw_00.iwd . I suggest those who are having this problem Check their CPU usage. IF you have your CPU running 100% Constantly that may be your problem.

Not sure how my Processor got freed up all i know is I had a power Outage this morning and it was fixed.
The multiplayer version works fine however whenever I start the single player one it immediately reboots the pc with no error message. I’ve installed all the patches sequentially and am running a Athlon 64×2 4600+ a 7900GTO 2gig RAM 800Mhz and 320 gig HDD

I’ve downloaded COD4. I installed 1.4 and 1.5 patch. When I start MP, everything works good without problems, but I can’t even run SP. When I start SP, the picture “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” shows up and then it’s over. I have waited a lot of time, but still nothing. I stay on deskop. I first ran MP too and clicked on “Single Player” tab, but it’s same as I would run from deskop. Can anyone help me?

After instaling and playing the whole game once I’m unable to start the game. After clicking the shortcut or the link in the startmenu form Vista I get the error message “insert the correct DVD ROM”. It all worked fine but now it ……..
I finished the game with no problems, but then whenI play the arcade version, I get to the sniper section of level 2 and go to shoot the machine gunner through the wall, and the game freezes and I get a DirectX error, I don’t have any problem other then that, any idea how to fix it?, I have all the lates DX updates. I Have a pretty new pc with Vista 32bit a dlink router and roadrunner cable internet connection currently faster than any other connect and pay out the nose for it. I was able to play for about 5-10 minutes on the multiplayer mode before it knocks out my interent connect totally. I have no trouble with the single player mode. I have forwarded all the ports
ran diagonsics on my pc and even fully opened my pc on my router to the internet and still only CoD4 crashes my internet causing a full modem reboot. Can someone please help me.

When I played Call of duty 4 the game worked fine before but it used to lag but not anymore… now after I played multi player the single player stopped lagging but the background music played through the single player wasn’t played. The game getting dull without the background music.

hi i have a problem that i have not yet seen any1 with or heard about any1 with it .. basically ill start up cod4mp connect to a server play for about 2 mins then my screen just goes black with the no signal message on my monitor. sumtimes this results in my computer automatically restarting or just freezes and stay black so i have to turn it off and on again..any suggestions?

When I start up Single Player it closes the game and the
“Don’t Send Error” Comes up on the screen. Then it says I can try playing with Safe-Mode but the same thing happens. Please How can I FIX this?
OK, after reading through all these posts, it’s clear that this son of a bitchin’ game has issues with the singleplayer error message, “Please insert the correct DVD ROM.” I have reinstalled twice, same message each time. Un-installed/Re-Installed PunkBuster, no difference. DirecX 9–installed. Activision says it’s firmware and contacting HP (the DVD +/-RW manufacturer) was not successful (they couldn’t tell me jack sh*t). Installed/Reinstalled motherboard drivers. I noticed on the box, it says that the game has “Anti-theft” technology or some bullsh*t so perhaps it was doomed from the start. I would really like to play this game and not sell it….CAN ANYBODY PLEASE HELP ME?? This is clearly a problem that needs to be addressed publicly.

My keyboard works fine out of game, but in game when holding down movement keys, they stop working after a few feet of movement. If I press the key again, the player moves another few feet, then stops again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but no use. Keyboard drivers are up to date. Patched to 1.4, no fix.

When i connect to a server on multiplayer it loads up the map, says waiting for other players to join and then says server disconnect. i havent managed to play one online battle yet thanks to this… any ideas?

I have an issue not listed here:
My PC - XP SP2, Foxcon mobo, 2Gb ram, 256Mb 7600GS card, all SATA drives (incl the DVD) - has just spit the dummy for the second time, just after playing CoD4 with the 1.4 & 1.5 patches.
Symptoms are indicative of a loss of windows mission critical files, causing a failure of XP to boot.
First time around I felt certain that the issue was one of HDD failure and I eventually gave up attempting to repair XP, bit the bullet, replaced and reinstalled. What a headache as this is also an edit suite as well as my business pc…
So, after I had completed the re-install on a brand new HDD, along with all the driver updates etc as needed, and about 2 weeks into a successful completion of same with all working fine I launched CoD4, upgraded to patch 1.5 and played briefly, and finding jerky graphics I quit, increased my paging file, rebooted and SH*T! - XP is gone again.
Now here’s the thing: I’m not at all certain CoD4 is the culprit, but neither do I believe in coincidence.
I am fairly sure that the first time around I was de-XP’d following game-play as well, and that time I was unable to repair Windows despite doing a fair amount of work - like (this did enable me to re-start XP, but failure after different failure followed until I gave up), and I was forced to re-install.
Is there anyone out there with a similar experience - that of losing Windows XP integrity after a reboot immediately following play of the game?

