It’s official guys… No Starcraft 2 this year. In a locked thread, Cydra (an assistant RTS community manager) posted this grave news.

Today we announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will not be ready for release by the end of 2009. Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game. The upgraded Battle.net is an integral part of the StarCraft II experience and will be an essential part of all of our games moving forward. This extra development time will be critical to help us realize our vision for the service.

Our mission is to develop games that deliver an epic entertainment experience. As part of that commitment, we will always take as much time as needed to ensure that our games and services meet the expectations of our players and the standard for quality that we set for ourselves as developers. As we work to make Battle.net the premier online gaming destination, we’ll also continue to polish and refine StarCraft II, and we look forward to delivering a real-time strategy gaming experience worthy of the series’ legacy in the first half of 2010.

We will share more details about the beta, Battle.net, and StarCraft II’s launch in the future. Keep an eye on the official website at http://www.starcraft2.com for updates, and as always, thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support for StarCraft II and all of Blizzard Entertainment’s games.

(Almost) Everyone saw this coming. With the beta still nowhere in sight and it’ already August, There’s no way that Starcraft 2 will be released this year.  According to Cydra’s post, the cause of Starcraft 2’s delay is Battle.net 2.0. It has been announced before that LAN play will not be supported by Starcraft 2 and that connecting to Battle.net will be the only way to play with your friends. I’d hate to speculate but things could be different if they put LAN back in the game or shall I say, “leave it in” since it’s already in the current build of Starcraft 2 (How else could they play Starcraft 2 multiplayer in battle reports and Starcraft 2 exhibitional tournaments?). Starcraft 2’s release being delayed by Battle.net 2.0 also means that Diablo 3 wont be released anytime soon.

Mike Morhaime hinted in E3 that Starcraft will be released this year. I’m a bit disappointed that this is not gonna happen but of course, I’m not surprised. This is a Blizzard game we’re talking about here. Seems like the only thing we can hope to be released this year is the Nada vs Moon video/battlereport.

So Starcraft 2…”It’s about time” huh?

WTF! I’m beginning to lose interest with all the hype they started, I think blizzard is INSECURE, with all the great games from other developers and all, they’re just too afraid to lose face. all that glitter & glamour for a game follow-up that took more than a decade to be realized.

  19. Ciaran — August 22, 2009 @ 8:55 am

Curse you Blizzard, curse you in perpetuity. Who ever is managing that development should be brought out to a parking lot and shot, and taped on youtube, then I can forgive their insulance. Maybe they could kill them self with a wakazashi too. I dunno, but damn Blizzard you a shamefull bunch for jerking your customers around. Count me out, that chit is going to be outdated by the time it gets released.

  23. Yo.O — August 23, 2009 @ 10:48 pm

As a profesional developer, I to agree with most where Blizzard should take what ever time they need to develop and deploy Starcraft II. It happens in real life where if a developer is pushed towards a deadline, the quality of work will not be there and will be buggy. If a company gives me good amount of time to develop work, the application will be perfect.

  28. AgentAppleseed — August 26, 2009 @ 7:22 am

Back in March or the start of April I posted a message on another forum, where I said this would happen. I said it would not come out til 2010. People didnt believe me then, but I was told this, by someone who works for blizzard, and, who is also a very good friend of mine. They; those who work for Blizzard, have known the game would not be ready for this year, for a very long time now. I know for a fact, that they have known it since at least March, of 2009, when I was told the exact same thing.
Ive been really stoked about this game for a long time now, but since March, I have put the game totally out of my mind until it comes out, because Its just so head wrecking, reading about the thing, and watching out for the latest battle reports, etc. You guys should do the same.

  29. BobmcSquzzles — August 27, 2009 @ 3:05 am

what the hell thay have put this off sence forever. i am
think of just forgiting the game compleatly.every time they say starcraft II comming out soon.then it dosent. it is stuped they have put this game on the back shelf forever.

  30. Shiznizzle — August 30, 2009 @ 5:14 am

Games come and go. I have played my fair share of fps, rts and various others. There is only one game that I and thousands of others return to. Other companies release games once a month that get played for a month. Starcraft 2 is going to be the last computer game I am ever going to play, except quake. Going to spend 40-60 bucks for a game I am going to play when I am old and feeble is worth the wait. “HEY YOU DAMN KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN, I TRYING TO GET MY GAME ON!!”

Take your time and make it right, starcraft 1 is still kickarse.

  31. nonya — August 31, 2009 @ 7:27 am

you guys are ridiculous. Think about it, what other gaming company do you know of with 3 titles that can also call themselves a billion dollar gaming empire? If they want to take a bit of time so that they can ensure that they maintain that title of superb excellence, then what right do you bunch of bitchy little girls have to question them. How about you guys try to make a video game on a fixed time table first, then criticize.

  32. Ariana — August 31, 2009 @ 3:58 pm

nonya … I HAVE built a mmo on a time table working for Aria Games, Blizzard makes great games yes but, they take to much time to fix there issues, that’s what alpha and beta testing is for. We at Aria will release a new game every 6 months at equal or greater quality then Blizzard so, in my opinion they need to fire all of there crew hire real professionals and get this game out already. Guys, 10 years is way to long Blizzard so, either release your game or don’t bother releasing it at all.

  33. Shady — August 31, 2009 @ 5:52 pm

HIGH POSSIBILITY OF A DEMO LEAK!!! If you are comfortable with torrents than search it up. Remember fellas, good things come to those who wait. Chances are you will have to pay to subscribe to even get the torrent. But if your itchin to play it so bad than see if the torrent sites are true!!

