Sorry Guys. During Blizzard’s World Wide Invitation (Paris), Rob Pardo, Blizzard’s Game Design EVP said that they we’re only about 1/3rd through polishing the game cinematics and campaign and the best they can give at the end of this year is an impressive presentation on how Starcraft 2 is “nearly finished” which simply means – “Starcraft 2 Release Date : Not 2008″

So those who are expecting Starcraft 2 to be released on December 3, 2008 should think of another gift for themselves. Oh and online stores should be adjusting their Starcraft 2 release date schedules for those who pre-ordered.

I think it might be a little hasty to make this claim. The source from where this post comes from is taking a quote out of context from a joystiq.com article. In it, Rob only says that the single player campaign is 1/3 done, not the whole game, and notes that most of what is left is tweaking. Also, Bestbuy AND Circuit City have now added Dec 3 as the release date, which, if they did not have reliable information, would be quite a poor business decision on their part. I’m not saying Dec 3 is the date, but no reason to get all gloomy just yet. Another conference day awaits.

When we forget what has happened in the past, we are doomed to repeat it.

Meaning, there is a good solid possibility that this game will not be released in December. Look at what happened with BC, Dec was the target, websites were pre-selling the game for Dec. When did it get released?

Given Blizz’s track record, I would have to say end of January, beginning of February. And it wouldn’t surprise me if it was actually released after WotLK,

  4. Ephraigm — July 3, 2008 @ 5:27 am

oki boys dont need to have a dick shuved up ur asses about this… long as its being made… its sall good

  5. AzraeL — July 4, 2008 @ 10:21 am

Well, after working @ game stop for a better part of a year I have to say that this doesn’t surprise me @ all. Even though Best Buy and CC have added Dec. 3rd to thier lists it doesn’t mean anything because that artificial date was given to them from the same people who gave it to Gamestop. I’ll bet we can expect to wait a better part of a year for this title.

  6. jbird — July 6, 2008 @ 9:52 pm

the release date depends on how much they have done in december and if they are mostly done then, then i agree with Shado.

  7. thinnlingz — July 8, 2008 @ 12:46 pm

my greatest fear is that I will die before the game is released. Not that I have any terminal disease or anything, but people die for tons of reasons all the time. And who is to say I won’t pass from this world before playing SC2!!

  8. Whitee — July 8, 2008 @ 11:46 pm

I agree with Ephraigm he has very insightful info that we should all draw from in future squabbles with the living and the dead

  11. not a noob — July 25, 2008 @ 5:46 am

No though i’m amazed by how pathethically desperate you are by implying “my greatest fear is that i’ll die before the game is released..” And stfu adamov, when the game is only 1/3 finished how do you expect to be released on holiday schedule without sucking? Why brag/lie about something that is simply not the truth? Enough said you f^cken nubsauces,

  13. darck_smith — July 29, 2008 @ 9:53 pm

well they said that they had finished 1/3 of the Campain but how long did this took them ?? who know maybe 1 month or 6 month (i certenly hop only 1 month) if its only 1 month this mean 3 month for each Race hey come on would’nt this be great

ps: sry for the bad english im frome quebec i usualy speak french ;)

  14. watersports — July 30, 2008 @ 1:24 pm

The map editors that will come wiht Starcraft 2 is probably very strong alowing the campaign maker people to make campaigns faster. Which brings us to a possibility of story expansion being released sooner (but with the new units and re-balancing of races just slowing down the development of new expansions)

of course expansions only gets released after the core game gets an acceptable level of balance.

sigh… looking forward to Red Alert 3 vs Starcraft 2

Just because gamestop and best buy say a release date, it doesnt mean shit. What happens when theyre wrong about a release date? They go out of business? No. Their release date is pure speculation based on other previous games release dates, which doesn’t apply to Blizzard and their philosophy “when we’re ready, then we release it”.

  23. STARCRAFTkid — August 19, 2008 @ 3:31 am

I am just excited for the game. I don’t play very many computer games or even console…except original NES. But i do play star craft…hopefully it will come out Dec. 3rd.

  24. wker123456 — August 19, 2008 @ 8:08 pm

    OMG
if you don’t play lots of games, how’d you get to know
starcraft, moron I bet you ONLY play starcraft,

  25. Gunsligned — August 19, 2008 @ 8:45 pm

OMFG. I hope SC2 is released on Dec 3rd. But according to the people I don’t think that would happen. Anyways If Starcraft II is gonna be one of those shitty game that were rushed (not hopin this would happen) I will DESTROY BLIZZARD

  26. Feaster — August 19, 2008 @ 11:47 pm

    hmmm
I would not worry much about the release date, and I would worry a lot more about them implementing suck heroes that f**k up the game like in WC3, where the only thing worth playing is DotA.
If not, try playing in Bnet, where 99% are orcs rushing you with the blademaster, pshh
About release, I think they normally wrap up the game almost two months before release, to go gold and prepare all launch materials and events.
So if by September they do not come out and say the game is basically done, no game until 2009.

And to think that I have checked the release date daily for 4 months now… cant wait either, at least it will be well worth the wait.

  27. Kindbudz — August 20, 2008 @ 8:07 am

LEARN TO TYPE AND SPEAK ENGLISH YOU FUCKING MORONS. THIS GAME WILL NOT BE OUT TILL MID YEAR 2009!

  28. Feaster — August 20, 2008 @ 7:17 pm

    About 27 (Kindbudz)
Well, now that is a well documented, polite, and lower caps message if we ever saw one.
And the comment about English, well, go read up a book on punctuation and you may discover there is something called a “coma”.

  29. visom — August 21, 2008 @ 5:36 am

    @ 27 (Kindbudz)

Since your entire first sentence is in upper case signifying that you’re shouting, then you should consider replacing your period with an exclamation mark.

  30. critical — August 21, 2008 @ 2:07 pm

Gawd. Do we have to listen to another one of these exchanges?

  31. Justin — August 23, 2008 @ 8:09 am

lol wow…like really, work on the damn game so we can play it. they give us a cinematic and get us all hyped up and your going to release 2 years later?fuck that shit

  32. KobK — August 25, 2008 @ 8:44 pm

@ Feaster: Just because you never got used to heroes and completely suck balls at wc3 and have the delusion that DoTA is actually fun doesn’t mean blizz will f^ck up starcraft 2. I’ve played all the crafts (WoW does not count), and have only had my mind blown every time. There is no reason whatsoever to think differently about SC2. And you’re complaining that a level 1 blademaster is imbalanced?? Wow dude, please learn more about the game. I play every game type, and in solo orc > undead; but when the orc goes blademaster instead of far seer I laugh at their attempts to kill acolytes and win easily. The only real gay shit with blademasters is in 4v4 vs 4 orcs, they all tower their base, massing bats, getting lightning orbs and basically making the game 30 minutes longer than it needs to be.

  33. grl_lvn_sc — August 28, 2008 @ 3:08 am

hey dark templar – my sentiments exactly!!!

we are getting new machines this week (waiting on parts today!!) in order to have specs above and beyond the sc2 needs.

I’m very excited about this release as SC is my favorite game, still after all these years. But if not by Christmas, then surely before my birthday in March.

  34. Dark Templar — August 30, 2008 @ 1:07 am

Hi grl_lvn_sc I do certainly hope you (and I) will be playing it by your birthday. Hopefully the peeps at Blizzard will give us some indication at the upcoming Blizzcon in October. I hope you are enjoying your new machines. Will have to dust off my old SC and Broodwars and start revising those SC tactics/ strategies.