Just completed chkdsk /p on my brand new HDD (WD250) to have the following reported:

Hmm - brand new HDD, exact same symptoms.
Cooling s fine - well vented, in fact very noisy, with enough fans to fill a rock stadium.
The first HDD I swapped out is a Seagate 250, and it exhibited EXACTLY the same problems as far as I could tell.
Coincidence?
I think not.
Am I doing something to cause this - or is it the game?
btw- I have the game folder installed on a different “GAME” HDD (SATA) named H:/Games/etc

I tried to get into console by pressing ~ and ` both of them are not working …:( it was working before.. any suggestion ?
When i connect to a server on multiplayer it loads up the map, says waiting for other players to join and then says server disconnect. i havent managed to play one online battle yet thanks to this… any ideas?

COD4 still crashing when I try to join a private server!
I did installed COD 4, but showed me “send/dont send error” everytime i execute the game. I didnt find any solution for that, now the problem is that when i try to reinstall the game, it asked me if i want to completely remove the game when i already did uninstalled it already. I deleted the game folder, registry entries, run disk cleaner, etc.. Restarted my pc then try to install again, but same thing happens, it ask me if i want to “remove” it completely. Can you please or have any solution for this problems?? Please relpy soon, it would be appreciated. Thanks

Here’s an issue I have not see much on. I have a Intel Core 2 DUO 3.2 GHZ, 8800 Ultra Video card, 2 gigs of mem, and a DARN SATA drive. Every time time I play in COD 4 it plays fine for a while (about 14 mins to be exact and then the whole computer freezes up. The video card is not getting to hot nor is the CPU. I have downloaded all the patches that are out there, and still no luck on this.I was running XP but now moved to vista due to constant mem dumps and that is now fixed, but now I am still have the issue with the game freezing. I can do anything else play other games etc…….ANY HELP would be GREAT!!!

Does anyone have this problem on single player? the game works great for me, getting through the levels until i get to the AC130 level where your in a plane trying to shoot ground targets from a plane. everytime i get to that level it crashes my computer. i’ve tried toning down the graphics in the game and a few other things but have found nothing that works. has anyone else had this problem? i’m starting to wonder if i have a corrupt copy of the game. thanks in advance

Single player game crash with frame freeze and looping sounds.
On reboot, Windows says can not find Web caused error. CoD4 game stated game crashed and asks if you want to switch to safemode.
I believe this is in part a crash when CoD4 encounters a problem with screen saver. when you do not do much or waiting for something to happen.
Often at reboot, Windows mistakes CoD4 as a boot disk.
Please advise!
After fixing everything from directx to no-cd crack, the multiplayer works very fine, but the single player do not start, it gives me a fast flash screen then nothing happen, GUYS HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS ???

I had a similar experience. I purchased the game Sunday evening and tried playing it Monday, unaware of all of the bad experiences people have had. It crashed at random intervals during play, so I looked up solutions. I found the FAQ on ActiVision and followed the instructions (system exceeds minimum requirements, run at 800×600, etc…) for preventing in game crashes and launched CoD4 again. It crashed, requiring me to hit reset and when I did Windows XP was gone and I could not access any partition on the drive, though they show up in Data Lifeguard. It looks like one partition may be recoverable, but there is no sign of Windows at all on the primary boot partition (even Recovery Console can’t find it). We are working on reinstalling Windows on another drive now.
I got it through Steam and Valve has stated that they do not believe that CoD4 is related to the crash: little do they know about CoD4. I am sending them other reports, including yours.
I have no intention of ever buying another InfintyWard, or ActiVision game and am seriously considering getting an XBox and just not buying anymore PC games.
Regarding my CoD4 related crash. It looks like the MBR got corrupted from one too many resets after the in-game crashes. The disk itself is fine and can now be accessed; no data appears to have been lost.
After some consideration I have determined that IF I do decide to try CoD4 again, it will be on XBox (when and if I get one). I won’t put it on another PC.

in multiplayer getting error just as the server tries to set up the game, “fastfile for zone mp_vacant_load is corrupt or unreadable”
iw3mp.exe keeps popping up & closing the game. This is only happening when I try multiplayer. Someone please help.
I have solved for the most part of the problems. I have learned that if I pause the game at a critical portion where the game has high level of grpahics and action, it will crash!
Also I have extended the screen saver time limit when playing CoD4. This has eliminated the frequent crash problem
I will not go beserk enough to go out and buy an outdated ill concieved and poorly abled Xbox. After all, most of these problems are also related to the Xbox as well from what I have found.
Pausing the game at wrong times in the game will crash even with Xbox.
As far as other issues, time will solve the problems if the developers will actually listen to those of us who have beta and developer experience. I know what causes a couple of the crashes and I have given reasonable solutions for the support team charged with patch fixes.
PC gaming rules over anything that consoles can put out. On cross platform multiplayer, I crush consolers who get pissed all the time. All because, I can modify controls and update patches that consoles can not do. Thus over time, my game performs better on a high quality PC.
Which is key. A good set up requires high quality ram sticks that are identical and must be 4 megs.
upgrade graphic cards every 1.5 to 2 years and you will never have the most common problems. CPU just needs to above average. a core 2 quad is more than enough for most games and is within 90% of people’s budgets.
As I have stated, I have solved all the crash issues though it would be nice if the support team took care of it through the next patch so that a person can pause the game anytime and not have screen saver conflicts and also not have Windows confuse the CoD4 CD as a boot disk.
Those are extremely easy fixes for the support team. I would suggest that those who have had simular crashes to mine look at the solution and take a better look at your pc setup.
Most people can have a top machine for the same cost as a console and have better playability over time.
Its time that people understand that new games have a period of adjustments. Make the adjustments and you can play for years your favorite game. I have one that I have played for more than 12 years. I would kill if the company who made it would update the game and make a new one.
But the idiocy of consoles is numbing the brains out there.
Either high test with beta users and compatibility testers then put out three patches. one at 4 months, 9 months and 1 year. Those three should be more than enough to solve the problem from the release date.
AS A compatibility tester and a beta unit advisor, I know the problems. Too bad, I was not on board with this product!

