I installed the game fine, try to run the game and… screen flashes between full screen and normal sized, then error message DD3D30. So you say restarting works, well not for me, I restarted my computer more yesterday than I could imagine. Is this a driver conflict, possibly, I’m yet to find out.
this is a nightmare to install, I dont care how good the game maybe at the end of it, Its going back to the store!!!!!!!!
Possible solution to D3D errors. D3D or direct 3D errors might be fixed by adjusting graphics settings (duh). Read the post on this link, http://www.emutalk.net/archive/index.php/t-18647.html. If this helps than let people know, if not it may help others or I’m just wrong.
*Addition to post number 3*. Yeah this may be old info but try changing direct 3D settings to see if it helps.
One new solution and one new problem
1) Crash to desktop with Resc10 error
This happens after you’ve been playing for a little while and then press Esc to go to the menu. The cause is apparently a video memory leak. It can be prevented by lowering your texture resolution by one notch. I started out at high and moved to medium, which resolved it.
2) Game completely freezes, with looping juddering sound. Cannot alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del – only hard reboot.
This total freeze appears to happen randomly from a minute to twenty minutes of gameplay. I have never experienced a crash like this in Vista that actually breaks the O/S and requires a hard reboot. No error message, so no idea how to fix. Help?

@ #5/paul : try disabling crossfire mode if you have it enabled. everyone who are in X2 (crossfore, SLi) configurations should disable them because they are not fully supported in GTA IV
@bijil : Windows XP users should upgrade to SP3, assuming you are on WinXP. To the Vista users who also get that problem — they have no choice but wait for the patch
I had it working last night – multiplayer and everything, but this morning when i try to play it says “the application is missing..” , even after reboot, anyone else getting this?

When I try to install this game, it installs disks 1&2 just great. But when it tells that i should put the disk number one back, it doesn’t regognize it?!?!? It just says that: “Setup could not find the file on the specified path or disk. Please check that the proper disk is inserted or specify a new path.” And I have the disk 1 inserted!!! And this happens in the end, where the setup is almost done.

Didnt get passed the Second “disc 1 insertion”, it failed to regonize dics 1 again, so I cancelled it, and when I try to reinstall it again, the installation runs for about 10 sec, and then I get:

I had a few problems after I installed it. I have the steam version, btw. I kept getting the “rmn40″ error message, but I had windows vista 64 bit, which didn’t make sense to me. I rebooted my computer, and then I kept getting the “mma10″ error, which I solved that by logging out of the social club thing, and then I could finally play the game.
Now I’m stuck, but it will probably need a patch. I am at the mission “Clean Getaway.” I’ve looked up this problem, and apparently the people with the ps3 and xbox versions had the same problem with this mission attempting to load, but it just sits there. When I ctrl alt delete the game, it is not responding. Any ideas?

my laptop meets the minimum requirements (even the recommanded requirements except for my processor, Intel Core 2 Duo 1,83ghz wich is the minimum required processort) but the game runs really slow on my system, the gameplay is very choppy… is my laptop just not fast enough or could it be another problem?

My problem is the same as #5 for retail pc version. Starting the Rockstar Games Social Club shortcut (or direct file) doesn’t do anything. Starting GTA IV shortcut (or direct file) prompts a DOS screen for about 30 seconds and leaves after that. All without any error message.
I installed XP SP3, .net Framework 3.5 SP1 and updated my Geforce 7900 GS (which should have nothing to do with simply opening up RGSC.exe). Doesn’t change anything. Hope to hear a solution soon!

if ‘pc gameing is failing’ its not due to piracy. its due to it being harder to code for.
you tell me, which is easier?
-making your software compatible with hundreds of drivers and pieces of hardware? with a computer you have to account for the thousands of hardware setups possible.
-or making it work for one piece of hardware? with a console, you know that every player will be able to play it since everybody has the same console.

I think I may have found an addition fix for Error MMA10 that will allow you to play online, try this;
- Start GTA IV up and skip logging into Social Club.
- When the game is up and running, log into Games for windows (may not have to do that part tho).
- MINIMISE the game using Alt+Tab.
- Attempt to login to Social Network, retry until you have successfully logged in.
- MAXIMISE the game, start gameplay, bring up the mobile phone, select multiplayer and off you go.
Worked for me and a few others. Good luck.

Will GTA IV work on my processor it is Intel Pentinum 4
i installed fine, and when i run the game i see the legal notices and thos things, and then suddenly windows detects a problem and closes it, it doesnt even show me an error code nor does it send an error report to microsoft like it usually does. it just closes.
i tried putting my 3D settings to minimum without any AA o anastropic filtering. nothing. im now isntalling the 3.5 framework with the SP1.

Problem report: Game requires windows live update. Link dosent want to open correctly. Is there an alternate url where people can get an update?
So, I rushed to the store today. Was actually pretty happy to see there were 2 copies left on the shelf. Grabbed one, rushed home. Installed it, and after all the downloading/updating/authentication of the software, started to get ready for one hell of a ride.
Instead, I was greeted with a “NO INPUT SUPPORTED” or something like that on my screen.

When I get to the setup i press accept and then a box comesup saying ‘youre system is incompatible with %P.’ yes percent sign and P. It says to follow the link below but there is no friggin link!
Problem: No Input Supported
Possible Fix: using -windowed and possibly adjusting the window to any size you find suitable for you
Note: Initially, I wasn’t getting any video support, I am not sure if it’s part to my video card being at the bottom of the food chain (Radeon X1900gt), but until then, I guess, I can at least get to see the start menu.
Similar to many PC gamers, I was greatly anticipating GTA IV, PC version. After rushing out to get it at the store today, I went home and tried to install it. Woe and behold, I encountered a similar problem to when I tried installing UT3 the other time, some error related to the .cab files popped out.
So I tried using my UT3 fix: Copy the damn files on the DVD over to the HDD and start installing from there.
Know what? 0.5 seconds later, this error pop up saying there’s not enough disk space to copy the files over, when my HDD has 500 friggin’ GB of space. With 200+GB left.
Same sentiments as all the disgruntled PC gamers up there, what the f**k’s wrong with pc game studios these days?
Why must they make installing games (which is SUPPOSED to be a DAMN BREEZE) such a pain in the assss for us?!

lucky you guys, i did not even get it to the main screen, it crashes to desktop after the orange and blue r* logo and the GTAIV main logo, then it crashes.
I tried 3 different beta drivers and the latest nvidia driver.
Actually im using 2 of them and 7900GT SLI (of course SLI is not even supported in GTAIv, pathetic!!), however on another forum they advised to dl another foreceware driver 180.70, althoug hits not the correct one, try to get it running with this one! Nvidia/R* please get this fixed!! thanks

i got a CRC error at around the 9th bar of installation progress on the first disc. It was smth related to a sound file, but I ignored it.

I’ve been installing quite a few times now and it accepts disc 1 then it’s installing.. Half way there it asks for disc 2 but then it says: ‘Setup could not find a file on the specified path or disk’ before when I had this problem I downloaded disc 2 again and it worked untill it asked for disc 1 again and then it again says: ‘Setup could not find a file on the specified path or disk’ In the beginning it does accept disc 1 and at the end it doesn’t. Anyone got a solution?

Try installing in Windows (Safe Mode)? I attempted it a while back just now, and my GTA IV finally installed, albeit ignoring 2 errors along the way, which I seriously wonder whether or not would affect the gameplay.
So, I was happy for awhile, then came all the Social Club + Windows Live bullshit. Now, I have the same problem with some above, in which when I double-click on the game icon, the game appears as though it is going to start, but it doesn’t.
Urgh, what a huge waste of time today have been.
..I heard if you use a crack on IV it fixes performance errors…someone with a 7300GT, P4HT 3.0GHZ and 1gb ram had it running smooth…
Ah i fixed the problem.
If you have Nvidia gForce SE and you got the error: FATAL ERROR RESC10 then you must download and run the newest driver for nvidia Gforce
FIX for ” FATAL ERROR WS10″ (it’s about the xlive program) u have to manually install the xlive redis from the dvd u browse and u go to GTA IV folder then to the Redistributable folder and u install the “xliveredist ” program afther that u copy the 3 files that start with the name xlive from (Windows – System 32 ) into the folder where GTA IV is installed and restart the comp then start the game (mine started) i have a low end comp amd x2 4000+(2,1ghz) 2 gb ram 667 and a 8500 gt 512 ddr 2 (oc by myself) and the game runs preaty good in low setting !! hope that this can help u guys !!!

Grand theft auto iv PC problem:
My game freezes up every time almost at the same point near the beggining of the game.
Whilst driving away after picking up the 2 women at the underground the game freezes.
Can get out of the crash by ctrl alt del then end the program.

I keep getting error “DD3D50″ Which supposedly means I have a not directX 9.0 video card. Yet I not only have a 9.0 Enabled card, I actually have derect X 9.0 installed on it..How can this be?

Hi all i have the same problem as No 58, its driving me mad, it installs up to asking for disc 2, put disc 2 in, and then it tells me it cant find the file, i have manually pointed it towards the file, copied the file to my HD and pointed towards it.
Nothing working, please help i brought the damn game so i want to be able to play it!
@ Angry Gta fan, #11: I had the same problem, fixed it by installing DirectX from the 1st DVD: GTAIV > Redistributable > DirectX_jun2008 and run dxsetup.exe
Restarted, re-installed and no longer had that error when installing.

