For those guys who updated their Vista with the KB940150 patch without knowing what it does and promptly received a message regarding SL07-001 or other SL07 Activation Exploit being detected, here are a few workarounds :

Got fixes for SL07-001 and Sl07-006 or Activation exploit detection that were not listed here? post them at the comment box below :)

Workarounds / Solutions for SL07-001 Vista Exploit Activation Detection

“In order to continue downloading updates without installing the KB940510, all you have to do is go to windows update, right-click on the KB940510 update and chose HIDE. Then it will no longer show the KB940510 update and you CAN CONTINUE downloading all the other updates.” - Miguel

“After installing Vista KB940510 and BEFORE restarting the computer (You can check if the KB 940510 is installed or not from Install Updates list), search for all “wgaer_m*” files using Advanced Search. Make sure that you select all local drives or everywhere as searched location, and check the option to include non-indexed, hidden, and system files. You will likely see one or two files starting with wgaer_m. Delete all files found and then restart the computer. All detection will be done, and Vista computer will be working as per normal.” – VistaMe

“Skip Windows Vista SP1 for now, it seems that SP1 can detect SL07-006 and SL07-001 activation exploits.”

    Good job. Thank’s

What if you’ve already restarted??? I’m helping a friend out with the uninstall, and just curious if it’ll screw up his setup.

  4. unchecked solution — May 8, 2008 @ 5:12 am

maybe one of the options – edit file securities to DENY All actions to all users (or at least deny execution).
this way it probabaly won’t reappear again under the same name

  5. bluesonicboy — May 10, 2008 @ 2:30 am

Ok kb940510 took out my spare Vista machine!
But firefox was my default browser, so I did the following in Firefox:

File->Open (I Navigated to where I had the paradox crack on a flash drive) OEMTool.exe and save it.

Then use File->Open to copy the other files to that location,(desktop) drag & drop form the file navigation window.

    Then run OEMTool.exe from Tools->Downloads

This would have worked as well from CMD.EXE?

    After the reboot

    File->Open File (navigate to \windows\system32\) cmd.exe
Save it, launch it from Tools->Downloads

At the CMD prompt copy asus.XRM-MS to C:\

Run the below (cribbed from the net) in a BAT file from a flash drive or type it in.

    call slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\asus.xrm-ms
    call slmgr.vbs -ipk 6F2D7-2PCG6-YQQTB-FWK9V-932CC
    call slmgr -ato

    Reboot; Vista is yours again!
    Turned off AutoUpdate and smile!

  6. duracell — May 11, 2008 @ 9:26 pm

I solved it with a .bat file that closes wgaer_m.exe on start up.

  7. y — May 12, 2008 @ 5:08 am

use Unlocker to delete the wgae…. file ….it will delete it on the next boot

  8. hzizka — May 12, 2008 @ 9:37 am

Duracell -> do you mind posting your bat file ? If wgaer_m gets stopped it will automatically lauch again after feel seconds. :(

BTW: Until I tried this workaround I was doing a shutdown without closing wgaer_m and marking its required checkbox. It was bugging me but at least I used the computer several times until I found this workaround.

I also notice that wgaer_m appears to be a warning program, and after marking its checkbox is sets some register param or even a file, which will proceed with the blocking action. Had someone tried to use VMWARE and see what is happening? Was wgaer_m installed within this update or it was always there?

  9. Jeremiah_22 — May 12, 2008 @ 2:51 pm

hey i was wondering if you were going to post the bat or not because i could realy use it

  10. Castru — May 14, 2008 @ 6:26 pm

does anyone tryed the alternetive post by bluesonicboy? does it solve all problems???? I already restart my PC, so don’t have a real solution for this:(

  11. Duracell — May 15, 2008 @ 12:16 am

    Im just using this command
    “pskill wgaer_m.exe”
    It dosen’t restart itself here.

  12. wil — May 18, 2008 @ 1:26 am

hi i have a cracked install as well.
however i have already restarted to my knowledge as i woke up and my computer was at the login screen and when i logged in and came back a few seconds later the box saying i had a bypass activation crack was shown.

do you have any fixes if you have already restarted? and if you have already restarted will trying these other fixes kill my pc?

  13. ILYA — May 18, 2008 @ 6:57 am

    Hi everybody!!!
Yes, I also have uploaded that bloody KB fix and I’ve restarted my PC. So all my attempts to kill the wgaer files were useless. I’ve tried to use pskill but it would restart just in a few seconds. And then I’ve tried to install UNLOCKER utility. It couldn’t delete this file and I’ve tried to rename it with some blah-blah-blah name. And to my suprise wgaer_m didn’t restart. Hurray!!!! After typing this I;m gonna restart my computer to see what happens next!

  14. Janus — May 18, 2008 @ 9:52 am

    1) Download Unlocker Free At – http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
    2) Install and Run
    3) Open Windows Task Manager and navigate to the wgae… file
    4) Right click and open file location
    5) Right click on the wgae file in the new window, go to Unlocker and hit delete.
    6) Reboot and you’re all good

  15. andy — May 18, 2008 @ 4:18 pm

no 14 above works perfectly. Thanks a lot.

