* Open a ‘Command Prompt’ (cmd.exe if you are using ‘Run…’ from the start menu)
* Run: “c:\Program Files\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe” /repair
* Note: Change “c:\Program Files” to wherever you have steam installed. For a 64 bit OS the default would be: “c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe” /repair
* Start Steam

To Fix (If that didn’t work)

* Exit Steam
* Delete the file:
32 bit Windows: “c:\Program Files\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.exe”
64 bit Windows: “c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.exe”
* Restart Steam

To Fix (at your own risk)

* Exit Steam
* Kill SteamService.exe from the task manager
* Copy the version from \Bin into \Common Files\Steam
* Restart Steam

To Fix (Safer, or if the above doesn’t work)

* Exit Steam
* Open the Control Panel
* Open ‘Programs and Features’
* Right Click on ‘Steam’ and select ‘Repair’
* This operation can take awhile.

Fix :
1)Navigate to your windows folder (usually c:/windows/)
2)Inside there, goto the CSC folder
3)Try to open the folder and it should fail (if it doesn’t, you have a different problem). It’ll come up with ‘You don’t currently have permission to access this folder’ at which time you keep pressing continue until it says you’ve been denied.
4)Right-click the folder, go to properties.
5)Go to the security tab at which point it’ll say ‘To continue, you must be an administrative user with permission to view this object’s security properties’ at which point you click continue.
6)Click on admin in the owner tab which will swap the owner to the administrator then click OK.
7)You then click on OK once again which will bring up the security tab.
8)Tick ‘full control’, press OK twice to get out of the properties tabs.
9)Run the game.

game freezes after 5-10 minutes of gameplay. sound freaks out and screen turns pink and the polygons become visible, all while being frozen. I have to restart the computer completely to be able to regain control. I’m running windows xp professional, 4 gig of ram, plenty of hard drive space, and a nVidia geforce gtx 260 graphics card with fully up to date drivers.

When I start game I see huge red “ERROR” words all over my environment. I can walk through them but the game is unplayable.

    10. Max — November 20, 2009 @ 4:31 am

In versus modes only (scavanger, versus) as I press to either quick join or choose a server, the game begins to load but does not go past a certain point on the loading bar. It then says “Connection failed after 10 retries.” I have tried over 20 times and all servers I try to join show this. Campaign, single player, survivor, and realism mode work fine.

    26. fignuts2021 — November 21, 2009 @ 5:23 pm

Occasionally (I say occasionally but it’s happened 3 times since launch after the initial preload, which had to be downloaded again before decypting) L4d2 starts updating itself in Steam, update ends up being a re-download of the FULL 6gb game. Closing steam and restarting it multiple times didn’t work (unlike with the preload where it did work and kicked up the decryption) and now the game won’t play unless the “update” is downloaded. This is all happening on my wifes computer & account, on mine however there is no such update and no problems whatsoever.

      Problem #4 : L4D2 Pink/dark texture problem
Fix : no known fix as of this posting

This is a video memory problem. SOMETIMES i have this error with Team Fortress 2 also. ALT+TAB frequently just get this worse. My video card memory cames overclocked by factory, but the datasheet of the memory says that theses chips only handle 50Mhz LESS than the factory default overclock one…

I dunno, if you guys with this problem could try with another video card to confirm this… =)

I am having problems with L4D2 with the lag issue. I don’t understand but each server I been through. A horde or intro causes a skyrocket of lag that goes up to 1500+ ping for me. My wireless is at optimal close range and highest degree in broadband technology. I am running on Windows Vista 64-bit operating system, which I like to add the CSC file doesn’t exist in “windows”. I have 6 gigabytes of ram, high quality grade. An i7 Intel 970 duo core CPU overlocked and liquid at safe and fast running levels. Along with an overclocked GTX 295 graphics card, updated to its highest software. The game runs smooth and flawless as it should be, yet lag persists at intro or hording. I don’t know why it causes so much. I been through each problem, and issue and yet it still continues. Am I at Steam’s mercy for them to fix it?