  36. PhaseVariance — September 2, 2009 @ 9:36 am

I agree the wait for this has been long, but Ariana, the only games that ever beat Blizzard games are their sequels. Blizzard knows what they’re doing, so just chillax and let them make an awesome game.

omg over 10 million people play wow, and they each pay 15 USD a month. do the math and this game shoulda been out years ago

  43. llarrs — September 5, 2009 @ 1:53 pm

Ok guys i know how long its been since they said starcraft 2 is coming almost 2 years ago, Blizzard has a reputation for Awsome games starcraft, diablo. Starcraft is the only game that after 11 years still has thousands of active players making a game that legendary takes time when starcraft 2 comes out I guarantee that our kids will be killing brain cells 10 years from now on starcraft 2.!

  44. llarrs — September 5, 2009 @ 1:56 pm

omst- Blizzard is taking their time to make a better game did you think that Diablo and Starcraft 1 were created on a monthly time plot NO.! Id rather wait another 3 years for a proper remake of Starcraft than some cheap game that dissapoints Millions.

  45. Cake — September 5, 2009 @ 1:59 pm

llars : 1 noob down i guess. those who threat blizzard about losing costumers for delayed releases are probably the new guys in gaming… you know the whiny 12 year olds who are spoilt by EA with shovelware releases

  46. Randall — September 6, 2009 @ 5:31 pm

It all makes sense. 90% of these kids that can’t spell to save their lives all have the same idea. Blah Blah fuck blizzard i’m not going to play it now because it took to long. Do you realize that Starcraft came out in 97′ and 12 years later it’s still being played? You’re going to say SC2 will be outdated? People will be playing starcraft 2 well into the 20’s of the 21st century.

  47. Carlo Rivelacio — September 6, 2009 @ 8:22 pm

Starcraft2 now is under mega- ultra- sophisticated-development and it will take 100 years to release.
    :P

  48. Gooogley — September 7, 2009 @ 1:01 am

”at equal or greater quality then Blizzard”? you arrogant son of an e-slut! NAME ONE! I DARE YOU! I DOUBLE DARE YOU! And the rest of you know-you will buy the game AND LOVE AND WORSHIP IT! btw, GAMEPLAY can hardly be outdated, take wc3 for example. I think it looks like crap, BUT ITS SO DARN playable! CAN I get an AMEN!? selfish little bastards. these people gave you MONTHS and years of FREE FUN- IF ANYTHING, YOU OWE THEM TO KEEP YER TRAP SHUT! Ariana, who made the mmo genre possible? who do you copy ? I don’t even have to say it.

Blizzard rocks, and true fans will wait as long as it takes and LOVE IT!

  49. Panda — September 7, 2009 @ 3:03 am

Ariana, your games are no where near Blizzard’s, I’ve never even heard of “Aria Games”.. they took their sweet time to release World of Warcraft, and look at it now! I’d rather have a game that someone had taken their time on to perfect it rather than a rushed, horrible game. Starcraft 2 is going to be awesome, and I can wait on it.

  50. mencool — September 8, 2009 @ 11:59 am

    3 years of waiting motherf****

  51. j.t.f — September 9, 2009 @ 2:00 am

Ariana…just because you have built a game doesn’t mean its good…I have never even heard of Aria…that would be like me writing a shitty stephen king novel and then saying my book is just as good…your a little bias towards your own work. its normal to be proud of your And All you ppl on here who are complaining that it is taking to long to make this game should shut up too because we all know that if they released it now all you biotches would be back on a forum bitching about how they didn’t take their time and they should have waited longer. If you want a quality game that lives up to the original then you need to unbunch your panties and waste your time doing something else other than sitting on the internet all day counting down the minutes till they release that game.

  52. ah duh — September 9, 2009 @ 5:48 am

Starcraft II is done already? It’s battle.net that is not complete?

“…it will take longer than expected to prepare the new Battle.net for the launch of the game.”

  53. LebThug — September 9, 2009 @ 9:49 pm

Ariana: I have never heard of Aria Games, and a quick search shows that GameSpot only has 1 entry in the list of games for that company: “Yoake Yori Ruriiro na: Brighter than Dawning Blue” for PS1, whatever that is.
I just don’t think you get nonya’s point: there are plenty of companies out there with “professional” programmers that create games in 6 months, but only Blizzard takes all the time they need, do not succumb to marketing pressure, and bring out games that have been so polished that they are instant classics. Their games keep selling for years, and not one of their games is a flop.
Whatever ppl say and no matter how much they are “pissed” through all the delays, I know, from following their previous releases, that once the game is out, it will be so great that all this delay frustration will be instantly replaced by praises and gaming addictions.
Instead of lowering Blizzard to most companies standard, you should be wishing all companies were like them. They are what every gaming company should be. We would be far better off with 50 times less games a year, but all games delivering what they promise.

  54. Derek — September 10, 2009 @ 11:33 pm

At least they’re not locking away their programmers away in a dark room for 80+ hours a week with no additional pay like some software game companies have been known to do to meet a deadline.

  55. defualt158 — September 12, 2009 @ 8:33 am

im starting to think they will never release it, there to Obsessed with world of warcraft. if they dont release sc2 im going to loose all respect for blizzard.