Early this year I attended a VGL concert, there tommy tallarico announced in the middle of the concert that the next song was made for a game that was going to be released next year (2009).
The game was StarCraft 2, so i dont really think there will be a StarCraft 2 song.

  37. QuantumPete — September 3, 2008 @ 12:21 am

@Feaster – You mean “comma” – A coma is a “state of unconsciousness from which person cannot be aroused by external stimuli.”

    QuantumPete

  38. Feaster — September 3, 2008 @ 12:42 am

@37 Sure did, hehe, I always get that and “summa” wrong.
English is not my first language, and we do not double up consonants, so it is quite a challenge to get them all right.

Still no news on release date, or anything really, not even mentioned at the Blizzard news for about a month now. =(

Good thing I have the PS3 to keep me entertained.
BTW, what are you guys playing until SC2 comes out?

  41. Dark Templar — September 5, 2008 @ 9:26 pm

MGS4 Guns of the Patriots & COD4 to fill the time; different genre but entertaining nevertheless. Mass Effect on PC is also quite alright. Soundtrack for SC2 – they have a tall order to fulfill.

  45. chrislz — September 16, 2008 @ 1:46 pm

lol, it sounds like no one here has a real clue as to when its gonna come out. haha, very entertaining though, to stumble across a bunch of bickering over how to spell “comma” and the blademasters balance in war3, when all i did was punch “starcraft 2 release date” into google. hehe you guys are funny.

I imagine you took the “special” bus to school up until Grade 6 (and I’m being generous here) when you dropped out because your brains hurt too much. It only took me a glance at a small number of posts to realize that. My apologies to those who actually wrote some intelligent remarks because I had to skip over a lot of crap to get through this. (and still didn’t get my answer of a release date) GET LIVES !!!!!

And to those of you that are willing to kill and destroy and shit or whatever your sick fantasies are – SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP. Your current worth to society is close to nothing.

  51. SamNYC — September 25, 2008 @ 4:36 am

    Hmmmm,

Well if you are so smart, please give us all the gift of your endless wisdom. Why don’t you tell us when the release date is? This should me an easy problem for a person of your vast intellect.

  52. SamNYC — September 25, 2008 @ 4:39 am

That’s should be, not should me. It must be a side effect of the fumes from the “special” bus.

  53. Kk)StarFox(kK — September 26, 2008 @ 9:05 am

I used to hold tournaments for a selected few people (around 15-20), the fee to get in is $2.5K, all tournaments were winner take all. Some times there were side tournaments for 5vs5, but they didn’t cost so much to play only $500 for that one. I only held them once every 4 months thought. I don’t even know if I am any good now lol, it’s been 3-4 years since I last played :p

  54. brandonh1234567 — September 27, 2008 @ 1:09 pm

yeah im pretty sure all the release dates are true because now that they have a commercial out for sc2 from blizzard saying the third and back up from gamestop emplyees i have asked i really think it will be launched in december and if not i fucking hate u blizzard suck a pair of hairry nuts :)

  56. Wade from Chattanooga — October 12, 2008 @ 1:01 am

One thing to point out is that they’ll only be sending SC2 out with the Terran campaign and that the other two races campaigns will be worked on later. Could it be that by almost 1/3 done means almost 1/1 done with Terran?

  57. true release date — October 16, 2008 @ 3:35 am

Gamestop’s new release date for starcraft 2 IS JUNE 2009, AS OF TODAY!!!! Another 8 months yes, but that should also imply that this game is going to be really badass.

  58. fuck you — October 16, 2008 @ 5:52 pm

FUCK YOU BLIZZARD! I HOPEYOU DIE IN HELL!

  59. Ben — October 17, 2008 @ 1:52 am

See, the thing is, just about all of Blizzard’s games are badass, but they are also way off of their release dates. I was supposed to be getting StarCraft Ghost three Christmas’s ago, then two, then the project was scrapped, and now the release dates for SC2 have just been pushed further and further back. Why doesn’t Blizzard set a really far off release date for their games, like if there first prediction date had been December first, 2010, just in time for Christmas, then they could have all the time they need and give a welcome surprise if it is done early!
I heard a rumor that you can get a Beta Test Version if you go to Blizzcon.

  60. lol@amazed — October 23, 2008 @ 4:23 am

just so ya know… there are no nerve endings in the brain.
    they cant “hurt”.

why else do you think they do brain surgery without putting the patient to sleep?
i’ll tell you right now that its not due to anesthetics.

  61. Neotrilix — October 26, 2008 @ 6:44 pm

I don’t really think the release date matters. If Blizzard wants to go by their policy of “when we’re ready, we’ll produce it” thats fine n dandy. When they’re ready, that means that they’re taking time to make sure game-play, graphics, and etc. are at full potential when it comes out. So if the release date is pushed back, oh well. I look forward to buying this game as soon as it hits the shelves.

  62. pfft, bring on d3 — October 28, 2008 @ 5:10 am

LOL. It’s Blizzard. Dont expect any quick releases.

  64. Ethan Caine — November 2, 2008 @ 7:30 am

Blizzard has been such assholes to us by making us wait this long for Star Craft 2…not to mention the countless times they have lied to us about release dates…that I don’t really care about this game anymore.

  65. JoshRas — November 5, 2008 @ 3:15 am

I would agree with all of you… Including Ethan, the fact of the matter is that I saw the preview for SC2 over 2 years ago… 2 years!!!! That’s like having a movie preview the whole time it is being filmed. 1.) Why show the preview to a game that is not going to be out for 3 or 4 years anyway? and 2.) Blizzard has never lied about a release date… everyone else has lied about the release date. But Blizz is letting them get away with that too. :*(

  66. James_Raynor — November 7, 2008 @ 4:40 am

Look, I hate to say it but if they need time to finish this game I say give them the time… I have been waiting ten years for this game and I want it to be perfect!!!!

  67. James_Raynor — November 7, 2008 @ 4:48 am

Oh ya!!! Somebody call for an exterminator?

  68. Crazy — November 8, 2008 @ 3:56 am

this game will be perfect, if it has taken them this long to make it, then it has to be perfect. XD

  69. Kk)StarFox(kK — November 8, 2008 @ 7:24 am

I think they will be bringing out 2 expansions for sc2 one for each race campaign(shit I can’t spell, lol), so the dec 3rd ish release still might happen but only for one race for single player

  70. Anti-bob — November 8, 2008 @ 9:23 am

As long as its not a let down like SC Ghost, Im good with anything they say(just try to make it between the next few years at least).

Eh, any1 know how to get that new patch for the Brood War? My comp wont recognize it for somer reason?

  71. Ahrimansiah — November 8, 2008 @ 4:11 pm

what ppl use ur brain they didnt work only on sc2 all this years!!! this asshole blizzard want to earn money as much as they can and they were makeing Diablo3 and WOTLK in same time! this release is getting to long they need to focus on sc2 and finish it first then others instead all together,
im agree with (Ethan Caine)i dont give a shit when it release anymore… blizzard dont care about fans,

  72. Ahrimansiah — November 8, 2008 @ 4:13 pm

they just wana put it in right time for a maximum rate of money to earn, screw blizzard!

  73. balakoth — November 9, 2008 @ 11:21 pm

Post 71. And others like it. You guys are idiots.. Just outright idiots. Im sorry but the WHOLE company doesnt work on a game, they have divisions. Those who are working on Diablo have no interaction with Starcraft in the least.