If the game is crashing during the starting and benchmark load screen, and you are running windows xp, try the following:
Create a shortcut to “LaunchGTAIV.exe” ,
Right click on the shortcut,
Click “properties”
Select the compatibility tab,
Check the box which says “run this program in compatibility mode for:” then select Windows 2000 from the drop down menu beneath it.
Finally check the box “Disable visual themes”.
Voila, run the game using the shortcut you have just created and you should be in business.properties, no guarantees it will work for everyone but it worked for me…
I should point out that I have an average system and after performing the above solution i am not experiencing any crashes, even in game. Try the solution in the post above if you are getting intermittent crashes and lock ups in game.
I have just spent hours downloading the game off the steam. After fixing an RMN40 error with SP3 the game launches. However, when I press start it lunches the screen that shows different people and then it crashes to the descktop without any error messages.
I have installed SP3, latest Nvidia drivers , Framework 3.5 and latest directX. I tried to run it with different setting nothing helps and it really pisses me off.
MY PC specs :
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ dual core. 2G of RAM, 512 MB GeForse 8800 GT.
I installed the game the day it came out and it was ok… although the game would lag no matter what, I even tested it out with putting the res down to 800×600 and all the setting on the lowest options and it lagged the same as it did on 1680×1050 with medium settings ???
anyway a played for 4 days with no problems untill the game crashed and I got an error: ZLIB20 and after that whenever i tried to play the game it would crash in about 10 seconds of loading the game OR it would loose all the textures and I would have to shut it down. So i looked it up and apparently I had to reinstall the game to get it working again. So I uninstalled the game and when I tried to reinstall I got the BSOD, so when it rebooted I tried to reinstall again and I kept getting errors: “The file xxxxxx is different to the one in the setup’s .cab file” so I tried rebooting but got the same problem. I had the option to Ignore so i did… then again and again all the way through disk 1 and 2 about 30 times until the setup finaly completed. So I tried running the game again and now it gets to the point where it tries to load the saved game but then the game becomes unresponsive and just sits there doing nothing.
This game is fucking killing me….
Hi, I ran this game and almost all the models are invisible and the game is unplayable. I get no error codes at all just a really bad video experience. Any help would be great and btw I am using a cracked torrent download so I may have got a bad torrent. None the less I downloaded it to make sure it worked ok before I went out and buy it. Any help with this video issue will be great though. Thanks -Sam
seeing my own problem and all others in here and over the net, no god does not hate you, we just need to wait for the new patch from r* (which is with MS already for apprv.) or wait for Nvidia’s newest drivers (not the one as on nzone.com, 180.xx)…only a couple of days

So my problem is Social Club related, it doesn’t start at all. I see it on process list of task manager for a second then it disappears from there and doesn’t start. I’m messing with Frameworks now but ffs I can’t make it working, ISO: HELP.
Great, I am finally able to get it up and running now, thanks to manually installing the WindowsLive thingy.
But now, I am facing YET another problem. -.- (Why am I not getting surprised about this now?)
I chose not to log into Windows Live since it just gives me endless prompts and problems, and proceeded to start on the game. However, I am stuck at the loading screen of the first mission. It just shows the animated logo of “Loading…”, but nothing loads at all after a very long time.
Anyone know what to do about this?

@XSA-RAD. Tried to install directX from the disk 1, still the same. The problem appears when i put the disk 1 again, and i press OK. It seems like its continuing for a second, put then the auto-start screen pops up, and it starts to complain :/ oh and I have the normal 32vista.

I’ve got it working. I couldn’t start the game. It only tried to run and then crashed. Asus’s GAMER OSD had to be removed and reinstalling nvidia drivers did it.

go to start Run and type regedit
then search for key local machine/system/currentcontrolset/control/windows

at windows you see csd version 00000100
for sp1 or 0000200 for sp2 change it to 300 and restart your machine you should now have sp3 installed it worked for me

i was lazy so i though ill delete it first and then uninstall from control panel, usually works, but this time i try uninstalling gta it says that securom can’t undo license or something like that any idea how to fix it?

Dear all with installation problems (like #11).
I had the same problem. Now successfully solved.
Take a note, that when installer asks to put DISC1 for the second time (at the end of installation) and doesn’t accept it there is (just for a short moment of time after clicking OK on the window) a writing visible. That writing says something about LIVE. Apparently the installer should start installation of LIVE then and it can’t and in effect GTAIV cannot be installed properly.
That is becouse VISTA has known issue with file associations. Some time ago i’ve lost file associations for *.exe files and many others. I’ve managed to repair that. What I didn’t repair is *.MSI association. And LIVE on GTAIV is installed via *.MSI file…
That’s why it can’t be installed.

i have installed before half hour and nothing
i downloaded the game and i got 2 iso’s. Whenever i mount the first iso a message like this appears ” CRC error: the file grand theft auto iv/pc/data/maps/east/brook_2n.img doesnt match the file in the set up’s.cab file. The medium from which you are running the set up may be corrupted.” I don’t know what that means and i need help, any solutions i will thank u kindly.
My game crashes after the first “legal screen” (once in three or four attempts the game launches and i played more than 20 missions)usually to the desktop but lately afters one or two chrashes instead of launching the game after the screnn or crashing it just reboots my system.

(IT HAS REALLY WORKED FOR ME)
I was getting this annoying resc10 error and crash, and i was never ever able to enter the game (couldn’t even see the rockstar logo at the beginning). But at last i have fixed it. Firstly delete game and be sure nothing remained about its registry junk. Use an old registry cleaner software (but be careful). Reboot your PC, Then you must download and update your video card driver (Don’t forget to delete old one, and it’s registry files =use “driver cleaner pro” for it. i’m using geforce 8800gt, and downloaded nvidia driver version 180.48) Finally you can load the game, and try playing. It was a tight problem, but i solved it by this way. Inform with your comments if it works for you too.
Ok first of all, I understand you all are mad at Rockstar, but as one dude said before. It’s hard making something that is compatible on a million diffrent devices instead of making a game for a console. Give them some slack aaight? they’re working hard fixing all of your problems.
My problem is the missing texture thing. I can start with no problem. Play with no/some lag but, I don’t see a surrounding area (except sometimes when pause the game for a couple of minutes and play, it then loaded the surrounding area). Imma try the solution to that tomorow listed all the way above here. I think it can help, BUT AT LEAST I’M PATIENT ENOUGH TO WAIT UNTIL THE UPDATE/PATCH FROM ROCKSTAR COMES OUT AND DONT START GETTING MAD AT ROCKSTAR AND LOSING FAITH IN THEM! They’ve put extra features and better graphics in the pc-version, and I simply know that GTA IV is a killer game! it will make me cum.

yesterday my game, workt perfectly, but today morning i tried to play it, but a couldnt open the social club, deleted it, becouse i wanted to reinstall, but i couldnt open the setup file eather. it says the program is too big for the memory(i have 2gb ram). but yesterday i had no problams. i have formated the “c:/” and reinstalled the windows. but it didnt solved the problame.

I got help from one guy at the nforce forums for our problem:
“Sounds pretty simple to me, delete the game folder manually, use CCleaner or a similar utility and delete the program from the uninstall list.
Run regedit and delete any information about the game.
(HKey_Local_Machine/Software/RockstarGames/Grand Theft Auto IV/ )
This is optional but will get rid of the last couple of files, delete the information in the “Documents and Settings” or “User” folder about the game.
(On XP it should be – “C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV” and “C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Rockstar Games” )
Should be all.”

Hi everyone, I’ve been reading this hole page and I wavent found anyone with the same problem as me. When I first installed the game it all went well untill I was to activate online (or something like that) and then my computer freezed so I had to reboot.
After that I’ve been trying to start the game and when Vista ask me if I want to run a program called “Release Control” and push contine the computer freezes again!

Hey bud, i have the same problem. What I assume to be the very first mission is stuck on the “Loading…” page. And yeah, no sound or anything is playing, ‘cept for that dumb animated logo. When I try to launch LaunchGTAIV.exe that small DOS screen shows up and then it crashes. Error window appears and says that (translation from finnish not 100% same as in english XP) “Grand Theft Auto IV has noticed an error and product must be closed. If you were handling information, that information might have lost.” Exiting thing is that when I click on technical infromation it says, under “System information”, that I had Windows NT 5.1 Build 2600, but I have XP SP3.? I don’t know does that matter but I found it kind of weird. What how to solve this?

Lol, while that loser of a game studio is finding out what’s wrong in this big mess they created, I’ve currently reinstalled GTA: San Andreas and gone back to it in the meantime.
After much stress, I’ve totally annihilated my drivers in Safe Mode with Driver Cleaner Pro (FreeWare – Google it). Then, I installed ATI Catalyst 8.11. Works like a charm. Thanks! I’m getting a new graphics card, however. My current System Specs (running on Low, and Medium, 1440×900):

That’s your graphics card. My friend had the exact same issue and he tried everything, the only thing that solved it was changing the graphics card.

@Shadori: Make sure you install the latest version of the ENB Series mode. I do believe that it can make GTA SA look even better then the GTA IV.
@AngryGTAfan: Make sure you don’t have too many stuff working in the background. Hardware-wise, I’d only suspect that everything could be slightly bottlenecking with your CPU, although its a pretty decent CPU.

The new drivers released as a leaked version of the nvidia beta seem to fix a common missing texture problem on 7 series graphic cards. Just search for 180.84_geforce_winvista_32bit_english_beta. Worked for me! The support team recommended at my own trial a go of these and it seemed to have fixed my issue.