  56. Caleb — September 13, 2009 @ 6:10 am

I agree completely with nonya. Would you rather have a game that comes out in a couple months you play half the campaign and decide it sucks or a game that takes a while to make but even 10 years down the road you’re still coming back to it. And ariana don’t even think to compare yourselves to the dirt scraped from Blizzard’s fingernail. I’ve played some or your games and they sucked sweaty ass. Bad translation and just frustrating dumb game play. And as far as taking 10 years it’s been 10 years since the release of starcraft 1 they only started making sc2 in the past couple years. So cool your heels and go play sc1 or wc3 for a while.

  57. Godfather — September 14, 2009 @ 7:47 am

Atleast they dont release rushed junk games. So they can take all the time they need.

  58. James — September 15, 2009 @ 12:37 am

I want them to do their best in programing this game, but I think i speak for everyone when i say they need to dicide on a fixed release date and stick to it. i was really looking forward to getting my copy this november until i found out that it was pushed back agian, to next june?!? Please at least send me a beta key, so i can enjoy some of the game while i wait another 5 years. I know my p.c. can use the software.

  59. mighty muffin — September 15, 2009 @ 9:12 pm

starcrarft2 is worth the ait it will be amzing and one of the resons i think it been taking so long is the improved grphics over the years they prbly been scraping ideas form ages and also they had to make the teams even.

  60. CopperBot — September 16, 2009 @ 1:37 am

This is how Blizzard has always functioned and they’ve created a massive gaming empire while doing so. It always sucks to wait but quality beats quantity every time.

  61. cyberdemon — September 17, 2009 @ 12:16 pm

IF WHAT I JUST READ IS TRUE, THEN:
How in the world can you call SC2 a gaming masterpiece, if they leave out the most important feature that all Companies who release games with thousands of titles, that matters most to LAN based gaming? The ability to play with your friends, tournaments, or whatever smackdown, right from the comfort of your home/garage/or squeeky computer chair. And don’t tell me that you pipe your crap through the worm infested, Internet A-hole to play with your buds. This feature is a standard feature, even in little old chess matches. I don’t care your reasons, Blizzard. Your excuses or futile attempts to explain or even mask your ineptitude to provide the most basic feature of any RTS, is simply astonishing to read this crap. I have follwed your company and/or games since inception, and the only thing I can think of right this moment, is you have some communist money driven idiotic brain farted idea that this would slip past us diehard LAN RTS gamers. If in fact, what is stated here is true…then I say “…..” you, Blizzard execs who made this decision. I truly hate you from the core of my gaming soul. Sure, your RTS will have the latest and greatest oooohs and aaaahs, but it don’t mean sh__ to me. No one else may care or say it quite like me, but I won’t sid idlely by and say nothing, even if it goes nowhere but this forum. I wish, I had a telephone number and an email to someone from you damn company, whom I’d give an earful. Sadly, I’m sure your sorry excuses could care less what one person has to say about changing the most promising RTS of all time. If you decide to put that feature back in (and somehow, someone, must have slapped you senseless) then, Gamers bless you for realizing it’s importance. If not, then I really wish you well as a franchise.

  62. Korther — September 18, 2009 @ 9:46 am

“wwwaaahhhhh it’s taking to long!” If they released it early, it would suck freaking balls. Then all of you would be complaining how buggy and sh*tty the game is. Let them take their time to make a good game that can last another 10+ years like Starcraft.

  63. claytonius — September 19, 2009 @ 5:32 am

i’ll bet the new wow expansion will come out before starcraft 2… i guess we know where blizzard’s priorities lie… stupid mmo’s…

  64. Isamazed@thestupidityoryouguys — September 19, 2009 @ 5:33 am

Ariana, first off, Aria games can never be truthfully boasted as a fraction better than any blizzard game (except, maybe, for starcraft ghost)! It isn’t that you guys just suck, which you do, but MMO’s just can not be equal to any other kind of game because they just suck. Blizzard makes quality games and everyone gets pissed at them because they take time to do it.
My advice to everyone that is mad at them- Keep your word and do not buy it and miss out on a great game, or shut up and be patient!

  65. AnicetusCer — September 19, 2009 @ 11:07 pm

I to think it has been a long time, however as technology moves on and people demand more detail, games will inevitably take longer to build.
I wonder how many of you have programmed anything, and if you have, you know making a good programme is often more difficult than it first appears.
I am willing to wait, think, were you disappointed by titan quest or c&c since it went to EA? how many 1st person shooters have you played that feel completely the same with no new physics, anyone try Empire:TW only for it to crash every 15 mins.

There are plenty of quickly built games out there to sate your addictions while you wait.

I for one am willing to wait for a smooth game that flows nice, has a great story, that will amuse me and not crash while i watch every bullet and fist connect with it’s opponent and not having the illusion shattered by matrix-esk rip in the terrain or a characters hair poking out through there helmet

  66. Robert — September 21, 2009 @ 6:25 am

All you that are saying that the game is taking too long are idiots the longer it takes the better the gameplay will be and the better the features that come with the game will be I already know that starcraft 2 is going to be one of the best games on teh market for YEARS once it’s released… I don’t understand how people are losing interest in the game just because they don’t get the game when they want it Battle.net will be better off without those people that are saying these things so don’t buy the game if you’ve lost interst means a more secure server for the rest of us.

  67. Tyler — September 22, 2009 @ 3:11 am

OK, so Battle.net won’t be working… how about releasing the single-player game?