Half of you knit wits need to learn about game development, and when you design a new game engine, graphics engine and turn an old concept into a new concept; Guess what.. Games take years to develop.

Maybe by the time they release it half of you will have grown up, because I Dont want to see you online.

  74. DreGhozt — November 11, 2008 @ 10:58 pm

I am in agreement with balakoth, it is true that they have different division for all the games they are working on. They had a division for the new WoW expansion, they had one for the new 007 game, they have one for D3, they have one for sc2, and they have a couple of more divisions for some other games. And so what if they do bring out sc2 at christmas time to make more money, look how it was for ps2 and ps3, they made mad money from that, and also I think guitar hero world tour (band kit) (don’t know about anyone else but I haven’t seen any that can stay in stores, mostly cus they limit the stores to 2-4 band kits) is waiting for christmas time to make more money.

Anyways I gotta get back to work.

    Laterz.

  75. HaveSomeSense — November 13, 2008 @ 3:25 am

of course blizzard’s first priority is to make money. That’s the case for any corporation. One thing to consider is that WOW has made, and continues to make them lots of it, and when SC2 comes out, it’s going to slow WOW down a lot (they’ve said it themselves). So why would they do that before WotLK has a chance to make them more revenue? Of course they’re going to give it a year. Come on guys, that should be your first clue…

  76. Strikered — November 14, 2008 @ 12:54 am

Okay, So Ive been waiting for this game for a while as well and I just checked BB’s website and they state it wont be released till 2/28/2009…..Looks like they want to still make their money from WoW. Im a little dissapointed, but then again, I bought the original game back in 97′ so another 3 months dont really matter.

  77. You all are losers — November 15, 2008 @ 1:34 am

I can’t believe all you pathetic losers… This is just a freakin game. How about getting lives, a girlfirend (or boyfriend for you females), and just get on with life. When it comes out, it’ll comes out. Crying, complaining, and crapping your pants won’t make it come out any quicker. If you are in such a rush for it, then how about buying out thier stock and run the company how you see it!!! LOSERS!!!

  78. "Says Mr77"...(Anti-bob) — November 15, 2008 @ 7:45 am

Yo. If we are losers, then why bother going to these sites than eh? Besides, even though the game is 10 years old, we dont play or complain about the game just for “the game” (though i do agree that those who do should try to either be good at it or get a better life). There are many old stories and good memories mixed with it.

  79. Anti-bob — November 15, 2008 @ 11:24 am

plz note i said 78 not 77 for all u who are confused.

  80. The Truth Teller — November 16, 2008 @ 8:15 am

You are all are a bunch of fucking losers, likes like the other guy says. Sit there at home in your tidy whites with yellow stains on it whining how long it takes for another game to come out. He is right, get a girlfriend and a life and you won’t have to worry so much about the stupid release date, maybe even spend less time jerking off to free porn sites sitting in your mamas basement. Bunch of jokesters..lol

  81. Oblivian — November 17, 2008 @ 7:49 pm

Of course we’re excited over the new game! I’ve got plenty of living to do outhere, in the real world, and I’m still aching for SC2.. it made me feel old, realizing that at 20 I’ve spent 7 or 8 of my years waiting for the new game.
I even sent hatemail to Blizzard when SC Ghost wasn’t going to be for computer.. *shrugs*..

If you have nothing better to do with your life than get online, read through all these comments and tell other people what loosers they are.. what does that say about you? Seriously, you need to get friends enough strongminded to tell you that it’s stupid being an idiot for the sake of being an idiot. (*complementary eyeroll*)

Even if it takes another year for SC2 to get out.. *shudder*.. it’ll be worth it. How much does it matter if they set the releasedate in order to make money? The game will be great, and they’ll make a fortune no matter what time of year they release it – but us fans will get our treat, we’ll get the game.

So for crying out loud, who cares about the release date?

  82. Oblivian — November 17, 2008 @ 7:55 pm

Oh yeah.. playing meanwhile to entertain myself: SC + Broodwars, Red Alert 3, DarkStar One and will be playing the latest NeedForSpeed game when it’s fineally released.

By golly.. I still have time for a life! The day holds too many hours.

  83. Anti-bob — November 18, 2008 @ 11:01 am

Well, in that case… Power to the Sister who speaks the truth in all acounts. :)

  86. The Truth Teller — November 19, 2008 @ 11:22 am

A girl? Whoa. U must be a butterface or something, big fat glasses, pony tails and zits on your face? lol. The only reason I read some of these posts is bcs I played SC ages ago and heard SC2 is coming out and was wondering about the release date, strategy games are great, especially the good ones, just not something to be obsessed about and LOOK forward to, just something to play around with WHENEVER it does come out. The link to all these msgs came up at the top of google search…Then I noticed how many people were obsessing about it like a virgin about having sex for the first time, quiet amusing I may say, especially for a girl. So I admit, I wasted about 15 mins reading these. Guilty as charged! Now even replying to it. I hope you hate mail to Blizzard gets answered, maybe they send you a 20% off coupon in the mail or something if they care about customer satisfaction or get it released sooner. On the other hand it’ll probably get caught by their spam filter and erased like thousands others. You never know. But good luck spending your teenage years looking forward to a COMPUTER GAME! Lol.

  87. The Truth Teller — November 19, 2008 @ 11:26 am

P.S. OBLIBIAN, Maybe if you get a job, a boyfriend (or a girlfriend) and visit Ambiance (the sex toy store, for those of you who don’t know) and stack on on AA batteries the day won’t have as many hours for RA3, Broodwars or Darkone, lol. KEEP IT REAL!

  88. Truth teller is pretty fucking retarded — November 19, 2008 @ 1:15 pm

Why the hell are you even replying to this? It seems like you have no life, poking fun at random people on a simple message board.

    Anyways, I’m really excited for SC2. =P

  89. Jacob — November 19, 2008 @ 1:51 pm

dam, i was really hoping that for a Christmas present… but guess not

  90. Oblivian — November 19, 2008 @ 8:15 pm

Truth Teller.. 1, learn to read/spell. Oblivian. Seeee?

    2. Not that this is about me, but you try to be a newly graduated carmechanic in todays world and get a job quickly. I work out five times/week, and bet my abs are way better than yours.
Why would I waste my time on a boyfriend?
And no, we don’t have that sex toy shop here in Sweden. Besides, how is a sextoy “keeping it real”?..

You’re a moron who needs to get over yourself instead of prooving (yes, I take it as proof) your undergrown manhood by telling others how useless they are and that they need lives. I’m sorry you couldn’t afford the Hummer H2 instead, but you take what you have, right? (.. which doesn’t seem to be much in your case).

Noone inhere has said they sit around on their asses and do nothing but cry, moan and groan about SC2 not coming out yet – it’s the INTERNET dude, we’ve all just expressed that we’re (some more, some less) unhappy about it taking such time. I’m personally very happy to wait for it, anything worth my energy is also just that – worth waiting for.

I could keep this up, but it’s not worth the energy.

  91. The Truth Teller — November 20, 2008 @ 1:22 am

Work out 5 times a week? Let me guess, the treadmill? As far as Hummer H2, don’t need one, got an ‘08 Escalade EXT which is much better than that short bus. I am not trying to prove anything, just rather amusing myself with floosies like yourself. Keep this going!