Hey there! I bought GTA few days ago, Installion went perfectly and I ran the game and it worked! But the problem is when I’ve playing randomly 2-40 minutes the game freezes for like 10 seconds and continues with HUGE lag. Like 1 fps.
My specs are :

I have all the requirements to run GTA IV on my pc, and the install runs smoothly until the last step when it says please insert disc 1 (the 2nd time). Disc one loads, but it takes about 30 minutes just to install the language readme.txt files. This should only take a few seconds.
When it is done installing, it says “please insert disc 1″ but disc 1 is already inserted!! I click OK and it cycles through the last part of the install again and then comes up with the same message again when it’s done (it’s a vicious cycle).
I would really appreciate if someone can help me because all i want to do is play the game already!

went to my friend yesterday – he’s got vaio laptop with blueray dvd and installed GTA. I thought if he can play it i can copy my dvd’s onto some external hdd and bring it back home.
Tried to install and what ??
Again CRC ERROR – this time on weazel.bik and some .rpf sound file.
Managed to start it and see intro this time tho but than it gave vistas bsod and thats about it
Uninstalled it and installed again through dvd-rom – got loads of errors but 2 files above didnt gave any – so copied it onto earlier made copy of the game but didnt work (apparently even if U’ve got whole game made of two installs it still wont run)
Will install it again from hdd, than copy missing files from shadow copy of installed game and post what the outcome is.
If anyone got some solution to it (as customer support seems to know less then me in this matter) PLS let me know, i thought that coping it on other machine will help but didnt.
OK i try everything, but every time i try to install some error popup, and i chose ignore, and after install i run it. its work, but after 20min, sometimes 1h game crash, i see that error popup on files like radio and sound, and maybe when game try to run it, than it crash. if anyone have some kind of solution, help me/us. i see other people have same problem, and i ask them, did you try to run it on other machine, did you check your memory with memtest, or other programs, and what kind of os and with sp you have.

Plays best on an Alienware 7500 my arse…
I have an alienware 7500, the PC in the game manual.
Let me put it this way…if this game runs best on my system, I can only imagine the hell the rest of you are going through.

Still get crashes to desktop over and over every 5-10min playing. FPS drops dramatically even during the opening credits movie…especially with the “car on the lift” scene.
And this is the computer the game manual says that the game plays best on.
Wow, after such a long delay, it still runs like garbage. Lets face it, the console version is much better due to the fact that it is actually playable.

IV doesnt even run. error comes when run gtaiv.exe/gtaivlauncher.exe/socialclub-> play.
For all the people who get the message “your system is incompatible with xp” or something like that..
First go to my computer (disk 1 must be in pc!)
open the file of the dvd
search for the .exe file to install
right click and go to properties
then select compatible or something
thick off the little box and select in de box that will be available windows xp sp2 (or something like that)
apply
and try to run it again…
problem should be fixed!

I just wanted to help u loosers, that is why i regestred here So:
1) You don’t need XP… just use Vista!
2) Go to the options of the setup.exe on your GTA disc.
3) Choose rhe compatibility options there.
4) You need to tick the field with Windows XP (SP2) and accept changes
it worked fine for hours but now whenever i run it it will load for a bit then restart my computer randomly. i had this problem with the shortcut on my desktop and i solved it by running the actuall launcher but now that has the same problem.

Hello, I’ve had that very same problem, but I managed to fix it without re-install or anything!
Okay, all you have to do is,
1. Goto c:\Documents and Settings\(your username)\
2. Click on ‘tools’ (on the toolbar) then on ‘folder options’.
3. Select the ‘view’ tab.
4. Now, click on ’show hidden files and folders’
5. Unselect ‘hide protected operating system files’ and ignore the message that pops up
6. Click ‘ok’/'apply’ now goto: E:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV
7. Delete the ’settings’ folder
It should work now, but you’ll have to reset all your settings

I was getting an error right after the legal screen but since reinstalling GTA IV it has gone. Now my problem is the video freezing right at the start. The sound keeps going but the video freezes. It is a reset button only solution and has now made my OS unstable.

Here’s what I did to get the game to run. First of all I’m running Vista, so I right clicked on the desktop, went to personalize, went to themes, then selected “Windows Classic Theme”. The fucking game ran with no problem, before I didn’t even see it boot. Someone explain this to me…
Oh and one more thing, when I switch back to Vista Theme, I get the DD3D30 error message again but switch back to classic, its gone runs fine. Its something to do with the Vista theme.

Believe me I had tried anything and I wasn’t hoping for it to fix anything but it actually helped and I could play GTA IV without any problems besides some memory lag spikes but that is to be fixed with the official patch.

Mine loads up and runs fine. Plays for like 5 or 10 mintues then it start to run at like one frame at a time. Then gets to the point it just locks up. I have to alt tab out and close the program. Anyone haveing this problem?

Every time a start the game it doesnt even start and crashes to desktop with an error message saying that the GTIV.exe has stopped working. I tried everything and the i just changed the wideocard. It worked and i restarted the pc to try again and suddenly it didnt work no more. Then i put my own 8800gts back in and it did start. This made me suspect that there is a problem with drivers and now i found out that everytime before i start the game i have to uninstal the drivers for video car, restart pc, let it find the video card and install drivers automaticaly and the the game will start for one time. I know it is not really a fix but that will let you play this buggware until they sort it out. peace..

Whenever I get to like 99.9% of install, it’s unable to install the language ReadMe.txt from all French / Spanish / Italian and German. Just keeps saying invalid path.

Game completely freezes, with looping juddering sound. Cannot alt-tab or
ctrl-alt-del – only hard reboot. seems to happen soon as i get to an area where the textures look weird..
This total freeze appears to happen randomly from a minute to twenty minutes
of game play. I have never experienced a crash like this in Vista that
actually breaks the O/S and requires a hard reboot. No error message, so no

In response to number 217 this is because your are using a pirated copy of the game you downloaded off the internet.. the one that rockstar put out there themselves just for the fun of it.. they made it so your screen would give the drunk effect the entire time you are playing.. this is a true story..

an ATI Radeo 9250 is WAY to old to support the latest DirectX version
even you CAN install the latest DirectX software DOES NOT mean your video card fully support it.
so in your case i would buy a new graphic card.
and if the rest of your pc is out-dated . i’d probably just buy a new one because this game is asking much of your system resources.

I don’t see the point in pirating the game. You miss out on a lot of extras (like multilayer and the poster sized map that game with the game) Plus it seems to have more value in it
I wonder if ANYONE is actually playing this game by the looks of it. So many errors, this must be hell for the game programmers in R*. I am experiencing the DD3D50 “DirectX 9″ error, when actually i have DX10 on my computer with my updated ATI 256mb, pentium 4. Maybe I should re-install? Right click on it –> compatibilities, tick the box and choose Xp Service pack 2.

? downloaded the razor version of the game(two times). And extracted the iso files. an mounted the two dvd. and i started the setup. When the first dvd install finished there was a message
“Setup requires a disc change,
please insert disc 2 that contains the file data3.cab.”
ok that’s it i choose the second dvd that i mounted but setup said that;
”
setup could not find a file on the specified path or disk.
please check that the proper disk is inserted or specify a new path.”
that’s the problem. how can i solve it? i downloaded the game 2 times. but setup couldnt find the data3.cab file both. but the file was there.
Just a small tip, Install gta on the primary hard drive not on the secondary.
Don’t know why but this seemed to fix my problems and gta has not crashed since.
After installing the windows live update and downloading the nvidia driver (vista 32-bit) I click play on the Social Club menu, the game begins to load but then nothing happens, it’s just blank. Grrrr! Can anyone help me?

When you mean it’s blank, do you mean nothing happens at all, or the screen gose black and nothing happens? If so try deleting or moving the GTA IV folder that contains your saved games and stuff (in c:\Documents and Settings\(Your Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games in XP, but it might be different in Vista) It worked for me!
The last 2 weeks have been very bad for GTA Iv Fans , First of all it took me almost 2 hours just 2 install the game , after a few hours play the game crashes and the game locks up. Total reboot needed !!! Now i’n trying to download the patch from windows live , cant even log in after 20 tries. Please need advice how to get the game running without crashes. Starting the Rockstar Games Social Club shortcut (or direct file) doesn’t do anything. Starting GTA IV shortcut (or direct file) prompts a DOS screen for about 30 seconds and leaves after that. No Error message.

Hi, I have been trying to get GTA IV working on my system today, and the good news is I have solved my particular error, and so I am relaying this information to you.
I have a dual-boot system XP/Vista…GTA IV for me worked with no problems at all within Vista, however I mainly use Xp so I wanted to install it there.
Installation on XP was fine, and initial game loading was also fine, however after installing the patch from within the game, then problems occured, every time I tried to load GTA IV I would get a crash to desktop, with just the standard ‘program has an error and need to close etc etc’ message.
Now the really good news is that I traced the error message back to a file named ’s3dwrapperd3d9.dll’
You’ll be pleased to know that this file has nothing at all to do with the GTA IV installation it is a dll ‘wrapper’ hook used by a Stereo 3d driver/app called IZ3D.
What a surprise, i uninstall IZ3D and removed the directory it leaves behind (some files remain upon uninstallation only used by IZ3D) and GTA IV now runs flawlessly on my XP system too.
I would hazard a guess that many people at some point have tried out IZ3D, at least 3 other people I know could not get GTA IV working on their XP installations, and now they have confirmed to me that they can now play the game after deleting the above mentioned files/program
Indeed Nvidia has a stereo driver program and driver package also, but I cannot confirm that s3dwrapperd3d9.dll is used in that scenario, but I guess it could be a possibility.
Im particulary pleased with finding this out because the standard error message is about as vague as vague can be.
Hope this information can help even just 1 other person.

