If you have any problems with any videos causeing lag, check in this folder! here is a link to the codec to view .bik files so you can locate which one causes you lag and remove it (but make sure you back up these files b4 u go deleting them!)

When i first installed Bioshock 2 it was running without difficulty. When i opened up the map in-game, the game crashed and now whenever i try to open the game or the multiplayer, it opens in an extremely small resolution, like 50×50.

  3. copyofcopy — February 10, 2010 @ 7:22 am

for everyone getting a bioshock2.exe error when trying to load the sp game – i fixed the issue for myself, hopefully it’ll work for you as well.

first, load windows live from the start menu and let it download an update.

directx released an update a couple days ago – download and install that.

finally, restart your computer and load the game!

i also let windows update install a few things that appeared today. not sure if those had anything to do with the game working now but it cant hurt to try if you’re still having trouble getting it to run!

  4. Cody — February 10, 2010 @ 7:29 am

The game works just fine during the following events:

    Launching
    Multiplayer
    Loading Games
    Cinematics

But, during Single Player I can only play about 10 minutes (tops) before my game randomly freezes. It has happened several times now. i’ve updated my ATI Graphics driver, C++, etc… No help. There is no specific theme as to when it freezes, just different times during gameplay (Ex. Picking up an Eve Hypo).

    System

    Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
    1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo
    ATI Radeon 3850
    2gigs of Ram

  5. Cody — February 10, 2010 @ 7:50 am

    *Edit to previous Post*

I noticed after several tries just now that is only freezes after i pick up any random item or use items like First Aid Kits or Eve Hypos. Maybe that helps in diagnosing the problem.

In Windows XP, hitting escape to save goes to a screen that only has single player, quit to multiplayer, and quit to windows, which in turn makes it to where you have to load your last save, so all progress is lost.

  8. Justin Javan — February 10, 2010 @ 10:37 am

Bioshock 2’s screen goes black when I set vertical sync to off. I have to start the task manager to close the game and restart it.

Intel 975E O.C. to 4 Ghz liquid cooling
    EVGA Classified 3x SLI MOBO
2xEVGA 295 graphics cards running in quad core

  9. Levmeister — February 10, 2010 @ 1:43 pm

Bioshock 2 works fine at first, then at a certain point, somewhere around the place where you first see two enemies in the water and the hint tells you that you can kill them with electricity, it starts to lag really bad. Then, when I go around, with the lag, and try to pick up the rivet gun, the game crashes. The game only crashes when I pick up the rivet gun, it is just slow otherwise. I have tried updating everything(graphics card etc.), I don’t seem to have directx 9, and the settings are all down to the lowest. I have tried with vsync on and off. Please help!

  10. zakenkristaren — February 10, 2010 @ 1:49 pm

when starting the game i double click the desktop shortcut, my mouse cursor has the hourglass, then it goes away, i can hear my cd-drive working. then both just stop and my desktop never changes, it doesn’t freeze, the game just doesn’t start, no loading screen or anything. any help would be appreciated

  11. SpudOfWar — February 10, 2010 @ 5:24 pm

I am having a similar problem to levmeister, except without the lag. when I try and pick up the rivet gun, it just locks up.

  12. Beastofthedeep — February 10, 2010 @ 5:36 pm

Installed- launched successfully, made it through the intro cinematic, then randomly crashes after hearing “myself” (Im assuming) breathing. Attempted to run “as administrator” with the same result.
System: WinVista 64-bit, Nvidia 250 GTS 1 GB, 4GB RAM- stock, no overclock or anything fancy. All drivers up to date.

Very frustrated to say the least.

  13. eclipse — February 10, 2010 @ 7:09 pm

    update for section 7

“”Question #2 : Why does Bioshock 2 look ugly even when settings are set to the highest.
Answer : Bioshock 2 uses lower resolution textures compared to other games of it’s age :( sad to say that it’s working as intended”"

Answer: bad texture popping, taking 30 seconds and longer for textures in an area to load. sometimes the textures in that area do not load at all.