  92. Varsae — November 20, 2008 @ 2:44 am

Truth Teller, the fact that your actually looking forward to battling some one on a massage board kind of proves Oblivian right in the fact that your an immature little boy who has no life other then his computer. Your father who probably spoils you rotten owns that shiny ‘08 Escalade because given your level of intelligence, you would have probably wrapped it around a tree at this point.

  93. DreGhozt — November 20, 2008 @ 6:00 am

    Mmmmm sex toys

  94. Feaster — November 20, 2008 @ 7:06 am

Oblivian> not worth it to get worked up about idiots…, you do not need bother replying to idiocies, we will not think any less of you.

Truth Teller> really, just go away, do not be any more pathetic by keeping up the rubbish posts

So basically SC2 has been split into three releases, but are the two later ones going to be just expansions a la Brood Wars?
And, is at least the first installment going to be released before Christmas?

I sadly think it will not, because I heard they are now in the process of hiring voice actors for the campaign characters. Unless they have the whole thing wrapped up and the last touches are the voices it is gonna take a while.

    Cheers

  95. The Truth Teller — November 20, 2008 @ 12:59 pm

Actually own my own business and are providing jobs for both my parents. I find this rather amusing, that’s all. And I am not battling, merely having some fun with a bunch of nerds who are obsessed with a computer game that isn’t going to be out for months and get their hard-ons (or nipples all twisted) talking about how great something is going to be a year before it is even released and bitching and whining that it hasn’t been already.

To VARSAE: If you are so sophisticated yourself what exactly are you doing posting on here and obviously spending enough time reading these posts? Don’t YOU have a life and better things to attend to?

  96. Kk)StarFox(kK — November 20, 2008 @ 1:14 pm

SC2 will be released into 3 sections, 1st one will be the Terran campaign, then Zerg, then Protoss or visversa. They want to try and make the campaign as fun as possible, and to have a better story line then SC/BW.

So basicly they just dont want to cram all 3 campaigns into one DVD, if they did that then they wouldn’t be able to have this long epic campaign to go through.

Don’t know about anyone else but I like going online and also doing the campaigns, they are fun too =]

  97. starcrafter...o.o — November 21, 2008 @ 11:58 am

Starcraft 2 better come out in December or ima pissed pissed off…they have said December 2 or 3 and now move back another half year?!? It’s been moved back a YEAR already

  98. anti-bob — November 22, 2008 @ 9:14 am

Soz to make the call starcrafter but they never “really” said anything, which is quite a downer for all these people in this world. But the fighting over a game really has to stop or at least get to friendly levels.

“I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig, you get dirty; and besides, the pig likes it.” ~ George Bernard

  99. anti-bob — November 22, 2008 @ 9:19 am

Dont take the quote as a personal attack, i just find it funny.

  100. Oblivian — November 24, 2008 @ 4:58 am

Truth Teller: Good for you. I hope your company is doing well and that you’re not affected by this financial crash. Honestly.
What bugs me is the plattitude your posts are reeking with, but I agree. Not battling, just being bored enough.
And no, not treadmill. I can’t stand moving like that and not getting anywhere. I work out with HipHopAbs, and wristweights which I’ll be getting more of this christmas. Over the past year I’ve spent months at a gym pumping weights, I spent another couple months swimming 2 km/4 times a week, another month biking 10 km a few times/week. I guess I’m a sucker for variation.

Oh? Did you expect me to bite at you? Even if you may not feel like it, I see no reason to be anything but mature. Why? I’m not raised badly enough to pick fights with people who’re aiming for them.. *wink*.. so if you’re going to even try and insult me (you’ll fail, be sure) please give it your best shot and you might get me to chuckle.
If not, have a pleasant day and I hope you’ll realize how pointless it is acting like you do on here.

People who think of their lives as ruined because the releasedate has been moved another year have an equally big need to get over themselves, get their asses off that chair and go out into the real world. I promise, it doesn’t bite harder than you can handle.

    //O.

Blizzard has been unusually uncommunicative about release and progress of anything non WoW.

They have totally been absorbed by WoW success and Vivendi (yuck).

Oblivian > 2k swim 4 times a week, damm, that is my swim work out, and that is a lot. But swimming is my main sport ^^
I imagine all of this is indoors, being nordic and all.

BTW, are you all going to play the same races from SC 1? Or going to try to swap over with the new SC?
I played all 3, I was best with Zerg, liked Terran best but sucked with them, and the only thing I liked about Protoss was the carriers, and warps with beetles.

    Laters.

Finally, some wise words Oblivion. A woman with passion for workout and some brains, that’s rare nowadays! I applaud you! At least you agreed with me about the people who are obsessed with the release date, lol.

All that work out, must be in great shape and live in Sweden. Sounds HOT. Send me a pic, maybe we go on a date! Haha

  105. Oblivian — November 25, 2008 @ 5:34 am

Feaster: Yeah well my yearcard for that place expired, thus now working out in my livingroom. It’s winter, homeworkout ROCKS! WE HAVE SNOW!
    Yes all indoors.

I love zerg (zerglings are SOOOO cute. Yes I’m strange, but I always am that) so that’s what I’m waiting for the most. I’ll not play the game until it’s released in entirety, and I own all three parts ^^..

The Truth Teller: For someone running a company you sure have a hard time reading. OblviAn, not ObliviOn. There is a difference.
*bows to the applause* I’ve also got the temperament of a werewolf, it evens out :P ..
I agree on people who obsess over anything but staying alive ^^

And.. no.. :P .. not interested on picking anyone up on a forum like this.. XD..

Truth Teller: Honestly you are full of $hit! Be honest. However, you are a great Shit talker somewhat like OBAMA. I believe that to be a great virtue for those who need that kind of help.

I have been waiting for SC2 as long as anyone has, and there is no need to cry guys/gals.. Truth Teller is telling the truth on that account. Get out there and do something. GET A JOB. Quit “moochin” off of your parents.

  108. The Truth Teller — November 26, 2008 @ 11:35 am

To “”"OBLIVIAN”"” – I quote: “OblviAn, not ObliviOn. There is a difference.” Looks like your just as shitty of a speller as I am, actually worse if you can’t spell YOUR OWN NAME. But then again, maybe just a quick typer and don’t pay THAT much attention to small mistypes in forums like this.

You probably look like a werewolf, I wouldn’t want to pick you up anyways, probably run the hell away if I ran into you, haha. So don’t get your panties all wet little girl. Goodnight.

  116. Amontoya — December 2, 2008 @ 1:57 pm

They don’t know a date because of the amount of loyal blizzard gamers out there who have an account playing wow. I think they would lose a great number of monthly payments if sc2 came out.

solution is to quit wow for good. they are maximizing the money, what corporation doesn’t? quit wow = expediting sc2.

  117. ItNOTHere — December 3, 2008 @ 8:15 am

hey peoples it’s almost december 3rd no sign of sc2 is please stop your whining and wait alittle longer, besides, i think t hat the original starcraft looks better the pictures of sc2 look too, how should i say, too, too…..showy..i dunno. It looks all so shiny and 3d that just makes it look lame. Thats what i think, i rememebr a whiles ago i saw the slogan of sc2 dunno if they changed it, but it was called “it’s about time” well it’s not here yet so we can just wait alittle longer it’s not a big deal.

  118. ? — December 3, 2008 @ 8:38 am

I don’t know what your talking about the new graphics are great and the new the buildings are awsome you should download the movies off blizzard b4 you talk crap about the graphics and starcraft 2 is going to own all the pc games that are out right know until diablo 3.