    63. raymond chan — November 24, 2009 @ 8:18 pm

My L4D2 always have runtime error. The application will be forced to close down in an unusual way.

      Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400

Primary hard disk : 101GB Free (149 GB Total)

The CSC folder is operating system specific. If you have XP, I know for sure you don’t have a CSC folder so there is no need to look. I do not remember if it is specific to Vista or Windows 7 off hand, but if you don’t have the folder, that fix is not going to be of any use to you.

That being said, I am having the crash to desktop problem directly after the intro movie (never make it to the main menu). This issue seems to have cropped up after the NOV. 21st patch. Previous to this I was able to play with little difficulty (after using the -lv load option).

      I’m running:
      AMD Athalon 64 dual core
      2 gigs of ran
      G-Force 8800 GT

Anyone knows if there is a way to uninstall the patch?:)

can someone help me? my l4d2 didnt work and had constant CTDs and sometimes DEP errors, i managed to get my l4d2 to work using a crack which replaced the client.dll file in my /left4dead2/bin folder.. it worked flawlessly for 3 whole campaigns however i recently tried playing online through tunngle and i did however it began to CTD again and now even replacing the client.dll doesnt fix it :( is there anything i can do?

Like some other posters, I randomly get a black screen with sound looping and a hard crash. Not only does the game crash, but it brings the entire system down–the monitor outright loses its signal even though the sound continues looping. Requires a hard reboot.

And when I say randomly, I mean randomly. Sometimes I can get through full campaigns without issue, sometimes it crashes within 5 minutes of playing.

bcdedit / set (current) nx AlwaysOff (To disable)

      done this, run the game.

OK!!!! Guys for those who’s having problems regarding about the “No permission to run this game”.. yea i also encountered that problem.. and the only fix a can offer you is this… Use the steam in order to play the game… well thats how i did my and it works like a charm.. and also for those who wanted to play the game without any problems going directly to menus of l4d2.. just use the “LAUNCHER.EXE” on the game.. (use it on the steam) then you can now play the game.. but on my case..i do can play the game but it seems that i can only play like 2-5mins lol.. im having problems on CTD to..(come to think of it im using a downloaded version lol) so for those who are having problem like CTD with ORIGINAL VERSION here’s a little hint.. when u launch the launcher.exe and while on the game go the task manager and find the “LAUNCHER.EXE” and set its affinity only on 1 CPU(probably cpu 0 for me xD) then after wards.. that wont crush the gameplay anymore.. (i tried on me but it doesnt work since im using a downloaded version xD) but my friend says that it works on him. since he got a original.. if this doesnt work i dont know anymore lol.. dont worry ill keep finding solutions.. xD until then hopes and dreams for everybody…

P.S.. dont blame me if it doesnt work.. im just suggesting a possible solution k? hope i helped ^.^vw

For most people experiencing CTD and regular in-game crashing as well as sound issues and ‘polygon’ errors and the melee attack crash, try this great little file, Crack%20Ganso%20Fix.rar (Google it or join a forum that has it). This works with the Pirategay and Razor 1911 release. To install follow the instructions for installing the game for the above mentioned releases (note this may work for the official release as well). With the Razor 1911 release, allow game to install fully BUT do not install the cracked update for it that comes with that release, instead, open Crack%20Ganso%20Fix.rar and copy over the entire contents of the rar file into your L4D2 directory overwriting everything. Lastly, when files have copied over completely, there should be a file called stryder (configuration settings), open it in notepad and you will notice 5 paragraphs whose first first lines each begin with:
[C:\.....]. The first of which should be changed to the drive that L4D2 is installed on, for me that was [F:\.....]. The other 4 instances should be changed to your windows partition which for me was [G:\.....] but most people would need put C:\ or D:\ and change the path name if necessary! For me this looked like:

      [F:\...]
      ……..
      ……..