  14. Repsack — February 10, 2010 @ 7:36 pm

As with zakenkristaren, my bioshock 2 wont even start when i click launch, just a bit loading and then nothing.. i bought it over steam.

  15. zakenkristaren — February 10, 2010 @ 8:13 pm

mine isn’t steam, just the cd version. so it doesn’t seem to be the version thats the problem. oddly enough though, while single player wont start at all, multiplayer opens and works.

  16. humajs — February 10, 2010 @ 9:01 pm

I have problems in launcher , i didnt bought it , i downloaded it , torent file , razzor1911 , so i dont know how all of you people have problems whit torent file or CD file .When i start the game , he shows logo , than shows error send , dont send error report , you know this file in other games or other files , when need to press send , or dont send button , and i put many cracks , and missing files if anyone have torrent game ,help me please , i read about the same problems , only i dont know if it is torrent or original game ,i know its crack problem , but maybe its in my computer becose only some people have this problem when i read comments in my torrent site ,for all of them worked fine , but me and other , someone have the same problem, HELP somehow , i waited this game so long , and now a crash , god damned , i dont want to buy the game.

  17. foo — February 10, 2010 @ 9:25 pm

I find that the game will randomly crash and force me to reboot my PC if I use DirectX 10.

This especially happens in any scenes where you get submerged in water, such as very early on when the big sister smashes the glass and floods the room.

Switching to DirectX 9 totally fixes this problem but I would much rather play with 10 since my PC is more than capable.

  18. pjmeffen — February 10, 2010 @ 9:46 pm

    hey,

The game itself runs smoothly for my system, apart from an annoying texture problem which spoils the atmosphere! What happens is that some textures are rendered in blue or with some weird-looking red and green dots or stripes.

I’m running with a 512mb HD Saphire/Redeon, a Dual Core 2 2.3 and with 3 gig of ram. Any thing I can do to resolve the issue?

  19. Headshot — February 10, 2010 @ 11:01 pm

Single player work fine for me,
thoguht id try out muliplayer made my player and then when i went into the lobby its crashed.
Now everytime i try and laucher the program i get onto the main menu and freezes/crashes with the loading screen.

You would think they would have all these problems sorted out after what Bio shock 1 was like !

anyone has the same problem or knows how to fix it please let me know !!
    Cheers

  20. supdawg — February 10, 2010 @ 11:02 pm

I’m experiencing soundissues, like, distorted sounds during underwater parts of the game, especially in one place. Also sounds going missing when there are too many sounds going on.

I also had a bug where the plasmids stopped working in the middle of a big fight, the hand was just still and Q didnt work (this happened multiple times), although it did work to change plasmid with the F1, F2, F3 etc buttons. Still quite annoying.

My specs are C2D E6750, GeForce 8800 GTX, 3gb ram.

  21. WG — February 10, 2010 @ 11:17 pm

when i first started the game ….it gave me this error

  23. Mikkel — February 11, 2010 @ 12:04 am

@16 L2Spell btw buy the game. cracks man… what a douche.
and mine doesn’t work either, cant even get to the main screen, crashes before that.. just the error that say’s: “BioShock 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” and there isn’t a solution yet. so gotta wait. cheers to all that can play the game ^^

  24. Rayjingstorm — February 11, 2010 @ 12:22 am

The game loads fine. I can load my save game. It doesn’t take long to load, and everything is smooth. I can play as long as I want with no errors, freezing, lagging, etc., Even in the boss battles, picking up rivet gun, underwater scenes everything is smooth. Then i attempt to open any ingame menu, like hitting “M” for the map and hints, or “esc” for the pause menu, and it all goes down hill. I drop to 1 FPS(but it seems to be lower than 1, as it actually refreshes about 1 time every 5 seconds). It seems odd that a game that has no problems rendering the actual game would have problems loading a static menu!
It is difficult to navigate my mouse to exit to windows(i save with F12) and get out because i must guess at where my cursor will land, wait 10 seconds, and then when it finnaly gets over the button, click the mouse like mad to be sure i am clicking upon the next refresh. Then i do it all over again for are you sure and do you want to save.
Also, during multiplayer, just after it loads, it always says i lost connection and exits to lobby.
PLEASE HELP! teh game is realy fun, and i want to enjoy it!

