Problem #1 : Error message “Error 2350.FDI server error” while trying to install Unreal Tournament 3.
Solution : No known workaround. If you are experiencing this error or know any solutions for this, post it in the comment box below this page
Problem #2 : Unreal Tournement 3 models are the same for all players after playing the first map.
Solution A : Reconnect to the game everytime the map changes and you experience this problem.
Solution B : Make sure that the ‘Allow custom characters’ option is checked in the options. This is because there are times that the config dont get saved or some of the items in the options menu gets randomly checked. Make sure that the UT3 config is changed after ticking the “allow custom characters” option by checking the options menu again after closing.
Problem #3 : Unreal Tournament 3 flickers after playing for some time / UT3 Flickering screen
Solution A : Make sure that you are using the latest drivers.
Solution B : Turn down / Turn-ff Anisotropic Filtering in UT3′s menu

Problem #4 : Unreal Tournament 3 Freezes in the middle of the game but not permanently.
Solution A : Turn off OpenAL in Unreal Tournament 3′s option
Solution B : as posted by Vogel
1) Exit the game and open the Windows Explorer.
2) Open the “My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3 Demo\UTGame\Config” folder.
3) Open the UTEngine.ini file from that folder in a text editor (for example, notepad).
4) Find the [Engine.ISVHacks] section.
5) Under [Engine.ISVHacks] heading, find the line that says UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=False.
6) Change that line to UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=True, and save the file.
Solution C : This seems to happen in certain maps only, and is different for each user. Just avoid playing in maps where you experience this until Epicgames releases a patch or fix for this.
Problem #5 : No servers Show up in the Unreal Tournament 3 Lobby
Solution A : Make sure that port 7777 is open
Solution B : Enable DMZ
Problem #6 : Unreal Tournament 3 login screen keeps on freezing, sometimes permanently
Solution A : No known workaround. If you are experiencing this error or know any solutions for this, post it in the comment box below this page.
Problem #7 : Ut3.exe does not work
Solution A : Try running Unreal tournament 3 in the Autorun/Autoplay menu
Problem #8 Unreal Tournament 3 Configs dont get saved / UT3 settings and cd-key not saved / cd-key problem
Solution A : Make sure that the MY DOCUMENTS or and UT3 folder is not set as read-only (as posted by VoodooMaster)
Solution B : It seems that you have to create a profile in order to save player settings and campaign progress. Just leaving the user name and password fields empty and choosing “Play offline” doesn’t work. (as posted by Reaping-ant)
Solution C : The problem is not only the path to the “My Documents” folder but how windows reads the folder. Creating a fake one means windows doesnt see it as “My Documents”, and simply a folder caled “My Documents”. For those who have moved their “My Documents” folder, point it back at the fake folder you created, and the install will then make the files in the appropriate location. HOWEVER:
If you move the My Documents folder back to where it was before the whole thing goes kaput. (As postd by EG|DJANGO)
Solution D : if you have the “my games/unreal tournament 3 demo” in “my documents” i made a copy and named it “unreal tournament 3″, put it in the same location (my games\..) and then started the game. clicked yes to remake the ini’s, entered my info and it seemed to have saved it. (As posted by Beckizzle)
Solution E : Adding “-nohomedir” to the VERY end of my desktop icon seems to have fixed my CD-Key and Settings not being saved issue. So here is what I did: (as posted by Clark Kent)
“C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe” -nohomedir
Problem #9 : NO cutscene audio In Unreal Tournament 3.
Solution A : reinstall your audio codecs (as posted by Shinjion)
Problem #10 : Ut3 shadows are flickering

Problem #11: Cannot Play Unreal Tournament 3 Campaign
Solution A : (as posted by Gorge) Open the UTEngine.ini (My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config) and change PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=False to PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True
Problem #12 : UT3.exe has encountered an error (As posted by Gibson)
Solution A : (as posted by Gotasportscoupe)
1. Turn OFF Hardware OpenAL in game
2. Go here, download, and install: fix
Problem #13 : 1628: Failed to complete installation
Soltution A : (as posted by Hickeroar) do a registry search for Unreal Tournament 3 and delete all the keys in there that is related to UT3. Look for reference in the registry to an application data folder for UT3 under my user folder in my documents and delete them.
Solution B : (as posted by Shinjion) For anyone still having this problem, simply perform a System Restore to a date prior to installing UT3 and try again. That can easily be done by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.
Problem #14 : Error 1335 – Failed Installation
Solution A : (as posted by Shinjion) copy all the files in the DVD to your drive and install from there. IF the files cant be copied because of errors (CRC error and the like), have your DVD replaced
Solution B : if the error still persists after copying all the installation files to your hard drive, download this WindowsInstaller-KB893803-x86
Problem #15 : Unreal Tournament 3 offline Profile wont get saved / keymaps not saved

Game freezes anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes into a match. No CTRL-ALT-DEL option. Must completely reset machine.
I’m getting freezes after a minute or two playing. These are permanent and can sometimes be ALT-Tabbed out of, sometimes a reboot is necessary.
Lots of people on UT3 forum are mentioning the same issue.
Grrrr – this game is as buggy as hell!
I think I’m experiencing the shadows flickering bug, but I’m not sure that’s the case. I have some flickering on some textures, but the brighter the light around is, the more apparent the flickiring is. In shadowed or dark areas, I get no flickering at all.

kernal32 dll error at startup, tossed back to desktop.Can’t get into the game at all.
Tried the openal fix, turning sound off in the ini, turning fullscreen off in ini, and turning off atifilters in ini as well.
Hi, I have just installed the game and run the game and there is a problem with my graphics on my game it appears to be all fussy and distoreted and was wondering if anyone knew what the problem was do i have to change the settings or anything ? can someone please help

Cannot play anything other than campaigne, so no instant action or online games load. When trying to connect to a server the loading sound works but it remains on the same window..nothing loads at all. For instant action the screen goes from the begin game / return page back to the page before this.
Any ideas?

hello guys,i cannot change my res from default800x640,every time i try the screen goes black for about 20 sec’s then a screen appears for about 2 secs prompting me to save settings,if im fast enough i can press save but it still goes back to default.any help would be appriciated thx.
Interestingly enough, my AMD Turion 64 system is just shutting off. Completely. I’m not sure if its an overheating issue, or what I would even do to fix that!

I have 2 Problems with my (german) version of Unreal Tournament 3. The first Problem is, that sometimes (in most cases when I want to join an online game) my game freezes after loading and I have to restart my PC or to end the game (but if I end my game I cant start Unreal again becaus then I get an error after skipping the first movies).
My second problem is that when I play ~half an hour suddenly my PC restarts without any warning. This problem I just saw on the map Demian.
i can not crate a profile because it come up with an error thats says (The online services is currently unavalible. please wait and try reconnecting again) plz can you help me ?

I cannot play the campaign because any time the movie sequence start to play, it skips/freeze, person saying same word/sound over and over again until I alt tab delete.

I can play multiplayer deathmatch for one match, but when the match finishes, 95% of the time i get kicked out of the next match before or right after i hit the READY button. It says lost connection to server, and I have to logon to Epic’s login screen again before I can play once more.

i Cant Play all maps online only small maps , i load online maps and 90% of them crash to desktop and now i get NV4_Disp Has Stope Working Error and crash to desktop or when i open the game some times i get this error it works some times but not all the time , when i host the game all maps work good with Open AL Check off ,

I found a work around for the freezing issue. I do not know how many this may work for, but I have the X-Fi Sound Blaster as many have stated they have. I also have the eVGA 680i motherboard. I wanted to see what would happen if I enabled the HD Audio in BIOS & installed the drivers for the onboard audio. I then played the game in online Campaigne mode. I played 7 missions before quiting to come write my findings. Before I did the switch with the audio I was not able to get through the first mission. So I think it is obvious for me at least the Creative X-FI drivers fwere the issue. If anyone has the option to change over and at least try this. I would suggest it. The only think I encountered was some lagging in the loading. I think that is due to me being on 1GB of RAM right now though. My other stick fried. Once I get my new 2GB kit I should run like clockwork. If anyone wants further instruction, just send a private message through the forums. user ID is “VIOLATER”. Good Luck.
same problem with ut3.exe not booting, get a blackscreen for about half a minute and then it dumps me back to desktop.

sounds like Epic needs to give us a patch :/
Apparently, UT3 doesn’t like dual screen setups. When using Ultramon, the game sooner or later goes into a bluescreen of death.
There is a bit of an annoying workaround, which is to physically disconnect the monitor you’re not playing UT on. Disabling the second monitor doesn’t work either and leads to the familiar BSOD.
Although, I’m looking for a less annoying workaround, one that doesn’t require me to crawl underneath the table every time I want to kill a couple bots.
Something to try.
uninstall your video card drivers. X-Fi/soundblaster etc.
reboot
re-install drivers.
This fixed the freezing on login and now I can play the game for the first time.