  119. Anti-bob — December 3, 2008 @ 10:19 am

Graphics are good as they should be but some aspects from all you guys and gals are right. Some things do look worse than before because of the graphics, but then again everything is much cooler cause of it. The one thing i worry about SC2 is that like Kevin said on GT-TV, SC2 being too much like a reanimated SC(Brood-Original). Then again, no1 likes Kevin about that either…

  120. zForeman — December 4, 2008 @ 10:16 pm

    Its Dec 4th
    No SC2
HAHAHAHAHAHA to all the people who were sitting around the computer jerking it wile reading the false information about SC2 being released in Dec 3rd!!!!

    Come on now people
    Its called common sense
    I mean really
They barely have ANYTHING at all for the Zerg race on there website
And you guys actually thought it was going to be coming out December 3 2008?
    lol

I’m guessing sometime in March 2009
    Maybe even the next month!

Not a biggy to me though

It is just a game people

Life WILL go on if you don’t get StarCraft 2 in December of 2008

So here i am reading all this crap, and I got halfway before deciding it was pointless… read the last one and starting laughing…

    I mean honestly, I have been keeping semi-track of SC2 and it’s nowhere near done… trust me… 1/3 was a correct speculation, now it’s about 3/5…. YAY!

  124. anti-bob — December 6, 2008 @ 6:51 am

    Lqtm…

  125. zForeman — December 7, 2008 @ 5:25 pm

    To Anti-Bob:
I have and did read everything about the rumors of SC2 being released in 12/3/08
And I just laughed at it
Because if that were the case, then blizzard would have announced it at least a month before 12/3/08
    Which they obviously didn’t.

The way I will be able to tell when SC2 is near to hitting the shelf’s is by going to the starcraft2.com FAQ’s

They have a lot of answer’s to there questions that say
“we’ll let you know closer to the release date”
    Like the system requirements
    What B-net will be like
    Those kinds of things

So when those questions start getting answered more specifically
    That’s when you know…
That when you can start getting really excited!!!

But until something like that happens
Everyone needs to just shut there trap about the damn release date of SC2

    Its honestly pathetic

And I mean what difference does it make?
Whether we know the release date or not…

What if blizzard announced tomorrow that SC2 was coming out 8/25/09

Would it make any difference if you knew the release date and had to wait and didn’t know the release date and still had to wait anyways?

    Of cores not!

Cause you still have to wait for the fucking game to come out no matter what

Whether you know the date or not

So take your head out of you vaginal and exit your thumbs from your asses

Because I’m getting really tired of the stupidity of the vast majority of people when it comes to this subject!!!

    -Zach

    P.S. Damn, I just wrote a lot!!!

  126. rumpoy3 — December 9, 2008 @ 1:02 am

lolz me and my freiend were discussing this the other day and we so far they got 1/3 or so done id say itll come out in about 2036. lolz cuz this has been talked about for like 10 years. its all because of WOW, its there biggest seller. its a good game but i like starcraft better. Besides they said there working on equilizing the races.

  128. Cake — December 9, 2008 @ 11:27 am

hmm.. indeed 2082 is a great year for PC gaming

    kidding :p

the longer it stays in the over, the better. I don’t think Blizzard will pull another SC:Ghost stunt on us this time since the scenario win SC2 is different from Ghost

  129. zForeman — December 9, 2008 @ 12:36 pm

Why would is matter if you knew me?
    I honestly don’t get it…

Is that supposed to be like a threat or something?

    And rest assure
There not gonna cancel this game

If they did anything like that then the world would burn into ashes…

Hardcore SC gamers (such as myself) would seriously start rioting!
    XD

And besides, they’ve put way way to much money, time, and effort into this game to just say “oh hey I think were gonna cancel StarCraft2″

  130. Cake — December 9, 2008 @ 2:41 pm

but hey a lot of Starcraft progamers are still undecided on as to play professional SC2 or stick to Starcraft. would probably depend if SC2 would still have the same metagames that are present in Starcraft.

insted im happy its still coming out. better later then never right?

  144. Feaster — December 16, 2008 @ 6:05 pm

    @ Dreghozt
You are both ignorant and rude, to say the least.
Them holding on to your money while not giving you the service or product is detrimental to your interests and very beneficial to theirs.
Do not want to go into a finance tirade, but, basically money devalues over time and generates interests.
So the owner of the money loses over time (you) and the holder of the money (them) accrues interests over time.
While your loss can be considered negligible (irrelevant, small) their benefit is not.
If money renders an interest of 5% a year over a price tag of 50$ that means that by holding to your money for half a year they have made $2.5 Now consider that instead of just your money they have been holding the money of 50 thousand or 100 thousand customers $2.5 x 100,000 then they have made $250,000
And now the kicker, how likely are you to prepay for a game a year in advance? Not much…
But if they tell you it is only a few months away…
and then extend the release, once and again, by press releases or innuendos
Basically a game expected to sell 15 million copies could generate for retailers over a year and a half of holding on to your prepays the nifty sum of: $3.75 x 15,000,000 = $56.25 million

You do not want it? I will take it.

And the splitting of the game will likely end in you paying
    $50 Terran + $35 Zerg + $35 Protoss = $120 Starcraft II
No problem at all right, compared to the initial $59 tag.

And third, I hear rumors that Battlenet may become a subscription service…

And the lack of updates to the Starcraft page, specially a progress estimate, like 87% done, is just upsetting.

Honestly, I do not think they are the Blizzard of Blackstone, Warcraft I, Diablo I, and Starcraft I.
They are now a part of Vivendi, and I very much feel the change in their modus operandi. To my great loss.

I have been waiting for this game for years, but if it ends up having a combined price tag of around $120, and I have to pay out $15 a month for Bnet, I will not buy it.
Not because this amount of money is significant for me, but because it will signal the absolute fall of the original Blizzard’s dedication to customer satisfaction over additional revenue.

We will see, I would love nothing more than to get a great SCII, at a reasonable charge, with no recurring expense.

    En Taro Adun.

Excellent post indeed. I never thought about it like that. And I agree about the price of the game. I will not be spending 2 game prices worth of money on Sc2 regardless of how many campaign missions are included. That’s unreasonable. And if they charge for Bnet then they can take a line from duke nukem and blow it out their asses. I already find it annoying that xbox live is $7.99 to play Halo 3 but then again it is my favorite game so it evens out. But 15 bucks a month? that’s two months of halo practically for a game that isn’t even my favorite. Psyche!

I also find it ridiculous that the game comes in installments and the terrans are up first. I think a vote should have been set up on the website to see which race went first but that’s just me.

    Lead us for the swarm!

  148. Feaster — December 20, 2008 @ 12:07 am

    @139
That is most likely not the release date, that is not even the name of the game any more.
I think the name of the first instalment is going to be:
    Terrans: wings of glory
    or something like that.

    Cheers

    @144 my own post
The figures are actually wrong, heh, but I could not edit the post. But the concepts stand, even if the figures are a bit off.

    Terrans: Wings of Liberty

  151. rumpoy3 — December 24, 2008 @ 12:50 am

    Feaster is right.

cuz dude im not ganna pay $120 for a game thats also ganna charge me for a monthly subscribtion. i did that with WOW and i thought the wasnt all that great. ?But seriously if thats ganna be the cost then screw SC2.