When i open the Data3 file in the disc 2 there was no items at all…..

simply insert disc 1 and navigate to…..
F:\GTAIV then double click on setup.exe
(Replace F: with the name of your dvd drive)
That is to install GTA IV however you will have to install RGSC also which is at F:\RGSC then double click setup.exe
(Once again replace F: with your dvd drive letter)

Sounds like a bad disc, either get it replaced or maybe try making a virtual image of the disc and try installing it that way with daemon tools or similar.

myself, im experiessing the WS10 error, D3DD50 error and D3D error (so far i think ive gotten rid of D3D errors but still get WS10 error wich fix i cant find ANYWHERE!)
I gave GTA to my husband as an early prezzie. It kept freezing after install so he got frustrated and deleted it. Never got to use it. The securom would not delete and we downloaded the removal tool but could not open it. We can do most things like internet BUT his other games like call of duty will not open now. None will open everything just freezes whenever he tries. Can anyone suggest anything? Thank you

my game was working(or atleast i was able to start the damn thing, even though it was ridicuosly slow) but now when i launch it, it shows the rockstar icon then it show the gta 4 screen, then it flashes and crashes to my desktop with no error, just says windows is looking for solution. please if anyone has a clue to what is wrong, please help.
When in game, i can hear the radio stations and speech (although not when the character is in the vehicle) but I have no sound effects, no ambient crowd or vehicle noises, gunshots, etc.

i have been playing gta 4 on pc for 4 days and it is working fine.
yesterday when i was doing a mission with playboy x in which he gives niko bellic new mobile phone with camera.
after that when i call someone or recieve a call i can hear my voice but not of the person who is on the other side.
i have enabled subtitles so i can see subtitles of what the other person is saying as text but cannot hear his/her voice

I was getting CRC errors on install as well. The whole thing about not matching cab size and blah blah blah! Yes I bought the game, it was on disc from BB. So, that out of the way, I called Tech and spent HOURS working through a bunch of different hoops. It is some sort of write error to do with the hard drive I think. We tried to install from disc, from HD, to a back up drive, from a back up drive…etc. Finally I tried to install it on a different machine and it installed, no hickups. I then went back to the original machine, installed and ignored the errors. I wrote down the names of the files it was hanging on and copied them from the second computer. Wahlah! The game has worked without hickup! If you have access to another machine, give this a try. I have a feeling its something that can not be resolved easily. Trust me, tech tried a whole lot of stuff and even escalated me to level 2. That was the point I just said, let me try it my way and it seems to have worked for now.

I solved the problem by turning the sleep mode on in my cell phone before the sms could reach me (after loading a previous save game) and I completed the mission normally, after the mission I finished the first of Brucie’s jobs, the same SMS reached me though, but this time I can use the internet cafe with no problems….!!!

these files are like of 25% of the total missing files error. Do YOU mean I should copy all this 100+ files crap from other computer? only to play this ******* GTA4? will install it after 1 month….SIMPLE
When I log into internet, the ingame browser’s graphics are garbage. Anyone know why this happens? I have ATI x1900. Path#1 is installed.

I bought GTA 4 from a store, I have a vista and i got .NET Framework 3.5 installed. Da hole game is installed and i click on da LauchGTAIV.exe and this Black box comes up(i think itz called a command window) and nuthin happins, wheres da game??? all i see is da black box with no errors.
since i have upgraded my ram to 3GB when i launch GTA the loading screen with all the charqacters and the music repeats for like 10 times

Ouch. That is way down the install too. My XP sp 3 install is not even a month old as well. Do you have any older GTA versions installed?
Well, if push comes to shove, copy and move the files if you really want to play or get ready for hour after hour of tech support trying a million different things. Or just shelve it for now. I do have to say though, now that the game is working, it was worth doing the copy thing for me. Hope it gets better for you!

Possible solution for Sapphire HD 4870 users experiencing in game unrecoverable crashes (Pixelation):
I just upgraded my video card from a 8800GTS to a 4870. GTA was working fine with no issues with the 8800GTS but when i slapped in the 4870 i was exposed to constant crashes. The game would start fine but 5-10mins of playing would result is strange pixelation on the screen and the system would require a hard reset, no other option.
Solution:
I went to my video card manufacturers website, in this case Sapphire and downloaded the latest VBIOS (Video BIOS, different to drivers and normal BIOS) Then tried using AtiWinflash to flash the new VBIOS. This failed as it needed to be in ‘Pure Dos’ mode. I then tried using ultimate bootcd
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ to boot off a dvd image. Then selected bootable dos disk and chose one of the DOS bootdisk options, i was then able to change cd’s to the one i burnt earlier’ (T:drive)the one with the new VBIOS and program ‘flash.bat’. Once i updated the VBIOS and rebooted, launched GTA IV, no more crashes!!! WOOT. You can also use a bootable USB key but in my case i could not get the USB method working so i just used 2 cd’s (1x Ultimate boot cd & 1x VBIOS dos utility and updated bios file)
Hope this helps some1 else out there. If you find it helpful, please give credit where it’s due yo!!
**Note latest Ati Catylist Drivers were used & GTA IV Patch #1 also when experiencing this problem mentioned above.
I should also mention that people that are experiencing texture loss, if you are using the -nomemrestrict -norestrictions -novblank command line after the shortcut (This bypasses the memory restrictions in GTA IV)
If you only have 256MB or 320MB of video memory, your game will not run with high texture settings, it may not even run on medium, you will experience high texture loss/ transparency.
You might get away with it if you have more than 512mb of video memory though. I have a 512mb card and can crank it to High texture and highest render with no texture loss at all. (past the supposed ‘835mb’ of required memory)

Ok heres my problem. I install gta 4 fine i get the sp2 error but i fixed that by dling sp3. I go to install net.framework 3.5 sp1 after 4 mins after installation the pc freezes. If i restart it freezes on the desktop at the same time.

When I open the game a black box (like command prompt) opens and then goes into a full screen black mode and then the computer shows some blue screen with some text for about 1 second and then restarts the computer!!! help will be great!

install the required redistirbutables from the DVD in the RGSC folder..dont remember them exactly but guess they are flash related codecs that needs to be installed which are on the dvd.

You are not the first to have the WS10 problem. What I did was installed the 1.0.1.0 patch. Then, when the WS10 problem happened again, I re-installed the patch. That fixed it for me!
If it doesn’t work for you, reformat Windows and install a fresh copy. It took me 4 reformats =/.

I have a problem similar to commnet #5, #234, and #235; freezing/lock-ups almost randomly in-game, with no error messages. The only option is to hard reboot. Symptoms are audio glitching, shortly followed up by a graphics freeze, all the while my HDD usage skyrockets.

ok i bought the game and i installed it joined the windows live, and the social club all te software was uptodate graphics card and everything checks out fine. heres the issue. afetehinstall and im ready to launch theres a small Dos screen that appears theni get this message:

if you managed to run the game but after a while you are stuck with a black screen befor the logos and trademark which would end u up with restarting the PC..here is what i did and worked for me ,,,just alt tab back to windows once the black screen of the game appears(after u press the play button to start the game) and then use alt tab again to get back to the game..thats what got me pass the black screen n into gta without ny problems..

I got multiple problems with the game:
First of all when I start the game after the loading screen I keep getting a loop of the intro sound.
This ends after a while and then my sound starts to fade out, eventually I only hear an irritating buzz and no other sounds…
The other problem is huge frame drop after a while, when I go check my core and memory speeds of graphics card: they are to low and I can’t get em up again unless I reboot

I have a fix for the random freezing and crashing errors ! It may not work for all, but it did for me and now i can play no problems! IF you are running 3GB of RAM in XP, you need to remove 1GB so that you only have 2GB, as GTA IV has conflicts with using the extra 1GB properly thus resulting in crashes and freezes !

i had the same problem and you won’t get any fix from the web yet. i tried for at least 7-8 hrs. after that i went to the guy who got the original 7gb disks, made a new copy and now it is installed.got it working. for me the error was a broken copy of the installation disk.

since i got GTA 4, i had problems, then i decided to upgrade my processor and motherboard, and finally a new vid card, well over minimum requirements, as my old specs were all minimum but it still ran GTA 4, but horribly, even with the new patch, and new nvidia drivers,… now that ive spend over 600$ to uprage my PC (just to play to gta 4) i find myself fucked both ways since the game did not improve in anyway!!! I have installed grand theft auto 4..i failed to connect to internet to perform (confirm the release date of software has passed),i know stupid me.When i try to do it now it won’t let me,it just says to launch rockstar social club…the only icon on desktop is for social club,there are no game icons.i tried to uninstall game from control panel(add or remove programs), comes with message( failed to release SecuROM licence).I am running vista home prem sp1.I tried rockstar fix (licence removal tool) with no success it tells me there is no licence to remove.Any help would be much appriciated
just like alot of people i bought gta 4 today. I installed it and everyting went fine until i got to the date check thing. I get an error that says i dont have an active internet connection. But i do have an acitve one which is running at the time. I serched around online and it said that port 433 or somthing like that needs to let it get the site. So i click on a button that says activate manually. The first time i clicked it it worked and i had to get all the numbers online from another site. So i did all that and when i went to go type all the info in the window was gone. Now when i click the activate manually button nothing shows up. What can i do to make it work? IS there a way to show that i have an active interet connection so it will do it automatically or is there a way to get that dang window to open?

Need help people… My game was running gr8 for the past 20 days but just today my game started crashing at one particular point in a mission.
In the mission ‘Three Leaf Clover’, after I rob the bank and try to cover my team mates.. My game crashes to the desktop giving a “GTA IV has stopped working” message. Every time I play the mission my game crashes at that exact same point.
I have come so far in the game and it has NEVER crashed even once till I reached this mission! And I have no other parallel missions to complete so I’m stuck in the game now!
This is so frustrating Rockstar. I hope You stop coming out with lame patches and come out with one BIG patch that fixes everything or at least fix the major game crashes!