A genuine fix for issue #9: No Cutscene Audio.
Head into Xfire -> Tools -> Options -> Games -> UT3.
Disable Xfire In-Game.
It’s a problem with Xfire.

EXACTLY the same problem as Leo Natan (post # 3 above, November 23, 2007 @ 7:17 pm) has.
Many thanx to Leo for uploading the video demonstrating the problem. It helped me, and will help the others, to make sure that the problem is the same, and many people encounter it.
I encounter it using EVGA 8800GTX and C2D E6700 @ 3.4 GHz
umm… during the cutscene videos the game freezes and i have to restart using Ctrl+Alt+Delete
Umm.. if i skip it it works normally but otherwise it doesnt… is there a way to make the cutscenes work again?
What comment #27 says in not true in my case, I also have a dual view setup 2×19″. After what I did as stated in #25 I work great. Played over 3 hours with no freezing or hangs.

No cutscenes! I had the ‘cdkey repeat every start’(problem #8) issue and fixed it with with solution E (my documents folder is on a different drive – D). And now I am glad I did. Because after the fix and playing the game again from the beginning I see cutscenes between chapters. The thing is, I played it on Vista before (currently “downgraded” to XP – BTW, no visible difference) with no cdkey issue but UNKNOWINGLY without the cutscenes! Lot’s of people don’t even know about this issue! And maybe it’s the Vista to XP switch.
Now I “only” have the permanent freezing problem after couple of minutes of playing. This game is soooo buggy. BTW, the freezing occured in Vista too. Tried latest 3 Nvidia drivers (163.75 – 169.09 in both Vista and XP), updated Creative Labs X-Fi drivers, chipset drivers, tried disabling openAL, even tried the UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization fix. Nothing worked. BTW I never tried go down from highest video settings.
Otherwise luv this game, plays smooth like butter.

If the fix for problem #9 doesn’t work, xfire users should turn off xfire since it interferes with Bink video sound.
I got the same Ut3.exe problem as #17 and #14.
The same issue as #6 with only being able to play the campaign. Multiplayer goes thunk and stays on the server list. Instant action since the patch goes to a new screen witht he label ‘Title’ and some latin gibberish which locks the game up. The music continues to play, but the game has to be killed to get off that screen.
when i start unreal tournament it loads through the beginning cut scenes and when the enter key code screen pops up,it freezes and either restarts the game or completely shuts off my PC.
35 up there has the same problem as me; the permanent freezing during a match. I’ve got an ATI card, though, so that driver fix thing does nothing (I even tried using the ATI line above the Nvidia one – did nothing).
I don’t know about him/her, but it ONLY happens to me during the campaign. I can play instant action or multiplayer just fine.
I mean the driver line fix in the UTEngine.ini file.
Problem loading the game.
My pervious graphics cards was not up to the job, I bought a Nvidia 7600GS (256MB – the game loading screen starts ok.
My screen then goes into ‘sleep mode’ (before getting to the login page – I can not wake the screen up.
Alt tab / ctrl-Alt-Delte / Alt F4 etc – dont work.
I end up rebooting the PC.
Any help would be very welcome – this is my sons PC – he is very upset.
When I try to start the game up, a splash art will load up on the desktop for 5 to 10 seconds before closing and nothing happens. The game will not start up.
Specs and drivers are all good.

While this is to do with the demo, I have seen it noted elsewhere and no doubt clouds many peoples first impressions of the game: sometimes UT3 incorrectly reads every username you try as being non-alphanumeric or containing spaces. This is incredibly irritating, and frankly bewildering. The issue of having to alt-tab to notepad and copypaste in an @ on any non-US keyboard for the email to prevent console opening is also a fairly poor oversight.

#43, your problem is with your DVD drive reading weirdly. When I bought my pc a couple years back, it had a crapshoot stock DVD drive in it, and it kept telling me that game and music CD’s were copies and thus I couldn’t boot the game. Sometimes it never said anything and the game just wouldn’t load. Only real fix I’ve found is to get a better drive.
I also get game freezes in the middle of the match which last between 5-10 seconds, but then resumes as normal. I’ve tried almost everything with no success.
Permanent Freezing during gameplay FIXED. After A LOT of trial and error, this is my result. Everything else on max or enabled EXCEPT Hardware openAL(disabled) and Texture Detail only 2. I have been playing without any hiccups since.
Hope it helps, good luck. If that doesn’t work for you, try what I did. Lower EVERYTHING to minimum and disable everythig. Than work your way up.
I have also disabled my SB X-Fi card and playing on mobo sound, but I am going to enable it again because that doesn’t seems to be the problem.

As #49 says is a good way to troubleshoot it. But I am willing to gamble it will return after he renables the X-Fi. Simply using the onboard Realtek audio cleared my issues right up. I have everything jacked up even post processing is on intense. Only thing not on is OpenAL. I am running like a champ. Actually putting the post processing on intense from vivid, game seems to run even better.

OK, it’s official. After a lot more playing I am still running. I enabled my SB X-fi again. Froze the first time, but after disabling mobo audio in bios, everything went back to normal – no freezing. Now I play surround 5.1 (keep looking over my shoulder, aaaand yep, still nobody there
And yes I am on intense too. Resolution 1680×1050. Vertical sync enabled too. Never go under 60

The permanent freeze is due to either two things that I’ve read about, really: 1) Your MB/installed soundcard acting up with UT3 (see replies 50 and 53) OR You have an ATI card of x1400 or better (since anything weaker won’t really run UT3).
The Sound problem is fix’d, but the ATI card thing is something either AMD (who owns ATI) or Epic has to address on their end with a patch or new drivers… or something.
The game won’t save my campaign progress, my “My Documents” folder and “Unreal Tournament 3″ is NOT read-only, the Customchar.ini havn’t been edited since I installed…
This suck as I’d like to play it again.
Everytime I exit the game and play I’ll have to start all over, I.E. just New campaign and Join campaign.
ok so installed unreal 3 no problem, but what happens is when i run the .exe it loads like normal but then the monitor goes into power down mode and i have to reset the computer. i get no message or anything. i never make it to anything at all. it just powers down…. and i have to reset the damn comp everytime. these are my specs

I’ve got a strange graphic problem. When I launch the game, the menu doesn’t seems to be ok, the background is all grey. Then, if I start a match, the game begins normaly but, althought I can see my surroundings a bit, there’re a lot of white, grey and black squares that cover almost everything far from me.
I’m using a laptop,I’ll post my specifics

Should it run or maybe it’s just a problem of my specifics?
From what I’ve experienced thus far, I have a few issues. The first thing I noticed is that the words in the game don’t fully appear. They are either half blacked out or just never fully materialize. What I mean by materialize is that a part of a word looks like it is supposed to be forming on the screen but is skewed and the words past that are not there. The second issue is the fact that the game “craps out” and either resets my computer or it goes to a white screen and I have to reset the computer anyway. The third issue is that I have to put the CD key in just about every time I start the game. The fourth issue is that when I try to create a profile it tells me to use an alphanumeric character to start the username with no spaces. Of course I tried multiple times following their rules with the same message occuring. I think that’s just about it for now but I fully expect to encounter more errors as I attempt to play some more. I hope they fix this game. I love UT and want this to be an awesome game. I know it has potential. Thank you for listening to these problems and hope they help others.
I have a fix for my problem. #57 for those without internet connection or those who can’t save their campaign progress.
1. Copy the player.ue3profile [I think that's the name] and rename it anything [e.g. pepsi.ue3profile]
2. Start up the game, and type the nickname [I used pepsi] and ANY password.
3. That should do the trick. I have been able to reload chapters and what not.
I have a similar problem to #58. When I try to launch any match, be it instant action, campaign or multiplayer, UT3 will do one of two things. It will either
A) cause my monitor to go into standby mode, forcing me to reboot
or B) cause my computer to crash, which will then reboot itself.
Hurry and fix this, Epic! I wanna give UT3 a go!
I’ve doing some research about my problem (#59)and it seems that it happens to many laptops.It’s a matter of drivers, but many of us can’t install catalyst 7.11, we’ve to wait until the pc manufacturer(Toshiba for me) releases a new driver compatible to quit that strange snow.So, if any of you got a x1400/x1450 in your laptop. You’ll probably have the same problem.