  68. David M. — September 22, 2009 @ 8:33 pm

OK… so you need more time to make a spit n polish game, a bit lame considering less people took less time to put men on the moon, but i’ll give you that. What I don’t get is why a beta cant be released for wide circulation to satiate fans that are going ballistic. Hell, make them pay $50 for a beta key… THEY WILL. Then, when the game is released, give them a discount. Blizzard actually profits from this and fans feel more loyalty. win win.

  69. entd — September 27, 2009 @ 10:15 pm

Blizz don’t think a much before releasing wow, which is a peace of shit as other MMORPG. They manage to recreate million comunity of wow with every update and could not build an easy server for strategy. Also they “must” balance game to keep korean needs (one defence point and they couldn’t use defend with workers strategy , etc.) . Fuck korean league. Game must be fun not somekind making something from thing that shouldn’t work (strange strategies) think. It’s not target of games, it’s just bonus.

  72. Sneaks — September 30, 2009 @ 2:38 am

When did blizzard give a release date? I’ve been through all this before with blizz, even before WoW was out. They take time to make a good game, not a big dealio.

  74. Peter — September 30, 2009 @ 2:56 pm

I too am a little worried about the comment of LAN gaming not supported in SC2, me and a group of friends often take our computers round to a house and play SC1 on LAN. If the new battlenet is the same as orig then only one person in the household is able to connect to it via same IP address, this would mean me and my partner can no longer play together which might put me off buying the game. As for the release date im not too bothered, after all this time though I really hope all this hype is worth the wait and the game is not a flop. I guess all we can do is wait….and wait…..and wait some more

I don’t mind waiting if what they release in the end is as good as SC1. I do however mind that they want to take out lan play.

  76. Quash — October 3, 2009 @ 1:46 pm

    Please give us LAN!!! PLEASE!!!!!!

  77. tpwnzors — October 7, 2009 @ 12:31 am

WTF i don’t know the exact time that blizz announced that this game would be coming out, but i know i saw things about it back in 07, and they still don’t have an official time?! i also heard that they took over half the ppl helping to produce sc 2, and put them on the WoW section, they needa get their shit together

  78. phaqbuddy — October 7, 2009 @ 7:04 am

The making of SC2 started back either right before or right after the release of WC3-Frozen Throne. The BlizzCon in Seoul, South Korea back in April/May of 2007 announced SC2 is being release Nov 2007.

You’re telling me, that in 7 years, during the making of SC2, they didn’t have the funds/manpower/resources to release a game that is up the quality of Blizzard’s standards? And Blizzard is a multi-billion dollar gaming industry?

The CEO of Blizzard Ent needs to take a look at his roster of employees, find out whos taking that extra hour and 1/2 lunches, taking extra coffee breaks, sleeping at their desk, and fire them. If they need someone to be like Terry Tate, the office-line backer, I will gladly put my hand in the air to help get this game on track.

Im going to buy the game when it gets released, but I am not going to answer the lady at the cash register when she asks me, “How am I doing today?” My personal victory at getting back at Blizzard for making me wait.

  79. BlizzardMajorFailure — October 7, 2009 @ 11:27 pm

I am afraid by the time the game finally comes out, the technologies that it uses would be old. I mean the game has been in development for how many years now? It reminds me of another once highly anticipated game that never came out, i.e. Duke Nukem 4ever. I used to say I can’t wait for starcraft II… That was 5 years ago. Now I am thinking maybe Blizzard should ditch this miserable game they can never make and finally admit they have failed. Oh by the way, whatever happened starcraft ghost? Another miserable failure?

  80. whitley85 — October 8, 2009 @ 10:17 pm

STUPID. over half the people who have posted here are stupid.. period.. name one game that still has thousands of players still playing for free.. hell name a company that has still supported a game that they released over 10 years ago. starcraft servers are still up. you can log in right now and find a game in seconds.. granted im sure you will get worked but thats besides the point. starcraft is an amazing game.. amazing.. blizzard is amazing.. starcraft 2 will be amazing shut up.. and wait.

  81. Fuck Blizzard — October 9, 2009 @ 12:44 am

I tink blizzard is one of the most shitiest game company.Cock sucker fags hungry for some more money. That’s all they care about retards paying them tons of cash for theyre shity games , the only game that was truly something new was The lost Vikings when blizzard was called “silicone and sinapse” after that is all Warhammer in disguise, to hell theese cock sucking fags and theyre games.

  82. Russ — October 9, 2009 @ 6:33 am

Oh please.. you people complaining about blizzard and not buying the game.. get real.. you’ll be there the release date lined up and ready to buy it so shut the hell up.. this game is going to kick ass.. if it takes them a little while longer, oh well.. your not making the game so chill.. For a game like Starcraft I’m sure they don’t want any dissapointment, that’s the bottom line

  83. NumoF — October 10, 2009 @ 11:08 pm

Yo Guys. I remenber when all this discussion started a few months ago and I have heard all kinds of extremist arguments. I was 13 when I picked the game so I don’t need to say how all this info on SC2, battlereports, false release dates have been messing with my head for almost -2 YEARS-.
There’s no doubt I’ll be buying the game the day it comes out.
My only complain is that Blizzard started marketing to soon to generate interest, a.ka. real money to keep sponsoring/refining the game. It’s the way the industry keeps moving/legendary games are done and little can be done about it.
Players expectations: It’s a shame for LAN and I do hope they reconsider it since it gives players who actually BOUGHT a copy more freedom to play in their houses with friends. I use to do it. Hope others will too.
Second, I hope Blizzard keeps it’s promise of keeping Battlenet 2 free of charge except for addittional customizable features. Blizzard is more than entitled to try and get its share of extra incomes – IF – that objective doesn’t collide with making SC2 as acessible as SC1 was.
Take as long as you want guys. Just don’t take us for granted. We love your games and we love Blizzard!