  25. Rayjingstorm — February 11, 2010 @ 1:46 am

Only solution to problem(see post above) is to remove “waterfall.bik” and “map.bik” from the BinkMovies folder in the Bioshock2 folder (Steamapps/bioshock2/SP/content/binkmovies/)You won’t see the pretty graphics when u open these menus, but they will work!
If you have any problems with any videos causeing lag, check in this folder! here is a link to the codec to view .bik files so you can locate which one causes you lag and remove it (but make sure you back up these files b4 u go deleting them!)

  26. Spenser — February 11, 2010 @ 1:47 am

I had issue #4, it would look like the game was starting but instantly crash with an error message. Tried -dx9 and -nointro, compatibility, updated ATI drivers, etc with no avail.

After reading a forum post, I changed the background color setting from 16-bit to 32-bit and now it works! Hopefully this helps someone else.

  27. Cake — February 11, 2010 @ 2:55 am

Updated the guide with Spenser and Rayjingstorm’s suggestions and eclipse’s update.

Then fixes for Mikkel’s error : check solution for Section I (Crashes) Problem #4

im kind of in a hurry right now so i’ll be updating the guide later in case i missed solutions posted by the comment`ers

  30. Thomas — February 11, 2010 @ 4:16 am

I hit the “Failed to load saved game” problem and was able to work around this by creating a new Windows user account and running the game under that.

I think the problem is that ‘My Documents’ isn’t mapped to the default directory in my usual account. When I changed it back to default and copied the save games over I was able to load them.

  31. John — February 11, 2010 @ 4:52 am

My problem is that I cannot open single player, it just doesn’t let me. :(

  32. Carsten — February 11, 2010 @ 5:23 am

    Good “luck” while patching… ;-)

  33. ThatCanadianGuy — February 11, 2010 @ 6:05 am

Yeah I have the same problem as Carsten, the screen suddenly goes black around 10-15 minutes in and it just hangs. No way to minimize or anything. Requires a manual restart.

  35. bullet — February 11, 2010 @ 6:41 am

I bought the game and have installed it. when i try to run the game for the 1st time it attempts to check the release date. this gets to about 30% then fails. it says:
at error occurred during the online release date check. click retry to try again.
you can click retry til the cows come home and it does zip.

    Further message:
if the error persists, please click cancel to abort the process and find a solution at the support website: http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock2/activation

Most pointless website ever just says that the gamecant be activated before midnight last night. yeah great thanks

If you use any kind of windows skinning program (hacked uxtheme.dll, tweakui, windowsblinds etc) put bioshock2.exe and any other related exes for mp and sp play as exclusions (so they wont be skinned). This fixed my problem I had with crashing at startup

  40. awp81 — February 11, 2010 @ 11:58 am

Bioshock 2 installs fine, and plays the intro movie beautifully. As soon as it gets to the point where the actual game begins, either from hitting Esc during the movie or letting the movie finish, my computer powers completely off. I get no error message, nothing, it’s like the power cord was yanked out of the computer. I have the newest updates, and have tried all of the suggested fixes for crashes, but no matter what I do, I’m still unable to play the game. My computer is not overheating, and every other game works fine, including Bioshock 1.

the game runs nearly perfect for me i have a little bit of lag sometimes but other than that pretty good, its real small tho completed it in 5-6 hours. i do have 2 problems first my plasmids disappear my hand totally disappears and doesn’t come back until i rescue a little sister (it disappears on its own and every time i zoom in with any weapon). my second problem is that sometimes when i press esc to pause the game instead of pausing it takes me back to the main menu loosing all my progress since my last save! (REALLY ANNOYING!!!) To anyone with the razor 1911 version you have to download the missing rar file then insert files into the binary folder which is located here (XP) –> HardDrive:\Program Files\2K Games\BioShock 2\SP\Builds\Binaries plus you have to insert the files out of the crack folder on the iso into the binary folder also. really easy! any problems with the install leave a msg here and il try to help the best i can :) (razor1991 only)

  42. devz — February 11, 2010 @ 12:06 pm

    razor 1911 even :p

  43. lukini — February 11, 2010 @ 12:55 pm

Solution for 1911 edition: Just look in the original installation folders (2K Games-> Bioshock 2-> SP-> builds -> binaries. Copy the binkw32.dll file found in there and paste it into the cracked SP folder-> builds-> Binaries folder. If you overwrote the original SP you have to reinstall the game, this time just rename the original SP folder something different and paste the cracked SP folder in the same directory.