For problem 9: I’ve tryed shutting down Xfire while playing the campaign. This helps when you get no sound with the cutscenes. Maybe this can be mentioned as a solution
Hiya all, i’ve got this simple but annoying problem and i don’t know if it fits any of these solutions.
I can’t even start playing a campaign, as soon as a few secs of the movie has been played, my pc hooks up and the sound does aswell. Sometimes i can ctrl+alt+del but not always…
What should i do? Or what fix up there will correct that issue?

Its me again, this time I cant even start UT3 anymore. Every time my PC will just reset and start new, but wihtout recognizing my soundcard. Gotta shut down and start up manually a few times after that. I’ve got XP.

In normal winxp mode I only see first language select screen then all thing vanish without any error!?
Tryed also in safe mode winxp but then I got error #1628 and I even try both solution (A and B) – nothing works.
Epic must learn to make good Install procedur.

If you have a dual-core processor and freezing issues, DISABLE one of your processors while playing the game. It will FIX the freezing issues.
The problem has something to do with dual core processors, although I don’t know enough about it to say why.
this is BlazingGuns again, I have found a “solution” for my problems(#66/#67). I don’t know if this is any help to somebody else, but everytime I want to start UT3, I get a black screen, my system is rebooting. After that the PC doesnt realize that there is a soundcard, so I dont have any sound played. But well, UT3 without sounds is better than nothing. UT also runs completly stable after that happened.
If u wanna quit and do something else, just manually shut down(IMPORTANT! NOT RESET) and wait like 5 sec, then start again. Now the sound problem should be okay, if not, do that procedure over and over again ’till it is.
But with active and recognized soundcard, UT3 will be instable again, and gonna reboot.
update for #53
I froze … again, and again. But now after about 2 hours the first time and than after rebooting within 5 minutes. So I guessed, graphic card overheating or something like that. What I did afterwards was I UNDERclocked my factory overclocked Graphic Card from 621MHz to 310MHz Core clock. And from 1000MHz to 500MHz Memory clock (the lowest I could go with Riva Tuner). Now I play UT3 on highest settings everything (except openAL) and with no freezes (so far). I played for hours so this time I think I found the glitch. Framerate doesn’t suffer as far as I can tell. I haven’t compared it with FRAPS but it still doesn’t seems to go under 60FPS.
Conclusion: UT3 is sensitive to overclocked cards.

Hey, BlazingGuns. I think you are trying to solve your problem with a hammer. UT3 without a sound? That’s just NOT right.
Now you know your problem is caused by your sound card, so try tweaking it. If you have a mobo sound, try that one instead of your sound card. Or disable all higher audio settings (especially openAL) set everything on minimum, than try running the game. I saw couple of tweaks regarding sound here in this forum, or try http://utforums.epicgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

ok the problem I have is a black screen after all the beginning ads and crap. the screen goes black and then the pc restarts. when I say black I mean shuts off. it shows the “no signal” thing on the monitor. my pc is AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 1024MB DDR2 geforce 7300GT. any fixes or suggestions?
I ecperience some problems to many of them solved with your solutions (no campain progress save, freezing in cutseens etc).But in some cases I get knocked out of the game with flickering screen.I reduced the detail in grafics and the problem still occurs but less.The bummer is that I played it with no frame drop in maximum detail…I can’t explain.

figured out something crazy for the problem on mine… if anyone could tell me why that would be appreciated but here’s what it was. I had to go into the My Documents\My Games\UT3\UTGame\Config\UTEngine.ini and scroll way towards the bottom until it says Startupmovies=Intro or something like that and delete that. Apparently I couldn’t run the intro video. weird…

I have over the minimun requirments but the game thinks overwise, and either when i load the game or go to a cut scene it just crashes and not even alt tabbing or controle alt delete can close it so i have to restart my computer.

Well i just got ut3 and i go and put the disk in and it comes up with starting install shield wizard and gets half way done and freezes up.
after a while it came up with software install and does that and says finished play unreal then comes up with error must close page sorry for the inconvienience send error report i send it and the game automatically uninstalls.?
Hey guys, i’m experienceing problem number 3. The entire game screen goes completely ballistic after about 30 min of game time. This happens in campaign mode and online. But I just downloaded the latest drivers for my EVGA 8600gt. Not to mention i’m running at 4 gigs of RAM @ a 3.0 gig dual core. Crap like this shouldn’t be happening…. In response to post #89. I noticed you are using on-board video. I have a feeling that is your issue. I do not think the integrated video can handle the games like UT3, GoW, Crysis and so on. Here are the minimum & recommended requirements for the game. Not sure how your 945G chipset compares to the cards listed.

#87, Try not using the Sound Blaster. Either disable sound in game or through your sounds options in “Control Panel”. UT3 seems to not like Creative products. That was my issue.
#80, did you install the multicore fix for the AMD processors? That has been one issue.
Things to make sure of before running game:
If running AMD install the multicore hotfix.
Make sure you are usingthe latest drivers.
Install patch 1.1
Nvidia card users. Use drivers at least 169.09. 169.21 exists & work also.
End all un-needed processes, if possible. Don’t know how or are unsure what to terminate, ask.
Things to do after install & have issues:
If using a Creative Sound Card disable & use on-board if possible. If no on-board just disable Sound Card & see if game runs smooth.
Adjust game detail, start at bottom & if stable work up till you find a good balance between stability & game quality.
There are also a number of .ini tweaks to try also. Can be found on the Epic Games forums.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
i’m expreiencing a problem in which i’m trying to install the game, i choose the language, it loads the install wizard it tells me “configure windows installer” and then the installation ends with no progress – help me out!

For those people having install issues:
When I went to install the game, I also received an error. I was able to bypass the problem by going into “My Computer” right clicking on the DVD drive that the UT3 Disk is in & select explore. I then just simply double clicked the install icon. I bypassed the autorun completely & it installed great. Hope that helps.

Hello, I was looking for sites that can help with UT3 issues. I have an issue with my copy that relates to graphics, crashing, and such. My graphics are messed up, which can be related to my video card, and even if i tamper with the textures and such, nothing. Also, the sentences are all cut off. So, basically, when i see the “for help, go to http://www.blahjblah “, it says go to ww and cut off…. My other issue, is that my game tends to crash Windows and restart my computer. Same problem as #1, game freezes completely, forcing a reboot of Windows. I have a Athlon XP 2800+, 1 GB of DDR400 Corsair RAM, and an nVidia 7800GS. Not the fastest machine, but it plays fine until it freezes, so videocard performance per se is not the issue.
Only certain maps are playable. Everytime i try to play on a few specific maps, the screen just goes black and i have to restart my Computer to get out of it. Ive reinstalled the game and tried it on the lowest possible settings, still no change

Same problem as #102. I’ve tried to install the game on 3 computers in my house for my kids. The LITE-ON DVD drive and a SONY drive refuse to read the DVD. Only my older SONY secondary drive will read the disk which means that I can only install on 1 computer.
Well, i updated my video card drivers, i reinstalled the game, and surprisingly, it doesn’t crash, the sentences are complete, the map and guns are fine, and i move somewhat faster. The textures are still a bit blurry, but i can still manage to kill people and navigate my way around, though its a bit slow. Either way, one step closer to fixing this.

I have a variant of the Problem#9 on Intel dual Core CPU with Nvidia 7600GT graphic card. On UT3 startup I get a Black screen, which will turn to a single blinking underscore in the top left of my screen after about 1 minute if I hit the space bar a few times.
Ctrl-Alt-Del does not respond. It needs the power button.
I have removed Xfire and Anti-virus software (Trend) – no help

I using a Asus MB with a single dual core CPU – how exactly should I disable one processor? Both processors are running on program startup before it all goes blank.

Fix for “Problem #1 : Error message “Error 2350.FDI server error”
I found this fix for a CRC error a couple of years ago and it has worked for many installation errors on several games since. I tried it for Unreal 3 and it works! I don’t know why, it just does.
Right click my computor. Open properties. Click hardware.
Click device manager.
Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controller.
Right click primary IDE channel
click properties
click advanced settings
change transfer mode from DMA to POI only in both boxes.
Repeat this for all primary and secondary controllers.
Now install the game. It takes about 90 minutes to load but its worth it.
After the game has loaded change the settings back to how they were. Restart the computor and off you go!

