Update : I’ve started making a knowledgebase for solving both SL07-001 and SL07-006 problems here :Fixes for SL07-001 and SL07-006 detection problems (Vista activation exploit)
Ok, Windows Vista Update came up to me and asked me to Download a KB940510 update from … well I thought it was a regular update, hotfix and all that so i clicked the little Windows update icon in the system tray and installed the update into my system. The moment the update gets loaded into my computer, an alert box notifying me that they found something fishy going on in my Vista system. The alert box went on with this message :
“Windows has found software that circumvents Windows activation and interferes with
its normal operation. The presence of this software may indicate your copy of
Windows is counterfeit”
The detected software was : SL07-001 of type Activation Exploit and prompted me to go to some website and repair windows or else my system could get fuxored by microsoft anytime.
“Go online to repair windows. After repair, your copy of Windows must be activated.
If you do not repair Windows, Windows might disable the software and you may need to activate this
copy of Windows.”
Then theres a check box that informs you that the error message may only appear once, Which could be a message for those who had Vista activation cracked installed that the moment of M$ pwnage can come at anytime and probably when they least expect it.

After closing that, i went on to inspect what change the KB940510 update did to my copy of Vista and nothing seems out of order. No new processes were running, nothing in the msconfig, the startup key in regedit. Well i dunno about service.msc, I’m still quite new to Vista and i wasn’t able to identify which service wasn’t supposed to be there. Nothing seems to have changed except for feeling you get when you know that when you restart your computer, Vista might not be the same on you or Lock up on you anytime or something like that. Probably the same feeling that a person gets when he contracts some fatal disease whose effect would kick in anytime soon.
I checked Windows Update again to see if there was a follow-up update or something that could be Microsoft’s “finishing blow” to those who have the SL07-001 activation exploit. Nope~ nothing fishy, updates were still coming as if my copy was activated. Other optional updates that i haven’t installed in the past were still listed there as well as an nVidia driver update dated 2/27/2008 was also in the list.
So yeah, you’ll probably hear from me again when that time comes. And yeah I HAD IT COMING (lol). And I’ll probably post a fix to the SL07-001 Activation Exploit detection or something to remove the SL07-001 activation exploit detection script

Help, Windows Update gave me a similar error. SL07-006 was detected on my Vista installation and notifies me that i should get an original copy of Vista or else it will be locked. Do you have an available fix to keep the SL07-006 Activation exploit from being detected? or a fix that can remove the detector if one has already been installed in my Vista via the patch update ?
oh btw, the SL07-006 got detected after i installed Vista RC Service pack 1, does it mean that the coming Vista service pack would have the Exploit detector installed along with it? not that im surprised. Advanced thanks for the fix
btw
lol kei, i can’t uninstall KB940510. doesnt show up in the list of updates that can be uninstalled.
Im sure someone is working on a fix or crack for the vista activation exploit detection update as we speak. It wont be long guys, just hang on
Did we all just get pwnt by MS? I thought I was invincible, but alas….
Yeah, a little part of my brain said to check out
that update, but I decided to ignore it. Darn!
However, I refused to check the box, thinking something
would happen straight away.. But the box kept comming up
in front of me. Finally, I did a cntl-alt-delete, and
task manager / end process.
It is certainly not a fix, but my windows still tells me
it is activated with my orig number. so? I delay the
inevitable I feel.
While I wait for someone of greater knowledge to assist me,
I am running off DVD’s of info, and I put all else inside
my windows folder. Remember that when we installed Vista,
it kept the old windows folder..?
I am doing this with the intention of reinstalling vista
and choosing my updates (not downloading sl07-001) if
something worse happens.
Now I won’t be able to reinstall the programs without the
original setup file, but I can save the things I do have.
Everything in the windows folder. Bookmarks, etc..
Just thought I would throw in my two pennies!
-sin6
got the same error … i just force quit the soft with taskmanager, update failed, win is still activated and everything seems to be ok (disable updates!)
From what i’ve heard, some of the activation exploits still do get through KB940510’s exploit detector. Wonder what SL07-002 up to SL07-005 is for too and why no one has reported anything about it. Anyway, im backing up my files now and would probably reinstall my stuff, but im sure i wont be able to update anymore because the KB940510 update might be necessary for the other updates to be displayed on Windows Update.
And hopefully some crackers would be able to make a crack for Windows Vista Sp1 because according to MS the activation exploit detection mechanism for SP1 would be more draconian than ever.
thanks in advance for a soln.
In order to continue doing updates, without installing the KB940510, all you have to do is go to windows update, right-click on the KB940510 update and chose HIDE. Then it will no more show the KB940510 update and you CAN CONTINUE doing all the other updates.
thanks miguel! thats good news for me, im almost done moving everything to my non-vista partition.
I knew this was comming with SP1, didn’t know they were doing an independant KB. Ah well, hopefully your ‘crash out’ and fail the update process has worked and I won’t have a ‘dead’ system in the morning.
Fingers crossed the techi’s will do the business again.
i have vista with sp1 and got a similar message today. i just said ok and nothing happened, i can still download other updates and my windows still says activated.
Removing the update should solve the problem. I have done a system restore to before the update (as there were 6 for me at the same time) so I will just have to wait and see what happens.
oh, and also, this specific update for SL07-001 isn’t a SP1 addition. I had a normal crack running pre-SP1 which was disabled by the update, so I ran an OEM-BIOS by PARADOX – which i am guessing is the software that windows is telling me about

Hi, how I can send PM?
can we get in trouble for this
hi, well I managed to uninstall this update…
I got pre-sp1 vista from bittorent. worked fine until i decided to update version(for system stabitity, security and all that crap ). i got the following message the same day:
“Windows must be repaired.
Windows has found software that circumvents windows activation and interferes with its normal operation. The presence of this software may indicate your copy of
Windows is counterfeit.
Detected software: SLO8-010
Type: Activation exploit”
Have been searching frantically online for a way to stop windows disabling the exploit. No luck
Nothing bad has happened yet, but if this post isn’t followed up then its safe to say they got me, and i no longer have an O/S to post from.
I seroisly doubt uninstalling the update will make any difference, ms are too clever for that.
reinstalling windows and downloading other updates could have the same effect, as ms are bound to hide the same activation exploit detector in other updates to prevent that.
the only safe option seems like reinstalling vista and downloading no updates. but then your O/S wil be screwed by malware and bugs instead of ms.
Ok, has anyone *actually* had anything bad happen to their hacked system yet? Is Micro$oft just blowing smoke? Pulling our leg? Yanking our chain?

try this guys virus free dont worry
Idiots. It is called Disable BITS and Windows Update from the Control Panel Administrative Options!
hey guys i had the same problem the other day with a new download that msft released. It didnt show up in the updates section like the rest did to uninstall.
Unfortunately my windows is a genuine version and i got the same peoblem about windows needing activation. That features like dreamscene and windows update would nor be accesable , plus i was getting an annoying window where i had to wait for 25 to 20 seconds to hit activate later to get into my desktop.
I rang up microsoft and they said it was validated but my os id stating otherwise. I got sick of contacting them so i went online and spent a whole day searching for wga cracks oem loaders for vista. Nothing worked.
THEN it dawned on me why its doing this. The update that microsoft has released installed a validation tool into vista that is the same as windows 7. So just to see if my assumptions were correct i downloaded win7loader from orbit .
LOW AND BEHOLD it worked. THAT has solved my problem for now but for the others here that have this problem , I personally will never purchase a microsoft product r even os EVER again . Lets put an end to microsoft ,buy mac os or go totally free and just get linux