Using any sort of vending machine (Circus/Gatherers/Gene Banks etc..) drops my FPS to about 0-2, making it quite difficult to buy anything. I can probably purchase 1 item per 1-2 minutes. Also when picking up Plasmids/Tonics also does the same thing, along with the videos. I end up just mashing ESC and SPACE to just skip it so I dont end up wasting 5 minutes on seeing the description.

    Windows XP
    ATI Radeon 4830 HD
    AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+
    2.19GHz

    Service Pack 2

I realize my CPU isnt the greatest. But while actually playing, I can get about 20-30 FPS.

Game will not accept the license/registration key when trying to launch the single player game. I’ve already deleted my files inside the bioshock 2 folder, allowing me to launch the game again without the crash to desktop bug. I have Internet connectivity, so that isn’t the prob. My system exceeds all of the recommended specs.

For working crack download razor 1119 missing files from isohunt and copy singleplayer crack to sp directory and same for multiplayer at least it worked with that crack in singleplayer. And if it still gives BioShock 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” Error then just simply goe screen setup and change settings from 16-bits to 32-bits and atlest after that it will be fine.

    Ik heb een installatie probleem:

Ik draai windows 7 32 bit. Ik heb bioshock 2 van razor en van reloaded. Beide in iso vorm.

    specs:
    Intel Core duo p8700 2,53Ghz
    4 Gb RAM
    Nvidia GeForce9400M 256mb.

Aan de specs zal het niet liggen…

Als iemand me kan helpen graag….

  51. TLW — February 11, 2010 @ 5:20 pm

translation in english :D Sorry bout that.

    I got a installation problem:

Im working on Windows 7 32 bit. I got both bioshock 2 releases: Razor and Reloaded. I tried 2 install both iso’s. But i got the same problem. Everytime i try to load the setup.exe i get a little black screen and disapears, no error, nothing…i try to set the compatibility to win xp en vista and so on. The same problem with both Iso’s.

I have tried the same on win 7 64 bit: Then i got another problem when i hit the setup.exe. I get a error screen wich say that it cannot be run on a 32 bit or 64 version on windows 7 …weird.

Im running bootcamp on a macbook pro with specs:
    Intel Core duo p8700 2,53Ghz
    4 Gb RAM
    Nvidia GeForce9400M 256mb.

So no worries there… Dont come tell me that it is because i have a mac…im running other games just fine.

I think its a setting problem in windows 7 but i dont know what kinda setting…seeying that most ppl can install the game just fine…

So if any1 out there can help me, that would be great! Thnx in advanced!

  52. Alexander — February 11, 2010 @ 7:11 pm

Ok, I had low fps menu problem and solved it by setting Bioshock2.exe, Right Click, Properties, Compatibility Mode ->Windows 2000, OK.

But, crashses are present. Some people solved those by setting “Reverb audio” to Off setting.

    Good luck guys.

I have a solution for a problem, and a question.

Everyone who is getting the insta-crash on startup, with no splashscreen or error message, here is a possible solution (it worked for me):

When I do this to fix problem 1: “Workaround :
    Delete everything in here.
    C:\Users\*Username*\Documents\Bioshock2
Then reload. (If you wish, backup the files).”
How will load my save files again? When I copy them back in it’s the same thing again?! So that means every time I get that bug I have to start the game over entirely!?

    Hi,
All the buttons on my keyboard stop working except the weapon slots(1-4 keys) and the Microsoft Live(Home key) after the cut-scene about the second plasmid ability. It’s not a video cut-scene but rather just stops you from moving to play audio.

