If you are encountering Wolfenstein related problems that are not listed below, please post them in the comments box at the bottom of this page. Posting solutions (working or speculated ones) for Wolfenstein on the comment box are more than welcome.
First of all, make sure that you’ve patched Wolfenstein to the latest version. You can download the latest patch here : (open in new window/ tab so you wont leave this guide/page)Wolfenstein (2009) 1.1 patch
Problem #1: Wolfenstein freezing in multiplayer more (as posted by Philou @ Wolfenstein forum)
Solution : Fixed with latest video card driver (as posted by the question author)
Problem #2: Unable to install Wolfenstein patch — “Cant find valid installation of Wolfenstein” error (as posted by Fenrir 464)
Solution : No solution available at the moment. note that torrented/cracked versions of Wolfenstein will have trouble patching the game as registry entries might be missing.
Problem #3:“Wolfenstein SP final has stopped working” error message
Solution : Make sure that your video card drivers are updated to the latest version
Problem #4: Wolfenstein multiplayer error — “scanning for tools” crash
Solution : Update wolfenstein to the latest version
Solution : If you are using Windows, try putting your etqw config (autoexec.cfg or rename etqwbinds and etqwconfig to wolfbinds and wolfconfig) in C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\id Software\WolfMP\base (as posted by angelus on Wolfenstein forum)
Solution :Did you add/tweak your config lately? I had to delete my autoexec and wolfconfig files (in both the ‘base” and “sdnet” folders) and have Wolfenstein regenerate them. (as posted by charger on Wolfenstein forum)
Problem #5: Unable to change name in Wolfenstein multiplayer
Solution :This is actually how it is intended to work online for tracking stats and such. Note that you can however use your keycode to create a few different user names (I believe the limit is 3 or 4). (as posted by paterfamillas on Wolfenstein forum)
Problem #6: DESKTOP MUST BE SET TO 32 BPP MODE
Solution : (as posted on the 1.1 patch notes)
If you receive this error when attempting to launch Wolfenstein, you will need to set your desktop to 32 bit color:
1. Open the Windows Control Panel through Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. Double click the Display icon.
3. Click the Settings Tab.
4. Under Color quality, select ‘Highest (32 bit)’ and click OK.
Once the new settings are applied Wolfenstein should launch normally.
For Windows Vista:
1. Right click anywhere on your Desktop and select Personalize.
2. Select Display Settings.
3. Under Color Quality select ‘Highest (32 bit) and click OK.
Problem #7: Wolfenstein singleplayer crashes/freezes on the main menu
Solution : Install Wolfenstein patch 1.1 (linked at the top of this post) and make sure your video card drivers are up to date and that your PC hardware meets Wolfenstein’s minimum system requirements
Problem #8: Wolfenstein error message “Renderer requires 16-bit floating point render target support”
Solution : No solution available at the moment
Problem #9: Monitor not working on Wolfenstein, you can hear sounds from the speakers but the screen is blank
Solution :(as posted by Jamakabi)
So I tried to open SP, monitor doesn’t like it, but I can hear the sound.
No .cfg to edit? Add this to tha target line of your shortcut
+set r_displayRefresh “85″ +set r_customwidth “1024″ +set r_customheight “768″
this assumes your refresh rate is 85, and your current res is 1024×768
alter it for your computer – you can see your current settings by right clicking on desktop and going to display control panel – and da-dah – a fix.
Problem #10: Black screen when launching wolfenstein, sounds in the background (problem and fix posted by Troubles, Wolfenstein forum)
Solution :
FOR SP (VISTA)
This fix is for: While launching game your screen becomes black, sometimes you can just hear the music and that’s it, I had this problem since the 18th and I’m finally able to play the SP. I have a 32 inches monitor so it may just happen to big monitors I don’t know. Every time I had to restart the PC in safe mode in order to uninstall VID drivers in order to be able to get back to windows without that black screen and a message showing “VGA 7 mode not support”.1. Open (with notepad) your “wolf” file in C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\id Software\WolfSP\base
2. Find seta r_mode “-1″ ( Sets screen resolution, 4 = 800 x 600, 5 = 1024 x 768, 7 = 1280 x 1024, 13 = 1680 x 1050. -1 indicates no preset screen resolution). The **** game file comes with -1 so you’ll need to change -1 by either 4/5/7/13 to make it work/launch.
3. Find seta r_letterBoxedHeight ” ” seta r_letterBoxedWidth ” ” seta r_customHeight ” ” seta r_customWidth ” ” and change also these resolutions according to the seta r_mode you’ll chose, example:
seta r_mode “5″ (5= 1024 x 768)
r_letterBoxedHeight “768″
seta r_letterBoxedWidth “1024″
seta r_customHeight “768″
seta r_customWidth “1024″
I had also to change the seta r_initialAspectRatio “1.7777777″ or whatever number it came with, to seta r_initialAspectRatio “2″
Sets screen aspect ratio, -1 = none set, 0 = 4:3, 1 = 16:9, 2 = 16:10, 3 = 5:4
FOR MP
Believe it or not my wolfconfig.cfg came empty ( I don’t think that’s normal), there is nothing in there, so I need now to figure out how I’m going to be able to launch MP. I will post it as soon I’ll find a solution.
Ok I just found it looks like. I just copy/paste/save all content that is in the “wolf” file C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\id Software\WolfSP\base into the “wolfconfig.cfg” that is in C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\id Software\WolfMP\base.
If you can’t find some files or folders go to start/control Panel/Folder Options/View/ and check the show hidden files and folders box/option.
