BORDERLANDS PC FIXES

Problem #1 : Borderlands install error message “Installation ended prematurely because of an error.”
Solution : It seems that a lot of Windows 7 users are getting this error message. This error message is not related to Borderlands. First, try to remove all files in your temp directory to make sure that the Borderlands installation files are not retrieved from a corrupted cache. If you still get that error then it could be a Drive or MSI Installer related problem so try to reinstall your MSI drivers and if that doesny work you might wanna try a fix similar to the one specified here -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/230895 . And if you still get that error, post about it in the comment box below.

Problem #2 : Borderlands install error on Windows 7

as posted by Anthonyianoco

1) Make sure you update you DirectX, you can follow this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d…a-9b6652cd92a3
WARNING: Even though this isn’t the main point of this thread, you will have to install a second time if you skip this step, and it will only waste you time not to do this step.2) When attempting to install, you will see this error: “Installation ended prematurely because of an error.”
In order to install correctly, open up command prompt and run the following command.

Code:
msiexec /i d:\setup.msi /qb

WARNING: Make sure to replace d:\ with the correct drive letter that the DVD is inserted into. Also, the above command will disable GUI installation, all you will see is a progress bar. After the files are copied to your hard drive, they will be located in Program Files/2K Games. The setup will then go on to activate your copy of Borderlands. After everything disappears and your computer returns to your desktop, you should be able to successfully start the game.

Troubleshooting: During installation I get an error about “d3dx9_##.dll”
Go back to #1 and update your DirectX.

Problem #3 [IMPORTANT! ] Borderlands(PC) Nvidia Problem (crash, freeze or it may not run at all)
Note : Do not update to yur Nvidia drivers 191.xx yet. As of this posting, the 191.xx drivers released are unstable and rendered some systems unusable (link). If you need to update your video card to a later version, make sure that it’s earlier than the 191.xx. (Just in case i forget to remove this note after Nvidia fixes this issue, check this post’s creation date >> date posted october 26, 2009)

Problem #4 : Borderlands Cannot connect to multiplayer/online games.
Solution A: try to turn off your firewall/anti-virus
Solution B:  you might need to open your ports. to know what ports to open for Borderlands (PC) check this link  -> http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=77897 | borderlands portforwarding.

Problem #5 : Borderlands ATI 4xxx series problem : You play normally for around 20 minutes or so, before the game suddenly freeze, screen goes black, and a message box from the CCC pops ups telling you that VPU Recover has reset your driver due to it having stopped responding. <as posted by Airship>
Solution :
Hello, same problem here with a 4870 running on windows 7 64 bit with latest release of catalyst drivers, 9.10. This is a known issue with a lot of games on their first release. Anyway my advice for you is to update your graphic drivers, maybe you can solve the problem this way. If it doesn’t i suppose we have to wait a solution from game developers or ATI’s new driver release.<as posted by renneirob>

Problem #6 : Borderlands (PC) problem where USB gamepads / controllers are not recognized or the mapping of buttons is different/wrong/awkward.
Solution : No known solutions yet

Problem #7 : Borderlands (PC) Stuttering sound problem
Solution : Reduce or turn off Directsound acceleration

Problem #8 : Borderlands (PC) Crashing to desktop / Black Screen Problem
Solution #1 : Make sure you are using the latest stable version of your Video card drivers.
Solution #2 : If you Borderlands still keeps on crashing, post your system specs and the OS you are using to run Borderlands on the comment box below plus a description of how the error occurs (does it occur in a specific area or when you do something in-game, etc)

Problem #9: Borderlands (PC) intermittent freezing problem
Solution : refer to solution #1 and solution #2 for borderlands problem #8

Problem #10 : Borderlands (PC) Data Execution Prevention error (DEP error)
Solution as posted by polka : Try to follow the steps here to disable DEP http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_turn_off_data_execution_prevention_errors.html
Solution #2 : if it wont allow you to disable the DEP in vista, try this one : http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1261/vista_disable_dep_noexecute_protection_fix_explorer_crashing/
Solution #3 : If you STILL cant seem to disable DEP via control panel, turn it off from the boot.ini permanently, steps outlined here : http://kb.vodor.net/idx.php/6/004/article/

Problem #11 : Borderlands (PC) General Protection Fault for multicore users
Solution : Start the game, go quick to your taskmanager select go Processes, search Borderlands.exe, Right mouse button, click “Set Affinity” disable all cpu´s except of one (run this game with one Processor).
You must do this before the game start

Problem #12 : Cant install borderlands, error message is :
setupdll\setupdll.cpp (391)
pAPP:Borderlands
etc..etc..

