Before moving on, PC Users who are looking for tweaks and fix for Prototype errors should make sure that their computer can handle (Activision) Prototype. Prototype’s minimum system requirements are listed below
Operating System: Windows® XP (with Service Pack 3) and DirectX® 9.0c or (Windows Vista® with Service Pack 2)
Video Card: 256 MB 3D hardware accelerator card required – 100% DirectX® 9.0c with Shader Model 3 support*
Processor: Pentium(R) Intel Core® 2 Duo 2.6 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ or better
RAM: 1 GB of RAM for Windows ® XP / 2 GB Windows ® Vista systems
Hard Drive Space: 8 GB of uncompressed hard disk space (Plus 500MB for swap file.)
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 –compliant sound card
DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM

*Supported Chipsets for Windows(R) XP and Vista
All NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7800 256 MB and better chipsets
All ATI® Radeon™ X1800 256 MB and better chipsets

Problem #1 : [Prototype PC Error] Black Screen / Input not supported / Blackscreen on Prototype start up.
Solution :
For Windows XP Users
1. From the start menu, Click on Run then type “dxdiag”
2. Click on the “More Help” Tab then click the  “Override Refresh Rate” Button.
3. Set the refresh rate override value to 60
For Windows Vista Users
1. Run dxcpl.exe from the Directx SDK folder
2. Click on the “Directdraw” tab then set the refresh rate to 60.

Problem #2: [Prototye PC Error] Sound stuterring / cracking
Solution :
For Windows Vista Users
Change the playback default format to  44100 Hz (48000 is too high). You can do this by right clicking on the speaker icon on the system tray > Properties > Advanced then select 41000HZ (any bitrate *should* do)
For XP Users
Do the equivalent of the Vista fix, listed above, for XP.

Problem #3: [Prototype PC Problem] Slowdown / (FPS)Framerate drop on a  system that far exceeds Activision Prototype’s  system requirements / low Frames per second.
Solution A : Disable V-Sync
Solution B : Go to your device manager and check if there are a lot of HID devices showing. Disable the ones you don’t need, leaving only the essentials like keyboard and mouse. Then try running the game again.

Problem #4: [Prototype Xbox360/PS3/PC Problem] Game Controller problem / buttons not being recognized and Game Controller other issues with Prototype.

Problem #5: [Prototype PC Error] Missing textures and models in Activision Prototype  (2009)
Solution A: Disable Anti-aliasing (AA) in Prototype’s video options
Solution B : disabe forced AA from the nVidia control panel.

Problem #6: [Prototype PC Error] Long loading time on menu after Prototype’s opening cinematic
Solution : check solution on Problem #3 listed above

Problem #7: [Prototype PC Crash] When launching the game, Prototype crashes immediately with this error message “prototype has encounterd a problem and needs to close”

Problem #8: [Prototype PC Crash] Prototype crashes repeatedly, in game with this error message “The exception uknown software exception” and with “click ok to terminate, etc”
