Smith & Tinker is a new entrant to the computer game development industry, staffed by veterans in the development scene. The new studio was founded by Jordan Weisman after parting ways with Microsoft after the FASA Studio ceased operations back in September this year, announced in their website (www.smithandtinker.com) that they we’re able to acquire FASA’s IP licenses from Microsoft.

Microsoft owned the electronic entertainment rights for Mechwarrior and other FASA titles since they were purchased in 1999 until the recent acquisition of these rights by Smith & Tinker this month.

Smith & Tinker is pleased to announce that it has licensed from Microsoft the electronic entertainment rights for Mr. Weisman’s previous creations of MechWarrior, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies and the other properties of the FASA catalog. We’re not quite ready to announce our plans for each property, but please be assured that our goal is to surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds.

One of the most notable IP in the list is Mechwarrior/Battletech’s. Mechwarrior/Battletech is known to be a universe with the most zealous fanbase. Battletech has been around since the 80’s and has been immortalized in many forms such as pen and paper games, novels, books, Trading card and miniature tabletop games and of course Video Games. Mechwarrior games were the pioneer to full-3d games and non of the PC Mechwarrior games ever flopped. Fans and gamers alike have been waiting for mecha games of Mechwarrior’s caliber since the Mechwarrior 4 series, and so far none have resurfaced for the PC.

So heres for wishing that Smith & Tinker can resurrect the mecha games for PC… *cheers