      [G:\...]
      ……..
      ……..

      [G:\...]
      ……..
      ……..

      [G:\...]
      ……..
      ……..

      [G:\...]
      ……..
      ……..

When you’re done making all the necessary changes, save it before closing notepad and launch ’start Left 4 Dead 2.bat’ also located in the L4D2 directory and above all have fun!

Left 4 Dead 2 Crashes because of “data execution prevention” on vista ultimate x64 !! (ON or OFF it doesn’t matter, and I’ve tried the CSC folder thing and still crashes)

It did not happen in the campaign ” Dead Center ” but it happened in ” Dark Carnival ” , I don’t know if in the others. Is it because I played with Ellis in the fist and now with Nick in the second? (silly thing).

I’d like to add a fix to,

      Problem #10 : Left4Dead 2 problematic lag(freezing intermitently), slowdown and eventually crashing

I was experiencing frequent and random slowdowns (frame rate loss) even in single player mode and even when randomly pressing the ‘use button’.

The suggestions (disable multicore, v sync, pagedpool memory, use nHancer, and vcard driver update) were not working for me so I finally tried disabling all of the non-windows programs running at start up. Sure enough I was able to find out that my anti-virus was causing the instability. This was probably due to the anti-virus taking up paged pool memory. Now I just have to make sure this program is disabled when I want to play and everything runs perfectly.

Hey guys, I got so frustrated with L4D 2 freezing after random periods (usually when theres no zombies about, safe rooms and such) of play. With absolutely no help from steam/valve, who just kept on sending me generic troubleshooting issues, I found an annoyingly simple fix (after all that i’ve been through).
It just required running the game in “windowed (without border)” mode in the in-game video options. I can run it with all settings maxed out (1920 x 1080 res, makes it full screen for me anyway).
Hope this works for peeps getting the freeze requiring restart problem.

This is what it is about when my game hang and jump to desktop. I’m using Vista by the way.

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. Harmful programs can try to attack Windows by attempting to run (also known as execute) code from system memory locations reserved for Windows and other authorized programs. These types of attacks can harm your programs and files.

DEP can help protect your computer by monitoring your programs to make sure that they use system memory safely. If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you.

(another possible solution for crashes and peformance issues, specifically for 64bit users/multi-gpu users/overclockers)

there’s a lot of info here just because i hope some of the info will help somebody.

I recently built a new rig, top of the line system (well, not super top of the line, but pretty good). and after hours and hours of troubleshooting, i finally have my left 4 dead 2 running stable, no crashes, errors or performance issues. Since theres a bit of info i have to give, i’ll try to organize it a bit so its a bit eaiser to swallow. here goes nothing. this fix is aimed at users with Win 7 64-bit, multi-gpu (sli/crossfire), oc’ed systems (only because that is what i have, but if you are having performance issues or crashes, it may help you)

      My Rig:

      Core i7 920 @ 4ghz (but now running at 3.6, stock is 2.66)
      6gb Ram Tri-ch @ 1600mhz
      2x gtx 260’s at 625mhz in SLI
latest nvidia drivers 195.81 beta (dec 15th release)

      Problems that I was experiencing:

      Random stuttering while in game
      good performance until map change
      Crashes to desktop
hard locks (whole system locks up)
      Crash to auto reboot system
performance drops over time to eventual crashing
      l4d2 closes unexpectedly
      stuttering

these errors were happening at least in 15 min intervels but generally more frequent than that.

i know that sounds like a lot of problems, but i was only having a few at a time after trying each fix on this site, plus other fixes that i found on other sites. hence the hours and hours of troubleshooting.

      Solution:

before trying my solution, i suggest you try all the fixes relative to your problem. the fixes that i’ve found all around the internet helped me with my process of elimination into isolating the problem (for me anyway).