Also, I have the 1.47Gb ripped version with no multiplayer, lower textures, and compressed video.

Anyone else with this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Turns out that Bioshock 2 (SP wise) hates Windows Blinds / Aston 2 desktop alteration software so if anyone has software of this type running in their background then they should turn it off.

Running steam version, works perfectly until the after the first fight with big sister. when she cracks the glass and the water floods in, about a second after the glass blows the computer turns off. No blue screen, it’s as if someone ripped the power cord out of the wall. Tried again with exact same results on exact same part, dunno what’s being called up to render the crash (or if GFWL attempts to give an achievement there or something?), but it instantly hard crashes my machine.

    As to the problem
    “SecuLauncher:Failed to start Application [2000] ”

You can Google for an answer, but its an issue with MSC++ 2005 redistributable. It has to be updated to SP1, which is included on the BS disk. Bioshock will attempt to update it during install but will not spit out an error message if it cannot. Problems may arise if Winblows cant find the uninstall package for it.

Before you go any further …
IMPORTANT! back up your “X:/windows/install” folder! IMPORTANT! If its already empty, I hope you have a backup or are pretty happy with what you have installed, cuz this is where all of the MSI uninstall info is kept.

Go to the control panel and see if you can uninstall it (backup first!). If you get a message asking you for the location, you may be in for a bit of work because its been deleted… and as a side affect for some reason, it may have deleted every file and directory in the Windows install folder as well. (More Microsoft Voodoo)

When it WAS installed, it copied an MSI file here and renamed it to an alphanumeric name. If it cannot find it, it wont uninstall… OR UPDATE! without the update = error[2000]

I found my fix here and though it applies to Vista, it worked in XP.

    http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/88060-how-do-i-uninstall-ms-c-redistributable.html#post434745

Once you have uninstalled it, be sure to restore your windows installer folder contents if they disappeared, and then run the vcredist____.exe found on the BS disk.

    That should get it

Can’t find the post again lol, but one said something about vending machine menus causing extreme lag. These are Bink Videos!!! If you read my post (24-25) you will see that the only way to fix this problem (short of a patch) is removing the video files. Go the that post, download the Bink tools, watch the videos and find the menus that are causing lag. I had to remove all 4 vending menus, pause and map menu, and all of the “educational” vids for new skills/plasmids to get my lag to stop(also did for MP). Hope this helps “Anonymous” lol.

I unfortunately have not found a solution but when and if I do i will post it here.

    @Rose
I think you can fix your problem by reinstalling Direct X at this link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/aboutGFW/pages/directx.aspx

Its the links down below to the right on the page.

Basically, I bought the game on steam last night, played it for a while with no problems. Then I paused the game and it crashed for no reason so I went to reload the game and every time I try it crashes again. So I reinstalled it and got the same problem again. Any ideas?

I have a stupid problem that annoys me so much, I’m in a level in which i have to save 3 little sisters and suddenly after saving the last one all my weapons vanished except for the drill, the camera and the security hacker WHAT SHOULD I DO PLZ SAVE ME THXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  103. sexypizza — February 14, 2010 @ 8:00 am

the game is flickering the minute i start it. i enabled V sync nothing happened. i searched around in the Nvedia control panel to turn off the Sli i didn’t find anything but i don’t think its on. also tired playing it with the windows 2000 compatibility thing didn’t work. i messed around the control panel and turned off all the settings for the game, still nothing.

i am now completely stomped… please help i really want to play this game badly.

by the way this isn’t the first game to flicker i have another one “beyond good and evil” that does the same thing but all my other games are fine.

im very sure i have the recommended requirements and my windows is XP

  104. ThatCanadianGuy — February 14, 2010 @ 8:54 am

I think I found the problem and i have it fixed, windows games live will update when you open the game and this is important because this update fixes the problem I have. If you let the automatic (or almost) update go through and you follow the instruction you should be okay, just make sure you leave it alone until prompted or it might crash.

    Hopefully this helps.

    ThatCanadianGuy

  105. Poersch — February 14, 2010 @ 6:50 pm

@kareem: If you save the last of the 3 little sisters you get a special tonic for the drill that increases its damage but deactivates all other weapons.