Solution : as posted by xcon

Try the following.

If “C” is your system drive, go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\

There you should see directory called “InstallShield”. Rename that directory to something else, for example “temp_is”. Try running Setup now.

Problem #13 : Borderlands (PC) Install on PC problem error 1722
Solution #1 :
After the installation is “complete” and the message shows that says “error 1722? and so on, turn of your computer by unplugging it or hold the button down and DO NOT press OK!

Solution #2:

1.
Elevate a command prompt by right-clicking the Command Prompt in Start:All Programs:Accessories and selecting Run as administrator…
2.
From the command prompt, run regedit.exe
3.
If you have a 32-bit system, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion.
If you have a 64-bit system, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
4.
Set the “DevicePath” value to “%SystemRoot%\Inf” (without the quotes).

Problem #14 : Borderlands AMD related crashes AFTER successful install.
Solution : If you have a 64-bit dual core and can play, but the game crashes out after 15-60 min and asks you to install AMD software, you should try the ‘dual-core optimizer’ from AMDs website: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342f&ItemID=153

If you are experiencing Borderlands PC errors that are not included in the list above, PLEASE post about it in the comment box below this page (no need to register). Include details about your system specs, error message that Borderlands gives you or at least a description of the problem.

the game starts fine for me but when i get to the first bit where you choose you colour and outfit about 1 min afterwards my computer screen goes blank the fan on my gpu spins up and then the sound loops and my computer shuts down.im on windows vista and using a 4870. i have tried everything i can think of(new drivers new physx drivers new sound drivers) and none of them have helped. strange as i had this same problem with risen as well but all other games work fine so im thinking it may be an issue with ut3 games and physx as both these games use thatt engine and physx

FYI if you have issues with ATI 4xxx cards crashing with black screens, try opening CCC (Catalyst Control Centre) and manually setting the fan to 50% or higher (I used 85% to be on the safe side). It seems the auto fan control gets disabled for some reason causing the cards to overheat.

  7. ScarySquirrel — October 27, 2009 @ 2:25 am

I purchased Borderlands recently and spent countless hours playing as a Siren. When I caught up to a friend in level and joined his match, I lost ALL skill points.
Also, aim assist will not toggle off.
I realize that both of these issues are marked but I would like to know when I will be able to play my main character again bug-free.

  8. GamerNerd — October 27, 2009 @ 3:28 am

  12. svmKNIGHT — October 27, 2009 @ 4:37 am

The single player game works and load just fine, but when multiplayer then join game button are selected the program freezes while finding servers(or atleast it’s at a framerate of 1 per minute). every once in a while the mouse will shift if I moved it and I can get full control if I guess a few keystrokes and join a server and it fails to connect, otherwise it’s a random server after a few minutes of trying to get a response.

  15. Talynn — October 27, 2009 @ 5:22 am

There are some people complaining on the Steam version that on the “First Time Setup” That they are getting stuck on Part 2 and Part 3 of the install. Part 2 is amdcpusetup.exe, and part 3, from what I hear, is a directX setup.

I have been stuck on the second part for some time, and I have decided to delete the local content and redownload the game. But I want to know if anyone has found a fix of a workaround to this issue. Does anyone know?

I have this issue - when i try to install the game the instqallshield goes through the first part where in installs 44.6mb on my HDD but before it goes on to the lengthy installation process it just… stops. its doing nothing.

in my add\remove program i can see borderlands (44.6mb size) but i cant uninstall it. if i try i get an error like in #12. of course trying to fix it like solution #12 suggested got me nowhere. i still have installation issue.

deleting my TEMP folder didnt help either :\

    nothing works as of now….