I have UT3 installed on my machine with a much lower than min requirement video card but dont have any of the issues many of yall are having, but I do have the CD Key not saving issue. My document folder was set on read only so i unchecked that. I have yet to see if it has worked or not. I have a 8600GT overclocked VGcard in the mail. I hope that will make my graphics much better than what they are.

I intalled ut 3 and when I get into the game(right after the intro)(ex: unreal technology, intel and shit like that) Right after the intros my computer resets and a little blue box comes up and says some stuff and it says out of sync… then it re-starts my computer. #127 Try lowering your settings since your card is just above the min requirements. Goto video setting and click advance and put everything on 1 and up them if possible. If your monitor is 19 or larger you put your size at 1024×768 and put your monitor at 85 hertz..Maybe that will help since thats what my machine is set at. Still havnt fixed the CD Key saving issue though.

When I play unreal tourn. 3, I usually play campaign, then when I reboot my Computer, I can’t continue my campaign…
Game freezes but ONLY during cutscenes. Nothing works after that – except for a machine reboot. If i’m able to skip the cutscenes by (pressing escape over and over)then I am able to play the game with no problems at all. And dunno why but everytime I run the game I have to start right from the beginning. Isn’t there a way to save the completed campaigns and continue with new ones. Weird.

Well, I can’t load the map Arsenal… as far as I know, that’s the only problem I have. I’ve loaded it once out of about 15 times… all of the others have been game crashes.
#133 “athlon dual core 4000+ 1 gb ram and nvidia 8600gt graphics card” is plenty for UT3. I have Athlon Dual Core 5000+ 2 GB RAM and MSI 8600GT OC grapics card. I dont have any of them problems you have. Maybe you need to install/run the game as admin on you computer. Wish I could help you but many people are having trouble with all kinds of stuff with this game. Hope you get it figured out and let us know what you do to fix it.

My game play is fine, however I am freezing and lagging like crazy after games in the menu’s. And lagging prior to games in menu’s also.
Is my hardware sufficient? Over heating? Or should I try to figure out how to do #138 as was suggested to #137, is a cutscene a menu?
Well i fixed my problem, i scrolled through the error message and saw something about out of memory so i just put another 2gb of ram in and it runs fine now

I had the same problem as #38
after messing with it forever, I found I had to play single map. As in no map cycle, once I removed all the maps from map cycle and only played one map at a time the problem went away. I’m still having an issue where I can play every aspect of the game except a single player campaign the cutscenes play fine but the game crashes on the load screen for the first mission, and thus I have yet to play the campaign.

okay I can clarify my problem now, shangrila is the map crashing .. it’s the first load in the campaign and I hadn’t played it until now.

I have just finished reinstalling windows, updating all my drivers and software. Have an ASUS mobo with a AMD3000+ chip and 7950GT video card. Before the reinstall, I had issues with the game, but had to update my video drivers and install the patch for it to run. But..that was a different issue. Any ideas?

for the runtime error you may want to check microsoft for both the .net framework and the c++ runtime library, you may be missing some of the files the game requires.

I dont understand I was playing it fine until today, I havent changed anything since I updated it to get the movies to work.

kernel32.dll errors unfortunately can be caused by a massive number of varying problems, I suggest reading this and seeing if you can narrow down your issues, if you are clocked at all I suggest removing any memory timings or manual changes you have made to your system configuration.

I think I have figured out what causes the CD Key saving issue. Well for me I was using my on board video card and every time I would start the game it would ask me for the Key. Well I got me a new MSI NX8600GT OC VGA 256 MB PCI express card from newegg.com. I no longer have to enter my Key since I installed it 5 days ago. I recommend AMD Dual core 5000+ or higher with 2 GB of Ram. I realized the recommended requirement arent working for many people. BTW 99.00 dollars for 8600GT overclock video card from Newegg.com with a 20 dollar rebate if purchased before 1-28-08. Its a deal and it runs perfect with all setting turned up all the way in the game.
I think people are giving this game too much credit the playable requirements aren’t as bad as crysis, I play this on three machines.
one a standard old p4 3.2ghz with a 6800gt AGP!!
second fx60 – 2×7950 SLI
and newest 3.0ghz duo with 2x 8800gtx, and it runs fine on all of them Full settings on both the newer machines.

Magus..I wish I could help you with that problem but I’m not sure. You didnt mention RAM on any of your machines. I believe you need a min of 2 GB of RAM regardless what the UT3 specs say.Is that what you have? I am still playing campaign which seems like level 25 or so and havnt had any trouble with any of the maps. My specs for my computer are ECS Motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+, 2.6 GHz, 2 GB GSkill RAM, 8600GT overclock VGA, 250GB HDD and WIN XP SP2. With these specs I have no problems. Although I did modify my processes in my control settings so some things arent running at start up. Some running applications that start on default could may be corrupting that map.

There are actually a handful of maps I ahve found now that don’t run, what happens is the load screen pops up the little icon spins around about 2 1/2 times then it just crashes to desktop with a ut3.exe error containing about 40 pages of garbled insanity non of which (yes I read most of it) actually points to a dll or addon of some sort to blame. The most annoying part is I can play all but these like 6 maps without any problems settings maxed on my two newer machines. I’ve given up on the older one it doesn’t run the game very well anyhow. …and yes I have 2gigs on the amd machine a 4gig of ocz reaper on this thing. It’s really annoying as I can play everything on the market right now totally maxed without so much as a hiccuup, but when it comes to UT3 I’m basically stuck to a few maps online and instant action play on the maps I know will work.
I found a solution to the following problem!!!!

Solution: I updated UT3 with die v1.1 patch, then I edited the UTengine.ini file (c:\Documents and Settings\****\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config) with the following: Set bInitializeShadersOnDemand=False to True
and PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=False to True.
After that, the game started and I have no problems so far.

hmmmm. I might have figured out problem six, well not figured out how to fix it but I have figured out what maybe causing it. I think it may be something to do with the Nvidia 7800GT because all of the other people who are having the same problem have the 7800gt maybe Nvidia will make a patch or something in there next firmware update.

hey. just installed ut 3. my com gave me the blue scrren of death after i change the resolution to a higher setting but not max. Then i tried the game without the cd but it just hang on me. Tried with cd and blue death came again. When i reboot, it brought me to the choose safe windows option then hanged multiple times. When i got thru the com will hang after 10 mins. Help. When i played islander nexus against the bots that they can only have DarkWalker(in Campaign) i play about 2 minutes and shows me an error encoutered bla bla bla…the problem was at ut3.exe and the wrong tive Kernel32.dll .Can someone help me?

Yeh, It all installed fine, then when i try and play the game I loads up well slow and then goes black after the initial UT3 screen that is on the box has shown. The computer then crashes and has a serious error. My computer is a dell XPS pentium 4 with 1gb ram and loads of memory space. Is this to do with my graphics card?

Hello. I have played the unreal series since it started. I always had the recommenden sistem requerments, but now I want to play ut3. I have download it. The problem apears when I play in a map, the screen goes black for 30 sec and than comes back, or it remains for ever black. I play in 1024*768 with level 2 texture and world detail.
My system has:

UT3 crashes after 5 minutes or so… I have a EVGA 680i motherboard (love it) E6750 @ 3.44 2 gigs DDR2 Balistix Tracers @ 1150 mhz 5-5-5-15 2.1v. X-Fi Fatality. I can run prime 95 forever, sisoft sandra, memtest all over 24 hrs straight, until I shut them off…. My system is stable. I run crysis at full dx 9 settings, play for hours no problem, I can play anything else, without crashes. I have updated all my drivers, tried to run UT3 without openAL, changed the memory settings, monitored my temperatures, patched the game, reinstalled the game, uninstalled everything in safe mode,reinstalled it all, changed my PCI slot for my sound card, etc. etc. I really like this game but.. not 5 minutes at a time. Ususlly the machine freezes, I have a second monitor, when I click on it, I can get the start bar to show and then I can end the game, otherwise I would have to reboot. My sound card did act funny one day, and I reinstalled it, but it seems to be working fine on everything else. once or twice I have ended the game before it crashed about 5 minutes of playing or so… when I did I saw an error message that said “UT3.exe Application error” looking at the windows report details it was a memory error 0x00000b343 something or other.. the usual memory error. but my memory is granite solid. could this be X-Fi “X Ram” ?

I re-installed my Drivers for my graphics card (done by going to the website of my graphics card’s company, and downloading the latest driver for it), and it’s at least bearable now.
However, i also found that my Graphics card is above the Minimum requirements, but under the Recommended requirements, so i’ll be ordering a new one tonight. Will let ya’ll know how it turns out with the new graphics card.