With a legit copy you wouldnt have the problem you have right now. Dont you atleast owe the developers the measly 50$ for the game they worked hard on?

LOL Funny how all the people who come on this forum looking for help with their Ripped Bioshock2 games usually sound like they’ve never taken an English class in their life.

And those of you saying BioShock2’s graphic suck, maybe you should check the system your running them on. heres my system:

CPU: i7 940 (Virtually an 8 core processor)
    RAM: 8gigs
VID: Nvidia 295 (an over 1.7 gig card)
OS: Vista Ultimate 64bit (DX10 BABY OH YA)

BioShock has been running flawlessly for me. non of that slow texture rendering as some of you say you are getting. I have every thing set to highest(at 1920×1440 on a 20inch Graphic Series Viewsonic), and everything is Sharp, Crisp, and Always Rendered!

I dont know what you guy mean by the textures not being the greatist. Again i say its your systems, because ALL the graphics, Including the textures, are Rediculously impressive in this game, heading the graphics race right along side with Modern Warfare 2.

No i havent had any issues with this game(accept with live, Games for Windows live Sucks Ballz! Steam is way better) untill recently. I think im nearing the end of the adventure.
and Im about to rescue Eleanor. I saved the game, and then began the fight with the two big sisters. and then CRASH. After all this time. playing the game with not one problem, get near the end, and it crashes. and not only that, when i tryed to reload the game, it said LIVE NOT INSTALLED(but it was) and it forced me to download the Live install exe. I let it do its thing, try to restart the game, again ERROR LIVE NOT INSTALLED. restart my computer, game successfully loads, just get in the map and, CRASH. turn computer off for the night. turn comp back on the next day. load bioshock, now i get Grapical errors(little boxes across the middle of the screen, seems to be assosiated with the animation in the background, but also with the Live program) at Main Menu, and everytime i try to fight those Two Big Sisters to save eleanor, my game crashes. all my other games seem unaffected. WTF HEEELLLP!!!

  117. Shinrido — February 15, 2010 @ 7:50 am

Just got Bioshock 2 working after 3 days trying every fix i could find:

I downloaded the game via steam. When I would go to run it I got the hourglass for 3 second, and then nothing ( Under task manager, the Bioshock2Launcher.exe, and Bioshock2.exe would show for a few seconds then disappear) …no error msg’s, nothing.

My system: Q6600 quad core, 2 gb ram, Geforce 260 gtx.

Here is a list of what i did. I believe that I only needed to do the last thing on the list, but i’m listing the other things just in case it was a combination of things that actually fixed it for me:

    - Downloaded lastest gfx drivers (version 196.21)
    - Downloaded lastest directX (vcredist_x86.exe)
    - reinstalled (re-downloaded) Bioshock 2 via steam
    - reinstalled steam
    - Downloaded and installed “Game For Windows Live Client”
(My friend said steam installed GFWL for him when he installed Bioshock2, but for whatever reason mine did not (twice it did not since i re-downloaded the game.)

Anyway after installing and launching GFWL the game finally started! Hope this helps someone! Also apologize if someone has already said this.

!! on windows xp playing single player often when i click escape to save my game a menu pops up that only has the options quit to windows, menu, or go to single player mode meaning I cant save my game and! i can’t get out of this menu without quiting my game.

If no1 has a solution I suppose I can beat the game solely on autosaves lol.

I bought a computer recently and have been able to play other recently released games fine. during bioshock 2 regardless of what I set the graphics to eventually the fps begins to drop drastically. the screen flickers and flashes and I have to restart. sometimes exiting to menu will fix it, but rarely. it’s strange, sometimes I can play for hours with out this happening, other times it happens almost immediately.

I also have the problem with occasionally the game will exit straight to the main menu when pressing esc. it happens about 1/10 times.

my drivers are up to date I really don’t know what the problem would be, my graphics card is a nvidia gforce 8600 gt, my processor is an amd athlon dual core 6000+ 3ghz with 3.25 gigs of ram. windows xp service pack 3.