Your having a video driver conflict. Its in the bios and how your setup is working with Direct X. I would suggest that you contact your OEM provider or builder to walk you through the fix within the bios and video driver. This is one of those items that is annoying with some video cards that are how should I say needing tweeking.
AMD makes good stuff. But there is a video conflict problem with Some Asus boards and with Nvidia.
I am running Intel xenon duos both of which are quads. I am also in sli with two Nvidia 9600GT geforce which actually is the same as having 4 video cards. the single 9600GT benches identical to or slightly better than the 8800GTS.
I am running 8 gig of Crucial Balistics 1066s on 4 sticks which are in 4 gig pairings.

Since the sever I paly on added the latest mod about every third map I get this error “CL_CGame needs sever command” and then I get punted I can go right back in and it will be fine for another three maps, any advice??? Thanks
My brother downloaded COD4 last year and i havent had any trouble with it since. i have installed it more then a few times after partitioning and reformatting my hard drive and havent encountered any problems that i can see so far. So if i were you i would check my hard drive for viruses and Bad Sectors and make sure you have PC with above the recommended requirements just to be safe. The more Ram you have will also stabilize the game if your running a PC with 1gb or less memory. Also this could only be a problem with vista as it still has a few kinks that still need to be worked out so run the game on XP with the SP3 service pack. if this doesnt help then download the Update and CD crack. It also might be the fault of the company as some hardware may not be fully compatible with the game so make sure you have the latest drivers for your hardware. i hope this helps for all of you having trouble with the game. Wow this game is picky!
At first it all looked good, I got into the game and changed screen rez to same as my desktop - then I got the horrible when you click on the Single player game - it does nothing.
This is the order I did things:
Install game
Install 1.6 patch
Start Single Player -> Change Screen Rez to 1152×864
Played game for about 2 minutes then BLACK SCREEN and it does not do anything more.
Reboot
Renamed Miles directory in game to Miles_OLD
I also copied the files from zone\english on the cd over to the same directory in the game (not sure if this helped or not)
I tried running the 1.6 patch again - but it says it was already installed.
I also deleted my player profile in the profiles directory.
One of those things made me get back into the game.
Changed the settings to 800×600, and no problems since.
I have a feeling that my computer simply does not have enough power to run my graphics card at high levels. It has similar problems on Crysis.
If all else fails - get a new power supply, that’s next on my shopping list. Hope this helped someone!

Ok help PLEASE!. First off for the Direct X unrecoverable error, i just re installed Direct X and rebooted my pc and it worked! now please help me! One day I was just play Cod 4 online, PC version and then i hit level 40. not so long after hitting level 40 i went on a different server, then when i got on the server, my experience bar was filled up to full and it said i was level 55 on the tab menu (scores) However it says i am level 40 when i press escape and i have got -65500 points to my next level. I do not have the level 40 guns + so I cant use them, and everyone else says Im level 55 when I ask them to read my name on the scores sheet. Do you think its just a UI bug and I will still level? okay so i had the “directx has encountered and unrecoverable error” but i updated my new video card driver and that went away. now it runs smooth, it lets me go to anything in the menu, but when a game is about 3/4 of the way loaded, it freezes and when i + it has an error window. it wont let me see the error window, it just says its there.
any ideas of how to fix this? or at least which error this may be?

simply replace the iw3sp file with the iw3sp file from the download and it will start the game without the need for a disk. This file is in “C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\”

For anyone running into this problem is probably because the account your playing on doesnt have the right permissions, you have to log onto the admin account and just set the permissions on the call of duty 4 container. Or just play cod4 on the admin account like normal people. Peace

installation and stuff went fine. when I wanted to start-up, he said he couldn’t find the d3dx9_34.dll. i’ve downloaded that file, and put it in the map. when I start-up now, the message is as following: “call of duty 4: Modernwarfare couldn’t write a file. the hard-drive is probably full.”
and i’m i’ve got on the hard-drive where i’ve installed it
90GB, and on the other 2 50 GB and 27 GB.