Problem: run UT3 and it sits at the splash screen and does nothing. same with Gears of War, another Unreal engine game
Solution: As per other posts I uninstalled the X-Fi card and drivers and ran the onboard audio. UT3 runs beautifully without any further problems. (Gears of War starts, but has it’s own buggy problems) Suggest the unreal engine has problems with certain X-Fi drivers, though not sure which ones.

i am also having my campaign movies crash and lockup i even formatted and reinstalled my operating system decided to try again and got the same problem my graphics drivers are updated and the game runs perfect during a match. if i hit escape quickly enough at the movies start i can get into the actual campaign gameplay but after a match it drops me out and says connection to server has been lost
Got a solution for this:
“Can’t create online profile… Says “must be an alphanumeric character” ”
Do this:
- write the name on notepad file
- copy the name
- enter the game and paste it in “username”
If it doesn’t work, follow the above steps , plus the following:
- click “Play offline” or something like that, and then click “Log in” and try to create the profile.
I am having issues with the “Campaign Mode” saving.. everytime I exit the game, I will just restart the campaign from the very beginning..
I find when running I seem to be randonmly knocked of course for no reason – the character executes a jump and deviates off to one side mid run. This happens a LOT, even with nobody else about. V annoying in a close battle… Anybody else notice this? And if so any way to fix it?
Problem with mouse axis.
The game works fine, loads fine, plays fine, but it will not move my character left or right when I move the mouse. It fires fine, and I can rotate the character with the cursor keys… but it will NOT let me move my character with the mouse, even though the mouse itself works fine in all menu’s, etc, and the cursor works fine. Anyone else see a problem like this? The mouse works perfectly in every other game, and has worked flawlessly in this as well up to today, when it seems to no longer work, for no reason.

- Start UT3, (make sure you have internet connection established) make a online profile (if you cannot make, see the post #221), click “Offline mode”.

Hi, I bought UT3 last saturday and installed on my also just bought PC (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66, 1GB RAM, nVidia 8500 512MB) and it played well, until i got to the fourth level i think and then it just exit to windows. I couldn’t get it run anymore after that. I uninstalled and re-installed and then it wouldn’t even start. Just when finishing installation the same error pop up: UT3 has found a problem and has to quit (Or something like that, very short and meaningless). I even formatted the disk and re-installed everything again and nothing. Downloaded that path from creative thought it would work, and guess what? nothing. I’ve been an unreal player since the first game appeared in 1998. Now i got a decent computer to play it and i can’t. Please, someone, any ideas? Any at all?
Iam haveing a problem everytime i play the game i have a crash it just freezes with a black screen and crashes i reinstall and unistall but it still does it.
I get the black screen crash too. Normally after about 15 minutes play. PC locks up, can’t ctrl alt del out of it. Have to press button on front of PC to close down untidily. Brand new visat Dell XPS machine. If I reboot and go back in game crashes after about 5 minutes rather than 15. Have installed latest Nvidia drivers and patched game to 1.1. Made no difference.
ok, I was #200, EVGA 680i mobo, superclocked GTX graphics. I solved my crashing problem by raising the voltage on my ram up 1/10 of a volt. the ram spec’s at 2.2, but it ran stable at 2.1, so I left it there. It passed 24 hour runs of memtest and prime95, but I guess they’re just not good enough tests. UT3 now runs fine.
Failed to load package “vCTF-suspence” apears every time i try to play in the vctf-suspence.But i can play every other map no problem.
I have the exact same problem as #214. Cursor will not move once the battle starts. It is fine in the menus. I have been working with the MidWay people, but so far no results.

OK, without being scientific, I did 3 things and now my battle cursor works fine. I don’t claim to know why these worked and if only one or two of them did the trick…
I changed the desktop to have a parm: “C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe” -nohomedir as suggested above for a completely different problem.
Then I changed 2 items in the Engine.ini: [Engine.ISVHacks]
UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=False
PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=true
For whatever reason that did the trick for me.

problem: if you have an external monitor .. it may not connect perfectly u may have to restart to make it work properly

Since ive installed the v1.2 patch. Everytime I go to the menu “instant action” or try to change anything in the settings menu. Its like someone is holding down the bottom arrow key, it wont let me select anything because it keeps auto selecting anything at the very bottom of the list. Help? X_x

The problem Im getting is that I get a serious performance drop when I some weapons.
When I use the rocket launcher, the link gun and the shock rifle, the game runs smoothly but when I change to any other weapons I get a really bad performance drop and this happens in any video setting even the lowest.

Hi. I have a screen resolution problem. Whenever I change the screen resolution to 1024×768 it goes back to 640×480. I clicked apply. I even restarted the game. Apparently I’m suppose to get a notification if I really want to change the resolution. However, I do not get the notification.
My PC Specs are AMD athlon X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.4ghz, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD and nVidia 8600GTS 256mb card. So I should be able to run the game fine.

Same problem as 124, 125 and a few others – Game freezes after a few seconds of cutscene, and not always in the same point in the videos. If I Ctrl+Alt+Del quickly, I can get back to my desktop, otherwise I have to hard-restart. Instant Action works perfectly.

Having a problem with the cutscenes of UT3… The same problem that everyone else has posted: A couple of seconds into the cinematic and then it freezes, looping a second of sound.
Now, I’ve read through the tips here and tried changing the ini line of PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled from False to True.
That DID seem to do the trick… For about 20 seconds. And after that, guess what, lads? Freeze, crash and burn. And it’s not only the first cinematic, it’s every cinematic in the game, and it’s getting pretty frustrating.
I’ve also encountered the bug, where if I’m playing or loading a map, the screen turns black and suddenly my monitor says “no input” and goes into sleep mode. I can get out of the sleep mode by pressing ctrl+alt+del, which is when UT3 crashes and my desktop stays in the resolution that I’m playing with and cannot be changed from Windows properties nor my video card drivers setup. So I have to restart the computer.

At first it played ok at high rez, now with patch 1.2 it just shuts the machine down after the main menu.Seems to overheat the CPU core somehow.I bought this new board that a sensor goes off when overheat is found on cpu.It goes away after UT is shut down.It cant keep the sensor on for more than 30 seconds or it thinks cpu has no fan and shuts off.Seems issue recures with fresh install.Im using latest NVidia patches.

The answer was simple – the fan on my graphics card wasn’t working. That’s why the game crashed faster after a reboot – the card was already quite warm from the first game.

Repeating sound and then total Freeze. Sometimes i can get out with Task manager, but sometimes it needsa reboot. I’ve got an NVidIA 7600 GS. Any Help Please. Thanks

Game does not work.
Load the game and it “might” get past the intro screen. If it does and you choose any of the gaming options “Campaign, etc.” The game plays for 5 secs and crashes everytime. I can play Crysis, Bioshock, Gears of War, NSF ProStreet with the settings turned all the way up and I have no problems.
What gives?? Is there a patch for this game? I have already installed one patch to no avail……
When I click the .exe to start the game, I get a black screen as if it is loading the game then after about a minute my pc restarts itself. I have fully patched the game

Problem #6 : Unreal Tournament 3 login screen keeps on freezing, sometimes permanently.
Mine always freezes.. and never gets past that screen. Would love to play the game. Just paid $50 and its a big paper weight. I heard other forums about this game being rushed for Christmas.. pfft.
I have problem #7. I can install the game but when I try to run it, a message comes up saying “ut.exe has stopped working” I have a windows vista laptop with intel premium.

Still no luck, the game still freezes on the splash screen
. i have been to every on line forum i can think of, and even asked my really techy friends to have a look at it and they don’t know either. i paid £35 for this heap of long awaited junk. i have tried every fix listed above and some that are not!!!! Is this some sort of con or what? I love unreal and would love to play the new game, even in a dodgy resolution!!! You can only re-install so many times you know, Epic seem happy to take our money, but now they have got it they don’t seem too bothered about putting their mistakes right, after all – we are only the paying public, and the customer is never right – are they? If i can’t get this cleared up soon i am going to use my disc as a coffee coaster, it has no other value! It looks as if i am stuck with the old faithful GOTY edition, it might be a little out dated on the graphics and stuff, but it runs like a dream, and only takes 1 UT patch.
If you get any new ideas to the UT3.exe error please let me know, as £35 is a lot to pay to look at the splash screen.
I have this problem…
UT III completely shuts down my system, no error message, no lag time to restart & no reported issue upon restart. I think me GPU temp is ok, mind you it is higher than I have ever seen get though. I have loaded the first patch & bonus pack… the shut down occurs random in timeframs & when it happens, it seems like someone held the power button in for 5sec… Like that, a complete shutdown.
Any suggestions?