Using a Nvidia 7950 GT. I have the missing textures as well as a jacked up HUD (and when you hit esc to access menu, nothing really appears). I installed the beta patch (180.84), tried a variety of graphics setting permutations, and several other suggestions I’ve seen posted about to no avail. I’ve seen posts of other folks with the 7950 having similar issues, but haven’t seen any solutions posted other than the beta driver suggestion. Any ideas?
After installing gta I can play the game ONE time and then once I reboot after that one time the Windows login screen wont come up, it causes my windows to not load the login screen at all unless booted in safe mode. I have had to reinstall xp 2 times to remedy this problem. Is it something stupid I am overlooking that could be causing this? If not anyone wanna trade my gta for something else?

Hi, Similar problem to ‘Angry GTA Fan’ but different. I bought GTA IV and I put disc 1 in and when it gets to the “Insert Disc 2″ e.t.c the disc wont eject. There is no fault with my PC and if I cancel the installation, I can eject the disc but thats stupid. (I have all minimum requirements and Windows XP with the service pack).

Quite often when a video sequence is about to start it sort of freezes, there is some moving animation, like smoke, fans and such like, but i have to force quit the game, its starting to piff me off. I got a C2D E8400 o/c @ 3.75Ghz, 680i Mobo, 8GB DDR2 800 and a 8800GTS 640MB, got the latest beta drivers from NVIDIA, which it recommends and im running VISTA x64.

For those who have crappy systems. YOUR PC WILL NOT RUN THIS GAME! You must at least have a decent cpu, a dual core minimum, you must have a high end video card NO exceptions, you MUST have more than 1 gig of memory. GTA is a cpu and graphics card intensive game. So if you dont have a heavy duty gamming rig you main as well shelf this one guys or wait 5 years to play it.
Well, I have a quad core 2.2, 2gb 1066Mhz RAM, and 9600GT 1Gb.
A friend of mine has core duo 2.0, 1gb 800Mhz RAM, and a crappy 256Mb graphic card and still he can play it, I can’t because of stupid errors that have a Rockstar solution “reinstall the game”. After reinstalling the game 10 times you realize it’s just not worth it. I’ll wait for some miracle patches if they ever come out.

My Solution:
Clean format -> no installations but essential windows sp3+net frame 3.0 + sp1.
Latest Nvidia 180.48 drivers -> override game settings -> set global settings to your likings.

I/O usually has to do with either your HDD or Optical media connection. Bad sectors on the game itself or your HDD is off. Either way – that aint good..
Ok, so far, I haven’t seen anyone with my problem. I run setup for GTA IV, everything works out smoothly until I get to the last stage. It says “your system is incompatible with %P, please follow the link below for furthur information”. I turned the firewall off and everything. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I fix it? GTA IV Fatal Error WS10 … This was really annoying, but not anymore.
I got this fricking error every time I launched the game. EVERYTHING was installed properly. Latest Windows Live components, patch to XP for Live, patch to GTA IV, latest drivers, etc.
I took the advice of a post above this one, and ran the first patch for GTA4 AGAIN (dated 12/12/2008). WITH Rockstar Games Social Club Running.
No reboot, and the WS10 error went away.

RMN40 error means SP3 for XP is not installed. Check the OS details to make sure the SP3 patch installed properly.
Click Start/Run and type:
winmsd.exe
Press enter.
Version should show:

Also-
If you followed the tip from Post# 75 (create shortcut, enable compatibility mode for Windows 2000 to fix a freeze issue at start), GTA4 will think you’re running in Windows 2000 and produce a RMN40 error!
Disable app compatibility via the shortcut or by right-clicking on the EXE, going to properties, and selecting the “Compatibility” tab. Sometimes you need to change it directly on the EXE, even if you made the change against a shortcut.

Fix for WS10 Error.
I had this problem and here is how I fixed it.
Uninstalled all “Microsoft games for windows live” in add/remove programs.
(should be 2 of those programs to remove,”Microsoft games for windows live” and “Microsoft games for windows live redistributable”)
Then uninstalled the game.
Ran CCleaner
Restarted PC
Reinstalled GTAIV, clicked play on the Social club and
Social club forced me to update Windows live with the latest “Microsoft games for windows live” and it provided a direct link, installed that.
Ran GTAIV… NO ERROR
HEAD SHOT!!!
Also just my opinion. PC’s worst port on release in history or the worst that I’ve encounterd. It really seems they pushed it out the door just in time for christmas shoppers.

Your PC will not run this game. In-fact you PC probably wont run any games that have came out in the past 5-6 years. Please pay attention to “Minimum Requirements” when buying PC games.

I got a problem where I’ll be playing GTA IV and out of random, the game completely freezes and just stops working. Everything is frozen. I can CRTL ALT DEL my way out of it, but then the game isn’t saved and it just sucks! It seems to happen a lot when I’m in the main part of the city.
I’ve got a Core2Quad Q9450, ATi Radeon 4870 and 4GB of RAM.. any solutions?

I have the same problem as 355, which a lot of others on this forum have been reporting. I have an HD4870 512mb and have Vista 64 on my hdd which the game would run on but randomly freeze (blocky screen, sound judder, then nothing)either in game or in a menu etc… Emailed Rockstar tech support, they said install latest Ati drivers, game patch, and for some reason Rivatuner v2.22. Anyway did all that and the game still freezes.
Reading some other forums i found Win Xp users seemed to be fairing quite well so yesterday i went and brought a second hdd and installed it with my old copy of XP and applied sp3 etc… The game seemed great at first i managed to do 1st mission and do a bit of multiplayer but then, all of a sudden, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
So if there’s one thing i can clarify its that these problems are not solely related to the OS you are running, more likely related to hardware. I notice a lot of people with this freezing problem have 4870’s so i am now looking at what ‘Flasher’ in number 277 says and updating my VBIOS somehow, maybe that will finally relieve these problems.

1) Crash to desktop with Resc10 error
This happens after I’ve been playing for a little while and then press Esc to go to the menu. The cause is apparently a video memory leak. It can be prevented by lowering your texture resolution by one notch. I started out at high and moved to medium, which resolved it.
2) Game completely freezes, with looping juddering sound. Cannot alt-tab or ctrl-alt-del – only hard reboot.
This total freeze appears to happen randomly from a minute to twenty minutes of gameplay. I have never experienced a crash like this in Vista that actually breaks the O/S and requires a hard reboot. No error message, so no idea how to fix. Help?

For those of you who are having the “Freeze” issue, as I was, have alook at the temperature of your Videocard.
I had just bought the EVGA Nvidia 9800GTX+(512) to replace me EVGA Nvidia 8600(256)and thought I was all set until the game kept freezing. I went to http://downloads.guru3d.com/ and downloaded/installed Rivatuner V2.22. On the main page of Rivatuner under “Driver Settings” there is a Tab called Customize, click on that, then on System Settings and make sure your Fan is turned up to atleast 75%(mine is turned up to 100%). I’m not sure why the setting was tunred down so low(35%)from the factory, however after making that adjustment the game runs great at 1600 x 1200 at medium/high settings.

Following up to number 358, i have managed to update the VBIOS of my HD4870 graphics card with files from the manufacturer using the same method as described in number 277 (Thanks to ‘Flasher’ for that);-)
I also have the sapphire version so downloaded http://us.sapphiretech.com/driver/478.zip, and used UltimateBootCD to boot into DOS mode and apply the update.
The freeze issue i was getting virtually every time i ran the game seems to have been resolved, just tried it for about 30 mins after updating and the it ran without freezing even in places where it would definitley freeze before, so fingers crossed!
Can’t say if it will work for all other manufacturers but its definitley worth a go.

This download includes updates and after i installed and restarted i could run rockstar club just fine.

#328 Danny, This choppiness you are on about, do you mean fps lag? this could be coz of intensive areas in the game that use several effects like car headlights, the more there are the more your cpu will be used, also this probaly happens because your processor is not dual core, & the game is meant to be played on dual cores. Your other problem could be a firewall stopping windows live etc saving loading etc etc. I had this when qutting C&C3 online, i had to open some ports on router and unblock the game and it was fine there after

I have a problem and partial solution for some people experiencing the same situation. I have successfully installed GTA4 on my pc that has the following specs:
P4 quad-core q6600
Gefore 9800 gtx+
3 gigs of pc5300
Windows Vista SP1
When I open up the RSGS and click “play” it minimizes the menu launches the launchgtaiv.exe and never loads the game. It looks like its trying to and then it just brings up the RSGS menu again. I have been able to fix this problem by disabling my internet and running the game in offline mode. It then starts the game. However, if I go into the options for like a minute it crashes to desktop without any errors. Or it I start the game, right before it says the name of the first mission (right after the loading screen) it crashes to desktop. This is a legal, purchased version of GTA4. I can’t figure out how to fix the crashing part of even run the game in normal mode. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions please let me know. My computer should easily be able to handle this game.
When I put in disc 2 during the installation of gta 4 (when the notice tells me to)and press ok the intallation programs stops responding.

I am using NVIDIA GE force 7025. I have the “Missing textures problem”.
For People With DVD INSTALL PROBLEMS:
Since the error is occurring at the same place for everyone, I think the location is EXACTLY where the DVD layer-change occurs on the DVD. These discs are dual-layer, and it’s possible some DVD drives are having trouble with “layer change” on second disc.
If possible, please try a different DVD Drive (e.g. use an external DVD-Rom), or update your DVD drive’s firmware, or BOTH. BTW – your DVD Drive should be no more than about a 2 years old!
Here’s a GREAT site for DVD firmware updates. They provide links to the manufacturer for 1000’s of disc drives:

Check the temperature of your videocard with a program called Rivatuner 2.22. I had the same problem, but it stopped once I increased the Fan speed of my videocard to 100%, videocard was overheating.