  152. HelmetBearer — December 24, 2008 @ 5:16 am

The first game in the trilogy will be StarCraft II Terrans: Wings of Liberty. The second will be StarCraft II Zerg: Heart of the Swarm, with the third and final installment of the main trilogy being StarCraft II Protoss: Legacy of the Void. Additionally, each game will be released at a separate time. “The Terran campaign is by far the furthest along, so it will most likely be released first, with the others to follow. Although they may not make release during the same year.”

“The decision was made at the end of last year and nothing to do with the Activision merger, according to lead producer Chris Sigatay (talking to MTV Multiplayer). Apparently more and more cuts were needed to fit all of the stories into one game – something at odds with what Blizzard wanted to do.”

    Personally I think it’s bull crap…
But i’m definitely agreeing with feaster, and he even has his crap marked to back it up…

market-wise they should have planned this through WAY more carefully.

The missions should be seperate from online play.
Giving users the advantage of knowing (based on which portion of the game they bought) where they stand.
And the release dates should not be varied by class/race on Starcraft. That leaves so many things open for indecisiveness and ignorance that it’s ridiculous. They should have planned on releasing they campaigns all at the same time, and had the online as an entirely different set, giving the buyer the only option of trying every race out online, and giving the minimum information needed for online program executing and informing.

My bet is that they spent more time talking about this crap than they did actually making the game.
So in turn they ran out of money and are now opening the game this way to make enough money to set it up correctly.

Low investments and poor time-spending are most likely what caused this.

And not to mention when they changed their plans, i highly doubt they got anyone’s attention for that!

As for the “expansions” idea behind this
If you’ve played Diablo II or Starcraft I
you’ll understand that servers can differentiate between the expansion and original game
    like Diablo II before LOD
    or SC before SCBW.

I imagine it will update your means of gameplay (based on what you’ve purchased and installed) and give you a group of people to play with containing the same software you have.

But those are just my thoughts

  153. Feaster — December 24, 2008 @ 7:17 am

I was assuming what HelmetBearer mentioned about Bnet discriminating based on expansions available.
My mistake, no one brought it up earlier, so cheers, HelmetBearer. =)

I am going to open myself to quite a bit of flames here, but… =P
One of my main reasons to get SCII is DOTA, which I can only assume that will eventually migrate from W3FZ to allow for better scripting and graphics.

And just as you MUST have W3 Frozen Throne expansion to play DOTA (most played map online) you will most likely (bet my shorts on it) need to have all SCII expansions to get it to work once it migrates.

And while I dearly love the game, the kind of money we are talking about for it…

Still, no despair, they may still come forward and put all of our fears to rest with free BattleNet, expansions at $10 and a combined release date of 4th December 2008.

    Right…

Merry Christmas to you all, Zerg and Protoss alike.

honestly the Drama in this thread should be more interesting then the game. though I admit that the nyndus worms are how they should have been all along and that the command center should have been able to carry scv’s, they turned itnto a complex version of rock paper scissors IE zealots beat mariens, seige tanks beat zealots, immortals beat seige tanks, reapers beat immortals… you all saw the vid. its gonna be a great game if they didnt try to make it for the true starcraft fans and not the blind fanbois who automaticly love it simply because of the name.

    Starcraft I.
    - All three races campaigns playable from one purchase
    - Free online play (half of the reason it stayed popular)
    - Expansion brought additional campaigns for all 3 races
    - Had ONE expansion

Why can’t Starcraft 2 play out the same way? It is a working strategy. Get your shit together Blizzard.

  163. Thom — January 23, 2009 @ 12:05 am

Just some things, Starcraft 2 itself Won’t cost $100 but only $50.
And all 3 races are playable in multyplayer.
The store is just so big that it wont fit in one game.(when you download you don’t have to download a very big file and we will get Starcraft 2 earlier)
And the expansion packs will not be released shortly after the main game. (I expect that it takes at least 1 year for every expansion) PS: sorry for bad Inglish…

Blizzard never releases a release date until the game is ready because they do not want to rush the development of the game. They strive for excellence and having a release date makes it hard to make such good games like they have had in the past.

Personally, i may agree with you; your information seems reliable. Only problem with ur info is that if ur friend is found out, hes a goner.

  179. freedomFighter — January 30, 2009 @ 4:42 pm

Having friends in blizzard that reveal viable information…not likely..my friend at blizzard said so…

as for the beta…how can you know that the beta takes 3 cd/dvds when the game is still alpha, at least according to their latest videos/announcements.

According to blizzards starcraft website, there will be 2 expansions to the game. The original game with the story of the terrans, and the expansions of the protoss and zerg, all telling a massive story.

Essentially this makes for 3 great games, and though it may or may not add extra units with the expansions, it will add awesome story components. Also, I highly doubt that the expansions will be priced at the same price point of the full game, and even if they were, Having the ability to create your own maps/units/story and so on is more than enough to make up for that with their included editor.

Starcraft 2 will a game of legends taking the RTS genre to the next level and making other developers beg for mercy as they fall to the epic game.

that said, cant wait for the beta, for those of us lucky enough to have a key anyways!!

as a final note..xXninjaXx most likely does NOT have a friend in blizzard, as noone would release that information for their life, likewise, WoW subscriptions and the release date of starcraft 2 which is not complete along with Diablo 3 which is definitely not complete, have little to no impact on eachother. Blizzard has always said, when its done its done, not: when this game starts loosing sales we will release this game…

  180. SirBurnzAlot — February 1, 2009 @ 8:53 am

I think the real question is when are they going to release the “release date”??? If the game is going to be going on sale in May like IGN has unofficially reported, then we should know an official estimate of the release date really soon.

    Like right now…

    DAMN!

  181. freedomFighter — February 1, 2009 @ 8:21 pm

Ign only put up a release date for May due to the speculation of the beta in March. Putting up and even speculating on a release date on a blizzard game is like trying to please a woman…you can try and think you might have it…but in the end…you’ll be standing alone in a dark corner wondering why you even tried…

Personally, i wouldnt EVER pre-order a blizzard game…mostly out of fear that the company that i placed the order with would go out of buisness or close its doors waiting for blizzard to release the game!

  195. Thom — February 20, 2009 @ 8:05 pm

    Well said Brendan…
But read this: Cavez: Latest Updates – 2/16/09

Question: “Why hasn’t Blizzard released the Beta?” or “WTF have they been working on, I played it at Blizzcon last year and I thought it was done!”
Answer: Solo campaign is under heavy construction as is Battlenet. When these things have enough work done that we know when our release date is going to be with strong confidence we will announce the Beta. Unless something crazy happens, the Beta is going to happen this year.

Question: “Why don’t you just give us your target dates if you don’t know the final date? We promise, we won’t get mad if Blizzard misses target dates.”
Answer: Let’s be realistic. Our target dates are not something we hit more than half the time. Putting those out there would be pretty close to lying to the fans. We are not going to do that. We want to be able to give good info, not info that we know is suspect. We’ll give target dates when we think it is very likely that we will hit them.

Question: When can we have the next Battle Report?
Answer: We were waiting on getting some improved graphics in (some of the new stuff looked REALLY rough). That was finished last week and we are now playing and looking for a good game. Once we get that game the process is reasonably quick to get it out. Once we go Beta, you guys can do these and put them up. When that happens I’m sure there will be a ton of them and I’m sure the quality of the games played and the announcing will go way up.

Question: “I notice that you haven’t actually given us any dates….”
Answer: Yeah. Sorry. We don’t want to lie about the Beta, and we don’t even want to lie about the next Battle Report. When we know a date (for anything) for certain, we’ll let you know.