  21. Cpark — October 27, 2009 @ 7:05 am

Ok. I posted earlier with the BSOD problem. After a lot of messing around, I have seemed to figure out how to fix it. I highly recommend never using method 2 or 3 for Problem 10 because for some people, it really messes up the computer to the point where you cant even start it. If anyone was having the same problems as me, just leave a message and I’ll explain how to fix it.

  22. Chris — October 27, 2009 @ 7:19 am

Purchased Borderlands, Pre-Installed it 2 days prior to release date. Tried to play today and I come up with a
    “Rendering Thread Exception:
    General Protection Fault!”
Type error.. I don’t really know what to do.

  23. Akira — October 27, 2009 @ 7:23 am

I am using a Logitech Rumblepad 2 and the moveforward and movebackward are switched. All other axises are working just find it’s only the left sticks Y axis that is switched.

I tried the fix that worked for Wolverine, same problem and same unreal engine, but it didn’t work.

    Any ideas?

  26. YourDad — October 27, 2009 @ 9:04 am

Anyone know if there’s ANOTHER way to help?

  27. joeb — October 27, 2009 @ 9:06 am

i am having trouble installing it, Error 1722 - Problem #13, i tried the fix from above but it didnt help. my “DevicePath” value was already set to “%SystemRoot%\Inf” same as nabb the error occurs a few seconds after installation has started

  28. MrBlue — October 27, 2009 @ 9:28 am

Getting a General protection fault! error. any idea why I cant launch the game?

  29. Josh — October 27, 2009 @ 9:51 am

I’m getting a really weird problem. I can start and play the game just fine, up until whenever the woman who transmits messages to you somehow. She talks for like 10 seconds, and then all of a sudden my graphics just go crazy, and many random skins and different things from the game flood my screen. Sometimes this happens, or other times my computer will completely freeze up. I’ve been experiencing the graphics problem with Counter-Strike: Source as well.

  30. Baw — October 27, 2009 @ 11:25 am

I got thie off of RSlog and it worked for me it was installing fully then it would launch then crash and i would get the 1722 error but this fixed it for me

or those who still have the “error 1722? message at the end of the installation, here is the trick :

When you have this message, DON’T PRESS “ok”.

Copy the whole folder where you intalled the game (”Borderland” folder) and put it in another place on your hard drive. Then press ok. The installation will reverse, due to the error.

Put the copy of the folder “borderland” you made in your game directory.

    Then it will work.

  31. Someone22 — October 27, 2009 @ 11:31 am

I was playing with a friend on splitscreen (him as Mordi and I as Lilith), we were in Earl’s Scrapyard, and the system locked… frozen screen, no audio, couldn’t pull up the guide menu or anything. Had to shut the 360. Booted back up, and his (host) save file was corrupted. Nothing was saving or even happening at the time, we were just looting.

So we leveled up another Mordi, and it did the same thing, in the heat of battle at Earl’s scrapyard. This time it didn’t corrupt the save.

This wouldn’t be such a problem if M$ let us back up our saves, the bastards.

The splash screen loads, screen goes black and resolution changes but then it just stops booting. I’ve got dual monitors so I kept task manager open in one of them, the process just disappears, no error message or anything. ATI x1600 2gb ram AMD3800+ 2.0ghz

  57. Jordan — October 27, 2009 @ 9:24 pm

@jiffy760 - I have very nearly the same PC build, except I have more RAM and a different mobo. My game crashes about every 30 minutes. Very annoying. I’ve tried updating drivers, but ATI’s driver installer crashes for me. I’m running out of solutions. :-)

    Nvidia 8600M GT

after i click the game to run it.. the process starts on the task manager but after like 5 seconds it quits and it does nothing… any ideas?

  59. foxtrotfire — October 27, 2009 @ 10:01 pm

I had a problem while booting the game, it showed the splashscreen and then it encountered a problem and needed to close giving the error message that the device does not support pixel shader 3.0 (my graph card supports up to 4.0) The solution was to update my graph card driver ( maybe a solution to the problems of other people) But now i get a general protection fault error after playing for a while and running the game on only core 1 or core 2 doesn’t help.