  84. Artica Wolf — October 11, 2009 @ 6:11 am

wft? NO LAN?! LAn play has been part of rts gaming since waay back, why pray tell would they remove it? Ah yes, to milk that cash vow for all the $$ is sore bruised tits can produce.

Lan play = one gamer with a single copy of the game (and a second serial #) putting it on hers and another family members computers and playing together/

Battlecrap 2.0 = having to buy 2 copies = twice the cash.

Reminds me why Hamachi is so dang handy and whyWoW has private servers…

  85. TJMR — October 12, 2009 @ 3:36 am

What am I going to do until Starcraft 2 comes out! PLEASE BRING IT OUT SOON!!!!!

  86. NumoF — October 12, 2009 @ 6:40 am

Don’t you guys have to work/study for exams or something?!

About LAN, its just the matter of letting the option of playing with your buddies at home open(As Normal). Not so much the question wether your friends should get extra SC2 copies or not. Come on, did you really expect Blizzard to keep the policy of letting a guy spawn several copies with one cd?
Don’t get greedy! Buy the game. Tell your friends to buy it too then you get to play. At least that’s honest business.
Battlenet 2 ain’t gonna have monthly fees. Isn’t that good enough already in current days? Expect a great game, don’t expect the world to change that much though.

  87. eric — October 12, 2009 @ 12:29 pm

Starcraft 2 is probably done. Blizzard just knows Wow subscriptions will drop a good 10 million dollars a month when they release sc2. This is where we see the effect of them being bought out, just hope the game is worth the wait.

  88. quint — October 13, 2009 @ 4:08 am

Yea i agree with eric. Cause my wow susciption has already been dropped….

  89. Heitor — October 15, 2009 @ 9:46 pm

    EA sux hard!!!!

  90. Ken — October 16, 2009 @ 4:32 am

Blizzard sucks at game releases they keep working on WoW and not SC2 as much same with Diablo 3 not as many people working on those game as updates for wow im thinking that the new exspansion for wow is coming out before SC2

  91. Dumass Ninja — October 18, 2009 @ 1:27 pm

question, y is it that we can watch battle reports where the game works perfectly and yet they claim its not finished. sure the battle.net as u say has somthing wrong with it, but cant u fix that while we have the game to play by our selfs? thats all i ask. i dont hate blizzard, but they should stop working on the other games while they work on this one, i agree

  92. tony — October 20, 2009 @ 7:58 am

Ill just wait ten years to buy the game. That way I can buy it for cheap:) I was a big fan of starcraft but I have realized that waiting is a waste of time. Im just gonna buy a PS3 because PC games take to long and are rare:(

You’re all looking about as genuine as politicians right now.
Quit the Delaying and just release it.

  96. tyler — October 25, 2009 @ 9:04 am

come on we all know the game is ready we can wait to play it online i mean seriously id rather get the game beat it and practice alone for a while than wait any more for the battlenet to be finished

  97. BMG Big Brute — October 27, 2009 @ 8:08 am

i had already paid off this game and now that its been delayed myfriends and family aretelling me to get my money back. i even paid for the guide which was supposed to be givien to me today but they pushed that back to june 1st like the game. i used the money from that to buy halo 3 ost and preorder modern warfare 2

  98. HyDrO-NP- — October 27, 2009 @ 6:29 pm

SC2 will probably just end up like SC:Ghost. They keep hyping it up and delaying, then just say it’s not gonna come out. I have played SC/BW for quite some time now (at least 8 years) and it seems Blizzard has, for the most part, just left the SC community. Many posts have made complaints about certain aspects of the game, and Blizzard just keeps on going. By the time SC2 is released nobody is going to care and it will just seem like a failure.

  99. alex — October 27, 2009 @ 8:25 pm

And if there’s a way that the game will be free to download it wil be good because I am trying to earn money and my family is not so rich and so dream on the game will be worked finish soon.

  109. avidgamer — November 6, 2009 @ 4:32 am

For all the naysayers, you know you’ll love the game when it comes out..so in the meantime go play Halo or some other good game and stop letting your hormonal imbalances make you blog rubbish.

Starcraft has always been one of the legendary games that still live. Not many other game companies (if any) can match what Blizzard has done. Wait a little longer and get your proper starcraft fix people, good things come to those who wait (even if you wait a loonnnnnng time).

Afterthought: when the game comes out, take out your frustrations on the enemy races you combat :)

fuck you blizzard, you over glorified your game. there is no fucking way it takes that long to come out with this game i’ve seen epic games before without the ridiculous wait. and with so many games out there to choose from i’ve simply grown tired of waiting for you to end your bullshit “hell it’s about time” my ass. fuck blizzard, fuck sc2, FUCK YOU take as much time as you need cuz i’m done with blizzard
and for all you panzies who defend blizzard like they are the only game company i think you need to pull your heads out of your asses.

  112. jesus — November 6, 2009 @ 4:01 pm

Def can’t wait until this game comes out. Ha, I love reading the comments on people talking smack about blizzard. Look at how many people still play Warcraft 3, Starcraft, and Diablo and think about the expectations they have to live up to. They have been able to release the most playable games ever made and taking their time to perfect the sequel of one of gamings most coveted titles is a very respectful thing to do. They could have just released it and made their millions and hoped people liked it, but they have been making it the best they can and I am very keen on this. I know after I finished off a few years of Starcraft, probably back in ‘99, I couldn’t wait for Starcraft 2 so it has been a long wait. Also it would be really sweet if there was a Warcraft 4. I know it probably won’t happen since they have changed the genre of the game and stuff, but RTS games are the ****.