      A bit of background:

When i first built this pc and installed l4d2, it worked for the most part, i only had 1 gtx 260 at the time and would only get random stuttering and crashes every once in a while (maybe after a couple of hours of playing or so). it wasn’t that bad at the time. a few steam updates later and an added gtx 260 and i got all sorts of problems. I tried tons of file fixes, drivers (tried the last 4 drivers, both whql and beta, 8total), changed tons of options in l4d, changed driver options, (such as how SLI operates), disabled sli, 3d settings, reinstalled steam and l4d, disble multicore rendering, vysnc, AA, win compatibility mode, etc etc. i even tried all these options in different combinations. i even removed 1 gtx 260, and than swapped for the other, but was still getting problems. sometimes the problems would get worse, or they would get better, but still annyoying as hell. I did this all pretty much systematically, only changing one option at a time, than changing the other and going through all the combinations. i was pretty close to throwing in the towel and calling it a fail on Valve’s part, seeing how so many people are having problems. afterall, all my other games and apps work just fine. i figured it was a win 7 64 bit problem or nvidia driver problem. rite when i was about to give up, i spoke to a friend who bought a brand new system, dell xps, with pretty much the same specs as my system. nvidia card, win 7 64-bit, and his system worked perfectly. that had me thinking… the only real difference between his system and mine is that i OC’ed mine and his is stock.

      SOLUTION:

go back to stock settings or overclock your computer right!

by no means am i an expert, all i can say is my rig is working fine now. originally, i overclocked my system to 4ghz. i ran all the burn in testing (prime95), plus benchmarking (3dmark vantage) and my system was stable and rock solid. no crazy over heating, artifacting or errors. heck, l4d was the only thing acting up. since it was my last hope, i decided to look at the oc’ing, originally, i went through a template to get my voltages and settings right for a stable 4ghz, pretty much through trial and error. than i came across this article on how to overclock >>> http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=7528

in this article, it also notes that if you don’t do it right, you can get gpu errors, ahhh, a bit more enlightenment for me.

after a couple of more hours i settled on 3.6ghz (btw, my stock is 2.66) and a bit of tweaking to get it stable with prime95. i let it run for an hour at full load to make sure it was pretty stable). than i restored every setting that i ever changed through the fixes that i read about back to defaults. all driver setting defaults and l4d2 defaults (which is highest settings l4d2 can run, cept 4x AA, @ 1900×1200) than i finally loaded up l4d2 and started playing. 2 hours of no crashes or stuttering or performance issues!! so i stopped playing. i threw back in my other gtx 260, setup sli and tested again. played for another hour and no problems! (i only had time for an hour because i had to go to work this morning, i’ll be doing more testing tonite to see how stable l4d is). once i verify stability, i’ll be trying to get back to 4ghz now that i know how to oc right! i aimed this fix at win7 64 bit multi gpu users because i figure anybody that has a rig like this is probably an enthusiast and oc’ing anyway. please comment on the fix if it helped you!

Fix 1 : Disable multicore rendering
      Fix 2 : mat_queue_mode 0 (console command)
Fix 3 : Update Nvidia Drivers to Beta 195.39
      credits: oct42, redninja, mic

when i type mat_queue_mode 0 in console (`), and then shown
      “unknown command mat_queue_mode”

      wtf so?

    211. evil_nine — December 23, 2009 @ 3:16 am

      the console only available “mat_queue_priority”

      not “mat_queue_mode”

      any answer?

Hi everyone, I just installed l4d2 and the game starts up normally, you see the intro no problem menue no problem, but when i start a new game right after the loading is complete it crashed to the desktop with no error, I had no problems with l4d(original), I’m running it on an hp pavilion dv5 laptop: 2.4 core 2 duo E8400, 3 gb DDR2 ram @ 800mhz, Nvidia Geforce 9600m GT 512mb with windows vista home premium service pack 1, i tried all the video settings with no difference (l4d played smoothly on high settings),The only solution here provided by this #11 i believe starts with you locating a CSC folder but there is no CSC folder anywhere any help is appreciated.

it might be funny but it worked for me

    226. MrPhoenix — December 26, 2009 @ 5:48 pm

Okay, so I had that crash to desktop, too.
I spent two days working on it, and finally, it seems to work. Following combination made it for me:

Newest CCC / Catalyst / Radeon Drivers
      Start L4D 2 as admin.
Deacitivate 3 out of 4 processor cores.

