Straight from IncGamers…
Hanbitsoft have taken a U-turn with the action RPG Hellgate London and revealed the game will continue.
Hellgate London was set to close down at the end of this month with Hanbitsoft pulling all online support. This evening Hanbitsoft issued a statement announcing the game will continue with full server support and future content updates.
Hanbitsoft are now citing the developers as Redbana US Studio following the demise of Flagship Studios and they will be in charge of developing future updates.
Focus will now be placed on “strengthening community features while maintaining the speedy and thrilling action game elements”
A large patch is planned and HanbitSoft plans “to combine the two game play modes, unifying the split two communities into one. Also planned are class balance improvements and differentiation of each of the 5 acts. Gamers who attended the conference applauded this announcement”.
Sensibly Hanbitsoft will be turning the game into a free to play model. This will please many players who thought the game should always have been based on a free to play model but may upset those who paid for a lifetime ‘Founders’ subscription when the game was originally released.
This came in an email from them some time ago.

So… Back to kill some demons? We’ll most likely see Patch 2.0 (The Abyss) soon…

This is something I came about not long ago.

It appears the HGL players are gathering to “protest” against the shutdown of the servers on January 29th. A few other “meetings” such as this one have happened in the past and are still happening. The question is just if this will make any difference.
There are of course the rumors of a Korean company taking over the development of HGL, but there’ve been some doubts about other parts of the world being able to play that continuation of the game.
Nevertheless, we’ll have to wait and see what happens. I definitely hope it’ll continue, considering I just got my level 50.

This is Flagship’s response to the issue where Flagshipped had layed off all their employees and that hanbitsoft claims to have acquired the IP rights for Mythos.
“It is with deep regret that I must announce that Flagship Studios has laid off most employees. However, the core management and founding team members are still at Flagship.” said Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios. “The past five years have been an incredible experience for us, but unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain the size of the company any longer.”
Flagship Studios owns the rights to all its technology and IP, including Hellgate: London and Mythos. Due to the current situation, Flagship will not be taking any new subscribers for Hellgate: London, and all current subscriptions will not be billed.
Flagship wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to those that have supported the company and games over the past five years.”
So will patch 2.0 ever come out? don’t bet on it until Flagship gets a new company to invest in their projects. In fact, Flagship is still quiet about if they’ll continue supporting current subscribers and especially those who signed up for the Hellgate London “founder status” and Hellgate’s Lifetime subscriptions. (According to the lifetime subscription terms, Lifetime subscriptions are supposed to last through Hellgate’s online/multiplayer component’s lifetime and not the subscriber’s lifetime so… heh, screwed)