OK, i´ve downloaded GTA IV from the internet for PC & there where the data of the dvd´s butit was compressed each cd in a .iso document. I´ve extracted them whit no problem, but now, the problem is that when I start the Autorun.exe file there appears a problem that says:[...] an error has ocurred (-5001 : 0xffffec75)[...]. Hola gente, me he descargado de internet el GTA 4 para PC y venia en dos archivos (.iso). Se llaman GTA IV DVD 1 y GTA IV DVD 2.
Los he extraido y he intentado instalar. Alpinchar sobre el Autorun.exe aparece un cuadro de error que dice lo siguiente:
Se ha producido un error (-5001 : 0xffffec75)al ejecutar el programa de instalación.
También pone algo de cerrar todos los demás programas (que lo hago) y de esperar a que terminen otras instalaciones actuales, pero no tengo ninguna instalación funcionando a la vez que el instalador del GTA IV.

Also having the same problem as matsod (post 83). Install freezes at about 1% of disc 1, on cnt.bik file. I’ve tried about 6 installs. Would appreciate any suggestions.

the game runs fine and smooth but when i start a mission the game keeps loading and loading and crashes
you know, i figured the cnt.bik issue was just my dvd drive taking literally a half hour per disc. That one file took me about 6 minutes. The install is crawling along right now. I’ll come back to the forum for support when I actually starting getting in-game errors

Replying to my own problem on post 393: The installation was going SO SLOW that I had to make an ISO file out of disc 2 because my DVD drive would stop reading after a few seconds. I got through disk 1 by just clicking “Explore disk” when it was in the drive, this would cause it to spool up and the install would continue working after freezing for a few minutes. Unfortunately this did not work on disc 2, and for some reason explorer.exe would stop working whenever I tried this spool method. Like I said, I had to create an ISO file so the install could read information off of my hard disk. Rockstar really Fubar’d this game on PC format.

The game was working fine until recently due to unknown resan crashes to desktop as soon as it starts to load textures. Meaning that as soon as i get out of the safe house the performance slows down until eventually within 2 to 3 seconds crashes to the desktop.

I will not waste a half second to tell my disgusting experience with GTA IV. I’ve played Call of Duty 4, 5 with highest resolutions. I’ve played others games and all worked fine with me. The QUESTION here is not how fast your damn computer is. THis is not the question for GTA IV. All the problems take us to the source of GTA IV issues= the Rockstar Games! Solution? A great and complete PATCH! Not a damn patch!

fixed the problem with the camera always going down! I’ve changed the compatibility mode to Windows NT4.0 and the problem was gone!

Heya im having trouble installing GTA 5 on my laptop. it keeps saying that my laptop is not compatable with %P but i can’t figure out what it’s talking about. Anyone lend me a hand?
I found a way about the freeze during game play problem.
My GTA IV Freeze about 1 or 2 min with gameplay and i need to restart Windows.
How i solve this problem.
Create a file named commandline.txt with this content:
-windowed
Put this file in the GTAIV.exe folder.
This will make GTA start in Windowed mode, and in this mode, it will not freeze. At least work for me.
There’s a lot of commands you can you in this file, included -safemod
If you want more details about this file i suggest google gta iv pc commandline.txt

Written on a screen & with out Installing any thig Finish comes.
Every time I try to do the mission right after Michelle betrays you, the game crashes my entire computer to the boot screen as if I hit the power button. Everything else works fine but I will never be able to get past this mission.
I have direct x 9c and gta keeps telling me i need to install direct x.

I managed to get mine running with patch 1.0.2.0, but was unstable and froze computer after 5min, was memory leak causing this! I set up a commandline.txt. I have the retail game of GTA IV.
I played and finished the game.
I then deinstalled it. (Complete deinstall)
I just went back to install it agian and my computer now say’s that there is nothing on my DVD disk.
I took it to another computer and the disk worked fine.
What’s going on?

So I’ve been waiting for a DAMN PATCH and when it comes to life, installed and nothing yet= game still crashing!!!…. Ok I’ve waiting for a NEW and HELPFUL patch… A second patch on the way= AGAIN! Game “STILL” crashing after some minutes.
There is one last breath for try to play= PLAY IT IN WINDOWED MODE.

Do not bother trying to fix your computer, try updating your dvd drive, make sure its dual layer, if still doesnt work get a new one, i had this problem for weeks, tryed so many things, defragging, reinastalling xp, this worked for me straight away after installing a new dvd drive.

# 455, don’t be st**** man. Your graphic card is very slow to get GTA IV running stable (40 fps or more) in high settings. For a good play, go to graphic settings under game and then click on “auto-detect”. Even with my Sapphire HD 4850 i cant play on highest res @ 1680×1050.
As I figure out so far, problems related with this game are about crashes, not about performance. Rockstar games must keep an eye with crashes issues…

I was having random lock-ups, which necessitated hard-resets each time. I tried Flasher’s suggestion above – flashing the Vbios, and it seems to have worked perfectly. Give it a go if you are getting freezes with a Radeon 4870 HD.

I see that people still have problems with the game. I had too. First time, I downloaded a rip (not the original one) but it didnt work. The game crashed to desktop with no error. I was really mad. I started to look for a solution and found alot too but guess what: None of them worked. Then I dled the original one, installed it, and it worked!! I was really happy to finally play the game. But a week ago, when I was about to play again, It crashed like the first time. I was really suprised, one day it works than tomorrow it crashes??!! I reinstalled the game, but it still crashed. I was furious, and uninstalled the game for sure. Now I decided to reinstall it today because I was getting bored with other games. So I gave it try and it worked!!! The game is running again… Dont know how dont know why.

Ok, I have been having a “Data Transfer Error” for a while and could not install GTA 4. When someone told me to check the CD for scratches I noticed several spots from water that had spilled onto the disk. I just wiped it off with a LCD screen cleaning cloth and it installed perfectly.
If you are having this problem I strongly suggest cleaning the disk with the softest material you can find.

and i put the disk 1 in and there comes a window up. Right away there is a problem i cant see anything on it? there are some strange symbols on it and some numbers “89e07e1d100″ (probably some wrong programming) but there is also a small box and a large box. i pressed the small one because i thought it was NEXT but just closed down the window so i tried the large on and it started some instilation wizzard or some crap. after that there came a new windo but here Nico was on the backround and i could see evrything so i pressed next, next, next and finaly install. but i guess that’s not enough it took like 10 seconds and it went to next page and there it say “your system is INCOMPATIBLE with %P Follow the link below for more information” so i pressed the link but nothing happend. i have a problem, when i’m playing teh mission “threes a crowd” or something like that, and at the end when i go to the clothe shop, and messages pop up like usual, then as long as i move, the whole screen start to go crazy, the pixels are messed up, even i quite the game, it still is messed up, and i had to restart the computer. any ideas?????
My problem is that, when I throw a grenade and it explodes my game freezes and then crashes with Windows saying that Grand Theft Auto IV has quit unexpectedly (I am using Vista with the latest drivers). The same thing also happens when the game has got to do a lot of rendering. I am using a Nvidia GTX 285 at 1900 x 1200 and medium/high settings.

Update to the latest service packs (SP1 for Vista, SP3 for XP).
As for my problem (post 288), GTA IV managed to run well without crashing for a bit, but now it’s going back. Occasional memory re-seats help (a bit) and I’m defragging again at the moment, but the game has been crashing on me all day long. It’s so annoying that I don’t run into any error messages to debug (even Event Viewer gives me a POS definition), yet my game runs completely smoothly (maxed out except for textures and view distance).

Just you have to make a new user in your windows
to make one first go to:
Start —> Control Panel —> User Accounts (This In Classic View In Control Panel Window) —> Then Create a New Account
Then Name It Anything You Want…Then Install gta iv and you done! i hope this work…i tried this on windows xp only..

I AM FACING PROBLEM WHILE PLAYING GA IV ON MY PC.AFTER PLAYING THE GAME FOR A FEW SECONDS THE SCREEN STARTS FLICKERING TO A GREAT EXTENT MAKING IT UNPLAYABLE.IT STOPS AFTER SOMETIMES AND AGAIN STARTS AFTER FEW SECONDS OF DELAY.IT CONINUES TO HAPPEN EVEN IN THE HIGHEST AS WELL AS LOWEST GRAPHICS DETAILS BOTH.IHAD APPLIED BOTH THE OFFICIAL GTA IV PATCH ALSO BUT THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE…
ONE MORE THING I NOTICE THAT IN THIS SITUATION WHEN I SIT IN THE CAR IT AUTOMATICALLY STARTS TO DRIVE FORWARD AND CANT BE STOPPED THEN. THE GAME IS UNPLAYABLE AND I REALLY WANT TO PLAY IT….PLEASE HELP ME OUT FOR GOD SAKE…PLZZZ

the error im having is when i click the icon to launch the game nothing happens. i uninstalled sp3 so i can use a xbox360 controller, which the game is compatible with, but i think i need sp3 to play does anyone know how i can play gtaiv with my controller???
GTA IV Caused a severe crash after one minute of playing that my machie suddenly reboots. now the issue I statet previously here that message from securom that I have no disk, proved to be a severe DVD break down. seems that GTA destroys DVD/CD drives when crashing…
I have installed to latest patches updated latest ATI radeon drivers and still it hangs my computer like nothing else.
Service pack 1 for Vista-64 bit. (ATI-radeon 4850 catalyst version 9.2 with latest drivers)
I don’t dare to start it again in the fear of more HW failures this game causes. I will have to refound my money on this one!!! I also bought other games like Burnout paradise and GTR-Evolution they work just fine. I mentioned this as a reference => other games work fine but GTA IV is absolutely devestatingly bad crashes and destroys a DVD/CD rom for me…. I had to change my DVD/CD rom so my HW is upp and running again, but not GTA IV…
Any last words for GTA IV players out there that I could do before refounding the game???