I have had CoD4 for a couple of months now and the multiplayer has been working fine until yesterday when i clicked refresh on server and no servers came up then and above the servers box said refresh time blah blah blah. Then I went to play on one of my favourites and I clicked on the server and it said “error your ping is to high” but ive been on the server plenty of times before and it said my ping was only 19. But when i get in the server i get about 3mins of game time then i get the connection interrupted thing and then i get another error “the server connection timed out”. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanx.

My CoD4 just restarts when I enter single player, as soon as I click the single player icon my PC just restarts, no error message, no nothing. One of the errors I get in my even log is;

My even log is also telling me I’m low on HDD space (have 20gb free) low on Virual Memory, set it to it’s maximum on both spaces (4092) and aparently I’m getting DirectX errors. See as follows;

Playing single player mode works good on my cpu but when i start up multiplayer even on safe mode, it lags and getting on to the main screen takes at least 10 mins and its so laggy that trying to just press join game takes at least 1 min. Solution B : From activision(do this only if Solution A doesnt fix it)
There are some issues running CoD 4 multiplayer on some onboard sound cards. If you have a RealTek(TM) onboard sound card and Windows(R) Vista you should try removing your sound card drivers and allow Windows Vista to install it’s default sound drivers. Please make note of the make and model of your sound card prior to removing it in order to aid in reinstallation at a later date.
To remove your sound card drivers do the following:
Open the control panel link from the start menu
Check the programs and features tool to see if your sound card drivers are listed here
If they are not open the system tool in the control panel
Click on the device manager task on the left
Locate your sound card in the list, it should be in the sound, video, and game controllers section
Right-click on the sound card name and select Uninstall.

This game is very hard on your power supply. My boyfriend had no computer trouble until the second day of playing COD4. After that, his game kept freezing and his computer restarting on its own. Then it began doing those things even when he was not playing the game. We did some research and he replaced the power supply. No more freezing, crashing or restarting. Now he has other problems with the game though LOL.

COD4 - Apparently the problem with inserting the correct DVD has been around for a while. I have done all the updates and tried the tips suggested to no avail. Obviously, Activision can care less about its paying customers enough to provide a viable fix for a problem that’s over a year old. I’m taking this piece o shit back and getting my money back.

Installed CODWAW successfully, first time playing came up with water droplet error. Fixed that game can start, but cannot start a mission in Solo mode, every time difficulty is picked it immediately returns to mission select screen.

If your running VISTA, try plugging a mic in your usb port, worked for me, and multiplayer works fine, on a server thats not PB enabled. Check your server details to see.
I get the “Insert correct DVD ROM press OK and try again” message. The killer is my game has ran just fine for about a year with no problem. I didnt change anythng. This is in single player mode only like the other posts. I tried running from the splash screen, I tried reinstalling the game, The CD is great condition, no scratches. Error running COD WAW. Just installed COD WAW and the 1.1 patch. game begins and runs up until I click on start mission and the a quick glimps of the blue screen of death and my system reboots. Try going into RUN on your computer and type msconfig. Go to the tab that says services. Click the box at the bottom that say hide all microsoft sevices. Then check off everything but punkbustr. Restart your computer and see what happens. It worked for me, and then you can start adding apps one at a time. Hope it helps.
With the multiplayer iw3mp.exe error, i work at a internet cafe, and and ive tried both solutions, but what i dont understand is all our pc’s are the same, have the same drivers, graphics cards, motherboards. ect. why is it that only the one pc has this error.
I was able to resolve the issue by updating the nvidia video driver for the GeForce6600GT Operating in SLI mode on windows XP.
we dont have Geforce cards, its ATI Asus 3850HD, and i have Windows Xp not Vista

Hi, I’v found a problem with call of duty 4, it seams theres a bug in the mss32.dll file that forces your PC to ether shut down or crash to your desk top. its the miles sound system company, rad tool inc, file 7.0.23.0. I think those that have this problem need to address this with activision.

hey, ive had Cod4 for about a year, it has run fine (with occasional random crashes, but what do you expect?) but in the last weekish, no matter how i start it up, it has an error and doesnt start. the error says “couldn’t create2dtexture” with some numbers and then “invalid call=some more numbers” if you need to know the exact error message then ill write it out. i have tried to fix it through reinstallation, patches, etc. the works. but nothing has worked so far. Please help, or else ill have to find something else to pass time with.

The mutiplayer exe crashes at start up, I have tried the solutions above in problem #6.
I have changed the drivers to Windows own drivers, and changed the asi file to a bak file. None of which helped.