Hang in there. We’re in the final stretch.

  196. philestyl — February 21, 2009 @ 5:30 am

Whether or not XxNinjaxX is right about having a friend that works for Blizzard or not, I would put his opinion at about 75-80% accurate. Having worked in executive sales positions for several software firms, it makes absolute sense what he is saying, to a degree. It is in Blizzard’s best interest to wait to release Diablo 3 AFTER the excitement and subscription base for WOW WOTLK has started to die out. Sheer sales knowledge dictate that in this economy, You are going to get more paid monthly subscribers for Diablo 3 later, than now. People just don’t have the money to pay monthly for two different games like they used to. Now, I know that this is Blizzard that we are talking about, super rich, and all, but keep in mind that when their execs talk about the bottom line from a sales perspective, they are talking about millions upon millions of dollars. They are talking about trying to get money from the masses, not from the minority, which consists of pure gamers that will spend that money on two or more subs without thinking about it twice. At this point, the vast majority of people playing WOW, that’s the only game they play. And their not going to pay to play two games at the same time. So it pays to wait until their tired of WOW, then hit em with something new. Same concept with console developers delaying games so that all the hot games don’t come out at the same time; saves the consumers from having to choose between one game or another because of pocketbook considerations. Now, I say 75-80% correct on this because this policy doesn’t really affect SC3, as it will not be a paid subscription game. But, don’t discount what he’s saying in the least bit. People, never forget, this is always, always about the money from the executive standpoint, not the game. And the executive standpoint is what determines the release of the games, not the hardcore programmers that do it for the love.

    FUCK WARCRAFT 4!

    I WANNA STARCRAFT!!!!

WHO THE HELL I HAVE TO FUCK TO RELEASE THIS GAME ?!?! -.-”

  199. 28 yrs old — February 25, 2009 @ 12:03 am

Holy fucking bullshit. it only takes 8&9 years to release the warcraft 4 out. but it takes almost 10 years to get Starcraft 2 in progress. This doesnt make any sense!!! we just wanna play SC 2 , instead of hving a game on us!
perhaps, it can be done by end of this yr. You know, those ppl when they were playing SC 1 was 18yrs old, now we are turning to 30yrs old. i dont think while im 40 yrs old , i will still play SC 3. slow progress~

  200. Mr.waiting — February 25, 2009 @ 2:22 am

I am so sick of the updates and releases to world of warcraft. yes they get a ton of money off it but come on… us people out here want something new and exciting to play and not world of warcraft for a change. just release the damn game, we cannot wait any longer!

  201. Alex — February 25, 2009 @ 4:55 am

I have some news for you guys..
I work for bestbuy and they already told our store it will be in stock on 11/3/09. this is OFFICIAL; or it would say winter 09. It’s in our system & I can preorder it as well for $59.99. thats of couse assuming nothing goes wrong of course, or we may have to wait a little longer. but its great to finally have an estimated date set in stone.

  202. Thom — February 25, 2009 @ 6:13 am

Great news, i hope it’s true!

  203. Feaster — February 25, 2009 @ 7:19 am

The fact that you write 11/3/09 and assume that the whole world will understand what you are talking about tells me that you are very likely to be “American” aka, from the USA.

That means the date should be interpreted as 3rd November 2009.

Wow, isnt that basically like saying: “we missed the Christmas market for 2008, and have WoW revenue for a while, so lets make it Christmas market for 2009″

I wish they would just call themselves Activision, that way I could just not care anymore.

    Dont trust me? Go to:
    http://www.activisionblizzard.com/corp/index.html

And tell me how much product (games) info you see, or if otherwise all you see is corporate business-babble and stock ticker feeds.

Requiem for Blizzard, its quality, and its customer focus.
And this time around, it can not be said that the gamers did not support them, or pay up.

  204. mr.waiting — February 25, 2009 @ 9:28 am

man 59.99 for one episode… bit expensive but w/e i guess i’m glad to hear it will be this year too bad so late in the year :( thanks for the update

What pisses me off is what about all us guys who don’t play stupid ass WoW, and haven’t purchased a single game since wc3, this wait is taking too fucking long and its frustrating to hear they prolong it because WoW is bringing them so much money.

  207. pre-ordering — February 26, 2009 @ 8:45 am

Well…. I have a different response for you guys..
I called bestbuy and they already announcing it will be in stock on May 31st 2009. this is unofficial and it says estimated release date and I can pre-order it for $59.99. but that is of course if there aren’t any problems before then. Still good to know.

I really dont forsee Blizzard getting this game out by may 31st. I mean this game was HUGE when it was out, if I were them I would take as long as I needed to make it PERFECT. I dont care if I have to wait until May 31st 2010, just dont fail me blizzard!

  217. Perado — March 17, 2009 @ 6:04 am

I agree with Silence. It wouldn’t be taking this long if there wasn’t a reason. They want it to be perfect and knowing them it will be. Having to wait just means when it does come out there won’t be a single game on the market that can stand up to it. StarCraft 2 will be Perfect. Plain and simple. And thats what real gamers want.

  218. Keith — March 21, 2009 @ 12:13 am

Anyone knows where to purchase starcraft cdkey? Been thinking of refreshing my memory a lil before I get ready for starcraft 2. Saw rpg88.com selling it for $4.95, price is decent & it has a very detailed description on how to use it for digital download from blizzard. Anyone tries them before? The link just in case if you want it, http://www.rpg88.com/StarCraft-cdkey-115.html .

  222. Karias — April 4, 2009 @ 7:21 pm

Blizzard Entertainment and Electronic Arts are just too different. Blizzard slowly does the game, making sure all bugs are fixed and there are no glitches. EA rushes the game release, then slowly patches it to fix the bugs and glitches.

i am waiting for SC2, but i’m getting more and more fed up and annoyed.

  223. DanathZ — April 8, 2009 @ 6:05 am

Any true blizzard fan knows the timeframe between announcing a game and releasing it is 1-3 years. There is no reason for anyone to believe this or Diablo 3 will be released until at least the end of 2009, possibly into 2010. When blizzard makes a game, they take the time to do it right. This is one of the reasons we all love their games so much, and why every single game they release wins multiple awards. Be patient, it will come when it comes.

  224. Will Dignazio — April 8, 2009 @ 7:47 am

Hey guys, are you forgetting about the ever forgotten Nintendo64 version of starcraft? Don’t you think that they are delaying not only to make the game perfect, but to make it cross platform as well? Just a possibility, and a little farfetched, but totally possible.

  225. Month — April 8, 2009 @ 3:15 pm

When? It’s April 2009, the last update of WOW is history, and there is only the production of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. Why do they do this to us? Haven’t we waited long enough? Haven’t we waited since 1999? Heven’t we supported BLIZZARD enough all these years? Don’t they have pity on us? (The answer is mostly no, I guess).

  228. Oblivian — April 13, 2009 @ 11:35 pm

Truth Teller: I spell it Oblivian for my own reason, it has nothing to do with spelling-difficulties.

To ANYONE comparing this to StarCraft:Ghost: GET THE GODDAMN STICK OUT OF OUR ASS!
That game was never intended to be released for anything but consoles – so who gives half a shit, seriously? SC2 will take strategy-games to a completely new era, we all know that – it’ll be worth the wait even if we have to wait until the end of the world (which is supposed to be sometime 2012 if you listen to popular doomsday-beliefs *grin*).