When I am taking ‘Roman’ To The Place He Wants…he should go out the car and talks with niko..but he still in the car and nothing do…just the camera keep moving normally and the other people who walks…can walk..and if i click on “ESC” it will fuck up…then i have to shut down my pc and open it again…

hey guys and girls… ive bought GTAIV pc version and it installed fine, and played fine… but now when i start the game up and get started playing it, after about 5 maybe 10 minutes the game’s framerate slows right down, it doestn crash i can keep playing it but it’s really jerky and really slow… ANY IDEA’S ON HOW TO FIX PROBLEM.. thanks

If you have that %P problem, run the setup in compatibility mode for xp, i’m runnin win 7 beta (BIG MISTAKE)… but now i got more probz… FINALLY GOT THE GAME UP AND RUNNIN, runnin the GTA icon in compat mode for win 2000 and Rock str in normal… But now my prob is first time i ran the game, all i could see was the car, 1 or 2 pedestrians and the night sky (a few ligt glows aswell) Specs are

Well, i guess i left out that i ran benchmark and then went back to the game, seemed to work, thought it was a glich, then save the game and when it reloaded ALL i could see was Night sky and light glows… benchmark didn’t seem to work again but i reloaded again and it did… its just bloody annoying…
I had the same problem as you PLZ any ideas!!! , only night sky etc. and it was fixed by updating my nVidia drivers.
However I think that GTA IV doesn’t work on Win7 yet. It doesn’t even have full support for nVidia or ATI drivers. It’s yet a beta.

As you can see in no way are my computer specs not good enough to play this game.I have installed the patches for gta and have the latest graphics card drivers installed.Does anyone have a solution for this it usually does it after about 20-30 minutes of gameplay.and on random times in the game.Should i turn the graphics settings down ? or should i adjust my 3d settings for the gtx 295 dont know what to do.
Hi, in answer to the previous question from Matt, I had the same problems, turned out that GTA IV didn’t like me having more that 2GB of RAM, check this with some microsoft websites and other tech forums, and they all said that Windows basically had trouble using the 3rd Gb of RAM that I had and thus caused crashes and freezes every 20-30mins or so. So all I can suggest is to take some RAM out, down to 2GB if poss, see if that works, then try to add the extra RAM back in to see where the threshold is.

WELL, THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THE PEOPLE IS THE STUTTERING. WELL U SHOULD UNDERCLOCK YOUR GPU, I USED RIVATUNER 2.24, WENT INTO THE DRIVER SETTINGS AND THEN WENT INTO THE OVERCLOCKING OPTION AND REDUCED CORE CLOCK, SHADER CLOCK AND MEMORY CLOCK BY 10% TO 15% DEPENDING ON YOUR GPU. AND ITS DONE, NO STUTTERING AND FREEZING IN GTA 4 PC. HOPE IT HELPS U.
FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOUR CORE CLOCK IS DEFAULT AT 900, THEN 10% OF 900 IS 90. SO REDUCE IT TO 810. DO THE SAME FOR ALL THREE. HOPE IT HELPS YOU.
NOTE : DONT FORGET TO DELETE THE COMMANDLINE FILE AND REMOVE ANY OTHER TWEAK YOU HAVE DONE BEFORE. PLAY WITH ORIGINAL FILES.
Gday gusy just wanted to let you know that i did some test last night and it seems to be running fine without doing the above mentioned things.I found that when i put the settings 1280 x 1024 and the refresh rates at 75mhz instead of 65 and also put the graphics at medium i had no problems or freezes.At the point where i was having problems like when i go to kill vlad it worked fine with no freezes after performing these changes.The one thing i will try tonight is putting all of my graphics setting back up high with the refresh rate staying at 75 if this works i know it was the refresh rate that needed to be increased.And if it doesnt i know that the graphics need to be droped back down in certain areas as i will try and achieve the highest graphics settings without getting freezes.Yes i know that my computer should be able to handle this easy but its not the computer it self Ram Graphics cards ETC its the game software itself.You just have to find a happy place for it to run until more of the patches and fixes are availiable.I will do another post once i have done more test.By the way i played for 1 hour straight and no problems on those settings medium on all graphics settings/ 1280 x 1024/75 refresh rate/

Ah,i fix the problem about the code error RMN 40.You install gta social club,after installation you enter social club and wait the login sign appear.Just skip login and voila you are now in bussiness.Create and offline account to save you game

A fix for problem 4 freezing, that worked for me. Set your detail distance and view distance to the same number, or don’t set your detail distance higher than your view distance.

Everything worked fine in the begining….i am a member both in windows games- live and in a rockstar game social club ..
after that the instalation began it worked smoothly then it asked for the CD2 and it worked okej, but at the end it asks for the CD1 again to complete the instalation..i swiched disks again but it wont work..it is saying still that i need to but CD1…
i tryed to install game many thimes but i always come to this problem.. CD1 is in the compter and it still says that i need to put in CD1 to complete the installation. When i click on a ok button it works fine a few sekonds, a new window comes up and it says “Installing games for windows – LIVE components” and then suddenly it disapear and it says again that i need to put CD1 even it is the raight CD in a computer. And it is goning over and over by clicking on the ok buttton.
I am a fan and i hope that you gays kan help me whit this problem.

After so much reading about these errors, none of the solutions (are there any) did it for me. And even so, my trust in this game running smoothly and reliable on Windows in the future is completly gone.
I decided to remove my pc version and make room for Far Cry 2 (which is an example of a stable, good looking and fast loading kick ass game).

Every time I try to run GTA IV it just says it encountered a problem. lol.
It used to bring up a DOS box for like 3 seconds and then say it encountered a problem and had to close, now all it does is just bring up the little windows error box and that’s it.
Was Rockstar high when they made this game or something? I’ve never seen so many errors being spoken about for anything.

My card is a Nvidia 7300 GT, and before anyone says anything I know that’s under the requirements.
BUT:
I can run Fallout 3 AND Mirror’s Edge just fine and they have similar if not identical system requirements to this game.
I know it may just be my hardware, but it should at least get to the main menu before crashing I would think.
also, for the install everything in the redistributable folder, whenever I try to run the program “wmpappcompat,” nothing happens, at least nothing I can see.
Is it just one of those simple programs that finishes in like a second so you don’t notice it?

To Stop this error and cont. with installation without error.
1)Right click on the setup.exe on your GTA disc.
2)Goto Properties
3)Goto the Compatibility Tab
4)Tick Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP, accept changes then install.
5)Sit back and wait for it to install (its normal to take ages)
Shouldn’t it run if you download it off the CD? I am running Vista, and it i did put it to run under XP Service Pack 2, but it stills gives me errors and i am pretty sure i have downloaded everything.

This game is the biggest piece of garbage that I’ve ever seen. I’ve already wasted over 3 hours trying to install it, and it still doesn’t work.
All the Social Club + Windows Live is bullshit. Now I have the same problem with some above, in which when I double-click on the game icon, the game appears as though it is going to start, but it doesn’t.
I don’t want to play on-line, I don’t want on-line friends. I want a goddamn game that works. Back to the store with it.

I Dont really know why its slow.. but… here are SOME options.
1.Try using –noprecache and –nomemrestrict. Im not sure it works but its worth a try.
2.Update your drivers for Graphics card. Nvidia has some drivers that boost the fps a little bit..

I bought A copy Of GTA IV it installed just fine. even though it was a horror to install, i started playing and all of a sudden the screen started spinning. like the character was drunk. i thought it was normal but when i read the walkthrough’s. it didn’t say anything about it. also the cars accelerate by themselves. BIG dissapointment cause you get too dizzy to even play the game!

i also have a problem. when i mount dvd 1, everything installs smoothly, but when i have too mount second dvd, when i put in browse text, computer freezees. i’ve tryed 2 different gta versions, and also tryed with daemon tools, power iso and alcohol 120%. it just don’t work!

OK I have a problem thats pissing me off. During the mission, “Payback” that you have to do for Jimmy Peggorino, you have to go to the diner in a vehicle. My problem is when you get to the diner, i get the “loading..” black screen and it keeps going and going without loading the rest of the mission.

But when setup reaches to 3rd DVD an error occurs says
“Cyclical Redundancy Error”.
When i try to copy 3rd DVD I m unable to copy “data6.cab” from DVD with same error.
The shopper Strictly Refused to Return the DVD.
Anyone Plz. Help i m in big trouble.. where can i find “data6.cab”

Hi. i got a copy free from the GTA IV MAXIM promo. i think the dvd they gave me is defective because the install bar will not continue. My PC can handle this game it is quad core and use 9800GT and 4gb of ram on vista windowsm i tried restarted my pc and everytime i do that and attempt an install, the install progress will stop at different spots. help me i really want to play this game.
In GTAIV when I play a game sometimes no sky is seen even in day & morning & sometimes when sky is seen the land buildings & textures are not seen in the game.There is also transparency problem in my game means objects are seen along the body of NIKO BELLIC

Hey all, I’m having a slight problem with my GTAIV. It’s related (I think) to my Acer computer. When I try and play every 30-40 seconds a setting in my tray (where the clock is) gets changed and minimises the window. The setting is the Acer bio protection (fingerprint scanner) and I don’t know why it changes. It makes it pretty impossible to play and I can’t seem to fix the conflict. Any suggestions?

I have a serious error. When playing the game i alt – tab it to use my screen recorder. Sometimes the game alt – tabs normally after about 30 sec. But other times the whole computer crashes and restarts when the computer turns back on it says the system hes recoverd from a serious error. The game is running on mid to low graphics and all my perks are over the maximum anyone got a fix? please this is stuffing up my system.