I tried all the sug. that you see on this site…. After 3 days of reloading drivers,OS and all the other stuff I desided to pull all my cards out one at a time till just the MB was left.
Still no luck. Game crash at startup or a few min into it…..So I started lowering the Voltage on my CPU in the Bios…. When I got to 1.5v everything started working just fine. Put all my cards back in and still all is well….Cod4 and Warhammer run rock solid now. I was running XP on one Drive and Vist ult. on the other and the same thing happened on both OS…. Hope this works for you two.

Fix for the “create2DTexture( 3_cursor3, 64, 64, 0, 861165636) Failed: 8876086c= Invalid call” is to go into your Nvidia control panel.. You probably loaded the new one.. and change the Texture Clamp to OpenGL.. this will let the textures load… Once in your game, you may have to redo your graphics settings..
I have it setup to only do this for COD4..

i just got my 360 and COD4 on xmas. when i started playing shipment didnt work. i played everyother and they worked fine. but shipment get halfway and says please clean off disk and restart. the game is in perfect condition as well as 360. then all of a sudden wet work stopped working too. then single player.. it works all the way up till i get to mission 11 all gullied up. i beat this mission and it gets halfway and says clean off disk and restart.
so no one can help with the alfa blend error u cant disable the glow somebody help plezzzzzz
Jose, just read your gripe about it not working on the 360. I would just like to say that this site is designated for the PC version of the game coming up with errors. Not consoles. Tip for next time though, get a ps3, runs fine on that ;).
After getting DirectX error I installed DirectX 10. DirectX error no longer appears. Now, whenever I start COD4, the console comes up and I get this message:

I downloaded cod4 on UTorrent using winzip, now when i try to play multiplayer it says (This application or DLL C;\program Files\activision\Call of Duty 4- Modern Warfare\miles\mssdsp.flt is not a valid windows image. please check this against your installation diskette. But i don’t have the disk. Is there a way i can run it without the disk?

for the instalation problem iw_00.iwd…try finding those data cabs in another “Call of Duty” file…this might not work if u have a cd copy of game but it will probobly work if u have a digital copy. I found them in a Call of Duty file under the CallOfDuty4_dd_setup_1..

try a reboot if you want and start up the game PLAY ON !!!.

EDDIE sounds like your video card needs more power.Make sure your card has the extra power . Most cards need tobe connected to your PC power supply. The card should have a extra hook up for it on the card . I lost power becasue of that i didn’t have it hooked up .

Im playing CoD4 mp SnD. When killed, i usually TAB to windows and surf until the next round starts. Sometimes, when tab-ing back to CoD4, the game crashes and i get an direct-x error. Ingame solution is the same as windows, 1650 * 1050

I had a same problem as many other here: sometimes COD4 crashes with soundloop and no signal to screen, and then only way to shut pc is to push on/off button for a while. Well i contacted activision support, and after some infomation switchs, he eended up in this kind a conclusion: graphic card can be overheating. Well, I checked my temperatures during play and it was 70 - 90′C. I think he’s right. So, make sure u have good airflow and/or get an extra cooler for ur craphic card ;D
Mr. Finland. I ran into a new problem with COD4 but only after it started with other games first and started to get worse over time.
After working for almost 3 months to try and figure out what was the cause, it was amazing.
The RAM was overheating. I had Crucial Ballistics Tracers. I ordered the good stuff when I had my computer built. I also had some specialized software installed. What happened was the Crucial made two versions of their RAM. One was a cheap piece of crap the other which they displayed and actually is very good. When I took out my RAM and really looked at it, I saw that they were in reality mismatched and were not the same.
Long story short, I changed over to OCZ reapers and added a heat sink and fan for my RAM. It not only eliminated my problems but I saw an increase in performace of the game.
The problem originally was that my RAM sat just above the Video Card and slightly to the right. Thus the video card which runs normally betwee 90°F and 110°F was causing my RAM to over heat. I added a heat sink and dual fans for my Video card and put a heat sink and fan on my RAM. My case is now running very cool at 44°F and I am seeing no heat spikes.
I would suggest you look at your RAM as a possible cause of your problems. The other problem is normally a bad Direct X driver or a bad PhysX driver.