  16. Shammy — May 19, 2008 @ 10:13 pm

    Thank you Janus, you’re a savior ^^

  17. Tim — May 20, 2008 @ 8:03 am

If any of you have another operating system on a separate partition of the same PC, deleting the file from the partition not currently in use is also a good method. As a rule, the most foolproof way of removing a file that is locked is from another drive.

  18. Castru — May 20, 2008 @ 5:51 pm

Tks Janus, it really works. I still have the problm in the begginig off every session. Have too await 15sec and cant have a background:( but at least the window is gone!.. If anyone have solutions for keep posting pls:)

  19. Hakeem Youka — May 20, 2008 @ 6:41 pm

For those who have already restarted, just go to C:\Windows\System32\ there you will find wgaer_m.exe (approx. 3MB) and delete (don’t shift + del, just send to recycle bin for future reference). Then promise yourself that you won’t install vista SP1 cos if you do, no crack might save you (and you might repair vista again). And also try not to restart your system unnecessarily (or like never) cos you don’t know when M$ might send the some agent after your a**.

  21. David — May 22, 2008 @ 9:00 pm

Thanks Janus, it worked for me too.

  22. Pete — May 23, 2008 @ 10:06 pm

    OK guys…
Just go to windows\system32, find the wgaer_M.exe, rename it.
vista will let you do this, but won’t let you delete, it says you don’t have permission to do this. Just reboot in safe mode as administrator, then go to windows\system32 and delete the file.
This works even after you have rebooted.

  23. Xzfgiiizmtsath — May 24, 2008 @ 7:40 pm

Aaaah, you sure saved me there, Janus. Thanks a bundle!

  24. MetalGuitar08 — June 3, 2008 @ 4:56 am

What happens if I cannot locate the wgaer_m.exe or any wgaer file on my Vista partition? I have the system and hidden files showing, but a full search of ALL of my partitions yields no results, and manually locating the file proved useless, as it is not in any folder. I have manually searched in Windows\System32, and Windows\SoftwareDistribution folders with no results.

I have already rebooted into XP Pro x64 on the same hard drive, but I have read of other success stories doing this.

  25. DJMack — June 5, 2008 @ 1:03 pm

I have the same issue as MetalGuitar. But I am sure that the update was installed. I cannot perform a system restore because system restore was set to the wrong drive. I only noticed this after this update, so I fixed the drive issue, but there are no restore points before the update. I hope someone finds a foolproof workaround…

  26. BallBall — June 7, 2008 @ 6:56 pm

I have the same issue as 24 and 25. I’ve installed the damn update (and saw the microsoft warning of illegal copy), but can’t find the wgaer file anyware… what should I do?
can I continue to update windows? I hadn’t installed yet vista SP1 because I’m afraid that vista will stop working (or the activation will be lost). Can I continue to install updates and SP1 or should I do something before?

    Thanks!

  27. BallBall — June 7, 2008 @ 6:58 pm

I’ve forgot to mention that I’m using vista ultimate x32.

    Thanks again!

  28. IT-No — June 11, 2008 @ 1:42 am

Thanks Janus, it worked very well

  29. esroh — June 11, 2008 @ 8:01 am

lol i’m having the same prob as 24-26 :S i cannot find the wgaer thing :(

  30. roa — June 12, 2008 @ 2:07 am

Although, I saw the same warning dialog with the others, updated software list doesn’t contain any KB with the number 940510.

Then, I searched “wgaer_m*” but in vain. Couldn’t find it with the sucking “Advanced Search” (and w/ hidden and system files option checked), but one of the posts mentioned Windows/System32, so i checked and found it. Then deleted it with the Unlocker (again Unlocker said it wasnt locked anyway)…

    Now, should I reboot? :)

  31. Bill Gate — June 12, 2008 @ 4:00 am

You cannot delete the wgaer_m.exe directly because there are TWO processes using that file. It’ll restart itself if one of them is killed in the memory.

Just open your Task Manager by right clicking the time. Go to Process tab. Click on ‘Show processes from all users’. Then you should see two instances of wgaer_m.exe running. Kill both processes and you should be able to delete the wgaer_m.exe in System32 folder.

  32. tazzmania — June 13, 2008 @ 10:06 pm

I Did the fix by bluesonicboy and it worked…. that was some time ago and I just did it with fingers crossed and eye’s closed!!! I installed the update by mistake too.

Anyway My machine has been fine since this update had come out.

    Later

PS I have done all the updates since then… NOT SP1 thought…. have fun :-)

  33. Johnny Blaze — June 15, 2008 @ 4:03 pm

If you cannot find the file wgaer_m.exe it may be because you have hidden files on. From explorer, go to Organize > Folder and Search options.

  34. BallBall — June 21, 2008 @ 7:44 pm

I have all files shown (also system files) but the file can’t be found… does it safe to update the system or installing SP1?