Spent half a hour playing without a crash. Looks good. Wasn’t able to play through the Atrium, cause the friggin’ game crashed on me every few minutes.

I played around with admin rights, processor cores, drivers, graphic card temperature and watnot before, but nothing worked. That combination above did.

      My specs:
      - Processor
      AMD Phenom II X4 945

      - RAM
      4 Gig DDR

      - Mainboard
      GF8100 M2+ TE (BIOSTAR, nForce)

      - Graphic Card
Radeon HD 4870 (1 Gig RAM)

      - OS
      Windows 7 Ultimate

    228. MrPhoenix — December 26, 2009 @ 5:53 pm

      Dammit, PS:

I pretty much went amok within the Admin Rights Management in Windows 7, so I had and have access to everything. Inclusive CSC. I guess, that’s playing a part, too.
      Soooo:

      - Newest Drivers
      - Admin Acces to CSC and everything else on my hard disk
      - Starting the game as admin
      - Switching out of the game to the Task Manager to disable all CPU cores except Core 0

      = Working L4D 2.

my left 4 dead 2 is exiting its own

    237. ultimasoldier — December 28, 2009 @ 4:45 pm

hey guys i found the solution for engine error for left 4 dead 2 follow this:One of the major reasons why the game crashes seems to be due to a system folder
(CSC – Client Side Caching) not having necessary permissions and thus becomes
inaccessible from within the game. This problem can be rectified by giving
full access to the folder in question.

      • Browse to your Windows Directory.
“C:\Windows” by default for Windows 7 and Vista.

      Open CSC Directory.

Inside you will see another folder usually named after a version number (i.e. 2.0.6).
Try to open this folder. If you get the error message; ‘You don’t currently have
permission to access this folder’, Left 4 Dead 2 crash is probably caused by this.
If you do not get any error at this point, the crash is not caused by CSC permissions issue.
If you do get an an error, you’ll need to give full access to the folder so that
it will be accessible to Left 4 Dead 2. Right-click the folder and select properties.
Open ‘Security’ tab then press ‘Advanced’ button.
Go to the ‘Owner’ tab and press edit. Set Administrator to be the
owner of the object (Full access). Press OK to all windows and close.
      Now run the game.

Issue : L4D2 loads valve screen and start video then crashes to desktop

Fix : verify game cache through steam properties (right click L4D2<properties<local files<verify integrity of game cache), steam replaces corrupt files.

    245. djk — December 30, 2009 @ 10:05 am

The game freezes and stutters randomly, and the game Does the same thing whenever I press the USE key or whenever a SPECIAL INFECTED is killed. Changing graphics settings and keys does not solve anything.

I hate this game. I want my money back. The glitches, crashes, errors- it’s ridiculous. Did you spend any time on this game at all, Valve? I tried everything and I still run into glitches and the game still crashes and disconnects from Steam. Irritated because I shouldn’t have to do anything- Valve should fix these problems for us. Waste of money. Left 4 Dead 1 is so much better.

    252. gard — January 2, 2010 @ 12:37 am

I sold my L4D2 game back to Gamestop. I couldn’t deal with all the bugs in this game. If they come out with another one, I hope it goes to PS3 and I hope Valve has nothing to do with it.