Secondary problems: Epic’s latest creation is totally useless in any conceivable capacity. Have tried it as a coaster,freesby and shackram (filed the edges). Any other ideas?
All videos freeze and lock up my computer after 5 secs and needs a hard reboot to unlock. Gameplay is working fine and fast as long as i esc out of the videos before it crashes. Any fixes?

I installed the game and when I run it, it hangs without entering the game or display the window to enter serial number or something. This is happening on vista with sp1 installed. Any ideas?!

Hi ya I’ve been having the same problem as number one where i can play for a few minutes before it freezes and restarts my computer. Not sure why but it works better on some days than others. All so when ever i exit the game it completly restarts my computer? Any answers?

Hi I just purchased UT3 and my computer mre then meets tthe minimum sped:
768MB Ram
XP AMD Atlon 2100+
Geforce 7600 GS AGP
But when I play the game it takes ages to load up, the play is jerky and the graphics are blurred and pixelated. I wasn’t expecting supersharp graphics but I was expecting something better than this. Is there anything I can do (and don’y say but a new computer) to make it run faster and better
Game plays fine, then after installing patch 1.1 and/or 1.2 the game will load all the way to the “press any key screen” then it goes to next screen (log in screen)where I can see the version in the upper left hand corner and freezes. I have to reboot and uninstall UT3 to get it working again (without patches). I tried updating the drivers for my video cards and it changed nothing.

Answer to question 278 (my question) After experimenting a little I noticed I could play offline. (my joystick created havoc, so I disconnected it) Then when I tried to log in on my profile it froze again, but I noticed my Norton was in alarm. I couldn’t tab over, but once I disabled “auto protect” everything worked fine.
Is there a way to leave my joystick in without any issues ?
my problem is like problem 6 however it gets stuck at the loading screen and i cant alt tab or ctrl alt del out. Also i have 2 computer screens and the one screen that doest have the game running goes completely black making me have to completely manually restart the system.
i forgot to mention that this only happens in about 1/10 the servers i have played in and so far only when i attempt to join a vctf map
i tryed installin unreal tournament 3 it goes through it all fine but wen i click on it to load it up it comes up witha send error report or dont send? and ive unistalled it and installed it 4 times and its getting realli anoyin like any other problem? any solutions?
It seems that I can no longer change my resolution without the game crashing. I used to be able to as I’m currently at 1280×1024. I’ve tried patching and I’ve updated my video driver. I haven’t played the game in a while, but I didn’t have this problem before I upgraded my CPU/Mobo and changed to an LCD monitor. I’m supposed be able to go to 1680×1050. I tried other different settings, even smaller, more common resolutions and still crash with a UT3.exe error message. Anybody got any ideas? Should I reinstall the game?
OK! I’m having major pivot problems but not just any problems, I’ve clicked something or pushed a key, So now only lets me moves the point of brushes and objects… anything you name it i cant move it, just the pivot… and no one knows how to fix this. the only known solution is to uninstall the who software and any thing else that is connected to unreal and even this is only a FIFTY percent chance that it will fix the problem… this is really bad and i need a fast response as i am in a pinch thank you and hopefully you respond fast.

Everything runs fine in-game on highest graphics settings but cutscenes skip, freeze and loop. Why is it doing this? I’ve tried changing graphics settings but nothing works.

Running Steam version of UT3 since installing service pack 1 for vista UT3 splash screen shows but it never finishes loading doesn’t crash just sits there. If I click on it giving option to end task or wait for program to respond. I am running Vista 64 bit ultimate. Running two ATI 3870 cards in crossfire. Driver 8.4 and 8.5 do same thing. I imaged my drive before SP1 update returning to pre SP1 no problem loads and runs fine. Moral of story is don’t upgrade to SP1 but most other games and apps run faster under SP1 interesting to note Bioshock does the exact same thing with SP1 installed…so think this is an Unreal Technology engine issue not ATI or Microsoft.
I am using xp, and i easily meet the minimum system requirements. However when i insert the disc i do not get the autoplay screen to show up, it automatically begins to install the game, and then if i install the game again then it wants to uninstall. This also means that when i go to play the game it does not open, the game begins to open, then the screen goes black and i get an error after about 30 seconds. the game works on my laptop which is not as good, but is running vista and on another laptop which is xp. any help would be appreciated.

I have a screen of blur (like static from a television) a short distance infront of my screen, I can just about see through it and the game runs fine otherwise.
Some levels are fine and the game runs ok apart from a few crashes etc…

UT3 keeps crashing and shutting down randomly. Sometimes I can’t even get to the login screen, other times it’s in the middle of a game.
I read though a lot of these, but not all. I kept having the problem of it crashing after the intro screens. Couldn’t play at all.
I alt-ctl-del and found ut3.exe in the processes list > Selected Affinity > and set the game to only one core. Haven’t had a problem since.
There is a dual core optimizer and a hot fix from micro soft that might work, but the last time I tried the hotfix it borked windows file system.
Hmmm… I’ve tried pretty much everything to sort out the random exiting of the game followed by the “error” message that comes up. You would have though Epic or Midway would do a patch of some sort.

install says it completes but when i hit the icon or launch on screen it says “ut3.exe has encountered an error” or on windows vista it says “ut3.exe is not working” i have tried 3 different computers and it gives the same error. i updated everything uninstalled reinstalled down loaded the openal thing and still has an error, sometimes the update ini file comes up but not all the time. i cant even get it to launch without the error popping up. i tried autoplay.

when I login to ut3 and reach the main menu…my mouse is not able to select anything..it only can highlight the selections…..and my mouse is perfectly fine.
I have the same problem as most people, i load UT3 from a desktop shortcut and i get the start up screen with the guy standing in the middle and the 3 red lines of blood.
After a few seconds i get a box saying that UT3.exe has stopped working, then one saying that is has stopped and windows will try to find a solution for this and close program is highlighted at this time UT3 has exited itself.

UT3 editor when trying to load it if crashes. Giving me an error message that says if you were in the middle of somthing its lost. It comes up twice. The computer dosnt freez. It worked for a while and i was in the middle of a project when it happed. I whent to publish and publisher crashed, but i was able to keep editing. I thot it was the cooker or publisher untill i restarted and the editor didnt work. I can play the game fine, but i like to make maps.

Same as 14, after 3 months of troubleshooting to no avail. I have contacted Midway and all of their solutions made things worse or did nothing. I’m fed up. Someone must know why this is happening. Apparently Midway has no clue. I have also tried every fix listed on this page for problem 14. None of these fixes have resolved the issue for me.

but when i play warfare or another map that is huge it freezes up the second map i play it in about 1 minute..
so the first map i clan play properly but the second it just freezes and say; UT3.exe not responding… can anyone find a solution for this prob.?!?!?!

Installing patch didn’t help so I edited the UTengine.ini file.

When i try to watch cinematics, the game freezes and there is a sound loop. I tryed the following way : Open the UTEngine.ini (My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config) and change PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=False to PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True

I have a texture bug at least i think its a bug…when i play i can see everything ok but some objects are buged when i look at then its like they are tranparent and create ghost images of surronding whe i move. still getting problem number 12 UT3.exe error, the splash screen appears and freezes, then nothing and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get anything to happen. I have checked all of the specs and have more than enough to run the program. Disappointing really!!! It seems like they have taken our money and use the enjoyment of what was a great game and then done a runner, because there is nothing on the unreal and epic sites that offers even the smalest glimmer of hope. None of the videos in the entire game work for me (not just the campaign vid; all of them). they usually play the first 1-1.5sec of the vid, them the computer locks up. If I click like a mad man, then I can just skip them and play the game (which works great), but I’d really like to see the opening videos. Any ideas as to what’s wrong: (I already changed the “PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=False to PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True” thing, but it didn’t help.)

Hey mate. figured I would check this out. My unreal tournament 04 has just recently started acting up on me.
flashes a little then. Then it the screen goes black. But, if I hit ctrl esc. my normal screen will come up. And it will be good. I have noticed this happening after I have played unreal 04 for a little bit. Suggestions, recommendations.