For a closing, the first and second AoE games were probably the only other comparable games in their playability and ingenuity.

  113. Opti — November 8, 2009 @ 12:58 am

At least we will get it. I think all the time we waited will be well worth it.

  114. GuruMaster — November 8, 2009 @ 5:08 am

No! no more wait! I said i would kill myself but i forgot rope so here i am again to say no more wait! they take so long that they will be constantly update the graphic/sound/engine to with newer tecnologics and never release it! and it’s not like starcraft is that epic of a game anyway. there are other like… wait… NO! STARCRAFT IS BEST! BEST OF WORLD! MY PIX GOES MAX WITH STARCRAFT! GO FASTER BLIZZARD! YOU SO SLOW BECAUSE YOU ARE ICE (BLIZZARD) BECOME VOLCANO LIKE MY PIX! THE BOMB!

What is this talking of no LAN feature?!!? I SAY NAY!!
I don’t think Blizzard is thinking this through if they are thinking of taking out LAN feature…
THIS MEANS NO LAN PARTIES!!!! I THINK THAT IS WHAT ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ALONG WITH BATTLENET THE UBER UBER LAN PARTIES!!! they would ruin a great game if this is what is going to happen so I SAY NAY!!!!

  117. human — November 11, 2009 @ 12:40 am

There are to many complaints. These people are making a game that will be immaculate and amazing. Every single rts gamer that is complaining can just cry to their mommies, get over yourselves. Take your time blizzard, but the longer we wait the more I expect from this game. And what the hell to lan games that is just stupid.

blizzard should not tell us about games till 1 month before bata

  121. Desperaux — November 12, 2009 @ 11:54 pm

The thing about the No LAN is becayse the “LAN” Feature is a very old and primative feature… I believe it will simply be upgraded and Integrated into Battle.net 2.0, and will be named something different all together. As far as the redundant first-half-2010 release date…thats blizzard for ya

    -Desperaux

  124. haught — November 13, 2009 @ 4:28 pm

i think the real reason they are pushing it back is cuz they are putting more effort into WoW…. cuz thats the money maker to them… sadly they dont realize that SC2 along with Diablo3 will rake in alot of money… they just have thier priorities all out of order!!

  125. Snide — November 16, 2009 @ 9:34 am

It’s clear the reason for the delay is that they’re waiting for the release of a new video chip from Nvidia in 2011. Of course, the boards that support that chip require a new bus, and Intel won’t support that bus until 2012. Apple and MicroSoft won’t support it in their OS until 2013. So I think we’ll have to wait until 2014 until everything comes together, and then for about $20M you’ll have a killer game on your desk. ($20M you say – don’t worry – after the hyperinflation of 2012 that’s about $50 today).

  126. Denny — November 17, 2009 @ 8:13 am

How can you say they’re delaying the game when they haven’t said a release date…?

Cataclysm is the second expansion for WOW that they have started and will finish before Starcraft 2 comes out. Oh and now that WOW requires a Battle Net account to log in, we will probably have to pay monthly just to play Starcraft 2.

  137. bob — December 2, 2009 @ 10:02 am

avidgamer- you do know there are many great games that not only match how great “starcraft” was but also become better than it and come out in a timely manner. They also manage to make it with much greater graphics.

  138. bob — December 2, 2009 @ 10:14 am

whitley85- blizzard doesn’t run the SC1 servers or the Diablo servers they made it so you can run it on oyur own computer. also blizzard could care less about SC2 or Diablo 3 because there too indepth with WoW and probly will be untill they enough people stop playing were they cut the monthly cost like guild wars did.

And to someoen else i think commented earlyer that said name 1 game that another company made 10 years ago, they don’t need to they come out with sequals befor blizzard. and if oyur still stuck on them not being worth “10 years” then focus on games like “Halo: Combat Envoled” there’s still people that play that and “empire earth” both have others but people still play the first.

    halo-bungie – sequals h2 h3 HW H ODST
    empire earth- siera – sequals ee2 ee3
star craft- blizzard = sequals “still working on it 4th year now”

    Thank you come again! ..l..

You got way to many WoW games coming to fast its not like we are all loaded with money to afford the 45dollar games apiece then the 15 dollar account plus 10 dollars everytime you take that account to the next game then another 15 dollars every month jeesus christ blizzard go back to your roots… a fun RTS gaming company make great games but dont take a fuckin decade and really your losing fans blizzard not gaining any by delaying all the games comon wtf stop putting our hopes up cuz danm the world might end by time you get starcraft 2 done!

Wow lots of people are fucking idiots. Do you think the game is done and that theyre teasing you? In case you havent noticed the few games that Blizzard has released have recieved ridiculous ratings and awards. The original Starcraft being one of the most played games world wide, What did you expect? This is why a lot of companies put out horrible products (Windows Vista?) because they release it ASAP coming out being unstable. And releasing a bunch of updates later. If you really cared about playing it so much maybe you should have signed up for beta. morons

You guys have to realize that blizzard is also working on world of warcraft patches, world of starcraft (?), warcraft 3 patches, battle net issues, and still many more games. Starcraft II WILL come out, 5 years ago there was talk of warcraft 4, no dice. I dont think thatll happen, but if it does, I can understand because Blizzard has to work on more successful games and dont have enough time to do starcraft II.