I swear this will be the last game I’ll buy without doing previous search.
I’ve been trying to install this crap for the last 5 hours.
First I got to update my Windows Vista with the service pack 1 because I was stuck with the install menu error.
Then I finally started installing it.
Then I had a huge headache just to get the social crap working. I wont even play GTA on the Internet still I had to make a gamecard for windows live then that account linking deal messed with my head.
When I clicked play I got the problem of many as it seemed it was about to start but anything happened after that.
Then I did the reboot and tried playing it again. The matroska menu showed up as it finally seemed like it would start but no.
WS10 error or whatever you call it.
Then I remove all my live crap run the patch they had there to be downloaded try play the game and….
The game has stopped working.
How awesome..
Now I uninstalled the game and will try installing it again.
If I get the same errors I’m just gonna pick have to pay 25 bucks on a technician to install this for me, but If I can’t do it I’ll have a laugh at him trying to do it for me tomorrow and then I’ll put all this anger i’m feeling right now on him.
I can’t deliever the game back as I opened it otherwise I would do it.
Yesterday I was so looking forward to play this game.
Today I buy it then came back home thinking it would be really awesome, and till this.

I have a problem that when the game opens after the loading of last saved game than when i reached to the mission and i sit in the car the game starts jerking and the car is out of control the car is moving itself this happens when ever i sit in the car please send me the repily quickly so that i can solve my problem
I went ahead and installed the game and did a manual activation (what a nightmare). This game took forever to install.
I got a couple of file errors during the install. It stated that they didn’t match the cab file.
Now everything is installed and I started the game up.
All it does is say “Loading” !!!!
This is the SHITTIEST piece of software I’ve ever had the displeasure of installing on my pc.
If I can’t find a fix I will be contacting Rockstar and demanding a refund. This is complete BS.

I installed the program and when i click on play the screen becomes black as if to start it goes for little while and then suddenly the error comes “GTA4 FATAL ERROR:RESC10″.
this is the worst softare i have ever installed.
the setup is installing in another language and after installtaion it does not work it says some .dll file is missing i dont remember the file name and while uninstalling it says to find the path rgsc.exe to uninstall.
Windows Vista problem. I’m playing the game normally when all of a sudden it freezes for about 3 seconds and this message shows up :the program stopped working. then it says windows is trying to find a solution. after about 5 seconds the game turns off. i don’t know or have any idea of why this game isn’t working. it is really pissing me off because i just got the game. I could go and swap(see if it works than) or i could get my money back and keep in my mind that GTA IV is a crap game.

It says to reinstall the game. So do that. If it still does that, then you installed it wrong(i think)
juicer, Dont know much bout pirated versons. but maybe some suggestions.
Try switching the crack.exe and see if that works. Get the real game(unless you cant then dont do this -.-) Try reinstalling and updating and patching again.

I just got GTA IV for my PC. I have all the requirements. I found no problems in installing the game and when it was done i started it. the loadin and the starting movie worked just fine and then the shit came up. When the gameplay started , there were no roads, no building. and by no roads i mean none under the car i was in too. and there was water everywhere. the car falls into the water, the mission fails and there u have it F**kin GTA IV! I cud see sum buildings at a distance. The fps was great! Great speed. No crashes and all. JUST NO BUILDINGS OR ROADS!! PLZ PLZ Help me out here!
I put the disk in, try to install it…. but nothing happens. A window just pops up, and as soon as I go to click on it it stops responding… I know my computer can easily handle this game due to all the parts being brand new, but does anyone have any idea why it won’t work?? Nathan, Uhh 1.try manual installing(Open Gta 4 disk and run the Setup.)
2. Might be the Dvd-Rom not reading the data correctly(maybe not :S)
3. Return it and get a new disk. Perfect condition doesn’t mean its bad.

hello, I’ve got an install problem too. Everything goes fine on disc1 . Then it asks for 2nd disc , when I insert second disc nothing happens, installation stops working. The discs are working fine I installed the game many times before. But couldn’t get it working this time. what could be the problem?
btw my problem is very similar to Nathans, although as I’ve said before I installed the game before and the discs are working fine. I’ve tried to install it manually but it didn’t work. And It’s not possible to return the disc as the shop I bought went bust

After playing GTA IV for a while (always different), the screen freezes. Sometimes i’m lucky and can kill the procress with task-manager…if that happens, windows runs slowly after that. If it DOESN’T work, windows crashes completely and i have to reboot. i guess there is a problem with the driver of my graphics cards: sometimes windows shows me that a nv4_**and-so-on**.dll didn’t run properly. but that problem suddenly appeared!! i have the latest version of the nvidia drivers…..

To those encountering .cab files similar to Unreal Tournament 3 , heres a possible solution ,works for me good luck. …. pull off internet cable,disable firewall and anti-virus , then everytime after installing each disc , eject your disc and let it cool down for like 5 minutes , then place the next and continue , i tried installing UT 3 and GTA IV for like more than 20 times already,this fixed it . hope this helps
hi there… i just installed gta 4 and mine is SP3 and my graphic card is HD 4850 and the problem is that when ever i start the game i am able to play the game for 15-20 mins max … and in that time span the game runs very smoothly with no problem at all… but after 15-20 mins the game crashes and the pc freezes… i aint able to get back on the desktop i tried CTRL+ALT+DEL…. that does not work…. tried by pressing the windows key plus D to minimize as well as ALT+TAB… that also did not work… basically i tried all the possible step to get back on the desktop but could not go… so i always end up rebooting my pc…. please help me out… its driving me nuts…. to be honest im kinda bad with these software things and hard to understand so please help me in detail if possible…

Hey guys, I would really appreciate your help: I bought GTA IV one year ago and until last week, I’ve never installed any patch. But then I saw the Native Trainer 4.6, and I wanted to use it. But I saw that this trainer was for patch 1.0.0.4. So, I downloaded the patch, and everything was working fine until yesterday: The patch was ok, and the trainer too. But I saw the upgrade for that trainer, the Native Trainer 4.7. So, I wanted to download it and upgrade mine. The problem is the greediness… WHY THE F**** DID I DOWNLAODED THAT F****ING UPGRADE??? Well, but when I downloaded it, everything went wrong. My GTA IV opens, loads, but when it finishes loading, appears a fatal error message on the screen, and I’m forced to close the game. Here’s the error’s code: “GTA IV Fatal Error: SCRT70.” Under this message is another code: “GTA IV Fatal Error: -619723791.” And that’s it! I already tried to reinstall the game around 5 times, and I’m getting tired of this because each reinstall takes around 45 minutes! But then I saw that the problem wasn’t the trainer: it was the patch 1.0.0.4!!! Because in one of my reinstalls, I tried to don’t put the trainer files in the game files, but I only put the patch 1.0.0.4. AND THE SAME F****ING ERROR OCCURED!!! Guys, please help me!!!!!!!!!!

maybe this game is good. i’m not sure because i bought but i didn’t run. anyway apart from the fact that it didn’t run it also took more than one and a half hour to install at the end you launch the game you wait an hour for it to update and all. finally you want to play it flAShs the rockstar logo and nothing back to your desktop. you do the same prosses a few time and by few i mean 10 times. until you relize that this is fucking retarded. i don’t have enough life in me.

I just bought gta4 last year(2009) in November, I`ve installed the game sucessfully, and created an account on Windows live and also updated it, but when i try to launch the game it shows an intro and then after that it says: WS10 ERROR, i rebooted my system and also re-installed the game, i also tried running it on RGSC, but nothing happens i still face the same error. Please help cause i really wanna play this game.

Hello. I play GTA IV on my computer, having problems though. Whenever i logon to the game, it lags (Its probably my graphics card) But the strange thing is. After approximately 5minutes, the screen flashes very slightly, until 1 minute later the screen turns black and the CPU shuts down by itself. No error codes, Just shut down. I would like to seek some advice what would the source of the problem. I need to know if the problem lies in the graphics card! Thanks

Where C (in this case) is your windows instalation disk .
Your Username – Your account name on the PC / vista or xp
Copy the music there and then do a Complete Scan from Audio Menu.

I;’m running a conputer AMD X2 6000+ with an Gforce 8600 GT.
Changed resolution of texture to low and the vieuw distance also affects your memory. Game worked proper for 2 days then it crashed again. Tried to install the newest drivers, doesnt make a difference. Now i just dont play no more….

Problem: NO MENU
When GTA4 is succesfully started, the screen where you can watch movies, read news, press start, press guide, press options and press exit. It seems Start,guide, options and exit are invisible. They can’t be clicked with the mouse. However you can still use the arrow keys, you will hear the same sound, and you will be able to start the game etc. But all text will be missing. Example: When you press ESC, ingame. You will see a map. But no options above it, to click with the mouse. Again you will be able to use the arrowkeys to navigate, but everthing is invisible, each screen with any text.
A reason could be is because I installed a few mods and other software to improve/play the game.

So, after upgrading my system, I decided to give GTA4 another shot. I’ve had no issues with other games, Far Cry 2, ect.
After 3.5 hours I finally got to play the game, ONLY TO HAVE IT FREEZE after just a few minutes of play. If I were to pause the game it would freeze when gameplay resumed.
I uninstalled the game, only to see that other games, completely unrelated to GTA4 were now crashing. I had to do a system restore and reinstall the other, unrelated game.
I was going to do a system restore anyway, since GTA4 makes you install soo much CRAP just to play this piece of garbage.
I will never be buying another Rockstar product again.
One good thing that came from this, I will never again buy a PC game without reading lots of reviews, so at least this will never happen to me again (hopefully).