    257. Franxyz — January 4, 2010 @ 1:15 am

1ST: DO WHAT EVERYTHING I SAY AND I MEAN EVERYTHING I SAY… IF YOU PEOPLE WANT TO FIX YOU GAME…..
2ND: YOU “MUST” HAVE A “GARENA” AND “STEAM”
3RD: ALL OF YOU PROBLEMS WILL BE SOLVE…
      4TH: DELETE YOUR L4D2 AND RE-INSTALL IT
5TH: DOWNLOAD THE PATCH OF GARENA (2.0.0.4 GARENA WORKS) IT SEEMS SOME OF YOU GUYS ARE FAMILIAR WITH IT RIGHT??? IF SOME OF YOU GUYS DONT KNOW IT… DOWNLOAD IT HERE http://thepiratebay.org/search/left%204%20dead%202%20garena%20works/0/99/0
6TH: EXTRACT IT IN ANOTHER FOLDER AFTER ITS DONE DOWNLOADING
      7TH: KILL YOUR DOG….
      8TH: JUST JOKING…
      9TH: AFTER THAT YOU WILL SEE 3 INSTALLER ( L4D2SP_1.b.exe , L4D2UP v2.0.0.4.exe , FAH.exe)
      10TH: 1ST INSTALL THE L4D2UP v2.0.0.4.exe NEXT L4D2SP_1.b.exe LAST the FAH.exe
11TH: BEFORE I CONTINUE LOOK AT YOUR L4D2 FOLDER YOU WILL SEE A ” left4dead2[Offline].exe YOU CAN PLAY NOW BUT THIS LAUNCHER IS ONLY FOR OFFLINE THE LAUNCHER WILL NOT WORK IF GARENA AND STEAM ARE ONLINE…
12TH: YOU NEED TO DO THIS FIRST BEFORE OPENING L4D2 OFFLINE AND ONLINE LOOK AT THE FOLDER AGAIN YOU WILL SEE A “IniGen.exe” ENTER IT… YOU WILL NOTICE THAT IT JUST POPS UP AND CLOSE..
13TH.1: AND NOW THIS PART OF MY INSTRUCTION IS FOR “ONLINE MULTIPLAYER AND LAN MULTIPLAYER” OPEN STEAM AND AND GO “Offline Mode” PS… ITS YOUR OWN CHOICE IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL OR NOT THE “Dedicated Server” THE ONLY THING IS THAT ITS “OPTIONAL” FOR OTHERS… I DONT USE IT
*NOTE BEFORE I CONTINUE YOU “MUST” HAVE A HIGH VIDEO CARD (EXTREMELY RECOMMENDED)
13TH.2: OPEN GARENA GO TO ANY ROOM YOU LIKE CLICK “SETTINGS” BROWSE AND FIND YOUR LAUNCHER IN YOUR FOLDER (NOT THE OFFLINE) AND CLICK OK… THIS IS FOR LAN AND ONLINE MULTIPLAYER AND BELOW TYPE THIS OR COPY AND PASTE IT( +sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0 +sv_lan 1 -lv )
14TH: PLAY AND HAVE FUN!!! ^_^\/

*IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG CHAT WITH ME HERES MY YM ( z3ro0n3_01@yahoo.com )

Alright, i got the worst problem with both L4D and L4D2 in the world. Like two other posters here, my system randomly reboots after 10-30 minutes of playing. No lags, no bugs – just auto reboot.
I’ve tried naturally everything – disabling multicore, setting mat_queue_wait 0, removing overclocking, different ingame settings, downloading some registry files – everything! No any other game cause such problems.

Guys! I got almost ALL the answers for your problems with L4D 2!!! it worked for me really fast! For those guys who had the problem with permissions or engine or change the date to October 29th, follow these steps!!!

      Download Links:
      http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M84H9NGB
      http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IBNIQ8GW

      1) Download both link rar’s.
      2) Unrar both inside the Left4Dead Folder. (bin inside bin folder ofc)
      3) Execute the IniGen.exe file (this create the stryder.ini file)
      4) Done! remember to add “-console” to the shortcut properties!