If this game is out before Q2 2010 you can stick it where the sun don’t shine, I won’t support a company that treats it’s customers this way.

well….I have come back to star craft over and over….and over. For my entire gaming life actually. My second computer game (quake was first). The game STILL rocks. So you know what, if blizzard wants to perfect sratcraft 2…ya I have a kid now, ya I would like(ahem DYING!) to play it soon… then blizzard should delay the date. You want a glitched game? No? Then have patience my young padawans!

well guys. there is Dawn of War 2. It is very similar to SC just the 40k universe has a lot more races(9 i think). and if you like the Zerg, DOW has the Tyranids. they are very identical. just the Tyranids have been around longer then the zerg have(Warhammer 40000 is quite old).

Man WTH is going on with these guys of blizzard? I’m waiting for starcraft 2 for years and years and they just don’t make the fucking release date!
I think they will make the release date on december 21 of 2012

  159. Eagle-NP-@BNET.EAST — December 20, 2009 @ 12:45 am

What i would like to understand is why they are putting all this hype into Starcraft II that they are completley ingoring the obvious. Starcraft BroodWar is bugged beyond belief. They are doing NOTHING to discourage hacking like banning CD Keys etc.. Im just curious what makes you think once this game stops getting sales that the same thing won’t happen to this game.Me and everyone has heard from blizzard “we are doing are best to stop hacking”. I could only disagree more. If nothing is there best they are spot on. Seeing as they have not installed one update in almost 2-3 YEARS. SC2 Will fail because they are going to over do it. Then everyone will go crawling back to SC1.

ALSO $100 says SC2 Wont be out by christmas of 2010

  163. L M F A O — December 22, 2009 @ 4:18 pm

Although blizzard makes great games, they make 0 effort to meet their own deadlines. Pathetic. Sigh, I agree with many of the posts here -_- I’m getting too old to play video games

  164. Afan — December 22, 2009 @ 8:43 pm

The previews for Starcraft 2 look great but the delays are really frustrating. It’s like dangling this great game in front of us but not letting us have a go. Rumor is that the delays are due to more effort being put in to wow expansions addons / updates etc so games like starcraft suffer. That’s a shame as starcraft 1 was a great game and I am hoping 2 will be just as good. At least they seem to be delaying the release rather than releasing something sub standard that we would be disappointed over. The lack of release date is a bit silly though. Its not really the best way to run a development project ‘It will be ready when its ready’, sounds like a bad plan to me. They should figure out what a realistic release date will be and just put it out there, even if it is 2011. I think the community would appreciate that more.

  165. coolmart13 — December 23, 2009 @ 3:14 am

the only thing i find is that blizzard isnt a bad company for delays. The only reason they make delays is because they want their game to be the best when it comes out with no glitches of any kind. unlike EA, they release most of their games as fast as possible and usually have to do many updates because there are so many problems. Blizzard wanna make this game the best ever and by delaying the game they can. Im on the same position where im pissed off cause they keep delaying. but if that means the game wont have any problems in the long run. Im fine with that and happy to wait. MW2 has SOOOOOO many glitches right now and its annoying the crap outta me because people use the glitches to their advantage. Its the thing that annoys me about games

  166. Greg — December 23, 2009 @ 8:29 pm

There won’t be LAN so assholes like you can’t pirate the game and play with your faggy friends for free, like the whole damn Garena community does.

  167. Gremlin119 — December 24, 2009 @ 10:25 am

@ cyberdemon: i 150% agree with you in every aspect, if they do not implement LAN into the game then it will not be worth buying. Half the reason i still play WC3 is because me and my friends can LAN it and have a great time doing so. So blizzard. please don’t Fu*k this up by not adding LAN. That will be your biggest mistake.

  168. icemorebuts — December 26, 2009 @ 2:04 pm

I think Blizzard is under tremendous pressure to create a sequel to one of the best games ever, they want to create a game that will be equally as great as the first star-craft. I do agree that maybe they shouldn’t be so ambitious with their release date estimates, and then delay the game, but that might just be part of marketing.

  169. Me — December 28, 2009 @ 3:19 am

Hey any one remember load of the clans… or uh starcraft ghost. Starcraft 2 is going to be added to that list of games soon. even if it comes out be for the world ends in 2012 the graphics are going to shit compared to every thing else thats out.
oh wait even better, now there is going to be no lan support?! To bad there are millions of people like my self that do not have access to high speed internet where they live, so unless i can play on my 28.8kbps dial up I am stuck with only playing single player games?! what the hell is the point then! I cant even have a few friends over for a lan party?! let me guess the next announcement is going to be that they want every one to pay a monthly fee to use the new battle net…

  170. pnuts69 — December 29, 2009 @ 12:29 am

hey look at it this way: they’re just making sure they make the best game possible. i could wait another year for the game as long as it lives up to blizzards standards of badass games. its worth the wait people so just have some patience and be glad they didnt half-ass this and put out a mediocre sequel :S

  171. devilfish — December 30, 2009 @ 2:39 am

look, the graphics are being improved constantly ,search in Google images starctaft 2 and you will see that from the first announce in 07 to now the hidralisk in very different with much more detail, the point of all of this is that the game is going to have a shit load of graphics becouse they are up to speed with the year they are releasing it

  172. TempesT — December 30, 2009 @ 6:06 pm

for me all that matters is that blizzard is going down the drain if they keep doing this……… however if the game is promising as they all say then its gonna be worth my while…

  175. battlenet sucks — January 3, 2010 @ 4:56 am

Okay so they are saying that Battle.net is what is causing them to delay the game ? Who cares about Battle.net ? I would rather play the damn game now and maybe get battle.net later, it isn’t like I am going to try and get this game just to play against other people and not play the actual missions.