Yes you can do that. But it will not solve the problem in the end. If you RAM is overheating it will happen within minutes of yout PC running. The more graphic intense the game the hotter the graphics card gets. Most Ram Slots are located right next to the graphics card. Some of the off brands or cheaper boards have the RAM directly above the graphics card as it literally straight up. Thus when heat rises it effects the RAM. Most RAM has adhesive tape type of heat sink next to the module on the RAM Board. Thus on the really cheap stuff the tape actually bubbled up and separated and the heat sink is made null and void.
I would suggest a better solution is get you a directional fan which costs like $6. You can get OCZ Fatal1ty which bench the same as reapers at factory setting and only fall off not all that much with slight overclocking. The difference between OCZ reapers and OCZ FataL1ty is in the extreme end of overclocking and heat dispersion. Reapers have heat pipes to help remove excessive heat and can clock at extreme voltages without voiding warranty.
The cost of Reapers is about $130 for 4 gigs and FataL1ty is $45 for 4 gigs. All depending on where you get your RAM. Normally Tiger Direct has the cheapest prices and runs sales frequent enough to catch almost anything on sale for a good bargan. I picked up a CD, Blue Ray, CDRW for $22 delivered to my home. Just to give you an idea. I just bought my reapers for $129.99 with free delivery.
If you can afford it, I would suggest you get matched RAM and make sure they are completely matched. Not all RAM is the same. Although I had Crucial Balistics Tracers which were 1066s they were not matched. one was double sided 16 modules with copper heat sinks. The other was Single sided 8 modules with tape type of heat sink. They were not able to run at the same speed in dual channel and cause the computer to slow down. Heat just made that even worse to the point that the transfer rate dropped below bios specs and causes a BSOD which often happens when people play games.
Just make sure RAM is matched and does not exceed the bus of the motherboard. Otherwise you have problems that will plague you and you computer until its fixed.

Your problem is one of the easiest to fix. reinstall the COD4 patch. I would suggest that you read the installation instructions for the patch because this error is caused by either an installation error or the patch was corrupt.
You will need to redownload it. I would also suggest that you get the patch from the COD4 official site.

Steam is a gaming site which controls certain game releases. COD4 is one such game that was offered to the Steam community but is not a steam only release. The most famous steam games are the Half life 2 series games along with Portal and Team Fortress. Those games can not be played without connecting to steam through the net.
I am concerned that you may have a pirated copy of COD4. Because simply COD4 requires either a retail disk of the game or it has to be accessed through a gaming site like Steam or Runescape, battle.net or gamespot. There are dozens of these types of sites. I am not cettain all of the gaming communities I list have COD4. I am just pointing out that several of these gaming sites can have access to release it to the public throught their gaming site and engine.
The reason why I asked specifically about steam is that the steam engine has a problem which they are trying to fix with the source engine which causes crashes like the one you experienced. Thus I was going to tell you to contact steam to find a work around.
I own a retail version of Activision’s COD4. Thus I rarely have had any problems. Most of my problems have been already addressed with patches or it was a hardware issue or driver issue.

The problem is your using an Xbox! Consoles suck to high heaven and its nearly impossible to fix any problems on its own. Not only that consoles not matter type are old technology. They do have some stability in general over the full spectrum of PCs. But then PCs vary from vender to vender.
If a person builds a PC for the specific purpose to play high graphic games, then they generally have no problems as long as they keep up with the drivers and replace harward as needed if they ware out.
With that said, look at your disk to see if it is scratched or has a crack in it. Otherwise, you may be screwed and will have to send your console in for repairs or be forced to buy a new one.

You are having a two fold problem. This is normally seen with Linix servers. Also you COD folder in the server section is missing some folders and files. Mainly the usermaps.
I am not sure what type of server you are using and each one is different at to solution. Some require more work arounds than others. Some can be solved by reinstallation of COD 4 and imputing in the correct responses when setting up the multiplayer.
My suggestion is request help from Activision for COD 4 and give them your specs if reinstallation failed. The reason is that you will need them to tell you which files are missing to make it work.
When I got on my main profile, and press “Join Game” it will go back to my desktop, and make the sound of your cursor going over the bottoms repeatidly, but 1 quarter of the destop is black, than after about 20 seconds a message comes up saying: iw3mp.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the incconvenience.

Try Plugging in your mic. If it is plugged in, it may need a driver update or simply the hardware failure.
Generally this issue is with the Microphone interface somewhere. Meaning, Driver problem, hardware problem, or corrupted file.
Generally plugging in a microphone solves this. If its already plugged in, try unplugging wait 30 seconds to a minute and replug it back in. If that does not work, redownload the microphone driver. Update Direct X and audio driver. Reinstall game is last effort here.
Replace mirophone would be the absolutely last line of effort here.
But one of those should fix. generally plugging in microphone solves problem 95% of the time.

Can you give me the exact BSOD code when this problem happens. Is there looping sounds when the graphic display starts pixelating? Are you using PC or XBox.

The game crashes when I run on a profile I’ve been playing for about a year now. I choose the profile, then enter game and the game just stops. I can play from any other profile. I’m just a few challenges away from full gold weapons.

I’ve uninstalled Power ISO, Daemon tools, Magic ISO, changed the stupid SAMSUNG SATA drive to PIO, none of these lame fixes works to fix this stupid Insert DVD error. I loaded COD5 on my son’s laptop and after the beginning video completed playing then it would always crash when trying to load the first game so I tried copying my ‘Zone’ folder there but then the game wouldn’t even load. So, I put back the original ‘Zone’ folder there.
Then I copied my ‘Players’ folder there and after that IT WORKED JUST FINE!