  35. Renato — June 22, 2008 @ 2:37 am

Thanks guys… Janus solution (Comment 14) worked perfecly to me. I’m using Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bits SP1.

    Love u guys!

    Goto:
    http://keznews.com/2890_Vista_Loader_2_2_0_OEM_BIOS_Crack_Emulator

or search for “Vista Loader 2.2.0″

Use the instructions from the site above, don’t worry about the key you have used.

“3. run comand prompt with administrator access.
    4. browse into c:\vistaloader eg. cd\vistaloader
    5. type install.cmd [oem]
    6. reboot your machine…and you are activated…

*replace [oem] with asus, hp, acer ,lenovo, sony or dell. eg. if you are using dell, just type install.cmd dell in the command prompt with administrator acess.”

We have restored validation from a computer that had been busted by the wgaer_m.exe update and SP1.

THe download links from the site above may or may not work, but you should be able to find it by doing a search for “Vista Loader 2.2.0″.

    Hope it works for you.

  37. Musique — June 24, 2008 @ 6:45 am

#14 doesn’t seem to work. I located the wager_m.exe in System32 and hit Shift+Del; and surprisingly, windows let me delete it. I restarted the computer and checked the system properties to find out that I had 15 days to re-activate my windows. I’ll try comment #36 and let u guys know if it works or not..

  38. 300zx — June 25, 2008 @ 4:20 pm

Why not just create a bat script and place in Startup folder to blindly rename ‘wgaer_m.exe’ to ‘_wgaer_m.exe’ upon bootup?

  39. Khoas — June 25, 2008 @ 11:20 pm

We have now used Vista Loader 2.2.0 on two computers and it works. After you use it you will notice an addition to the booting process before windows starts. Everything works after using it and it is simple to do.

  40. Pete — June 26, 2008 @ 5:11 am

    Hi

Vista Loader didn;t work for me. It installed etc… and appears on the boot screen but still no activation.

    Any ideas anyone?

  41. Musique — June 26, 2008 @ 8:19 am

#36 did not worked either. I had 10 days to activate my vista Then I came across this torrent on the piratebay http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4139605/Windows_Vista_SP1_Activation_2008-w00tageman. Its the simplest activation I’ve ever done. It will get rid of SL07-001 or other activation errors caused by installing SP1 in vista. Heres the nfo from the torrent:

NEW!!! BOOTLOADER, BUT WITH NO TEXT ON STARTUP!

loveya 7. y; loveya 14. Janus… It worked like a charm. Got my vista back just by using unlocker deleting it on the next boot… you rock! :) have a great day!

  46. HiThere — July 14, 2008 @ 8:00 pm

The Activation Exploit box poped up only once when my system had reboot. (I got an SL07-004, which seems to be rare…)

Before closing it (by ticking “I understand this notice may only appear once” before), I searched for wgaer (w all ticked etc..):
Same issue as 24-26: couldn’t find wgaer NOWHERE.
Also, I can’t see any process, run by anyone with the name wgaer

Checked in Windows Update Panel: KB940510 was succesfully installed….

The stopper still works (30d graceperiod), even after rebooting. The pop-up box never reappeared.

    Anyone can help ?

  47. geoker — November 19, 2008 @ 3:34 pm

Janus’ idea of using the unlocker works great to my machine! It was simply awesome! Thnx man!

  48. Dark Disciple — January 8, 2009 @ 4:04 pm

Just uninstall KB940510 in the installed updates section and then reinstall or rerun your Vista cracking utility/prog. you used before everything went wrong, the window popped up for me saying I had a bogus activation but it never deactivated me, I even rebooted so many damn times I lost count when I had it installed and nothing happened, and i’m still running the same installation of vista, i’m fully activated and fully updated, just remove KB940510 in the installed updates section and you are good!!

Warez-BB.org is a good place to go if you want more support on this issue, thanks for reading all!!!

Can someone please confirm that my friend can breathe easier now?

My friend installed that update and got the dreaded message. So, she downloaded Unlocker as per instructed in post #14 but it displayed a small icon in the system tray, no large window. Is that normal? Nevertheless, she saw the process that was referenced in Task Manager and deleted it then rebooted. She didn’t get a message after reboot. Is everything okay?

  50. Dark Disciple — January 10, 2009 @ 1:23 pm

I just told you, uninstall the damn update, I don’t get MS certified for nothing in vista and vista servers. Read the damn messages and note in your comment that none of them work instead of just saying 14 don’t work, common sense. Uninstall the update and ur fixed, then rerun the crack program! Fix. Sometimes most people that have dells don’t need to worry about this update, it won’t bother the system! Enjoy

  51. Try Again — January 13, 2009 @ 2:51 pm

  54. joey — April 5, 2009 @ 10:35 pm

it’s sad to see all these idiots that rely on others who actually know what they’re doing to cheat the system. some of you should probably stop whinging and whining. remember you’re the one’s breaking the law and ripping off windows (although they are stupendously greedy anyway), if you don’t know how to do it, maybe you should simply go to the store and get a valid copy of windows.