I can’t wait to pay $50 per expansion, I wonder if the expansions will take as long to come out ?

  176. 1990s Sc player — January 3, 2010 @ 3:08 pm

  184. Tommy — January 9, 2010 @ 5:06 am

A few reasons to BOYCOTT Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty!

    I. The development of StarCraft II was announced on May 19, 2007, at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Seoul, South Korea. Blizzard set a release date for the first public beta to summer 2009, but failed to make the release date. StarCraft II is being developed, under the codename Medusa, for concurrent release on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Blizzard has not yet announced a release date. Development on the game, initially delayed for a year by the temporary reassignment of Blizzard’s resources to World of Warcraft, began in 2003, shortly after Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne was released. According to Rob Pardo and Chris Sigaty, development for StarCraft II was put on hold for a year in 2005 due to the assistance needed for World of Warcraft.

II. Rob Pardo indicated in a June interview that LAN support would not be included in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Removing LAN has the effect of forcing players to connect through Blizzard’s servers, Battle.net, before playing multiplayer locally.

III. At the June 2008 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational, Blizzard Executive Vice President Rob Pardo was quoted as saying that development of the campaign was one-third complete. He also said that Starcraft II is to be released as a trilogy of games, starting with Wings of Liberty, focused on the Terrans, followed by Heart of the Swarm, revolving around the Zerg, and finally Legacy of the Void, devoted to the Protoss. – Consider the fact that we still waiting over 6 years for the SC2: Wings of Liberty, this means that the other two will be released in 2022…

IV. The blizzard make fun of us!

THE CONCLUSION: Just fuck them be a MAN!

  185. Webhoncho — January 9, 2010 @ 6:08 am

Ha – Blizzard started working on this back when users were still wondering whether they should upgrade from Windows 98 and 2000. Gee, seems like Blizzard has one programmer in a cave who gets sooo close to release and darn that MS comes out with a new OS. The last word out of the cave was “OMG – what do you mean we have to run on Windows 7? Get back into the cave!” :-)

Rumor has it Blizzard may become more realistic and rename its new game in honor of A.C. Clarke and to mark the actual release date. My great-grandchildren look forward to “Star Craft 2061″. All the experts say game play will be unbelievable!

My dad introduced me to Starcraft when i was 10, and since then i have loved playing it. I will be 22 next month so its a little depressing that it has taken them soooo long to even get this close to a release date. I was going to put in a preorder for it but when i started researching it and realized there is no real release date i decided against it. I am frustrated at the amount of time they have made us wait and i won’t lie even though i’m pissed i will still buy the game… BUT it better be freaking AMAZING or else i will never waste my time or money on blizzard again. I honestly believe they are waiting for a certain number of preorders before they pick a release date, but not very many people want to order a game that has no release date. lol i think they just like it when people are mad.

I’m barely excited about it anymore. I’ll bet i’m not the only one too,and once you’ve been waiting for years you stop giving a crap, and i certainly won’t be there to grab the game on the release date or in any hurry when i DOES come out. All i know is that they should focus more of there effort on this and maybe a little less on WOW(theres new content on wow all the time) maybe then if wouldn’t take ‘em a decade to come out with a sequel. At the very least this game had better be damn near perfect with all the time they’ve had or there gonna lose a hell of a lot of fan boys thats for sure.

All of you saying all this shit and opinions guys, but… the truth is that yes blizzard is a company… every business’s aim is to earn as much money as they can get right?! therefore blizzard delaying SC2 because first of all they get 1000000 times more profit from WoW, cause people play it and pay monthly… and in order to release sc2 they need to spend money and reasorses which will cost them money and time… thus… they delay SC2 cause this FAGS blizzz is just another profit aiming company out there that just want to get their business going no matter what… they don’t care about fans… that people wait for fucking 10 years for the game to come out… as someone else told in this form that they been waiting for soooo long that now they dont give a single bullshit anymore and now they have wife and kids already and now they have different aspects of life no games… u grow up… for those people its frastration… bliiz FAGS dont fuckign annouce date when ur not ready for it… fucking FASGS seriously… making all people hope for another brillian strategy out there and delaying it for a fucking DECADE! fuck YOU blizzard! seriously@

If you attended Blizzcon in 2009, which means if you were one of those lucky people living in CALI, then you more than likely have the beta and are therefor one lucky biyatch. If you are looking for a torrent then you are looking for a virus. The beta is more than 2Gbs so good luck finding one. The wait is very tiresome and killing me 2. The only game that EA actually made that lasted 10 years is The Sims.

    unrealizable company
i can really just forget this game, i am not a young guy already, first time i play this game it was 15, the reason i have a strong expectation on this game is because this is a great thing to let me remember my childhood, but when it keeping push the release date, then the entire thing turn to such a rubbish.
please blizzard, with this in mind, ‘we are customer’.

I just read something that the game will be released in Q3 (October 2010)…but it wasn’t confirmed by blizzard. That’s almost 9 years in the making of this game. Just release the damn game and when technology changes and gets more advanced, make another freakin’ game, HOLY SHIT!! I solved the problem!