ATTENTION (Do not open the .reg file called “l4dregkeyspanish.reg”, its used to change the game translantion to Spanish)

      No date change needed.
You can use all the weapons without crashing.
      Witch bug no longer exists.
      You can play OnLine (Tested)
Maybe you get an error when closing L4D but its not a big deal.

I have to say this CTD issue is EA’s calling card. I have built multiple computers, for various EA games over the years (Command and Conquer Generals, Zero Hour, Tiberium Wars etc…) all in the hopes of a stable and fun game. I have yet to succeed, even remotely. I have sworn off EA before as a result but I didn’t realize Valve had sold their souls when I bought this latest POS.

I have read countless posts like this one over the years, many on official EA sites. All the suggested solutions are useless – the game(s) are very obviously bugged. All the people who say their game runs great are EA smurfs. I have yet to hear anyone even claim more than a couple hours of stability ffs. Its just a ruse to keep us fooled before we ask for out money back.

IF anyone with 100+ hours of crash-less game-play (consecutive hours wise guy), in any of the games I mentioned… cares to reply with their exact system specs, OS detail, driver versions, I might just bother to build one more gaming PC in my life. Otherwise f-it, I am out.

Receive a Microsoft Visual C++ error common to what others have posted here about during gameplay. Doesn’t seem to have a specific trigger but the game minimizes and gives me a red X error with the title being a Visual C++ error and Left3Dead2.exe is the source of the error. Performed all of the above “fixes” and “workarounds” with no success, still can’t play the game without it randomly crashing. SPECS: Intel Core2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz with 4GB DDR2 667, Sapphire Radeon Vapor X 4870 PCIX 16 (Catalyst driver date 11/24/09, though I updated those in early January from ATI’s site…) Windows Vista Business (NO SP’s). Even performed that CSC security permissions diddy to no avail. GOD I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME!!!!!!

    281. Adam — January 22, 2010 @ 12:31 pm

sorry, I meant… Left4Dead2.exe being the source of the error… my bad.

      i have fixed my problem!

all i did was mess around with the director settings in the colsole:
      director_no_bosses 1
      director_no_mobs 1
      director_no_specials 1
      director_start
      director_stop
and i did use some cheats as well but this might fix it. i have only tried this on my l4d2 Razor-1911 rip. so give it a try.

I have left 4 dead 2 I start it and it says 2 things the first is that steam is not running the second is that I hav not got permission to run left 4 dead 2 when I got it and installed it it wasn’t official like I thought it was there was Russian writing in the installation box and when I start it up there is a very small squashed screen showing the starting sequence and a very small square screen showing the starting sequence as well and the rest of the screen is pink so any solutions here or what.

      Hello!

I’m having a steam-less version of ‘Left 4 dead 2′ and it was all the time crashing to desktop without any message. It happened after the intro video, between the loading and the title screen. The problem got solved after shutting down steam while running ‘Left 4 dead 2′.
I know it’s a pretty simple problem, but maybe it helps someone…

For people who have just bought Left 4 Dead 2:

If you have installed it and it goes to a “blue screen of death” mode and restarts, you need to update drivers lol

    311. undead — February 7, 2010 @ 8:14 pm

    312. Ivan — February 9, 2010 @ 9:38 am

I guess I have Problem #11. Everything is pretty much right until I get to 8). Because when I tick full control, it says that I have been denied full control or something, (It’s in Russian so I can’t translate what it says exactly) so when I run the game, it obviously still says “No permission to run Left 4 Dead 2″ What the heck!?!?! Please! Please! Please! someone help me!

    313. Blahhh123 — February 9, 2010 @ 11:22 am

I have problem #3 but i turn off those to things but it Still keeps freezing! please help!

    314. QuinRiva — February 9, 2010 @ 2:46 pm

Fix for Engine Error ”No permissions to run ‘left4dead2? ”:

Add the appropriate l4d2regkey (either x32 or x64) to the registry. Files ccan be found in the Left 4 Dead 2 root directory (double click on one to add it to the registry).