4870×2 Issue: Video Card runs even hotter than normal and can’t handle high settings. I’m using the latest 9.10 catalyst suite and tried reinstalling the drivers already. The manual fan control is set to 75% which is what I use standard for TF2, Cysis, and Bioshock (and don’t have this problem). When I start the game the temp idles around 55 degrees. After 5 minutes in game the card hits 105-110. I suspect there is a general problem with ATI drivers as other 4xxx series users also have the black screen crash problem.

I found a sollution for the “error 1722″ in W7 after i tried all things that i found on this site.
After the installation is “complete” and the message shows that says “error 1722″ and so on, turn of your computer by unplugging it or hold the button down and DO NOT press OK!

I did like this and the game stays installed and works like a charm =)

RE: AMD related crashes AFTER successful install.

If you have a 64-bit dual core and can play, but the game crashes out after 15-60 min and asks you to install AMD software, you should try the ‘dual-core optimizer’ from AMDs website: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342f&ItemID=153

Its worked for me so far…

Problem #8 : Borderlands (PC) Crashing to desktop / Black Screen Problem

Running on a 3.2ghz single core 2gigs of ram and an ATI 2600pro. Crash occurs when pressing ‘tab’ to open the character screen/inventory. CCC shows an error message saying the VPU has reset.

    currently making the game unplayable

    I have:

    E6600 Core 2 Duo(2.4ghz)

    8800 GTS 320 MB

    Vista Ultimate 32bit

    4GB Ram

The game is really really laggy. It freezes every 10-15 seconds, usually unfreezes soon after, but I can’t get past a certain point. Skag gully (near the very beginning), right after I enter the area where the first two midgets come out. The game freezes and I have to force crash it.

When I look at the task manager the process Borderlands.exe is using over 1,000,000 K. I am sure that is why it is so laggy but just to see I dropped every single setting to bare minimum and it still is skips. Are there any ideas, my computer isn’t terrible I still play most new games at fairly high to fully high settings with no problems, but this game takes its toll at low settings and still crashes. Could it be an install problem?

When I start installing the game it simply stops at 46,6 MB can’t really get around it, tried many tips nothing works I even double checked everything. If anyone has a solution to why the installation stops suddenly it would be great!

    Thanks

  77. Dave — October 28, 2009 @ 9:50 am

So I originally encountered the installing error darklink, topeira, xanctus, and myself encountered while using xp 32bit. I upgraded to windows 7 64bit and still encounter the EXACT SAME PROBLEM! I only got to the second phase of the install once (using xp), where it reached around 45% and then hardlocked. Ever since then I can never get past the first unpacking phase (In xp or 7). It still shows the installshield icon in the taskbar although I can’t maximize it and it never progresses past that point. This is ridiculous!!! I would be forever grateful if this got figured out.

Well, this one is kind of strange, every time that girl hollograph comes up and start talking to me (I belive its the guide angel or something), when she finishes talking and the holograph disapears, the game freezes up for like 10 seconds, and then lot of graphical glitches occur, the first time it was just a big horizontal line going from the top to the bottom, the next time it was a lot of strange colors, figures and rare things. If i restart the game the glitches stay there, i have to restart my pc to fix the thing

To whoever is the writer of this article,

First of all, thanks for posting all these fixes!

But for problem number 10, you should warn people that the use of method 2 or 3 can cause severe problems, because a lot of people like myself have gotten BSOD from disabling DEP completely. You should add in another method that I found that works. Just apply the Razor1911 crack over the reloaded game client, and it will work perfectly.

in accordance to #20 comment or TOPEIRA’s problem of installation stopping after the binaries, i found a solution!!!
took me years of trawling through comments. Like topeira, my installation stopped; (this was because i cancelled it on a whim). As i tried to reinstall, it stopped after installing the binaries and the directory.