Hello, I have a no server show up problem in the lobby. I patched the game to 1.3 and alreayd fixed the random- in game crash problem. I cant get where I have to make sure the ’7777 port’ is open, sorry if im a noob, but where the hell do I do it? Secondly, whats a friggin DMZ? Kinda annoying on the page where i find perefect put of my problem (no server show in lobby) I get a solution in two parts, none of em understable. PLS HELP! The game freezes after the initial splash screen and I get a UT3.exe error, I have tried updating C++, ran the newest 1.3 patch and turned off hardware open AL, still no go. Please help

I think you will be waiting a long time for your problem to be fixed, I have had the same problem since I bought the game last year, and so far there has been no workable solution (I have tried everything suggested) and I wouldn’t hold out any hopes for one in the near future!!!! I have had some of the best tech guys I know look at this (and they know their stuff) and have been told unless the designers come up with a fix I should just leave the disc in the box and find something else to play. Ever heard the phrase “Take the money and run” I get the feeling that we have been forgotten. Sorry!!!

i am sadly having the installation problem “Error 2350.FDI server error”. I mean, it only gets half way there then locks up and gives me that error. =(
Around 5 mins (often EXACTLY) into the game, it freezes for a second then i get a mostly black screen with an error saying ut3.exe had an error and has to close. I’ve tried most solutions here but none work. PLEASE HELP!

DMZ is Demiliterized Zone aka unprotected zone. It is a setting on your firewall to place a computer unprotected from the firewall. You may actually have two firewalls up if you also have a router installed. The firewalls job is to block bad traffic; one way it does that is to block unusual incomming port traffic and port 7777 is one of them by default.
Firewall 1: If you have Windows XP SP2+ ( not sure about Vista /shutter) the firewall is default on, during installation of UT3 you may have gotten a warning from Windows whether you wanted to keep blocking or allow traffic, hopefully you set it to allow but if not then the game is blocked.
To unblock it from windows firewall hit Start>Control Panel>Security Center>Windows Firewall; Click the exeptions tab at the top and find UT3 and check the box, if UT3 is not there then Add Port… enter UT3 for name and port 7777 click OK and OK again and your done.
Firewall 2: This is a bit more tricky but most router website will tell you how to forward your router port. Here is a sample for the Linksys routers but if you have Netgear, Belkin or another you will have to check the website and do something similar.
In your browser type the address http://192.168.1.1/ you will be prompted to enter login/password.. LinkSys default login is blank and password is admin.
Older Linksys you will need to click the advanced tab then forwarding.
Newer LinkSys you need to find the gaming tab in both cases you will see a list of 10 spots to enter ip addresses and port ranges. Now find out what your IP is Start>Run type in cmd, enter; a black window will pop up, type in ipconfig /all you will see a line with IP Address 192.168.1.XXX go back to the browser window and enter the IP Address in the IP box and port 7777 in the from and to boxes then check the enable and apply. You should now not get the warning and be able to serve UT3.

P.S. I have crash on movie play as well -nosound fixes it but who plays without sound ughh!!! Tried all .ini changes I could find and still nothing. My next fix is to just fo by a SB X-Fi and be done with it.
okay, i have (effectively) solved my own problem!
my issue with OpenAL was probably because i had a sound manager thingy that must’ve come with my Creative sound card. i had had CMSS (?) enabled, which i found made a 2.1 audio source play as 5.1; i tried turning this off but that didn’t work, so i simply right-clicked and exited the app. BINGO! now it works like a charm! Thanks, me!
ps. in case this helps too, i also exited winamp, because i’m prety sure i had a 2.1-5.1 plugin running there too
i also got the same problem with the campaign cut scenes freezing my system. i thought it was my ancient processor but after trying the fix i found that was posted here as well, i was able to go through with the campaign.

I’m currently a student at westwood college online. I’m taking the class game process design. I need to use the unreal tournament three game engine. This is my problem I can get the loading page for the engine to come up but thats it. I get a na error message saying ut3.exe has stopped working and nithing more than that. It also says that a problem has occured and made the game stopped working. What can I do. Any solution will help me. I have many of times uninstalled the game and then re-installed and still get the same thing over and over.
My son’s Phenom Quad core PC crashes on splash screen. I turned off mobo sound chip in bios and it works just fine (but without sound). Try the same to isolate a sound issue. Now, do I buy a sound card, or wait for a fix?

I have a problem with my UT3 Editor. Everything functions normally so far as I can tell, except there is no “cook” icon where it should be on the top right of the screen. my toolbar simply ends at the default “No Propagation” box. I thought at first it was a resolution problem (1024 x 768), but when I pull it down into a non-fullscreen window, I still can’t stretch the right side of the screen any further to reveal any “hidden” icons there. I’ve patched up to 1.3, so I figure it can’t be a content problem either. Please help… An editor is useless if you can’t publish your mods. =(
my unreal tournament 3 gives no textures just a big fog and sometimes one big open plain. something about the graphic card but i can’t disable it
I can’t install the game. The demo plays perfectly fine, but when I put the cd in, it installs and then starts doing file checks or something and it hits the map files and then gives an error saying, can’t access file XXX, verify it is there and you can acces it. The window has a retry or cancel and I have to cancel the install. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have Winrar installed per chance? I’ve had a similar problem, and had to uninstall Winrar to get rid of it. couldn#t believe it when I google linked me to a forum with this solution but it should most likely work for you aswell.
This is because Winrar is assigned to open these files (“open with” and this causes trouble during installation.

Bram – I don’t think anyone can help you here if you don’t post yoru system specs. To me it sounds like a) old drivers or b) a weak graphics card without the required Shader Models i.E. onboard.
Gilarin – That resolution is really low for today’s standards. Even I get into trouble working on a 1280×1024 res on a normal 19′ CRT. Lack of space. uED seems to be designed for 22′ widescreen monitors in mind…
Kevin – I had with the AudigyLS and the UT3 demo. Updating the sound drivers (by completely reinstalling them) fixed the crash on startup issue. Also, you can try disabling openAL through the .ini files.

I was able to get UT3 to install after a ton of problems. It would get to checking files and pull an Error 1305. I contacted a friend who dug and Error 1305 usually means a bad cd. He also dug some other forums and found where Midway had a batch of CDs they sent out that had minor issues. They would install on some systems, but other CD drives they will just not read on and give a Error 1305.
I have 2 computers, and it would not install on either, I tried his house, it installed fine. I still trusted what he found and returned the cd and it installed perfectly the first time.
If you get a 1305 Error, return the disk to the store as defective and get a new one.
Some more observations to counter crashes and freezes…
The kernel32.dll error happened to me after accidentally saving a retail package in unrealED. Reinstall of UT3 fixed the problem for me.
Disabling Catalyst AI speeds up loading times by about 600%. On slow machines, this can make a huge difference: loading times between 10-30 seconds (dependent on map size, amount of players…) and 5-10minutes!
Then there was a case of a corrupted pagefile. Had to move it to another drive to get rid of bluescreen-crashes.
There are some unresolved issues, but atleast far less than after the initial installation. -.-”
Problem 7
After months without being able to run UT3, I solved problem 7 simply by upgrading to an Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT graphics card. I have gone from an error message at the load screen and game shutdown to being able to run with all graphics set to maximum with no problems, lost frames or lag. If you are running graphics off of anything lower than a PCI express 16X card with at least 512 mb, you should upgrade your graphics card. With the economy crapping out, you should be able to find one for cheep at one of the many stores that are going out of business. I got mine at Circuit City for $150 because all the Circuit City stores in Phoenix are closing and have mad crazy deals on everything.

If that’d be the case, UT shouldn’t be working on my computer atall. It’s an Athlon64 3700+,with 2GB RAM and an ATI HD 2600XT 512MB AGP card, slightly overclocked. It’s running like a charm, because I didn’t try to force settings on my machine that aren’t feasible fps wise. Details at 4/4 @ 1024×768 resolution without problems (read: above 30fps at all times), and the crashes I get do even happen in other games (such as NWN…which really isn’t a graphics monster *cough* ), because of the non-WHQL AGP drivers.
So if UT doesn’t start up at all it’s for 80% the graphics driver’s fault.

Don’t know if my problem is same as #12,13,or 14 but have tried to install UT3 three times. About the time the installation is complete, it fails to open the game but instead says it cannot get started. I’m not a technician so what are my options. I’m $20 in the hole if this doesn’t work.

I have found a fix for my son’s sound related game crash on Filestube.com We could isolate the problem by disabling the sound hardware. Now the fix is at http://www.filestube.com/dd86aadc26dcc40303e9/details.html just click the free user button and the zip file downloads. It consists of replacing two OpenAL files, and includes instructions in a txt file. Hope it helps some of you out.