Make a shortcut of the Bioshock2launcher to the desktop(for convenience) go to the properties then compatibility, CHANGE IT TO RUN IN COMPATIBILITY MODE WITH WINDOWS 2000. I really hope this helps because I was just as pissed as the rest of you…

I had problems saving games in BioShock 2 (especially with Quick Save). Every 2nd or 3rd save would fail and I wouldn’t be able to start the game again without it crashing. I stopped using Quick Save and it happened much less frequently but still occured regularly. I discovered that if I deleted the 0KB [filename].bsb file (you have to quit the game to delete it) from My Documents\Bioshock2\Saved Games then I was able to save again (although it will happen again) and the game would restart just fine. I run a Windows 2003/2008 based domain at home and use folder redirection for the My Documents folder so this may contribute to the issue.

  148. Jenn — February 21, 2010 @ 7:25 am

So, apparently I’m the only person on the Internet to report this problem, but here it is:

I load up Bioshock 2 and it runs. It runs -beautifully.- But ONLY if I stay logged out of Windows Live. I can’t save or load my savegame without that login, though. The second I log in, gameplay slows to a crawl – to the point that I can’t actually play the game because the lag is so ridiculous. but it’s not crashing out, or giving me any useful information at all. It just runs unplayably slow when I’m logged into GFWL, and seamlessly beautiful when I’m not.

    My specs:
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Pentium Dual-core E5300 2.6gHz
    6GB RAM
    nVidia geForce 9800GT, 1GB
On-board sound (sound hasn’t been a problem for me at all)

I kind of resent that I have to be on the internet to play single-player. But I digress. Thanks for reading.

  149. spycid — February 21, 2010 @ 7:33 am

Jenn create an offline account by scrolling down the page after pressing the home (default key) just after launching the game, follow the steps & ur offline account will be ready. Hope that helps

My problem occurs in the area following the first underwater sequence. Tenenbaum sends a message to you, and then opens the flood doors. You see a splicer ahead of you in a lit room, then he runs off. As soon as I walk into the lit room, my graphics die and the screen goes black. My keyboard and mouse don’t seem to respond to input, but I can still hear the world continuing to go on (music keeps playing, etc). I cannot alt-tab, etc out, and in the end have to reboot my computer. When I lowered the graphics settings, I was able to walk further into the room, when a triangle slice of the top 1/8th of my screen went pink, then gray, and then my screen went black. I’ve been able to reproduce this 3/3 times.

    Problem:

I keep getting random crashing where I can play anywhere from 5 minutes to maybe an hour.
    I get the:
Problem #5 : Bioshock 2 Random Crashes with error message “Bioshock 2 has stopped working.”

The crashes are abolutely random and I know it’s not based on settings, as I have played the game from 640×480 with all the extra Visual Settings shut off to 1440×900 with all the max Visual Settings on. I also tried it with Audio Settings, but to no avail either.

I tried the fix, but it didn’t do anything either. So is there any fix for this or are we going to have to wait for a patch?

    Specs:
Windows Vista Home Prem 32-bit none of the SP’s installed.
    Intel Core2Duo E4700 2.6Ghz
    3GB DDR2 RAM
    ATi HD 4650
    SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeGamer

The Directx 10 Crashes are due to 3rd party programs such as gamerOSD or Rivatuner. I uninstalled gamerOSD and now all my games can run at directx 10 or 11. SO NO NEED TO CHANGE IT TO dx9 its quite retarded if you had to.

For anyone who got the stop working after playing it first, this worked for me:

Go to users/*username*/AppData/Roaming and look for the Bioshock 2 folder and delete it.

Now go to start -> games -> right-click bioshock 2 and click ‘play in directx9′.

    I’m using windows 7 x64.

when I get to the second Plasmid (Red canister) room there is a voice over which pauses movement then when I get control back my keyboard dosn’t respond except for the weapon swap keys 1,2 & 3. No other keys work. Is this a protection that has not been cracked?
    ps:

While loading the “Inner Persephone” map BS2 used to freeze, and after trying various solutions… it now crashes at the same point. i don’t know if this is an improvement or not, but either way its not fun. ideas?