SOLUTION: This is a step by step guide to fix this problem
1.I deleted all borderlands registries with regedit
2.I deleted the 2kgames directory folder
3.After the installation minimises after the binaries section, Go to processes Ctrl+Alt+Del and find a process called 7zip. End process Tree it.
4.Doing these 3 steps made my install work, and yes it was a dumb fluke on step 3. But it works. :D happy borderlands

it keep try to download direct x. but i already have directx 9 on my comp. so what should i do about this?

  119. Avocado — October 29, 2009 @ 9:41 am

I’m having problems saving. I have the RELOADED release, and on both my XP and Vista (two different computers), I cannot save anything: settings, characters, etc. I have two partitioned drives on both computers, and I tried installing on both drives with the Vista computer and still nothing; no ability to save.

When I tried the Razor1911 release, I could get only to the first town, with the robot standing in front of the door, then the robot wouldn’t get on with the quest dialog so I was permanently stuck.

Thanks for taking the time to help!

#8, my problem is very similar to vectorbased in comment 67, except my crash occurs only when accessing the inventory menu, all the other menus work fine. Upon trying to open it, the game will freeze, and several moments later the screen turns black, and I have to hard reboot.

    Pentium 4 2.9 GHz
    1.5 GB ram
radeon 2600xt AGP using catalyst 9.10 drivers (the AGP drivers for this card are unofficial, so this would be my guess)

@Green comment 110. I had the same problem as you but it started working just fine when I downloaded C++2008 (believe me I think it’ll work), but remember to download the 2008 (newest) edition of C++! Just write download C++2008 in google and u’ll have it.

You won’t believe this. I tried installing it and like usual it minimized into the taskbar after the binaries installed. I tried the 7zip thing and when I right clicked on 7zip and selected “end process tree” a confirmation popped up asking if I wanted to go through with it. Before I confirmed “end process tree” the second part of the install all of the sudden showed up and the game finished the install! Needless to say I was pretty much ecstatic. I played the game for a several hours and got up to level 13 (game is amazing).

Couple hours ago after I accidently deleted a unrelated file and had no choice but to system restore. Unfortunately I had no restore points from after the Borderlands installation and had to choose a point before the install took place. Again I am stuck in this stupid install loop and I can’t replicate the 7zip process I used earlier. This is torture. At least I got a taste and know what I’m missing out on now. : (

  126. Phoenix — October 30, 2009 @ 1:32 am

My problem is that I get through the annoying logo screens that you can’t skip. When the NVIDIA one pops up and claptrap comes out and tries to fix it. Right after that screen the games stops loading and sits at a black screen. Never crashes to Desktop just sits there. I can hear the hard drive working but the game never appears.

    System Specs:

    Windows 7 Pro
    4gb RAM
    150GB Raptor
    Creative X-Fi Fatality
    NVIDIA 8800GTX

    Avast AntiVirus
    Creative Volume panel

Sometimes the game does load, usually after a reboot but most times not. Perhaps its something to do with my antivirus. I thought it was my volume panel as the game worked once when I disabled that but that didn’t work this time. Frustrating. Any thoughts?

For those who get the General Protection Fault error, using only one core/cpu (problem #11) indeed fixed my issue. But funny thing is it only works if the core assigned to the game is the first one.. not sure why.

Hi, i had the following issue on my PC version of borderlands “Issue: (360, PS3) Equipped items disappear upon leaving a co-op game or on level transition in co-op games”
    My PC build is as follows;

    Gigabyte 275 GTX
    8800 Quad core CPU
    8gb DDR2 RAM
    EVGA 780i SLI motherboard
    1tb HDD
    Windows Vista 64bit OS

My items dissappeared as soon as i joined my first multiplayer game, and was unavaliable even in my single player game after that.

I’d like to name the awesome weapons i had, but theres like a million different weapons so i guess i’ll just have to shrug my shoulders on that one.

I get the 1722 error on install, fixed this by not clicking ok when the error message pops up and then copying the installed files to a new location then copying them back after clicking ok which deletes all the install files.

I was playing the game all last night, woke today switched comp on tried to play the game and its all gone and I need to install again.

This is ridiculous. 2k Games are swanks for releasing this game without a fix!