A lot is happening with games nowadays, just overall. Most of them have flashy graphics, but the storyline isn’t worth much more than what out cats leave in the litterbox. SC2 is supposed to BOTH have a great (or at least gigantic) storyline and graphics good enough to satisfy anyone – even those of us with *really* expensive graphiccards.

Also, on this “FUCK BLIZZARD U SUCK U HURT MY FEELINGS BCAUSE YOU DONT RELEASE STARCRAFT2!” bullshit.. there’s something you might want to try. It’s called the “outside world” and you get there by first standing up, then you continue by “walking” which is done by putting one foot in front of the other. Repeat.

    //O.

  229. Oblivian — April 13, 2009 @ 11:37 pm

PS: if even not *really* expensive graphiccards, then at least *too* expensive graphiccards.

  230. Jeremy Lee Gates — April 14, 2009 @ 5:40 am

Why so much anger, this is too many anger post for a release date forum post. Blizzard will be the only people to give a solid release date if they decide. Ten years is way too long to wait for beginning production of another game of the same caliber; especially with all the money received from sales and played by so many. Easily determined by amount of games played on battle.net!

    Put it this way.

The games concept has been well under way before even the original Starcraft (The CONCEPT) was released, so 15 years of waiting, and people complain about having to wait maybe another year or so. I wouldn’t be surprised or annoyed at a 2010 release. I’m all for it, it looks amazing. BE PATIENT.

  253. eh — May 15, 2009 @ 8:40 am

I haven’t read this whole forum, because I got bored after 10 minutes of reading, But did notice something that might have been said later than the 100th or so post; since Blizzard is one company developing more than several games at once (Diablo 3, SCII, WotLK to name a few), and also has very financially successful, high maintenece games like WoW, they would probably wait to release SCII as late as possible. I derive this from the fact that even though Blizzard has released information on SCII, they are still making a killing off of WoW, and this relationship needs not to be neglected. They know that if they release SCII now, most people who play WoW, and are ignorant to other Blizzard games, will absolutely hear about and buy/begin playing SCII. Due to this, their WoW revenues will go down, as a direct result of people switching to a better game. Now, as we all, or at least I hope we all know, it costs absolutely nothing to play SC/SCBW (there are no monthly fees as in WoW), so SCII is expected to be similar in that fashion (it would be dreadful, and stupid on Blizzard’s part to have battle.net fees). Therefore, Blizzard would want to either wait for a decrease in income due to WoW, in order to release SCII. Now, the problem is that as long as WoW is popular, which I expect to be forever, SCII will, theoretically, never be released. What I propose is to spread the word around the SC/SCII fan community to murder, in any fashion, the players of WoW!
Comedy aside, I think that SCII will not be released until Blizzard can get over the fact that they will lose money when SCII arrives, and that will take quite a long time, I assure you. (If you dont agree, how would you like to lose money??)
Oh, and just for the record, Im not claiming that Im smart/better than you/more financially secure than you/a nerd/a geek/and whatever else that I cant think of at this moment. I certainly am neither of those things, especially rich/better– I just have no way of knowing. Also, I dont want anyone being a wise ass and telling me to go piss off, if you are truly intelligent, you will go for the path of true debate.

  255. eh — May 15, 2009 @ 1:50 pm

Ahh, after reading all of the posts, I realize that I repeated what many people said. Well, sorry if you are upset because of my last post.
The best thing to do is to actually not guess, and not try to go off of what stores say, they are completely ripping you off, ever so slightly, as Feaster pointed out. If you want hard, true facts, I suggest looking at the Starcraft II FAQ’s at: http://www.starcraft2.com/faq.xml .
Personally, I have waited for this game after I found out that Blizzard was going to make a sequel. And can’t wait for its release. As I said earlier, it would completely suck if they made battle.net fees, if they do, Blizzard is no longer the company that I have grown to love ever since the release of SC. If Blizzard expects us to buy the game several times, in order to play the full SCII campaign, then its complete bs, and I would seriously mourn for the fall of my favorate gaming company.
If you are on this forum, and pretending that you work for Blizzard, please stop.
If you truly work for Blizzard, I have my suspicions whether you are actually correct. However, I, like all human beings in the history of time, have a high probability of being wrong. Im not saying that you are wrong, and that you cannot be trusted, its just that due to the annonymosity of forums no one can be trusted to be those who they claim to be.
Well, just for the heck of it, I like the Zerg, their power in numbers, and and Overmind, combined with the cuteness of lings just blows me away. And I love that they finally took those stupid wings off of them.
I like the look of the battle reports. And I think I will miss the dragoons, they were cool (especially the scene where the arbiter recalled 12 goons and owned the terran outpost(SC)).

    Ignorance is bliss…

Starcraft 2 beta signups were last month I believe, Beta for the game is confirmed for summer of 2009, meaning the latest the game will come out is very early 2010 or very late 2009. (according to the blues over at starcraft2.com regarding the beta)

    * Battle.net 2.0 will be free (confirmed)

    * Beta confirmed for summer (confirmed)

    * Starcraft 2 will have 2 confirmed expansions (confirmed)

    * The first core game will have campaigns for all 3 races, though the 2nd and 3rd race are limited. (confirmed)

    * You do not need both expansions to play as all 3 races (confirmed)

Yes, blizzard is known for their tried and true system of releasing games when their done, one of the reasons that their games dont suck in comparison to others.

I think i read a comment in here about starcraft 2 for consoles, simply put, wont happen. Blizzard is a PC developer, they tried the console route a few times with both starcraft and diablo, neither did well in comparison to their pc counterpart. Even looking at more modern RTS games on the consoles, their controls are sloppy at best, and the possibility of any true macro/micro management would be destroyed (halo wars anyone??). RTS requires a mouse and keyboard…

if your looking for any info on starcraft 2, please goto starcraft2.com and actually read comments that the moderators make (blizz blue posts). 99.9% of anything within the community is pure spam, the other 1% is honest to goodness blizzard facts.

    ehhh guys…

”According to this press release by Activision-Blizzard and this statement by Cydra on Battle.net, it seems to appear SC2 is officially delayed until 2010.

    Cydra-Blizzard Poster;
Today we announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009. Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.

Our mission is to develop games that deliver an epic entertainment experience. As part of that commitment, we will always take as much time as needed to ensure that our games and services meet the expectations of our players and the standard for quality that we set for ourselves as developers. As we work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination, we’ll also continue to polish and refine StarCraft II, and we look forward to delivering a real-time strategy gaming experience worthy of the series’ legacy in the first half of 2010.

We will share more details about the beta, Battle.net, and StarCraft II’s launch in the future. Keep an eye on the official website at http://www.starcraft2.com for updates, and as always, thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support for StarCraft II and all of Blizzard Entertainment’s games. ”

  261. Womble — December 13, 2009 @ 5:30 am

The hard work for this game was done years ago, funny how it’s taken longer to do the last 10% than it did to do the first 90%.

Face it the only reason it’s taking so long is to exploit the cash cow that is WoW for as long as possible.

I realise timing is everything in marketting but this is beyond the joke.

Seriously if this doesn’t come out before Q2 2010 I will simply boycott it in protest. Shame because they are so few good game producers left, most of my favourites have gone down the tunnel over the years. Cmon guys don’t let us down this way!

Remember you have a reponsibilty to your customers as well as yourselves, whilst i’m pleased you don’t do the EA thing, 12-13 years is probably too long between releases for one of the most popular games of all time.

Biggest problem here is you started promoting it way! to early. somebody should be looking for a new job about now.