On that mission, when you are saving the Pilot from that crashed helicopter. It crashes.
Right after I saved her, the game crashed. And when I start up the game again and click on “Resume Game”. It starts to load, and show that movie. Then in the second loading screen, it freezes and I get an error that I can’t even read. All I see is like “Call of Duty 4 Console” at the bottom of my screen and the rest is all black. I uninstalled the game to reverse several patches. i deleted all additional files including all downloaded patches and punkbuster updates. I reinstalled from scratch but when the menu came up (with ‘play single player’, ‘play multi player’ options) instead of being an ‘install’ option, it said ‘uninstall’ suggesting it hadnt been uninstalled. i pressed this anyhow yet the box closed and the program appeared to stop running completely. i managed to install the game via the disc file and clicking on ’setup.exe’ and ran it like this. it installed fine yet when finished, when i clicked on the singleplayer game shortcut, it started to run with the cod box appearing on the desktop screen, then it wouldnt go any further. furthermore, the multiplayer option starts up as if the singleplayer mode and goes straight to multiplayer menu and plays absolutely fine from then on. but wont switch to single player at all. No error boxes appear throughout this process. Help?

I hate to say it but you will need to completely uninstall everything. Wipe it clean.
Then put your retail copy in the drive and do a typical install.
You should not have any problems as far as single and multi at all.
Most problems are from Steam which the source engine give problems or 3rd party patching where they add spam or adverising adware or other things which just screw up the patch, your computer and the game.
Get all patches from Activision. You will need to sign up for your own Myactivition account.
from there you can download the true patches and you will not have to worry about all the crap that the 3rd parties cause your game.
Basically no problems.

There are many reasons for delay that your having. sometimes it just takes time to track the specific reason down.
First, new does not always mean new when it comes to a computer you have purchased. My brother bought a new computer but its componets were 5 years old and it was basically out of date the day he bought it.
There are the standard problem with new computers which is the guy who set it up the first time caused a port or hardware conflict that crops up when you engage intensive programs and most games.
However, you need to post specs.
What kind of computer, how much ram, kind of GPU and how much Vram you have.
Delays that you have happen to everyone at one time or another. I get them randomly with differing games. Normally the cause is a background program or windows doing stuff from a ping from the MS geeks.
I would make sure nothing is running in the background. You need to verify that there is nothing. Just because you do not see it on the desk top does not mean there is not something running.
Do you know if the DMA setting were done properly?
Do you have proper Ram? No mismatching! Does the Ram match the Bus speed? Some people buy ram without thought of the bus speed. This causes a bottle neck problem and can cause delays and in some cases game crashing or BSODs which drive them insane. Or simply you may have a bad stick of Ram. That happens way to often with cheap brands especially those made in Indonesia or malaysia.
I also just had a custom computer built less than 10 days ago. Its an Intel 3.0Mhz 775 chip on a ASUS P5NT- Deluxe. It has OCZ 1066Mhz DDR2 Reapers of 8 gigs. Bus is rated from 800 to 2000mhz so no problem with running 1066mhz.
GPU is NVidia GTX 285 OC2 zoomer with 1 gig GDDR3 (Basically its almost the same as the GTX 295. the difference is less than 20 frames per second and less than 1000 pixels of resolution.
Basically the rest of the system is unimportant. Since DVD/CD Read write drives are pretty much standard as long as you get one that is less than 3 years old and require no drivers or other stuff.
How much cooling does your GPU get. This one can cause delays and slow downs.
Lastly, did you install the lastest patch from activision?
You may get a weird first time screwy thing where you click on single player and it takes to to multiplayer. This happens because the Multiplayer is in default mode. Just click on the single player choice in the secondary screen and wait 30 to 40 seconds upwards of 1 minute for the very first time as the game configures for the first time. After that, the you will not see that again and it will start right up.
But be aware that games do not always start up right away. Sometimes they just take time to load up. Only time will tell what your standard load time is for COD 4. Mine is roughly 5 to 15 seconds with a Random longer load time that happens because that is what happens with Windows.
Vista also causes all sorts of conflicts and problems because its a bad buggy program that should never have been released. To be honest, Microsoft should refund what people spent for Vista because its really that bad when it comes to using graphic intense media.