Well it looks like nothing im going through… while installing the game it randomly begins to completly freeze windows 7 for at least 1 minute.. after that it moves for 2 seconds and goes again with the freeze…. i tried a lot of suggested solutions but it never worked…

  160. Josh — November 2, 2009 @ 1:36 am

The repro rate on the PS3 soft crash (freeze) needs to be bumped up from Low Frequency to 85-100% frequency. I haven’t been able to get the game NOT to crash. I could put the game in now and play it split-screen for maybe 10 minutes (if lucky) before it will freeze. It is very disappointing to have waited so long for a game that needs 2 more months of QA. It is 100% repro rate on split screen, and about a 75% on online multiplayer. It would be nice to see a fix implemented soon because I was really enjoying the game, but these issues will keep me from playing it any further or speaking of it fairly to others. It is another typical case of a studio and publisher undervaluing QA. If you would treat QA staff as well as developers you maybe would have had a game released on time without these issues. Quality assurance is the most important part of game development. They make sure your product works. You have essentially killed any chance of favorable consumer review by releasing a candidate that contains multiple A level showstoppers. Why should I or any other user have to deal with a near constant crash when I can just write this game off as bad and move on?

So I grabbed my roommates copy of XP and reinstalled what was previously Vista 64. I no longer have an issue with my video stuttering anymore but with XP now installed I’m seeing a new video issue. Just like post #141 above, I am perfectly fine up until the point where I exit the bus and the robot is handing me the HUD. At that point, the music will continue but the game seems to hang. I let it sit that way and it never crashes to desktop but I have to either reboot my machine or wait for the task manager to show up and close it that way.

My audio has started to bug for some reason and it seems to be caused by a SMG I just found. Never had the issue earlier. Anyway, I can hear a small sound that speakers make when their about to fall apart due to playing too loud. The sound comes for a millisecond, then the audio plays as normal. Then after a while, the audio breaks completely and everything sounds lika 1-bit sound and/or a modem. Anyone else having this issue?

I have an onboard, disabled audio device and a SB Audigy 2. If I close Borderlands the sound works normally again. Otherwise I have to disable and enable the device and everything goes back to normal.

I have a quadcore Amd Phenom II 940 Black Edition, 4gb of ram, onboard Audio (Realtek ALC), SB Audigy 2, Windows 7 x64, freshly installed. Latest drivers for chipset, audio, graphics and everything else.

  173. MRIS — November 3, 2009 @ 9:28 pm

One work-around for the “Installation ended prematurely because of an error.” problem is to do a silent install, like this: start –> Run –>

    msiexec /i d:\setup.msi /qb!

So I installed the game, but I had to uninstall it because I did something wrong with the files. When I uninstalled it, I didn’t restart the computer when it said to, and now I can’t seem to reinstall the game.

my game crashes when I’m saving my game for the first time. In this little tutorial at the start of the game. You got out of the bus, robot gives you a device and ypu must follow him. When that little robot stops at this “saving point” I press “e” and my game crashes.
Anyone know how to fix that?

I have had a problem with my game freezing on the xbox 360. We had just finished fighting krom. When we teleported back to new haven the games audio started to skip. But it really didn’t effect our game play, so we continued. When we went to turn in the quest the game froze up, alone with the xbox. Now even if we try to play are characters by themselfs the game still freezes up. Now it says our characters are corrupted. Please help!!!!

    Intel Quad Core 2.4GHz
    4GB Ram (2×2)

    Windows 7 - 64 bit

So I get the random, intermittent freezing problem. I never do anything specific, it is completely random. The game will lock up until I hit Alt+Ctrl+Del, then Cancel. Once I do this, the game runs fine for a few minutes.

    Any ideas?