I cant even install the game. When i mount it, it just says “Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” Double-clicking the setup doesn’t help either- it starts to uninstall and then finds out that the game isn’t installed and then closes. HELP PLZ!

I’ve had a couple of problems not listed here.
First, I wasn’t able to create an online profile. All I got was the message: “The online service is currently unavailable. Please wait and try reconnecting again.”
Secondly, whenever I tried to start the campaign (even offline) and as soon as the intro movie began I got: “Error initializing network layer.” Then I got kicked to the main menu. The listed solution for Problem #11 had no effect whatsoever.
Anyway, there’s thankfully a solution to both of these problems. Apparently you have to reset XP’s tcp winsock in order for the game to access certain functions; unnecessary functions which Epic for some idiotic reason saw fit to force upon us PC players.
To do so, go to the command prompt (either manually or by clicking “Run” and then writing “cmd”). Then write the following in the DOS prompt:
1) netsh
2) netsh>winsock
3) netsh>winsock>reset
4) exit
5) Restart the computer.
That should do it. It certainly did it for me.

I have latest patch but game keep crashing. If i am lucky, i can play ut3 about 2 minutes and then crash! UT3 works perfectly, but my only problem is this stupid crash. Sometimes middle of loading game might crash. I hope someone can help me with this

when ever I try to go on multiplayer I select a server then wait for it to load but before it fully loads it comes up with a blue screen error message for about 20 secounds then restarts my computer =( HELP?
I have installed UT3 on my laptop with Vista and when I click on the Icon The Intro pic shows up but does not run the program. When I try to open the window it says UT3 (Not Responding). ok so my game started out working fine. no issues that i could see, start ups and movies wrked too. I can’t create or log in to a ut3 profile. I had a friend create a profile because the game told me that the online service is unavailable; then told me to try retry later. My friend can log in to the profile but when I try it makes a silly ut3 sound and goes back to the login screen. Seems like the game is not recognizing I’m online. Ports maybe?

Problem #15 (error 1335) and #1 (error 2350) would be concurrent for me. First #15 when occur when installing Data1.cab. After that, error 2350.
But I had the same problem with another game, so it couldn’t be the games.
I installed BurnInTest to run a full system diag. I found one of my 2 Gig Memory Modules was no good. After isolating and taking the particular stick out, I was able (and still am) to install UT3 without failure.
And judging by other system failures I had, the memory stick was also a problem since receiving my Dell. I hope this helps some. The was a major headache.
When i try to open Unreal Tournament 3, it says this: “Failed to find default engine.ini file to retrieve My Documents subdirectory to use. Force quitting.”

Then the programm closes. I downloaded the 2.0 patch and tried playing from the disk instead of the icon, but get the same issue. My computer is brand new, Vista, 4 gigs ram, 4.2GHz pentium, 500 gig HD, 250 meg video.
All the other URT games work fine.

Multiplayer freezes/lags after joining the game. When I search for a game (sometimes I get a list and sometimes I don’t) and successfully join, I press fire to get in (cant always get in) but will only be able to move around without being able to fire. People will usually be running into walls like I’m lagging.
Everytime I play unreal tournament 3 my game freezes at random times and all I can do is reastart my computer. I can play cleanly for 3 games straight and then other times it freezes in the first 5 minutes. What do I do?

Updated game to 2.1 and had the titan pack installed before updating

The game always froze after trying to reach the (FSTUN)server and showed a ‘waiting for graphics card’ in the log file.
Here is what wroked for me:
System: E6600, GA-P35-DQ6 , Geforce 8800GTS (640mb) newest driver (185.85), non-steam ut3 version 2.1
After installing the X-Fi modded realtek hdaudio drivers R2.26, the games asked me to re-enter my CD-Code and since then on the game is rock-steady.
I don’t know whether it is the R2.26 driver or the X-Fi mod that solved the problem, but one of them did.

False alarm – worked 3 days in a row for 9 times without any freeze, but froze today again – so no solution, either!

hi i have recently installed unreal tournament 3 and every time i go to play it it says (..\UTEngine\…..) is out dated and needs to be up dated not doing so may cause crashes.
then you can either say (yes,yes to all,no,no to all). i immediately said yes hoping it would fix it but then it would go into the loading start page and die. so i tried reinstalling it and tried to find the problem that was out of date but it all says the current date.

With the freeze at launch i fixed mine by updating the high definition audio driver microsoft loads automatically when you first install windows – it worked ok till i installed ut3

I have a fix for my problem. #57 for those without internet connection or those who can’t save their campaign progress.
1. Copy the player.ue3profile [I think that's the name] and rename it anything [e.g. pepsi.ue3profile]
2. Start up the game, and type the nickname [I used pepsi] and ANY password.
3. That should do the trick. I have been able to reload chapters and what not.

I have a new ASUS M4N72-E motherboard, when I start the game up it just freezes at the splash screen, I found that the only way the game will run, is for me to use the -nosound switch, then the game will run but without sound of course, which is no good to me. I’ve updated the sound, bios, chipset and any other drivers I could think of and I get the same results. I talked with ASUS techs and of course they tell me , that since all my other games sound works fine it’s a problem with the good folks at midway, which I can’t argue, because after corresponding with midway techs, even they said it looks like a problem with their game. My question is, when does this become a priority with midway? This ASUS board is new, and all the new boards come with the new VIA audio, which doesn’t seem to work with URT 3.

APPCRASH UT3EXE the program will not load in Win Vista 64. FWIW-
I solved all my UT3 issues by buying a new video card. Sucks that you have to spend another $75-$200 on a video card just to play this game but, it improved the quality of many of my other games.
I’m not even that thrilled about UT3- find myself playing UT 2004 more often.

I finished installing UT3 demo for PC. Then, I click on the icon to play the game and i get the following message: “C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3 Demo\Binaries\UT3Demo.exe: Modified executable code is not allowed. so, i installed the game and the cut scenes look good and all, but when i get to playing it, i see my characters hand and gun but the scenary is all grey and splochy… distorted like. i can move and hear all the audio but my visual is all messed up… if this helps i have a RAEDEON x300 video card…please help and thank you

I’m having a problem that I would lie to address, as it seems whenever I start up the game, the graphics flicker every couple frames with an fps of about 98, maybe every 5 frames, i get a flicker and/or the terrain disappears for a couple frames longer. This gets worse as I get closer to the main part of the map, and the terrain actually DISAPPEARS, to the point where I actually fall through it and start taking damage.

When I try to QUIT UT-GOTY I get to my desktop but the games audio continues playing. Ctrl+Alt+Del and Unreal.exe is still running. from there I end task or process. This happened after trying the Update Patch 436? I Re-Installed from scratch and now the problem stays. any ideas?

when i start a campaign mode, quit then come back it does not give me the option of continue from where i was. how do i fix it.
There are a number of issues in UT3 Instant action mode.
First of all, your team does not listen to your orders.
Second, your own team does not make a planning for an attack in CTF or greed, while the opposite team makes really dirty plans. No cooperation whatsoever within your own team.
In vehicle CTF Sandstorm an attack from the opposition is always on the onset of low visibility, making sniping the opposite flag carrier impossible.
And if the flag is stolen the defender says “all clear!”
In other words, you are always on your own and you have to fix any problem by yourself, taking it up against an entire team. Skill level is skilled.
The last 10 times or so I had to score everything – yes everything! – myself because my team mates always drop the flag – highly incompetent.
Thirdly, the random bots are not random, you always end up with the same teams.
If you want to blow things up, instant CTF or instant greed is just fine, but if you want to play an exiting game prepare for unfair counter scores.
O yes, there is a fourth issue.
If you want to score in CTF or greed, you will have to run for it, making the home base the one and only aim.
Bots however keep twisting and turning for pick up items, even when they are within 20 steps from scoring (see the level ‘Rails’ at the upper part near the elevator with the mini gun plus ammo).
That is no good because it increases the chance to get hit and not score.
This should be easily programmable with an ‘if then’ construction: if X carries the flag, then home base is worth 100,000 points. Or something like that.
UT3 won’t run after killing processes & disabling services:
I’ve killed a bunch of processes and disabled a bunch of services to try to run the game faster. But now the game will crash on start. Are there any processes or services that UT3 actually needs to run?

I have a fix for my problem. #57 for those without internet connection or those who can’t save their campaign progress.
1. Copy the player.ue3profile [I think that's the name] and rename it anything [e.g. pepsi.ue3profile]
2. Start up the game, and type the nickname [I used pepsi] and ANY password.
3. That should do the trick. I have been able to reload chapters and what not.
