I own the PS3 version and the game has frozen at least 6 times during playing the main quest, besides that I experienced quite some other bugs and glitches. So technically the game's f*cked. The worst thing is even the patches couldnt fix it all. I really lowers the enjoyment of the game when you're constantly scared if the games gonna crash again soon. To me, no matter how awesome the game is, I feel i bought an inferior product. Shame on you Bethesda. When Fallout New Vegas comes out, I'll wait till some patches have been released (and the price has lowered).
Of the many PS3 games I own, i only ever had any freezes and problems with Fallout 3. (oh yeah, and about 2 freezes with Oblivion...)

Just this one site, 700+ comments on crashing issues with a game, come on Bethesda, get your f*cking act straight. And you still owe us a final patch for Fallout 3 that fixes all problems!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~FIX~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fallout does not like the newest sets of driver (at least the ION sets)
!!!!Warning follow instructions at your own risk, I am not responsible for what you do to your computer!!!!
Ok, All you have to do for Nvidia users is go back to set 185.81. However with Win 7 you cant just uninstall the new ones and restart cause 7 will reinstall them on boot. You have to Uninstall, the restart into safe mode, then run the installer for 185.81. After this you have to go to device manager and select your Nvidia card and hit properties. Then click install driver and then select the second option "Select driver from list of installed" or something to that effect. After this select the bottom Nvidia driver in the list (it was the bottom for me) when your all done restart and you will be running a Fallout friendly driver. Good luck Ati users, it should be the same overall idea.
this game was crashing for me too..and when it crash, i couldnt do nothing, not a 1 button combination (for eg. alt+ctrl+del) was working, so i had to reset my PC everytime. now i play in window mode. still sometimes crashes, usually when i go into any house, but at least i can hit alt+ctrl+del and close the fu**ing game. by the way, ffdshow doesnt helped me. good luck to everyone