I get a pirate version with a friend… and when the installation bar reaches the end a window appears saying I dont have administrator privileges… then the download bar rolls back…

I managed to resolve the problem by myself after hours of search in the internet (thats how I found this page) but nothing helps… so I’ll put it here to help anyone with the same problem. (is acctualy easy =D)

When the bar reaches the end and the window appears DONT click ok… go to the 2K folder and move all Borderlands folder to another place (I moved to the desktop) then go to the folder binaries and click “borderlands.exe” file… a mesage will appear saying some .dll file is missing… search the file in internet (sorry… dont remember right now the name or the site i’ve found it) download it, and copy the file to the folder “binaries”… and play… very simple right =D

    Hope this help someone…
    have fun! xD

  185. bulletproof — November 6, 2009 @ 3:10 am

Whiley u have to copy the crack in the binaries folder to play if it’s a pirate. Do this while the installation is on, before the screen pops up and rolls back the installation

Hi, I have a different problem from all of you actually… I run the game fine after getting past the initial physx problem which was solved by downloading the latest nvidia physx program from their website…

Now i run the game and it looks beautiful. all options at full and it still runs smoothly, however the problem starts when
    1) i get hit by a flock of rakks.
    2) i use the rocket launcher on enemies about 1-2 feet from me.

my comp instantly restarts and i get a CMOS clock reset.

hopefully someone can help me there.

I found on my quad core Phenom II 940, on the Asus M3a32 mother board when I had the ganged mode memory option set to enabled I would experience random crashes and blue screens with various causes, I set the Memory option to unganged and the problems have not reoccurred in some time now. If your system bios has the option to gang or ungang the memory on the AMD memory controllers try setting it to unganged.

game crashes after approximately 10-30 minutes of play.

    “detected negative delta time”

i’ve tried the following methods with no success:

-running the game in windows 98/me compatibility mode

-replacing borderlands.exe with a cracked version and also adding a .dll called “reloaded.dll” that came with the crack

-amd’s dual core optimizer (even though i have an intel e8400 - i’m desperate to get this working properly)

-downloading at least two different pirated/ripped copies

    Intel Pentium 4 3.6 Ghz
    2Gb Ram
ati radeon hd 2600 XT (512 mb)
Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card

Freezes with the PURE VIRTUAL FUNCTION CALL series of errors, i have gone through and checked that i have the newest drivers for everything including chip set, and so far nothing. No specific areas, just i play for a while and it freezes and that happens. Sometimes hours sometimes 30 seconds. Usually lasts longer if i go into msconfig and disable all unnecessary services and run reboot/run the game. It no difference between single and multi player, though eventually it will stop loading texture, like it will be so that the whole map is blue, and all you can see are buildings and vehicles and the players, and the guns that enemies are holding but not the enemies themselves. That problem gets progressively worse until it is either a. unplayable or b. it crashes.

    win vista 32bit
    4870×2

    updated drivers to 9.10

I get to play about 20-60 minutes before the game crashes, and a “runtime error” box comes up.
any news if there is going to be a patch anytime soon?

    I used to have the DEP problem, so I tried the solution here and managed to shut DEP down. Instead, it seems I get the same problem, only now it has nothing to do with DEP. In other words, the game doesn’t even start, I just instantly get the message;

    Borderlands has stopped working.

Before, Windows told me that DEP was blocking it. Now, DEP is off, Windows doesn’t say anything about DEP, but the end result is the same. The game doesn’t start, it just shuts down instantly.
I also tried installing the latest video drivers, but with no luck.

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (64)

    Processor: AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL -64, 2.1GhZ

    Directx 10

    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Okay I’ve finally found a solution to topeira’s problem and many others that were having problems with frozen installs. Nothing worked, even ~6 system restores..

I had a power outage during the install and trying to reinstall now just minimizes the Borderlands setup for hours while it does nothing.

Solution may vary for you but it worked for me on Windows 7 64bit.

While Borderlands setup is “minimized” on your taskbar,
ALT CTRL DELETE and go to your Task Manager, Processes tab.

Find 7zip.exe and rightclick it, Open File Location.

It will take you to an AppData\Local\Temp folder with a lot of numbers and letters.

Now doubleclick and open 7zip and let it extract some stuff.

Now in the same folder, open 7zFM.. Navigate to your DVD, and find Borderlands.dat.001, doubleclick it, highlight everything in the box and extract it to your Program Files \ Borderlands folder.

Once all 7GB or so are extracted and in the correct location, run the installation one more time and it will finish installing the other DLLs that you need.

Replace Borderlands.exe and you’re good to go.