I hate to the the bearer of bad news. Sounds to me that your computer has a virus or more than one virus plus spy and adware add ons to the point its causing problems. Generally that is what causes the problem you are having.
How to find out how bad of shape your in.
Click on Start Menu then click Run.
In the Run box, type ” eventvwr.msc ” then hit enter on the keyboard.
Look at the error window and see how many Red Xed items you have and what kind of conflicts you have. You may see Red ? or Red ! as well. The ? and ! ones are Spy and adware problems or a hardware port conflict.
Correct what you find. See if it fixes the problem. If unsure, contact your local OEM support person about error codes. They should tell you without charge as that is the industry standard.
IF you done all that and still not fixed, Then:
You may have corrupt Direct X and may need to reinstall Direct X.
If you are running XP you will want the latest 9.0c version.
If you have Vista then you will want 10 with specifically Direct Play 5.0A Do Not UPGRADE TO Directplay 5.0B or 5.012 it has some major problems which is magnified by crappy Vista bugs.
Lastly, with older version of COD like COD 2 and 3 this problem was caused by unsupported or very old graphics cards. In this case, bite the bullet and either get a newer computer or buy a better Graphics card if you have an older computer meaning purchased like 2005 or eariler.
If you do buy a newer computer or new GPU get NVidia 200 series and by pass the now cheap 8800GTX which is now old technology. You will want GTX 260 or better. Reason the GTX 260 is 3 times faster than ATI HD 4970×2 which is their best card which was designed to compete with the Nvidia’s Geforce 8800GTX. Other companies has not made any upgrades in several years and spend their effort in selling cheap cards in Eastern Europe and the far east. Reason why there is in reality only two graphics card companies is that when NVidia made the 8000 series a med range card when it was released. Nvidia pushed for technological advantage over price warring. The end result was that only ATI had the money to compete and could do R&D one for one until 2 years ago. When NVidia released the high end cards of the 200 Series and the ultra high end Quadra 5800 FX which is for super high end graphics like CAD, Animation but in all honesty not that much better in FPS or in gaming than the new 300 Series do out this December. However resolution is out of this world. But at $6500 a card few home users bother with it.
The GTX 260 is roughly $160 at Tiger Direct.

you are seeing a one time glitch in the installation.
To bypass this simply click on play singleplayer. You may get sent to the Multiplayer area as this is a glitch in the installation.
simple click on single player in the secondary screen. Notice that the position of Multiplayer and single player change. So do not assume that its in the same location in the second screen.
After you get into single player, it will play fine for both multiplayer and single player.

Cod4 has really been getting on my nerves lately because of that f*cking “please insert the correct dvd rom” thing. ive tried reinstalling it, reformatting my xps, sending emails to activision, buying a new copy and even downloaded a crack

Yours is a typical driver or hardware conflict. Update your drivers and also double check DX for the latest. XP 9.0c vista you want 10.0a
I had this for a while with an older computer. Sometimes you need to contact the sound card manufacture or Video card manufacture. Thus if you have better have NVidia or ATI. If you do not, then get NVidia as it is the superior card manufacture hands down.
But go through your system slowly and make sure you have all the drivers updated. If that does not work, then reinstall the game. If that fails, write back with details of what kind of system you have.

Are you running in Vista? If yes, then I am sorry for you.
This problem is a vista conflict issue and there is no fix with your current graphics card. No work arounds that I am aware of either. Just chalk it up to buggy vista!
I run any game under the sun flawlessly with XP and with very high quality or equal quality with Vista 10.
I refused to allow Microsoft to reduce my resolution and rolled back their tickering.
Now with Vista, There are games that I can not even play. These are the same games that run on the same exact machine but on differnt hard drive. So I can choose to run in vista or run in XP. With all crap and ungly buggs and problems with Vista, I rarely now try to run any game in Vista anymore.
I simply install it in XP and play flawlessly. Does not matter the game. Mass Effect, COD 2-5, Crysis, Warhead, Far Cry 2, Sin of Solar Empire, Half Life 2, EP1, Ep2, Medieval II Toal Warfare II, MW TW II Kingdoms, Sword of the Stars, Star Craft II Beta, Empire Total War, Star Wars Old Republic, As well as the World of Warcraft, as well as older games such as Halo, Star Craft battle Chest version, Galactic Civilizations and its Secondary GC II Dreadlords, Civilizations IV with its expansion packs.
The point is that you may want to buy a new Hard Drive, Install XP for $120 and never worry about all these problems especially if you get NVidia’s GFX 260 or better version.
I am running a Asus P5N-T Deluxe with quad core 3.0 Intel chip Q9650. NVidia GTX 285OC x2 which runs close to a standard GTX 295 difference is 15 max frames thus for 99.99% of games you can not tell the differnce and the price is $280 cheaper. OCZ 1066 Reapers with heat piping. The rest of the system is current tech and not worth comparing.
The point is that no game out there that works as it was written I can not play on my System other than a couple of games that were written specifically for Vista but suck anyway like Halo II and their brief beta test 3 for PC.

please read through the posting. You will find three posts which should help. Normally it a driver or conflict. I had this problem for about 6 months. It was finally solved with a video Driver patch that had come out that I did not know about and I had been working with Activision at the time because there was no other reason why I should be having that problem. But in truth it was a drive issue.
Sometimes we just have to admit that we need to get a newer computer or newer hardware. Which is what I did after that experience because of a few newer games coming out at that time.

I bought an older copy pf the game and had the iw3mp.exe problem(stopped working)due to realtek driver issues,I used a program called driver doctor to download updated drivers for realtek,still didnt work so I plugged a pair of headphones into the jack at the back and presto multiplayer access!! awsome gane!! hope this helps.
